Really sub-par food. Low quality, standard dishes, overly-greasy and uninspired. No decent vegetarian options. Good service and nice ambience.

Wow! So much better than it used to be. I had a tasty blueberry pancake, perfectly cooked, fluffy, full of berries. And eggs over-easy, and perfect hash browns. So good. So tasty. The waitresses are so friendly and the bill was under $ 10 for a farmhouse kind of breakfast, including really good coffee. There aren’t many diners left in Portland. This one is one of the best!

Funny, friendly, fabulous staff not to mention how delicious the grub is. Cinnamon roll french toast? Yes please. This spot is a gem — so sssssshhhhh don’t tell your friends.

The food is traditional diner breakfast food but I have been here twice and found both times it was great. Good atmosphere and great waitstaff. I had blueberry pancakes and they are good and huge. Also tried omelette another time and it was good. Big fan of the hash browns and yes to the cinnamon roll! The wait is prob long on weekends but we got there at 9a right before the rush. I give it 5 stars for what it is, a great traditional diner with a lot of charm!

Loving this place! Apparently, this is a local favorite. And I can see why. 2nd time back in 2 days — Thank goodness for the snow today — kept most people home as the line was out the door yesterday. The food is delish and the the servers are awesome!!! Feels like you’re eating at home with family that you actually like!

We love this place! We’ve had breakfast here several times and we haven’t been disappointed. The food is tasty, the service is friendly, and the space is comfortable. Yes, it does get crowded during their peak hours, but they staff is good at managing the waiting list and things move pretty quickly. We look forward to becoming regulars!

Put your name on the list and get the upgrade for cinnamon roll! Service was great! Food was delicious. This place is busy and there is a good reason for it! My husband had the chicken fried steak and LOVED it. He’s very picky about that plate. I had the regular Joe; good meat and my eggs(which I am picky on) were perfectly scrambled and dry, as I had asked. It’s small but a classic place. We WILL be back!

Mediocre food drenched in oil. But the staff is very friendly, they have excellent coffee, and everything is reasonably priced.

This place has everything you want in a classic diner: fantastic food, friendly staff, and cozy Americana ambiance. The skillets(chock full of ham and onions on a bed of fresh hashbrowns and finished with fried eggs) are the best in town. Best part about this place though is the staff. I love Portland and its food scene, but this place really feels like you’re back in your hometown. It’s a genuine mom-and-pop operation and not a bit pretentious. Plus, it’s in a quaint, lesser-known area of Portland that offers great post-breakfast strolls through its small downtown. 5 stars all day long.

If you want a greasy spoon diner this is it. Nothing pretentious. This is a great neighborhood hub and has I have come here for years though it is not a place I eat often. Kids love it too. It is not big inside but there is good table turn-around.

I have to say I love this place. It is my favorite breakfast spot in Portland. I wish they would move to a newer and better location, but I guess that the location is part of the charm. I love the cinnamon roll and last year picked some up for Christmas morning — totally worth the trip across town.

First time I went, I accepted the mediocrity of the food and was extremely happy because the cinnamon roll was killer. I figured it was worth coming here again just to sub out toast for that gooey roll. But the second time I went, the food was even more mediocre and the roll was not good. It was just a big lump of dough with one thin swirl of cinnamon inside. Not worth allotting some daily calories for. Eggs are average to poor so I’d suggest sticking with scrambles. The hash browns are okay. The sausage gravy is pretty good. It would be the one item I’d recommend. The service is friendly, though, and makes them a three star review. I’d go back in a pinch.

I was in yesterday with my family, it had a ling time since I visited there… my children(adults now) had no recall of bringing them time and time again as they grew up. However deep in their subconscience they must recall something, for it is now their favorite breakfast house. Great food Great company Creating new memories

Fat City Café is a must-try if you’re in Multnomah Village. My sister insisted on taking us to her favorite local breakfast spot and I’m so glad she did. There’s goofy stuff on the walls, the friendly wait staff are ready to recommend a few menu items and crack a joke with you, the portions are huge and the prices are cheap. Our awesome waitress said we’d win a prize if we answered 3 trivia questions correctly, and we were rewarded with the biggest, warmest, gooey-est cinnamon roll this side of Portland. My chorizo omelette was fantastic, and my bite of B’s eggs benedict was creamy perfection. Fat City Café is a fat slice of small town café awesomeness, serving the kind of food I would happily grow fat on. Highly recommend!

Small, friendly little place right in the heart of the Village. Come early on weekends(before 9) to avoid an hour wait. Food is always hot, fresh(and nice n’ greasy when you need it most)! Helen, the owner, is lovely and so friendly. The wait staff is usually young, very friendly and extremely accommodating — even for larger parties. Great for kids! Lots to look at with their funky eclectic décor. Seriously? It’s like going to Mom’s house for breakfast.(Lunch is good too, but bfast is where it’s at!)

Fat city café is the perfect all american dining experience. If you are in the mood to have some classic greasy food I would definitely recommend it. Service is really slow and there is always a wait but the whole staff is really nice and there’s definitely tons of community feel to it. Wandering around multnohmah village while you wait is pretty fun too! Try their seasonal pancakes and milkshakes :)

Cinnamon roll was suggested and then offered as a substitute for my bread. can you say yay?! It was large and split between 3 and when i say 3 i mean 3 people with good appetites :) Fatty omelette was good but normal/standard tasting but i’m a breakfast person and you can’t really mess up an omelette unless you burn it. Side of hash browns were good but not crunchy like I prefer. Soft hash brown lovers, this is your area here. Hash browns were delicious though, just not crunchy. Aardvark spicy sauce is a must try!

Came here with a friend because we wanted to try a new place. We weren’t disappointed! The staff here is pretty rad. They were personable, generous with their time to chat with us, and took the time to check in and see how we doing. The atmosphere is pretty laid back. It’s a diner. The theme is a roadside type place with license plates hung around and wooden farm tables. It’s neat. And the food was great. I got the Fat City special which is hashbrowns, veggies, ham(but I substituted for more veggies) and TWO eggs any way you like it. Of course the best way to have an eggs on hash is sunny side up so you can break that yolk and let it ooze into the crispy hash. The hash was cooked through in the inner layer. None of that I-think-it’s-raw-potatoes deal. Overall great for family or group of friends.

Over the years one of my favorite hole in the wall dinners… It’s small and sometimes impossible to get into at times… But if you ever get a chance to stop in for breakfast or lunch you won’t regret it! Talk about comfort food. So good!

Old timey mom and pop grub shops are always fun. And it helps when it is actually well manned. The food is not anything to write home about, with an exception or two, but I wasn’t expecting it either. The décor is camp, the joint closes early and the waitstaff is perky as a result. This diner is a 50s Americana throwback that serves OK food and treats its customers well. No frills food and nostalgia make this hole in the wall a keeper.

It’s been awhile since I’ve eaten here and I remember it has always been very good. This visit, however, was just to procure some of their biscuits to go. We were in the area had some homemade jam to try back at the house. These biscuits were large and very tasty. A good reminder to get back here and have a proper sit down and eat ASAP!
