Want 2 meals for the price of one? Then Granny Boo’s is for you! The ladies who run this place are so incredibly nice. They were really fun to chat with. I had the club sandwich and it was humongous! It was stacked with tons of meat and cheese, plus lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and bacon. Very tasty. I also had the fries, which were super fresh and hot. They will give you both ranch and ketchup if you ask nicely. I liked the flavor of the oil they used for the fries, doesn’t seem like it would matter, but I’ve found it does. My friend had the reuben and sweet potato fries, which she said were good. We both had leftovers for the next day. They let us sample their pulled pork, which was decent, but I grew up in Memphis, land of pulled pork, and it wasn’t quite right to me. If you want to revert to childhood, they have a slew of popsicles and ice cream treats. We opted to move on to a cart with shaved ice, but they were definitely getting all the kid business in the pod with the popsicles, smart move. They have all kinds of sandwiches, real Italian sodas, fries, onion rings and more. It was $ 10 for a sandwich, fries and drink, which I thought was reasonable. I don’t know who Granny Boo is, but I like her food.

Let me start by saying these ladies are super nice! I finally talked the husband into trying something other than the Thai food from Tom at Cartlandia. The allure of the Meatball Sub was just too much for him to resist! The meatballs were moist, full of flavor and just the right size. The marinara was delicious and the bread fresh and of course the cheese. Provolone and parm. The only suggestion I would make would be to toast the bread. That would put it right over the top! The Pork sliders($ 1.50 each) are AMAZING!!! They make their own bbq sauce. We also tried the cheeseburger slider. Just yummy. Much better than Little Big Burger and a much better bang for you buck. Granny Boo’s also sells real Italian sodas, with whipped cream and a cherry. Lots of flavors to choose from. If you are in the area, check these ladies out and sample their fare.

Her first foray in the food and cart biz, «Buddha» has been in operation since March 17th of this year. She makes a heckuva breakfast sandwich. I had the Johnny Boy($ 5.50), featuring eggs over easy, cheese and 2 meats of my choice(I went all swine, all the time: bacon and sausage) on Texas toast. It was excellent! All it lacked was some hot sauce, but these days I carry plenty of my own, w/plenty a’ kick. I also tried the pulled pork slider, as it was on special for $ 1.50 It was a very generous mound of super moist, rich meat scooped onto an enriched dinner roll sliced in two. Though I had them hold the sauce to the side, there was already plenty mixed in w/the pork. If you’ve read any of my reviews you already know I love the meat smoky, tender, juicy, and preferably spicy. This sauce was sweet baby sweet. Not my bag, but I know lots of people love it like that… Service was super sweet and attentive. The lady had on a UHAUL employee shirt w/the name-tag patch«Buddha»… I have no idea if this was pure kitsch, or if she is in, fact, a moon-lightin’ momma/enlightened being who has escaped this karmic cycle. I privately wondered whether to ask her if she preferred to be called«Buddha» or «THE Buddha»… most other religions’ deities don’t use definitive articles… e.g., it isn’t «The Odin», just Odin; not«The Apollo» just Apollo(unless you’re talking about world famous music/comedy venues in NY); it’s not«THE Vishnu, just Vishnu; It’s not THE Muhammed or THE Allah; it’s not«THE Yahweh/Jehovah»…although you could certainly make a case that it’s the titular«The Christ/Messiah» or «The Anointed», and not a surname proper as you might have expected to see on his mail: «Rabbi Yeshua Messiah, Nazareth, Palestine/Israel» Digressions, digressions. Granny Boo, putting aside all these massive, unknowable theological questions, all we know for sure is, we really liked you. You said your pastrami is by far your best seller. Can’t wait to come back and try it out next time!

Granny Boo’s Deli is located at the Cartlandia food pod in Portland, Oregon. Co-owners Shelley Richmond and Lori Billa serve various breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and they are happy to make any order at any time if it’s available! After seeing Cartlandia’s Facebook page updated with a new cart alert(Granny Boo’s), I stopped by on a chilly, rainy day. Several items to choose from, all sounding delicious. At breakfast, you can choose from several breakfast sandwich possibilities and assorted muffins. Lunch brings an array of lunch subs. Factor in all possible toppings/condiments, and I swore my panda head spun around like some freak sideshow act. So many delicious choices… Eventually, I went for simple and awesome. Hot pastrami and Swiss, on a sub roll, with mustard and sauerkraut. A full sized sub roll, probably around a foot long, just packed with pastrami. A layer of melted Swiss stood between the bread and the meat. A healthy dousing of mustard and kraut later, I seriously wondered if the entire sandwich would fit inside my gut. $ 7.50? Good deal! Warm, juicy pastrami and a soft roll. Win. The cheese had hardened, but only due to the chilly weather and me snapping a zillion photos. Crunchy, tangy kraut and mustard was all I needed. Sure, I could have asked for more toppings(lettuce, tomato, etc.), but I wanted the full-on meaty, kraut-y experience. The presentation may have been messy, but it’s all good. I would have sat there all day eating this, frozen my panda ass off, and still been happy. It just may be a fork-and-knife job for the namby-pamby. Me? If there were no one else present, I’m diving in with no hands. Actually, there were people around, and I still went all in on this bad boy. Is there really any other awesome way to go about this one? This cart generally opens around 8 a.m. and goes into the evenings. Check this cart out!
