Their work at this shop was great, but they attempted to charge me 300.00 over the price quoted to compensate for my vehicle taking up a work stall for an additional day. When I confronted them about it they immediately lowered the cost to what it was supposed to be. Very sad because they not only lost my business but that of my Husbands and my Sons!
I received no phone call stating that there would be extra costs.

Friendly, fair, fast, good availability, job done well. Used these folks several times over the past couple years, and always been happy with them.

About a year ago the lights on my car went out. They «fixed them» so about three months later my thermostat went out. Because of my, good experience I went back to get it fixed.
However since then and less than six months since each «fix» THE SAME THINGS BROKE. I took my, car to a different mechanic and they told me that the wrong parts had actually been put in.
So I basically, had to pay twice for one problem. Will never recommend to anyone nor will I go back.
I called them and got voicemail to explain this and never got a return call.
Waste.

I had to go to several auto shops to find someone that could recharge the a/​c in my older Ford van. It’s old enough that most places don’t have the right connectors to handle this and one guy wanted to replace the compressor and disable the rear a/​c. The guys here were able to get the a/​c recharged, nothing was disabled and they said the compressor was fine. They also were straight forward about the price — $ 325 which was what I expected (and so much better than $ 900 to replace a perfectly fine compressor and disable my rear air) but that because of the year of the van it might be the newer freon and if so that it would cost less. I knew it wasn’t going to be the newer freon, but I appreciated them letting me know and giving me all the information. I also was having a problem with the rear passenger door not opening from the outside and they were able to fix that too, which turned out to just be that a new door handle was needed, the original plastic one was broken and the one they replaced it with is metal and will surely last much longer. The guys said they were surprised they actually got a part for an older van like mine in the same day, and I was too, but it worked out very well for me. I also surprised them with the door, I was so excited about finding a place to recharge the a/​c that I didn’t mention the door until I dropped the van off, but they figured out what the problem was and called me in less than an hour after I dropped it off to tell me what the problem was and what the cost to fix it would be. It wasn’t super cheap, but it is a better part and since I had already taken the door apart and know that getting into the guts of the door is a PIA I thought the price was reasonable. I will certainly come back here if I need work done in the future, and if you have an older van I highly suggest them as people that can take care of older van issues at reasonable prices. The a/​c in my van has never worked so well in 3 years of ownership.

Today I took my van to Expert Auto repair because my tilt wheel had not worked for about a year. I had asked many «mechanics» about it AND had taken it to the Chrysler Dealership… they had it ALL DAY… then telling me there was nothing they could do!

Highway robbery. Not friendly. Don’t trust the reviews.
We were the first customer there (before 8am); they had no one else there, and they were so bent out of shape about someone trying to give them business. Even though the check engine light wasn’t on, they wanted $ 100 to run a diagnostic scan. Unbelievable.
The guy who looks like Guy Fieri has a real attitude. Never going back there. There’s a ton of repair shops on 82^nd, and I’m sure they won’t charge me $ 100 just to run a useless scan. What a scam.

This is a Unilocal success story. I was worried about going to a non-​dealership mechanic, since I’ve taken my ’06 Honda to Beaverton Honda for about four years. But a month ago, they demanded $ 695 from me to replace the rotors and put on new brake pads. So I decided to shop around. The guys at Expert Auto Repair were horrified at the dealership price. They did it for $ 270. I’m willing to post the estimates if anyone wants to see them.
Side benefits: They’re right near the streetcar so you can drop off your vehicle and get into downtown while you wait.
I don’t really ever review places on here, but use them if you can.

They live up to the hype in a friendly, budget-​saving way. If you are thinking of taking your car to Royal Moore, etc. or Les Schwab, give these guys a call first. Expert Auto is a place a first-​timer can take their car and be glad they did. You will end up making them your first option for car troubles.

Great Guys and an Honest shop. Ed who works on my Dodge Ram diesel was not going to be in for a couple days and my truck was dead in my driveway. He said to come on by the shop (in my other vehicle) and he would try to get me some info to help troubleshoot the problem. When I got there he had printed up some instructions on how to check the… blah blah blah.
Anyway he had it printed, had a diesel fuel can for me to borrow and I solved the problem utilizing his advice and support. I found these guys about five years ago on the recommendation of a gear head that works at my local tire shop and have been well taken care of ever since.

If you need the best honest service in Portland look no further! We’ve been bringing our cars here for years. Patient, smart and friendly — the whole crew is awesome, and if you’re lucky you might get to try some mushrooms brought in that day!

Great customer service!
We were from out of town and our check engine light went while we were in Portland. As most people, we are very suspicious of mechanics from negative experiences with them, so we were really bummed that we had to find one blindly in a city we were unfamiliar with. Fortunately for us, we found honest mechanics that told us we didn’t have to fix our problem immediately because it was a problem we could fix after we made our 17 hour trip back home to California. We are safe and sound at home, wishing we had a place like this at home.

This place is the real deal.
I am not at all mechanically inclined, but do have a basic understanding of preventative maintenance and the like. I have been here 4 times and they’ve always treated me respectfully, professionally, and honestly. Really nice guys as well. Emphasis on the honest characteristic: I took my car in for what I was expecting to be new brake pads and rotars, maybe even new struts (Les Schwab indicated it was about time). I was bracing myself for the between $ 400-​$ 800 in repairs. I dropped the car off, receive a phone call a few hours later reporting that I still had enough pad to last a few more years, no intervention indicated. Wow that is very much appreciated, as I can certainly recall mechanics in my past performing unnecessary repairs for the extra buck. I also like that I can swing by to have a light repaired, and they don’t treat me like I’m an idiot who should be doing this myself.
TO TOP IF OFF: 30 days after my preventative maintenance «attempt,» I get a phone call from someone just checking-​in to see how the car is running.
Lifelong customer. Highly recommended!

Was referred here from Green Drop. Expert went out of their way to isolate my transmission problem and referred me to another shop that specialized in fixing the problem, which I appreciated. Friendly, knowledgable, and honest.
