I can think of a few people that may squirm a bit in thinking about colon hydrotherapy. Or let’s just call it what it is, a colonic. Squirm as you will but I will tell you that I haven’t felt better and «clearer» in my life. Alec does an amazing job making something that can be so uncomfortable and I’ll admit scary, easier and more peaceful. Let’s just say he knows his sh! t. Literally. He’s wonderful to talk to and he offers many insights into living a healthier lifestyle. I’ll leave it at that and spare the details but I would highly recommend seeing him if you’re feeling a bit off balance.

wow, where to start. I can safely say that Alec and his beautiful colonics studio have CHANGED MY LIFE IN PROFOUND WAYS and I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL !!! (not sure how much more than that I can say to support my 5-​star review, lol!) I began having digestive issues (gas, bloating, belly aches) in my early 20s after college. I did a self-​elimination diet and learned that my body was no longer okay with peanuts, dairy or gluten (no one knew what gluten-​free was back then, 1999!) so I cut those foods out of my diet and have faithfully avoided them ever since. however, I still struggled with digestion issues and wondered what I should be eating or not eating to feel great. I’ve tried all kinds of diets from raw food, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, etc. etc. finally last summer I was so fed up I did a cleanse from Whole Foods and then decided to finally try colonics. i’d heard about colonics for years but was always slightly nervous about going to that extreme… now I absolutely wish I had started getting colonics 15 years ago !! after four colonics in the past year, my digestion is 1,000 times better than it has been since my teenage years. i’m 40 years old this year and apparently I had 40 years of *sh*t* stuck in my body and it was gunking up the works every single day !! Alec’s space is clean and confidential. The most profound health, wellness and healing experience of my life. Alec is a gift from the Universe for your body, wellbeing, emotions and physique. I have had several colonics back home in Australia and during my travels I have been feeling bloated and tension with my digestion. I had been considering colonics for the last 8 years but I had never gone through with it. I was always slightly apprehensive about the process and thats what kept me from following through. I’ve been a constipated person most of my life and my gut was telling me (emotionally and physically) that I needed something more. I am so thankful to have found Chakra 17 and it’s owner, Alec. As others have said, the office is located in the downstairs portion of his home but do not let this bother you. The space is simple, clean, and very calming. Alec is amazing and extremely professional. His energy is very peaceful and within the first few minutes of meeting and talking with him, I felt all my worries and apprehensions disappear. He really does a great job at making people feel comfortable and you can tell that he truly cares about his patients and enjoys aiding people in their healing process. I’ve had 5 or 6 sessions over the last 3 and a half months and for the first time in my life I can say that I’m going to the bathroom daily. I never thought this would be the case for me! I encourage anyone who has ever considered getting a colonic to go see Alec at Chakra 17.

If there was a colonic therapist hall of fame, Alec would most certainly be in it. I’ve experienced a variety of colonic methods and therapists in my travels around the country, and Chakra 17 is by far the best. This isn’t just a business for Alec, it’s his passion, and it shows in every aspect of what he does.
He takes great care to understand each client’s body and needs, and he adjusts his therapy accordingly to get the best results. For most people, light abdominal massage works best to complement the water flow, for others (like me), a deeper touch is better. Sometimes Alec applies acupressure type massaging to my lower back (something no other colonic therapist has ever done to me), and it works like a charm. You mostly lie on your back during the treatment, but sometimes Alec has you lie on your side. At every step of the way he does whatever he thinks will produce the best outcome, which he cares about getting every bit as much as you do. Also, he has the best bedside manner I’ve ever experienced from any healing practitioner: he’s warm and friendly, compassionate, non-​judgmental, and very nurturing.
Virtually everyone has stagnation in their bowels, mostly due to our modern western diet which is contrary to what our bodies are designed to assimilate. .. and eliminate. The positive effects of releasing what has been stuck inside you for years is nothing short of miraculous. Not only do you have more energy and stamina, a better complexion, sleep better and get sick less, but you also have more mental clarity and a better spiritual and emotional sense of well being. You’re literally happier, and you’re reducing the chances of developing serious health issues down the road.
Other than what you can do on your own (eating right, exercising, etc.), getting a colonic from Alec is just about the best thing you can do for your body. I can’t recommend it more.

I’ve been going to Chakra 17 West over a few months after moving to Portland from Tucson. I had a marginal experience with a colon hydrotherapist in the Tucson area, so I wasn’t sure what to expect coming to Chakra, but I’m so glad to have found this place.
Alec is the owner and practitioner of Chakra; he is focused, calming, and highly adept at what he does. He uses the Woods Gravity method which I now prefer. Finding professionals who have been trained in this approach can be a challenge (I couldn’t find anyone in Arizona). For me, the Gravity method has proven more effective and produced much better results.
A few important points for the newcomer:
Alec treats clients at his private clinic space within the lower level of his home which is accessed by a private entrance in the back. Don’t let this throw you off, it’s a lovely space designed for its purpose, and it is immaculately clean. I love coming here and I feel very comfortable.
You approach his house through a front-​yard gate, veer to the right, around to the backyard, and you’ll see steps leading down to the clinic door. Easy enough.
There’s a small bed platform in the clinic space which you will lie on. You won’t see any «output» as you experience the colonic (if that worries you). It all goes out through a closed tube that you don’t view.
If this is your first time, you may have a lot of material to evacuate. The first time (or if you haven’t been in a while) may be epic. I waited a couple days and had another follow-​up since so much material had been unearthed in my system. Doing a beginning series of two back-​to-​back sessions helped me immensely.

Alec is one of the kindest, sweetest health care practitioners that I have ever met. I was very nervous for my first colonic and he made me feel completely comfortable and at ease. He sets an intention for your colonic and overall health before each session. I always feel better after each colonic I have. I have been going close to monthly for about a year working on ongoing digestive and constipation issues. I don’t know what I would have done without Alec. He is a bright, knowledgable person and is very conscientious and caring. I highly recommend him. Thank you!

I was looking to have a colonic treatment. I had called a few different places and left messages. I was so pleased to get a call back so quickly from Chakra 17, where I was able to get in right away. My experience was awesome! Very clean, relaxing and inviting environment. Alec is very professional and experienced. I was put at ease from the beginning, hence having a very productive and transforming treatment. I had a series of sessions because I felt so great and am now on a monthly régime. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and highly recommend Chakra 17 for colon hydro therapy.

Alec is absolutely amazing! He is one of the kindest, warmest people I have ever met. I’ve had many colonics over the past couple of years from 3 good practitioners. The other 2 used closed systems. But Alec and the gravity system are my favorite. If you need a colonic (which you probably do), just go here, you won’t regret it.
I do believe that the gravity system helps gets deeper into your colon. The releases are more profound. It can be much more intense (in a good way — when it’s over, you feel MUCH better). Besides the system however, Alec is also a wonderful practitioner. He is kind, patient, really knowledgable, and enjoyable to talk to. He uses abdominal massage and accupressure points to help trigger release and it really works. He’s truly passionate about helping people heal.
At first, I was a bit confused by the space that is in the bottom floor of a house. So when you get there, don’t be surprised that it’s a residential neighborhood. (It’s in the back of the house, down the steps.) After figuring it out, I realized that I really like the space. It’s clean, quiet, not too formal, and well appointed. Overall, it’s a very soothing and comfortable space to get a colonic. The bed may seem a bit weird at first but I like it a lot and it’s awesome that it’s right next to the toilet.
He does accept credit cards for a small ($ 3) extra fee. Overall, the price is very reasonable and the value superb. And I much prefer going to Alec over some corporate, clinical environment, even if it were cheaper.
This is definitely going to be my go-​to spot for a colonic as long as I’m in Portland. Thank you Alec!

Alec has a beautiful way about him that is so healing and so nurturing, I knew I was in good hands when he placed intentions on our session. Unilocal reviews are what led me to Alec & Chakra 17 (THANK YOU Unilocalers!), since I was visiting town and didn’t know how to choose between the dizzying array of colonic options in PDX. I’m adding my own 5-​star review, which applies to:
1. Alec
2. the beautiful healing studio in the basement of Alec & Kristen’s home
3. the gravity-​centered closed system of colonic hydrotherapy (which was new to me)
I’ll admit it: I was nervous. As a straight woman, I don’t even like getting massages from men, just in case there’s a *weird* factor. I was quickly put to ease by Alec’s easygoing, matter-​of-​fact nature, his «bedside» manner, and how easily he matched my own energy. When I wanted to pepper him with questions, he was all answers. When I zoned out, relaxed and quiet, he mirrored that. It can’t be easy to operate a system, feel what your client’s body is doing and what it needs, AND provide a strong healing presence — but Alec does, extremely well.
If you’re curious about logistics, here’s a snapshot:
1. I was relieved that, when I pulled up to the house, there was no neon sign that said, «COLONICS HERE.» :-) Just a sweet house, and clear instructions in advance about where to go. Alec was waiting for me.
2. The studio is a lovely, peaceful, super-​clean space that’s basically a large bathroom with a custom-​build bed to lie on. There was nice, soft music playing, with a small area that I’d call an altar: a few stones, objects, etc. — I view such spaces as magnets for ease and for healing energy, which I love. The room was the perfect temperature!
3. Alec answered the questions I had before leaving me to get ready and slip into the fetal position on the small, comfy bed against the wall (the gravity-​centered tank is attached to the upper corner).
4. Alec had allowed for 90 minutes, total, which was wonderful (no sense of rushing). Through his deep knowledge and experience, he knew where, along my back or hip, he needed to press or wiggle to help my innards release their schtuff. It was a wonderful supplement to the hydrotherapy, and felt 100% healing and appropriate.
5. Since the studio is an enlarged bathroom, the end of the experience is very convenient: Alec removed the tub and excused himself while I (ahem) got myself together with the help of the toilet, and dressed.
6. GRAVITY-​FED, people: a revelation! Throughout the session, Alec had to refill the water tank (by turning a knob)… he could even adjust the temp to my liking. Through a magical system of physics that I don’t comprehend, the water comes IN at the same time that your schtuff goes OUT. I couldn’t see the out-​tube, nor did I want to, but this system is far, far more comfortable — and in my opinion, more effective — than the other one-​way system of filling with water (ow) and then letting it all go at once.
If you demanded a downside to Alec and Chakra 17 — as in, threatened to kick a puppy unless I named one — it would be the location, which took me a good 15 minutes to get to from inner Portland. Honestly, everything else was SIX Unilocal stars.

My experience at Chakra 17 was amazing. Alec is very professional and his passion for your individual wellness is so sincere and comforting. I have suffered from many aliments including irregularity. Afringe a routine colonic can drastically change you life for the better as it has mine.

I’ve been going to Chakra 17 since 2009 and I recommend them to anyone looking for the most peaceful colon hydrotherapy possible! Alec is just the best, a really wonderful and gentle soul, and I always leave feeling lighter, stronger, clearer, and healthier.

I recently had my very first colonic hydrotherapy session at Chakra 17. The results have already proven to be fantastic! So happy that I tried it.
In the recent years I’ve been trying to eat more healthy foods, but as a kid and young adult I never really paid attention/​took caution in regards to all the processed foods and junk food that I ingested. Also, I’ve always gotten quite tired and sluggish around the afternoon, and just felt incredibly burdened and overwhelmed. Little did I know that a lot of it had to do with my physiological state. So now in my mid-​twenties, I decided to do something really beneficial (if not crucial) for my health. I found Chakra 17 after searching online. I really liked what they wrote in their philosophy section, and after doing some research I was happy to see that they only did «gravity-​centered» colonic hydrotherapy.
The place itself is really nice (well decorated, very zen and light) and it makes you feel very cozy and relaxed right as you walk in. I was a little nervous about the procedure, but after we got started I was completely at ease. Alec is very professional and knowledgable, I learned so much about healthy digestion and just overall mind & body rejuvenation. I felt very respected as a client and human being. There was no pain whatsoever. It was just a funny feeling in my abdomen here and there, but overall it just a sense of relief and immediate comfort.
Walking out of the office, I felt like I had just been rid of a lot of toxicity and excess, and quite nurtured and hydrated, if I could describe it. I felt (and still feel) great emotionally. In an strange way, it really gives you «room to be calm» and think, since we store so much fear and anxiety in our digestive tract. I feel a lot more composed and much less irritable. It also eliminated a lot of back pain that I was having. I noticed on that first day that I didn’t have to take any Advil for back pain (which I didn’t even realize I was doing on a daily basis).
The biggest difference is that I suddenly don’t crave processed foods and sugar, whereas before, if I was stressed out or worried, I would always crave some sort of sweets/​carbs/​etc. Now I seriously just walk through a grocery store and have no interest/​temptation to buy anything junk-​food related. It’s just so incredibly freeing! I crave delicious veggies, protein and juice every day! I’d heard that everyone had different results from their first visit, so I was happy that my body wanted to make this fast turn-​around after such an important cleansing procedure. Looking forward to continuing the sessions and seeing more amazing results!

I am very grateful for the care I have received at Chakra 17. I worked at a wellness spa in SF that specialized in Colon hydrotherapy so I’ve had many treatments. I feel that the therapist really matters. I have never felt as comfortable and at ease as I feel with Alec. He has a very kind spirit and blesses you with his positive energy. He is very wise and a true healer. Just his presence alone is uplifting.
I have referred many friends to Alec and highly recommend his practice. Though I have not worked with his wife, I’m sure she is as equally wonderful.
