Fletcher’s Boarding Kennels

My dog has fear aggression however he loves it here. Frequently when I would leave him at kennels before, he would be shaking and whimpering. At Fletcher’s he is always happy to go running in and greet the other dogs in the fenced outdoor run. I think he finds it reassuring that although he can see and interact with the other dogs, there is a fence separating them so he does not worry about getting injured. I recommend this place to family and friends, and have never heard a negative thing about it from any of them.

Wow! Have to also add some balance to the scathing review. We have used Fletchers for years and never had a bad experience. Quite the opposite, our dog loved it there, which was unusual for her adapt to anything new. Vicky always seemed to know what was going on and how to handle dog issues. As is stated on the website, the kennel is old and kind of funky, but the dogs are well cared for in my experience. Most kennels have concrete floors so they can be cleaned. I have to admit, I’m curious about reviewer that would be upset at their dog being in a wooden kennel, but think nothing of strapping on the cone of shame all day!

Wanted to give a review to counterbalance the scathing and the glowing reviews here, to help other pet owners looking for a boarding place. We boarded our small dog here a while back. It is one of the cheapest places to board, and on the positive side they do have soothing music playing in the room where the «kennels» are. On the negative side, it is true the dogs are kept in smallish, dark wooden boxes, which is where our dog was (for the night) when we arrived for pickup at 4pm. The woman who met us offered no comments on how our dog’s stay was, even though they supposedly gave some human attention. This place is probably one of the only options for non-​social or aggressive dogs because they are kept isolated from one another inside and outside in the runs which are fenced in from one another. Our dog is very social, and was extremely happy to see us and to get home. I will not be as frugal next time. I doubt very much we will be back.

We have been taking our 2 dogs here for a couple of years now. It is a little run down and modest looking, but our dogs seem to like it fine which is the important part. The outside portion of the individual kennels are pretty large, so the dogs can run back and forth at least. Our larger dog, a Rotty/​Boxer mix actually seems to love it here, he is a little reluctant to leave even, and seems pretty excited when we arrive. Maybe because he is a too pushy for dog parks and doggie day care and this at least gives him a chance to socialize with other dogs some even if it is through a fence. We have almost a ¼ acre yard and a bunch of toys at home, so I am not sure what he likes so much here.
Our other dog, a smaller shepherd mix doesn’t normally like kennels at all and was even shaking when we picked her up in two previous low cost kennels we tried when we lived in other towns. She seems fine here too though, if not as enthusiastic as the other dog. The owner seems nice enough. No problems at all so far. It is also one of the most affordable kennels in the Portland area. I was very surprised to see the one bad review here. It is not fancy, but the dogs seem happy.

First off, I want to say that this place was recommended by a family member who had the best of intentions. After looking online and stumbling upon this place and its «great» reviews, it looked like a great place. Unfortunately, this pet boarding facility is a sham and a scam.
Our experience:
My husband and I were going to have our dog kenneled here for ten days while we went to Hawaii for our long awaited honeymoon. The kenneling was a gift from a family member and we were very appreciative. She did all of the research necessary short of driving 4 hours to check it out in person. The place had a good website, «great» reviews, and the owner answered questions fully and sweetly. Since we have trust issues with people watching our pets after tragically losing one not too long ago, we thought this place sounded good since it had such a «good» rating. Within all of the recent holiday madness, we unfortunately neglected to drive out to check the place out for ourselves but put faith in it being as good as its internet reputation.
My husband called the night before to ensure everything was set up and asked if we needed to go out to fill out the paper work, as we were going to be a bit of a time crunch in the morning trying to get to the airport on time. The woman (the owner) was very sweet and said, «no, no, no, it’s fine. It will just take a minute.»
The minute my husband showed up the following morning he was greeted by the same woman who then had a horrible attitude, and who instantly told him «NO CONES ALLOWED!» (Our 9 month old puppy has been wearing a cone because of a nervous scratching problem he has had, most likely from the time he spent in a shelter, but is completely clean and is being trained to not scratch [i.e. THE CONE]). Trying to explain this to the woman he was then informed that if she saw ANY scratching of ANY kind she was going to take our dog to the vet, no questions asked, and charge us with any and all fees upwards of thousands of dollars. A little confused as to what was being said/​going on, he continued into the disgustingly dirty facility where the woman continued to be nasty, waiving a Right to Refuse Service sign in his face and having a man who «worked» there get up in his face and threaten him. Trying to still be positive for our honeymoon and the situation my husband left, though completely uncomfortable with everything that had just happened. He came home and recapped all that happened and what was said, at which point I said we were going back and there was NO way our dog was staying there, told the cab to leave, and we immediately headed back.
As we arrived, it was far worse than I imagined: filthy, cold (though advertised as heated kennels), trashy, and overall, no place for any pet to be kept. This was a half hour later that we returned, nothing had been done for our dog: no blanket laid out for him to even lay on in his cold «kennel», all of his things still in their bag, not fed, and no one to be seen. they were in their house next door doing god knows what. The «kennels» the dogs are kept in are LITERALLY dark wooden boxes with a small sliding door at the top, no windows. At first I thought it was where they kept the dog food and supplies, but looked in and THAT was where the dogs were kept– all of them barking and howling. The area they were to play in was a tiny, filthy area within a chain-​link fence. Disgraceful. The woman finally made her way out where I demanded my dog and his things. She wanted to defend herself against whatever was said earlier, but I didn’t want to hear it and again just calmly asked for my dog immediately. At this time, another man walked by in a passive-​aggressive huff and muttered «they better be getting their f*****g dog!» Our dog ran out to me shaking, at which time I grabbed his things and we left as fast as we could.
Needless to say, we missed our plane and our honeymoon. We could have done more investigating and we should have; however, this place should not even be open as to have been an option for us to use.
We are just like any other average family with pets. we don’t serve our animals their food on golden platters, but we expect them to be kept safe and clean.
So, basically, If you love your pet as we do (They are loved members of our family) do not leave them
here with these people. They will be neglected, sad, kept in solitary confinement, and possibly get sick or hurt from the other dogs. as no one there seemed to give a care as to what was going on.
If we would have kept our dog here, we don’t deserve to have him at all. That simple.
I will, without a doubt, be calling the better business bureau about this place.
