Really authentic Mexican food probably the best in the East Bay. The taqueria in back is delish!!! Highly recommend this place! It’s cash only, but it’s so close to Walmart getting cash isn’t a problem! #worthit

Okay, I consider myself a dude of many regions. I’ve honestly lived at every point in the United States, but its something about southern snacks and foods that just drive me bananas. Now it’s nice knowing I have a place close by that sells things I was use too from my early years in Arkansas and Texas. The best part about it all… it’s very close to home. Don Pepes has got that magic and I will tell you why. I don’t really much consider myself a country boy anymore as my «Down South» living was before my mom dragged me from the south to the California way of life. When I say«South» I mean the Southern United States BTW, not to be confused with«Southern Cali» which is affectionately called«Down South» anyway back to my review. People from down south would love to come to this market, hogs head cheese, sausages fresh from farms and or processing plants, fresh cut meats that you see the butcher actually back there cutting and chopping up… the smell and the thought of it takes me back to my hometown in Arkansas where Butcher Block(a similar market) operated in such a mannor, and especially had an eye for the African American and Latino pallet. Back to the Market itself, its very small and kinda cramped in here. But, the product you get in here is worthwhile. I like coming in from time to time to grab a burrito(yes they have a full service mexican restaurant in here) and a few slices of Liver Cheese and Spicy Hogs Head Cheese… let me have a moment. my mouth is watering. Anyway, they have posted meat and meal options that you can select from. Or you can just go in and get what you want a la carte so to speak. I like the fresh fish selection and smoked sausages they have here and lets not forget the marinated meats as well, making this a perfect option for me when it comes to bbq and tacos. In conclusion, Don Pepes really caters to the surrounding population. The store honestly could use a little remodeling in my opinion to no seem so compact. And checking dates on product is a must here. So I suggest stay away from canned or jar items here. But the competitive prices and options still keep this business thriving considering it’s larger competition Mi Pueblo and La Superior is only a hop skip and jump away. Its located off Loveridge right in between Wal-Mart and Underdog Record and Apperal. If you’re seeking a real meat market, give this place a go. As always my review is one of some. Be your own judge and write your own review if you’re ever in the area!

Great lil neighborhood shop that sells Hispanic commodities and also a meat market. But what I want to talk about is the little gem of a restaurant they have in the back. Great food that they serve back there. The hot salsa is wayyy to hot for me but the flavors are great. The price is reasonable and the workers are kind.

My husband and I both got food poisening from their supper burrito. Strongly recommend you avoid. The owner is very rude too. They expect you to order at the grill and unless you pay cash you have to walk to the front, pay and then take the receipt back to the grill before they start cooking you food

I don’t mind driving a little bit out of the way to shop at my favorite local meat market as they are friendly, meat is always fresh, and they always have very unique Cajun spices that you can’t find at your typical local Box Store grocer. Support your local meat market at Don Pepe’s Mexican Market. RLP

Don Pepe has a large meat counter, groceries and beer in the center and a tiny taqueria in the right corner. there’s a few tables available for sitdown. drill: give seniorita the order, get a slip, pay at front cashier, get food from seniorita menu: usual taco, torta, burrito, and aqua fresca eats: carnitas burritos(4.79) –flour tortillia is lightly grilled along with carnitas. –beans, rice premade on counter, scooped to order –seniorita asked if i wanted sour cream, hot salsa after putting in onions? -«yes» i said. –burrito pretty large, bland at first. nice flavor half way thru. frijoles refritos: –burrito unexpectedly tasty. little expectations of it being so. –no doubt the add ons by the seniority did it. -«gracias» i told her when she handed me the burrito. she was all smiles and she said something like«no problem». –3.5 stars.

I went in the store to buy meat. The woman at the register was rude, told me to leave my cart in front of her store and when I asked her what if someone steals my things she shrugged and said«that’s not my problem.» I tried to ignore her poor customer service skills and proceeded to try and buy meat. The meat did not have ANY prices on it and when I asked the man who bags the meat how much things were, he quoted me prices, overpriced, from the top of his head!!! How awful!!! I told him I wouldn’t be back again. They had no right to treat me that way, at all. As a paying customer I told them I will take my business to Safeway. But I am royally pissed at how I was treated! No prices on the meat! And they were rude!!! This happened today!!! August 11, 2011 at 1:15 pm!!!

Okay, if you are from El Salvador like I am, you know there are very limited choices of good Salvadorean food in the East Bay. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this market carries the best Salvadorean pan dulce I have tasted in a while. They have limited choices but their semitas, quesadilla and salpores were delicious!!! As for the store, it’s on the small side, is next to Walmart in Pittsburg and they have different types of Latin products as well as cooked food to go. I ran in to get a calling card and when I asked for the El Salvador calling card, the lady suggested I try their Salvadorean bread. I’m glad I did!
