Matt is amazing! So much attention to detail and an all around great person. I’m so happy I found Black Dahlia Salon.

Matt Collins is not only the owner of this high end salon he produces high end results! He makes every client feel like they are his only client :). He will steer no one wrong when it comes to creating your own personal style and gives good advice.

Matt is a fabulous stylist. I’ve seen him twice, first to go for a major change (pixie cut) and then following up. In addition to the things noted about him by previous reviewers, I’d like to note that he is the BEST in attention-​to-​detail with your hair the entire time. He puts all his energy into his time with you, giving a great shampoo and scalp massage and then tending to every little hair on your head. He has a great sense of style and brings his ideas to yours. You can’t go wrong.

Sami has been cutting my hair for 9 years, since she was barely out of beauty school, and I won’t go to anybody else. She also cuts my daughter’s hair, and numerous friends as well. She’s amazing and I love the Black Dahlia salon. It’s a comfy place to be (I was there for three hours yesterday as I got a cut and color), there’s easy parking, and always wine available. I always give Sami a vague idea of what I want and put myself in her hands and she has never, ever failed me!

Sami, has been my stylist for over 10 years. I live in Los Angeles and make it a point to wait and get my hair cut in Portland because there is nobody else I would rather cut my hair. I highly recommend her.

I followed Matt (after only one appointment) when he decided to open Black Dahlia. The place is fantastic, comfortable and easy to get to (right on MLK with plenty of parking). Matt has always been flexible with my crazy schedule and has listened to all my wild requests.
As an artist, he’s amazing. After some horrendous experiences, I am so grateful to have found him. He knows I get bored with my hair easily, but still need to maintain a professional image. We’ve tried a lot of different ideas and every single one has come out beautifully. We have put together long-​term plans (like growing out my hair gracefully), but it never fails that I end up throwing a wrench in things and ask for the moon and stars.
As a natural medium/​light brunette, he pulls me up to a very light golden blonde every time and he does it exquisitely.
Roll all of that up and add that he has oodles of personality and passion? Once you try Black Dahlia, you’ll have no reason to try anywhere else.

What can I say. Matt is the best! Seriously. The. Best. I started seeing Matt two years ago, and while I like to have great looking hair, I also want it to be as natural as possible. There’s no way I’m going to spend more than 20 – 30 minutes styling my hair every day (that really just means blow drying it), and Matt gets that. He listens to any input I have, but I trust him so much to do what he thinks is best to fit my lifestyle and my hair. He also takes the time to teach me and explain what he’s doing, which I appreciate, and he’s meticulous. He makes sure that every hair looks exactly the way he wants it.
I had also never colored my hair until about a year ago. I noticed some grays (ugh, old-​er age), and I told Matt I needed them gone, but I didn’t want to do anything drastic. He, as always, listened and magically made them disappear, while still keeping my hair as great as he usually makes it. I’ve never NEVER been happier with my hair, and it’s all thanks to this guy. I always receive compliments on my cut and color after I leave the salon, and his cuts last weeks. They still look great 12 weeks after I’ve been to see Matt. When he started Black Dahlia, I was bummed that he wasn’t going to be three minutes away anymore, but I would follow him anywhere, and I LOVE going to his new space.
Go see him. You’ll never go anywhere else.
