Had dinner here tonight. Party of three service was good a little slow but not too bad. I had a rib eye and it was average to slightly better. Chowder was good. One buddy had the cedar plank salmon and the board was not charred at all. Looks like they just cut a chunk of someone’s cedar fence down. Other buddy had the shrimp Caesar and thought it was pretty good. Pricy $ 111.00 for dinner for 3 with a side of chowder. Probably won’t be back as there are tons of choices when visiting the bay side.

We enjoyed a day in Olympia along the water front. After going to the farmer’s market we had a wonderful lunch at Budd Bay Café. We ordered clam chowder. We are pretty picky about our chowders and we were not disappointed. Not too many potatoes. Clams were tender and plentiful. The waitress also offered to top our chowder with a splash of sherry. Which was wonderful. We also ordered the cioppino, coconut shrimp and calamari. All of which was cooked perfectly. I have only tasted calamari one other time that was so tender and not chewy. Service was attentive and friendly. Love the casual atmosphere. And the view just made everything that much better. I will be back.

First time at Budd Bay for dinner. Overall ambiance is underwhelming. Ordered the special for dinner; seafood medley; rice pilaf was undercooked and some shrimps were over cooked but the sauce was tasty. Waiter was inattentive and annoyed. He didn’t explain any of the specials or offer guidance in ordering. He only came by once to ask how the food was. For the amount that we paid, sadly, I will not be coming back here. To sum it up, small portion to value.

Great food, and when you dine in I had great service, that being said I ordered a shrimp and crab Cobb salad. I ordered it twice before there and there has never been an issue. I ordered it Friday and paid happy left the restaurant drove on my way. Around the fountain the box opens up and I look there’s no crab. I call back and talk to the same woman who I placed my order with. She continued to tell me I didn’t order that, it wasn’t on the menu and I was wrong. I said I was craving crab and that’s the only reason I ordered from there. Her response was that must have been a special or the waiter added a side of crab. Okay fine she then says I can turn around for a side to put with my salad, okay fine. I drive back around to pick up my side and fix THEIR mistake. I am then charged for my 2 oz side of crab 7.15 with tax. Seriously you screw up and then charge me again plus had me turn around. Horrible service to go. The host should learn customer service.

We went back on 05⁄26 and our server was Steven, who was totally awesome. He was fun, attentive and very diplomatic when we discussed The Oyster house which is dying a slow death. Budd Bay is our new local Sea Food favorite. You sit with a view of the Marina and boardwalk. The café is set up so there is no seat without a fantastic view. The food is very good, I had the panko fish and chips… YUMMY. My husband had the fish tacos which he gave and enthusiastic thumbs up. Food is only one component of a good experience. When combined with outstanding service, great view, and happy staff it’s a total winner.

We always enjoy going to Budd Bay for Happy Hour and being served by Britt. He’s fast, efficient and makes drinks the way they’re supposed to be made. He’s the epitome of what a bartender should be– frequently checking in with you and there when you need him without being obtrusive. Cajun Calamari and Goat Cheese /Garlic appetizers are delish.

Went for the Sunday brunch buffet. Food was good and priced a bit high at $ 26 per adult. Sorry to get a little sexist here but the difference in wait staff professionalism was strictly down gender lines in the staff we had contact with. The male waitstaff were awesome and they were top notch! As for the female hostesses and wait staff, wow, talk about terrible attitudes. They spent a lot of time sitting, ignoring people and answering questions with short one word responses, no smiles at all. They truly looked bored with the whole thing and made us feel a bit uncomfortable. One waitress spilled an entire drink on a customer and then when she walked away began making rude remarks and in short, tantruming. I get having a bad day, but go have your fit away from customers. This won’t deter us from the great views and yummy food, but it won’t lead us to give it glowing reviews either.

We visited Olympia for the day and ate lunch at The Budd Bay Café. It is located on the waterway which offers a great atmosphere for dining. We visited on a warm spring day, so enjoyed the outdoor seating area. We both had the fish & chips. The two-piece option(for $ 9.99) was more than sufficient. The cod was moist, the panco batter crisp and flakey. The tartar sauce was amazing!(This is something I judge very closely when it comes to fish & chips.) Even the coleslaw was excellent(being the slightly sweet type with what I thought to be a hint of grape.) the«chips»(French fries) had a batter and were wonderful! our server was friendly and kept our water glasses full. We ordered an Italian margarita and Capitan’s lemonade. Both great! It was a beautiful day, wonderful food, and fabulous location! We will be back!

Budd Bay just might be#1 on the chowder list now that I’ve hit here 2 days in a row!!! It is outstanding!!! Two days in a row, I know this makes me a tad boring, but great chowder is worth it two days in a row

Delicious food. We had the mozzarella chicken sandwich, fresh chicken parm, veggie burger, and cioppino — all were happy. Lots of choices, both seafood and otherwise. Very friendly and proficient wait staff. Will be back with friends! Worth the drive from Tacoma.

I went there for lunch. I had clam chowder and pan fried oysters in mind. My wife took a look at the buffet and the rest is history. Burp. Bacon, four crisp strips were first on the plate followed by one sausage link. I took one Egg Benedict in the center of my plate, drenched it in hot crab and artichoke dip then topped that off with a bunch of shrimp. A hunk of wasabi salmon then I filled the rest of the plate with a mound of Manila Clams. Groan. I cleaned the plate then got two small desserts to finish me off… a small crème brûlée and a slice of flourless chocolate cake. Way too much food. No dinner tonight. The restaurant has a nice view of the harbor. The facility was clean and very busy. Our waiter, Jeremiah, did an excellent job of keeping drinks filled and the table clear of unneeded dishes. We will be going back next time we are down Olympia way.

An Olympia staple, you’ll never regret a visit to Budd Bay Café. Located right in the heart of the Olympia Marina, the summer deck seating offers wonderful views with your meals while inside seating is cozy but not at all crowded. The food is consistently fresh and made well and the chowder is to die for. Some of the best chowder in town, hands down! They have a wide variety of options, from higher end seafood dishes to burgers and more basic options, a little bit of everything really. They also have a few good vegetarian options which is always a plus! And if you ever experience a lull in conversation with your meal guests while siting in the inside dining room, look no further than the very quirky woodland scene on the wall opposite the windows, and marvel at the fish swimming through the trees. I’ve been visiting this restaurant for years and I will never understand that décor decision, but I wouldn’t want them to change it, either.

We call Budd Bay«the Club House». In the summer, we frequently have lunch on the deck(one of the best places to dine al fresco in Oly). The food is always well prepared and flavorful. There are no swings in quality. My spousal unit’s go-to is the wasabi salmon. Tonight she said it was super!(it was her birthday dinner so I was glad it was a good one) And in non-summer, how is Budd Bay? Just as good ! The servers are good and quickly add to your group’s fun and celebration. Tonight, Maggie played right along with me being a smart alec when I ordered my veggie soft tacos«medium rare». Food(check). Service(check). Fun(check).

We just had a fantastic meal. Sat outside with terrific weather being the first week of October. Our waitress was fantastic and I am sad to say I can’t recall her name. We started with the crab cakes which were the best I’ve ever had. All crab, very little breading. I then had the seafood sauté salad. Delicious! Fresh scallops, shrimp and crab. My husband had the blackened salmon which he raved about. We are on vacation from Maine, but if we were a local, we’d definitely be returning. Thank you!

So disappointed that the quality of food has gone downhill. The salmon dish I normally order was overcooked, encrusted in peppercorns, and was accompanied by a bunch of mushy carrots. The only thing that has increased around here is the price. I’m not sure if they have recently changed chefs, but I noticed that even the sweet potato fries have changed. This used to be one of my favorite lunch spots, but after the sub par meal today, I won’t be coming back.

I loved this place! The waiters were funny and friendly, the bartender did great with, ‘make me something yummy’ and the location is spectacular for summer dinners! I had the fish tacos and woah… the blackened fish paired with the fresh crispy cabbage and cilantro/lime sauce was sheer perfection. The fish was tender and flavorful, the tortillas soft and fresh-tasting — and really, to me, when you’re eating fish, and sitting near the water with the sun shining, all is right in the world. If I’m ever back in the Olympia area, this is a definite stop!

First– the location can’t be beat. It’s right on the marina. I could see my boat from the table. Service was good, and the food was excellent. My friend Rob and I came for lunch. I had the crab cake burger. It was an open-faced sandwich, and it was so tasty. It came with perfectly cooked batter-dipped fries. And a Stella. It’s hard to beat a cold beer and a crab cake, in the early summer at the marina. I’ll be back.
