I have been coming to cup and saucer for years at the different portland locations. This review is specific to the Kenton location. Ordered the Florentine Benedict, the English muffin was burnt, the spinach and tomatoes were cold and the poached eggs were cooked all the way. The service staff are really friendly, but the food was gross. Please check-in with kitchen staff, the food has decreased in quality over the past two years.

We just left Cup & Saucer and our server, Kelli, seemed to be having a bad day… She and her coworkers were yelling at each other when we walked in. Maybe they were joking, not really sure. Once seated, we asked for coffee and water. It all came soon enough, though our creamer had a hair in it, right on top. I asked for a fresh one, and then 5 minutes later I asked her again for the creamer. «I’m getting something for someone else first,» she muttered back to me. Looked to me like she was bussing tables… As my wife placed her order, she took a moment to decide how she wanted her eggs cooked. Maybe 4 – 5 seconds later, Kelli let out a heavy sigh. Hey, I’ve been a server before, and I know it’s annoying when a customer doesn’t have their order ready for you when you’re standing over them, but let’s try to tuck in the attitude just a bit, ya know? Once she decided on her eggs, a mere 10 seconds later(sorry to keep you waiting Kelli!) I asked for the eggs benedict that other Unilocalers had mentioned were great. «We’re out of hollandaise.» Oh. Ok. When I told her I’d need another minute or two, then, to figure out my order, she walked away in a huff. Did I do something wrong by not having a backup order ready to go??? Apparently. After I placed my new order, some huevos rancheros, we overheard a woman with some kids seated nearby ask for another moment to decide. Kelli left that table with noticeable frustration, so much so that this poor woman felt the need to apologize to Kelli a few minutes later for obviously upsetting her. Worst part? She seemed sincere… She thought *she* was the reason for Kelli’s behavior! The meal itself? Pretty ok. I mean, it was fine. My black beans were well overcooked and way too starchy, the shredded cheese wasn’t melted(which means the food wasn’t very warm) and the potatoes were undercooked, but it was totally edible. My wife found a hair in her potatoes but didn’t want to make Kelli any more upset, so she soldiered on. Nothing about this meal warranted a repeat visit, but the attitude and frustration we, and other diners, felt because of the service definitely warranted a review here. Good luck to you if you decide to eat here, hopefully you’ll have a better experience than us… and a tip to Kelli: don’t write your name on your guests’ check if you have delivered subpar service… might come back to bite you in the form of a very specific review!

First the food was delicious, really good, I got the garden scramble minus the mushroom and it was so fresh and so tasty. This is a laid back sit and relax local café. Well worth going to if you want a good breakfast or lunch!

This isn’t some super upscale joint but the food is good, think homemade everything. Every time I come here I get the biscuits and Gravy YUM. The serving size on everything is pretty darn good. I’d say this is a breakfast joint, they close early and have a pretty great breakfast menu. As I said, I typically get the biscuit and gravy combo but I’ve had their scones, eggs, potatoes/hash and pancakes. It’s all good! The eggs were crazy, not sure what they were called but my fiancé brought them and it was like, pesto eggs? Nummy. I’m not a giant fan of their service, in fact they’ve disappointed me in that area almost consistently, but at least they’re consistent. The food is good, if a bit expensive for breakfast but worth it I’d say. Not much different than say Elmers prices. Syoy

Friendly service. My first time here I ordered breakfast burrito with vanilla scone and potatoes. Also wanted a pancake and tried the blueberry. The pancake was blackened outside and undercooked inside and flattened with no fluffiness. The blueberries on top tasted like they had been frozen; granted, it is the first of October. I could only eat a few bites. My eating companion agreed the pancakes need work. The burrito tasted good, but my scrambled eggs were a bit too runny, potatoes needed salt. The scone had a good flavor, but needed a bit of moisture. Raspberry jam on the table provided a nice flavor and needed moisture to the scone. My coffee was promptly refilled whenever it began to get low. No problem getting a seat on Thursday morning. The waitress was on her own but kept a friendly helpful attitude and that was a plus.

Continually disappointed in this place. I have been here a number of times and it is always just okay. Today we waited nearly an hour for our food when the restaurant was pretty empty. Our waitress seemed apathetic and wasn’t all that attentive. I asked if we could sit outside prior to doing so and our waiter comes up and begins to tell me «I have to tell someone when I’m going to sit down outside» type lecture when I told him I already made sure it was okay to do so. Anyway, it was a weird experience. Once we got our food our order wasn’t quite correct so we ate it anyway because we were so hungry after waiting so long.

I’m generally not one to write bad reviews, but the food here was just okay, particularly for the price, and the servers had an I-don’t-give-a-shit attitude. Many, many better places to eat.

I am super grateful to share that service speed has improved a whole bunch since I wrote my original review a year ago– way to go, Cup & Saucer! And the food remains really tasty. I’m a happy camper and continue to appreciate having them in our North Portland neighborhood. Cheers!

We rely on Cup and Saucer to provide our breakfast/lunch at least 3 x week for YEARS! Yes, YEARS. They are that important to us. AMANDA the manager is cheerful, friendly, and overall Amazing. Jenny and Corey are great too. It’s kind of like the TV show Cheers for us. Food is awesome. We made get good old #10 but we usually get multiple double espresso. The pancakes are the death of me. Sometimes I crave them In my sleep. They serve alcohol and you can bring your kids and dogs(outside for pooches). 5 *****

A very home-y place that’s super comforting, with pretty delicious comfort food to match! Never a very long wait for brunch, and within the cute Kenton«main street.» Of course, the food you want to order at this place isn’t super healthy, but that’s not the point. In my experience the eggs benedict are the best option. The only thing they could do to improve is remember to bring us coffee when we order it :) The last few times we were there, our waitress, who admittedly looked very busy, never seem to remember to bring our coffee unless we got a specialty coffee drink. We usually just end up getting our own cup at the self-serve station up front.

Been going here for years! Great place to grab a good ol cup of joe and some delicious breakfast. I usually go if I’m hung over and need some god sustenance. Or am with friends who want to go out for breakfast. Great price but they are usually pretty busy.

Shhhhh they have seating available for brunch! Its a good brunchy brunch. Atmosphere is relaxed and chill I like the animal paintings they have one display as well. I had the hollandaise with the ham and it was great also the French Toast we shared on the halal bread I like to call it hollah bread it’s tasty and really takes the syrup and butter.

Good food but nothing amazing. We tend to come here when the line at other places are too long.

Good place for breakfast/brunch. Nothing is overly special about the menu, but food and service is good, and they make a good bloody mary.

A busy joint with popular brunch options in the heart of Kenton. We met a friend and visited Cup & Saucer Café for the first time last weekend. I got a feeling this is the gather place for the neighborhood. The staff is friendly and run a tight ship on getting diners in and out. My fellow diners had the biscuits and gravy and the basil pesto eggs. My friend really like Cup & Saucer’s biscuits and gravy because it’s vegetarian-friendly by default. The carb loaded bowl also comes with a good sized portion of potatoes. Lots of carbs, but my friend seemed happy. The basil pesto plate was not polished off, even by the hungry breakfast eater because he said it seemed greasy. He admitted he should have known, because pesto can get greasy. Felling the chill in the air, I ordered a tuna melt on sourdough and was pleased. The sourdough was toasted and the plate was piled high with house made french fries. Though the South would disagree, the sandwich didn’t need additional mayo. Overall, a solid brunch place with fast service. You can’t ask for anything more on a Saturday morning!

Was looking for a hearty, tasty breakfast to complement this rainy weather, and I got exactly what I needed. I ordered the biscuits and vegetarian gravy(topped with pan-fried bacon, of course), which came with a giant side of house potatoes. Paired it with a cup of joe from Happy Cup, and I couldn’t be happier. Definitely didn’t hurt that my server(I think her name was Amanda) was the quintessential cute, quick diner-style waitress. Keep up the great service!

I don’t see myself ever craving breakfast from cup and saucer. The bacon was almost burnt, but not untasty. The coffee burned my face off. It’s just your average, run-of-the-mill café with okay service. They sit right in the middle: not great, not awful. The worst thing I could say is that I’m indifferent to this place, but if someone said, «Hey, let’s go to Cup and Saucer!» I wouldn’t protest, but I would be quietly preparing myself for some mediocre food and mediocre service.

I had brunch here before hitting one of the street fairs and I am pretty sure their homemade hollandaise sauce made me deathly sick. Only 20mins after leaving the restaurant i was in the bathroom. The rest of the food was really just bleh. I will not be going back here again

I could write a love song about both Cup & Saucer’s ham Benedict and vanilla scones. The hollandaise sauce always delivers. Their breakfast potatoes are the perfect blend of not over cooked but not raw in the middle either. The scones are fresh and with their house made jam/preserves are enough to make me take all my out of town guests here. Why bother with ridiculous wait times when you can get amazing food and service at Cup and Saucer? On Saturday and Sunday mornings there will be a wait but not too bad at all. I’ve been here a lot, and every time without fail Lisa, the main waitress, is working her butt off. Never seen her without a huge, genuine smile! She always helps me decide when I can’t because the menu is too good. She’s honestly one of the best waitresses I’ve ever had and she warrants a 20% tip from this poor college kid.
