The fact that this place smelled overwhelmingly like a grandpa’s armpit will be enough to keep me from returning. The BO smell was disgusting. If that’s not bad enough, the tables in the main dining room are so smashed together that you can barely move. The chips and salsa were ok, but I’ve had better. I ordered chili rellenos and they sauce ruined the whole dish. I would have almost preferred ketchup over that terrible red sauce that tasted like unseasoned tinned tomato sauce. Mom got chicken soft tacos. They were actually good. The fideo was good too. One last gripe. Don’t just assume you need to give me a lesson in Spanish when you’re taking my order. You’re food is not authentic ehen you ask if you want orange cheese or white cheese.

This place was awful. Everything. This place has a cult following, I don’t know why. We arrived for dinner and the hostess/owner told us there would be a 15 minute wait which was fine. However, people came in after us and were seated before us. The owner leaned into them and said I will get you a seat. She did this three times. Apparently they were regulars. I let this go as I have benefited from this at places I frequent. But now the food. Ugh!!! Worst chips and salsa I have had in this town. Food was cold and barely edible. Now everything could have been made better by a decent margarita — but no!!! They are expensive and taste like grain alcohol. It’s great you can get a buzz but who cares if it tastes like crap. I thought this place was popular but with only eight tables(I’m guessing at this number) it’s going to look busy. Save yourself the time and money and hit southwest boulevard.

Went to this place because walking by one night my wife thought it looked magical with the lighting on their patio. Learned not to judge by the string lights. The décor was nice, and the service was adequate and timely. However eating under a waterfall could not make this food any better. The cheese sauce was rather industrial tasting, lacking any sense of real cheese and not even seeming like melted Velveta, the can opener is used well. The beans seemed to be from a neighboring can, under seasoned and lacking any of the flavors I hope for. The drinks were strong, which was a plus. The only thing making this restaurant worthwhile was the guacamole, which actually was good, however maybe that is just because it is the only thing that had enough salt.

I love Torreon! The staff is always so nice and fun to talk to. Their margaritas are yummy and I love to get the pineapple quesadillas and queso! I want to go back again soon.

Worst chips and salsa ever. Salsa had some heat but no other flavor; it was like spicy tomato sauce. Chips were not light and crispy; over fried. The margarita was a scary green color and tasted even worse. The entrée was ok. The burrito and tamale were decent but the enchilada was sad. The whole plate was covered in nacho cheese sauce like from a convenience store. Really? The rice was awful. It had no flavor and wasn’t fluffy. Definitely DONOT recommend this place.

I decided to sit on the patio which had a nice little atmosphere. The chips and salsa was decent. I ordered the chili rellanos and a red chunky chili sauce and it tasted a bit spoiled or not fresh. I will never return because there is no way you serve old food to a customer and expect them to make referrals or return for that matter.

I love the set up… Very cute little restaurant but the chicken quesadilla I got was not very good. Way too much refried beans in it and they put what looks like a slice of cheese on top…

Great food for this tiny family ran eatery. Great margs, salsa, and chips! Food arrived quickly and was really tasty.

I love this place! The avocado enchiladas are incredible and the green margaritas are fun and strong. The place is tiny so be prepared to wait unless you get there right when it opens. The service is friendly. This is a nice casual mexican restaurant with good food. My only complaints are that the price of the drinks are a bit too steep and the seating is very cramped. Be prepared to be friends with everyone around you because you will squeezed in right next to them.

Great margaritas. Good food. Tight fit. Only complaint is that the owner’s perfume when she visited the neighboring table was overwhelming!

This off-the-beaten-path restaurant is known for their margaritas, and now I know why! If you have more than one, plan on a cab ride home. This is a family owned place, and the family is there to greet you! The restaurant is very small, so there is often a wait. The food is good — nothing fancy or trendy, just good Mexican food! I had the fish tacos(they are not on the menu, but they usually have them) and they hit the mark. Others in my party had the stacked enchilada(kind of like a Mexican lasagna — layered tortillas) and tacos. Everything was really good and the portions were nice, but not huge, which I appreciate since you eat a meal in itself with the chips and salsa. I’ll be back, next time with a DD!

I love the atmosphere here. Sitting on the patio is fun and intimate. Inside, it’s a bit more like a café where you are saying hello to the table next to you. It is small and quaint. The food is always good here and I do enjoy the service. It is a nice place to take a date. My issue is the drinks have way too much alcohol in them. I have seen another review stating the drinks were too watered down. Not on the night we were there — we were really worried about driving and ended up having a friend drive for us. We each had one mini-margarita. We didn’t even drink all of our mini margarita because it was way too strong. A guy sitting near us had a jumbo margarita and also discussed how there was way too much alcohol in his drink. By the way, the mini margarita is $ 6.95 and the jumbo margarita is $ 7.95. If you are going to get a margarita, get a jumbo margarita and split it. If you have a drink here, make sure you have a designated driver. The manager needs to realize if you put less alcohol in a drink, customers will buy more than one drink. Whew! One drink did me in. Never again. But it is a nice place to eat some good Mexican. Not as good as Frontera’s, but the atmosphere is more cozy than Frontera’s.

This is one of those blink and you miss it kind of places. Doesn’t help that it’s nestled right behind the Phillips 66 station at 87th and Santa Fe in Overland Park, KS. Inside the restaurant is small. Ok it’s actually tiny. The patio area is pretty awesome though and a great place to sit in the warm summer air and drink antifreeze margaritas. Yes I just said antifreeze margaritas. Once you go there and see the color of the margaritas you will understand exactly what I am talking about. This is honestly one of my favorite margarita and taco joints in the metro. Especially if it’s warm and I can chill out on the patio. There are honestly few places in the metro with better margaritas in my opinion. The ones here have a unique coloring, excellent taste and you won’t be able to stop at just one.

Service and food make a restaurant. So far today service is lacking so bad I am not sure super awesome food will make up for this disaster. This has been one of the worst restaurant experiences we have experienced to date. Seated on patio at 515pm, at 530pm we were asking if we had a server and could get some water. We already had two baskets of chips delivered from the chip guy, he was on it but the server was slacking. I asked the host if she could send our server over, she said yes but she has a big table too. I DON’T CARE about a table of ten, it’s just us and them. She comes over and drops waters off and takes her sweet time coming back for a drink order, we ordered the fish bowl margs which came in plastic solo style cups(hmm). Cutting to the chase. We order two nachos and two tamales, server doesn’t ask about sides at all and when we realize this we ask her about them. She said specifically that tamales do not come with sides, but if we wanted them it would be extra. My brother in law asked if she could bring the menu back for a minute, she then changed her tune to «if you want sides I can get them at no charge». We said just bring the menu, the menu cleared the dilemma as it clearly said they include two sides. He ordered beans and rice, she walks away with out asking me what I wanted. At this point she was snotty as they get, so it was by by tip time. They sides comes out beans and rice for both of us, which was fine as I probably would have ordered the same anyhow. On the way out we stopped at the host stand and asked for the chip guy/kid and tipped him $ 10, we said do not share it because she didn’t earn it with that attitude. A women behind the bar asked if everything was ok, I asked if she was the manager and she was not but pointed to the guy at the end of the bar as the manager. I simply said he should visit the tables and not sit at the bar, we never saw him on the patio at all. I explained that this was one of the worst dining experiences since we moved to the KC area. Managers need to be making rounds, it;s that simple. Get off your ass and visit the tables. The food was decent, we may go back but be damned if she was our server ever again. Rant. over.

Last place I would expect to find good Mexican food. I came here with a couple of co-workers after work for dinner. Being from LA/OC/SD, I was a little skeptical about how good this place would be. I came here with an open mind and low expectations and this place blew me out of the water. We had their famous margaritas; I’m not sure why it was neon green, but it was actually pretty tasty(and strong). We tried their half-stack enchiladas(it’s not on the menu… just a smaller portion), and it was pretty legit. Great sauce, soft tortillas, tender and pieces of chicken; everything came together quite well. My only complaint is this restaurant is too crowded. It’s difficult to maneuver between the tables when you have curves like me(fat ass). Oh well, the people that come here are pretty friendly and don’t mind if you knock over their stuff with your butt. Overall, A+ experience! A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. I needed a new makeover to boost my geeky image. I applied for a cooking position at a Mediterranean-Italian Restaurant near my home and learned to cook all sorts of dishes. I never became a professional chef, but I continue to enjoy & love food. 9 years later and 55 lbs heavier, I have a new passion for traveling and trying different foods around the world.

My family makes it a point to visit Torreon every time we make the trek to KC. Torreon is the perfect example of my favorite type of restaurant: a casual local gem that is content to make fantastic food and not try to become a mini-chain. I believe that Torreon has been around for quite awhile; my wife discovered it while in college. Our visits here have always been topnotch; friendly service and fabulous food in a cozy atmosphere. The whole place seats maybe 50 people, and lines can get pretty long if you don’t get there early. About that, don’t leave just because there is a line, ITISWORTHTHEWAIT. Start off with one of the margaritas, they are fantastic. You can also get the house margarita mix to take home and mix your own. Chips and salsa are standard, freshly made every day, and regularly replenished by the excellent waitstaff. I order the tamales every time; they are simply the best I have ever had, anywhere. Hand wrapped in corn husks and served with homemade red sauce… yum. It makes me want to drive up to KC just thinking about it. the combo platters are all fantastic, and have generous portions of tamales, enchiladas(chicken, beef, and cheese), burritos, tostadas… too much to list here. needless to say, it’s all excellent. the sides of re fried(or black) beans and rice are good as well. Dessert… just three words: fried ice cream. If you’re in the Overland Park area and haven’t been here before, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t be disappointed.

My Wife and I both loved the food here. Sure it was a little pricey but it was so tasty that I almost didn’t mind. Plus, the portion sizes are big enough to take some home and enjoy it again. My wife got a combo plate and I got the chicken quesadillas. I would just like to say that I have never had such a tasty and packed full quesadilla. The chicken was hand pulled and soooo flavorful and moist. My wife, a contasure of salsas, love the salsa and chips. The queso, although expensive $ 7, was so wonderful! It tasted like real cheese and was nice and creamy. I spoke to the owner who said that this was was first Mexican restaurant in Overland Park and that she has owned it for 35 or 40 years. She was very friendly and actively helping out the staff. I also loved that the menu said that«well behaved children were welcome»! Good, I agree! The restaurant its self is in an old home and small but pleasant. My one complaint about the size was that noise level was pretty loud. I give it 4 instead of 5 stars based on the price and noise level. We will surely be back next time we have that Mexican food itch.

I like that this place is tucked away right off of 87th and they have a nice ambiance on their patio. The service is also usually pretty good, but that is where the positives end. I’ve probably been here a dozen times and I’m not sure why I keep coming back. The food here is no bueno. I had a taco that was already soggy by the time it was served. I also ordered a chicken and cheese enchilada. What I received what a piece of fried cheese sitting on top over dry, shredded chicken. I’m not even sure what you would call that. The margaritas here are strong, but taste awful. The house margaritas are neon green. We were there with a group of nine of us and six people got sick later. I may come back, but it will only to be to have some cold beers on the patio.

I visited Torreon for the first time on Friday night. We got there not long after it opened, so there was no wait and we were seated right away. I ordered the beef gorditas with spanish rice and refried beans with a raspberry margarita. Positives: –The food was excellent, and the portions were decent sized. Like most Mexican places, it came with unlimited chips and salsa. –The raspberry margarita(a summer-only special) was awesome… not a huge«fruity-drink» fan, but these were tasty. Negatives: –This restaurant is very small… so get there early. They are also only open for dinner(5pm-10pm) and lunch on Fridays. And that is it. –Since it’s so small, it can get packed in there a bit loud. It wasn’t a big deal for us, but might not ok with everybody. Definitely a little hidden gem in Overland Park, I’ll be back to Torreon again!
