I always get the same thing, a large turkey and capicola sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, roasted red pepper, vinegar, and their hot giardiniera. It isn’t exactly a menu item, but they will happily throw together anything with the ingredients they have. Everything is fresh. They use jalapeños in the giardiniera, which is a little unusual, but very good. And the secret to a good sandwich is the bread, which they get right with an always fresh Italian bread with a chewy bite to it.
The people are friendly and recognized me after the second visit. The place is immaculately clean, and the woodwork is charming. They serve all the ‘eat-​in’ orders on real plates, which classes it up a bit more than your standard Potbellies or Jimmy Johns. You can get standard pop, nicer Pellegrino flavors, real tea, or they’ll pour you a free cup of ice water. Other menu items include pizza by the slice, salads, homemade soups, and a daily hot special. A friend once had the eggplant parm, which he declared excellent.
The sandwich I always get is a full 12″, and when you see it you’ll realize that other sub joints exaggerate the size of their sandwiches. It includes a bag of chips, which at $ 6.50 is a great deal, and could easily feed two.
I love being able to get great food, in a nice spot, for a good price, all with the owner right there, or at his fancier restaurant next door, to greet you.

The food is fresh, prepared well and always excellent! The specials offer a great variety from the standard menu of sandwiches, pizza, subs, salad and soup and are always amazing. They recently added new staff and they are friendly, sincere and helpful. If you had a prior negative experience with some of the old staff, please try Ernesto’s again. You won’t be disappointed.

Glad to see a place like this in park ridge. Went there twice and had good experiences both times. Ordered pizza by the slice both times and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Generous slices of great tasting pizza. My friend tried a sub sandwich and had good things to say. Locals should definitely give this place a shot. Reasonably priced and clean décor.
I will definitely go back. Made me wonder… why didn’t a place like this exist before?

Love being able to grab a quick slice of pizza for me or the kids! The NY style thin is great and we get ours well done to crisp it up more –if you’re into that. As always fast, friendly service like their other restaurant Gumba Joes.

Got the small Italian sub, was fantastic! Meats sliced in front of you, super soft bread, free bag of chips!!! Amazing and I’ll be back for sure!!!

Great sandwiches, we got the turkey and it was perfect! It comes with chips, which was a lovely surprise. The place is really nice inside and fyi the gardinera is not that hot. Ans the bread is spectacular and fresh

Really good salads at this sandwhich/​pizza/​etc. shop. I love the chopped salad so much I ordered a whole tray to take to a July 4 party in Indiana. Everyone loved it!

Think this is the same menu as the establishment’s prior name.
I ate al fresco. Cheese sub and roasted potatoes. All good. Bread not stale, paramount for a good sub.
They also own the restaurant a few doors down, Gumba Joe’s which I’ve not yet tried.
