This was a lovely surprise. Came here with a friend who lives in the neighborhood and he swears by this place. Walking in I wasn’t overly impressed, as the place was quiet and pretty unassuming. We sat at the bar and my friend told the sushi chef to make us whatever was most fresh. After that, it was just dish after dish of fresh, tasty goodness. Fresh sushi that practically melted in my mouth– each piece better than the next. The chef and staff were very friendly and helps make you feel comfortable. Now that I know this place– I hope to come back again soon. Great time!

We gave this place a try recently after we stopped ordering from it years ago after hearing that the quality of the sushi is much improved. This was a delivery. We order the sashimi deluxe and chirashi as well as some other prepared food. Generally, the fish is acceptable but clearly not a quality grade. I would rate it average. Additionally, the variety of fish in these two orders was average. This would all be fine to the extent the prices were reflective of these two factors. However, when comparing the price of our order to that of another nearby Japanese restaurant where the quality and variety are much better, it really makes no sense, unfortunately, to have the food here. There is nothing wrong with the food, but nothing outstanding either, and when juxtaposed with the price, it is hard to justify ordering from here.

Excellent sushi, great service and a great new décor. Tokyo bay has been here for years but after a renovation it is now stylish as well as great value.

This restaurant has been serving the neighborhood for over a decade — and was recently remodeled, a gut renovation in February. The new look is clean and modern, wood floors, and uncluttered walls, with the same fresh fish, solid service and good value that has made it a neighborhood standard, which is why I eat there nearly once a week. You’ll always find the owner behind the counter — he’s also the head Chef. In addition to slicing, serving, and chopping, he’s usually innovating — recent additions to the menu include a rice wine marinade, and a miso marinade, lively and zesty touches that keep the palate happy and the sushi interesting. Last night, the scallop was particularly good, as were the mackerel and the sea urchin. Green Dragon roll is a nice presentation of unagi, and a large meal for two, including appetizers, sashimi, the Green Dragon roll, a large a la carte selection of sushi, and green tea ice cream — came to $ 123, without the sake and wine. My favorite spot is the far end of the sushi bar, all the way into the restaurant, where I can talk to the chef, watch him work, and learn something while enjoying a great meal. Delightful way to spend an evening.

Great sushi for a fraction of the price of some other Tribeca places. Can’t believe it wasn’t more crowded — definitely coming back!

The food is decent, but the maki roll lunch specials are rolled with way too much rice. Overall, this place is overpriced considering the fish they use is just okay at best.

I just ordered over $ 100 worth of sushi from Tokyo Bay. When it came we were disappointed by the look of it before we even tasted anything. The way the pieces were cut jagged … It just did not look how sushi normally looks. The color of the tuna and yellowtail was off. The color of the avocado was browning. Then we tasted it and the seaweed was chewy, the fish not fresh or soft. It was tough and the rice was definitely not soft. My husband said he was worried we would get sick so we threw it all in the garbage. I was soooo upset. We called them to tell them and the woman on the phone ignored everything my husband said and just answered him, «yes, the tuna is the chef special, thank you, bye» and hung up on him. I am so unhappy with this experience. We literally just threw our hard earned money in the garbage and it ruined my night.

This place is great! I came here with my 2 daughters, and the food is wonderful! It is a cosy setup, with great customer service Our favorites were the baken tuna and the eggplant miso, it melts in your mouth. Would definitely recommend this neighborhood gem!

Judged from the restaurant setup, it probably had more glorious days, but sadly, no more. We went in during a summary Saturday evening during peak time(7−8pm), and there were three tables including us. All of the restaurants nearby could hardly find space. We ordered an appetizer and sushi & Sashimi for two. The roll seemed hastily prepared, some of the sashimi was a bit dry(tuna). Given how low customer volume it was, it may beg the question of how fresh the raw fish was… One thing that bothered us the most was that the sole sushi chef(presumably the owner) with a short pony tail was on the phone the entire time we were there. While he was using a headset, it just was simply unprofessional to be chatting on the phone while preparing others food, aside from hygiene concerns(not sure if there’s any accidental spit on the food…)

It’s our go to in the neighborhood. Reasonable prices and quality is good. Passionate sushi chef– owner. We love the spicy girl special roll and make a point of trying the king salmon, it’s heavenly! Service isn’t great but they try hard. If we order take out we pick up cause our apt is hard to find. We usually leave very happy.

Got take out while at a friends house. Their delivery is fast and the rolls are pretty good. I docked one star because we paid extra for all rolls to be inside out(rice on outside) and half of them came traditional with rice inside. We were disappointed especially because it was like $ 1 for each to change in addition to getting brown rice too. We were too hungry to call and complain but I will definitely do so if it happens again.

Have no idea what the low reviews are about — seems like all take out people who had to wait an hour for arrival. The dinner experience in the restaurant was phenomenal. The food was prepared and served as it was ready. UNBELIEVABLE! ask for recommendations instead of ordering off menu. Cute, simple reasonable place. House wine was great! Dessert also good. Will definitely be back :-)

Absolutely awful. Took over an hour to arrive. I recieved a 5 piece sushi roll(«king crab» roll) that cost $ 10. Pathetic

Fine Japanese food with varied sushi menu. All the selections ordered were good. I enjoyed every bite of it. I came on a Sunday evening. Not many people in the restaurant though they were busy with take-out orders. Their take-out sushi combo was quite generous and looked delicious. Can’t believe such good quality fish and sushi for such reasonable price. Great value. Décor is simple and tasteful. The wood interior give it a bright and calming atmosphere. Friendly service. Overall, I liked it very much and definitely will be going back again.

Absolutely delicious! One of the best Japanese restaurants in TriBeCa for the price! I ordered the diner box which includes 3 main items in addition to miso soup, salad and rice for $$. My 3 main items were teriyaki chicken, sushi, and chicken yakitori. The teriyaki chicken was perfect, juicy and not dry. The teriyaki sauce was tasty. Chicken yakitori was also delicious. Perfect texture. You can tell they use good quality chicken. I also loved my vegetable sushi. I sat by the counter, so I talked to the sushi chef, who is also the owner, about the food. He believes to have good sushi you need to have specially good rice. He seems knowledgable and passionate about his cooking. Good to see people put their heart into what they do. I had a fine and satisfying diner, good value for the price. Will definitely go back!

Take-out order review. We haven’t explored the service, décor, and other qualities of the restaurant. Stay tuned. Pros: Sushi quality is wonderful for the price. Got several pieces of sushi a la carte, including squid, uni, and others. Very good quality. Cons: This is nit picking… but the spicy roll had a bit too much crunch. a little distracting. Recommend: The toro roll is only 8 bucks something, and it’s really high quality. The value is comparable to Sushi Yasaka, so it’s really good. Bottom Line: Currently the best sushi take-out in the battery-park/fidi area. imho.

We ordered take out from here and it was brilliant. I got the Maki Combo, and my wife got the Sake Don. The salmon was fresh and delicious, and I had some of the nicest California rolls I’ve had in NYC. I’d definitely recommend for reasonably priced sushi.

Half hour delivery. I had two simple rolls(a California and an avocado) and they were both sloppily put together. When I was trying to separate them one of them would break in half practically… The seaweed wasn’t holding together the avocado roll and the rice on the outside of the Cali roll was coming off. The rice was very sticky and would literally come off onto the next thing it touched. It did not taste fresh at all. If I hadn’t been so hungry I wouldn’t have eaten more than one piece from each roll. I could tell it was still safe to eat, it just looked and tasted like it had been sitting in the container the whole day in a supermarket.

Sometimes you revisit restaurants time and time again because they are just damn good, other times it’s because they are convenient and OK. This falls into the latter. I think I’ve had most of the items on the menu, and I can’t say there is anything above average, spectacular or mind blowing about any of it. There is also nothing below average, terrible or WTF about any of it. We just come back for the convenience and the people know us. We sit down and without saying a word and two glasses of wine show up. The pours are heavy, granted the wine is bottom of the barrel, but the pours are still generous. I hate to sound repetitive here, but everything is just average. It’s the opposite of that Seinfeld episode where everything evens out for him(he loses a dollar, and then he finds a dollar, etc.). Over here it’s never a win or a lose, it’s just always even and average. The sushi is fresh, but there is no presentation, inventive rolls or twists. Any sauces taste like they are from the bottle soy, hoisin or teriyaki. But with that said it’s still good, just won’t make you go wow. It’s same deal with the dumplings. They taste good, but they’re not made on the premises and come here in boxes, probably frozen. Not sure how much different they would taste if you bought them at Trader Joes and steamed, fried or boiled them yourself. Probably the same. We don’t come here to get hammered or for the wine, but it would be nice every so often to get a buy back. If we’re at three glasses each, and we’re here once a week or so, every so often a glass on the house would be a nice gesture. The only things not average are the prices for the area. The lunch specials/boxes are a steal, and the regular menu items are on the lower side as well. The convenience of this place, consistent food and low prices is what keeps this place at 3 stars.

Neighborhood resto. Good variety, reasonable prices and friendly service. Living nearby makes this attractive for any day. It is good for take-out or stopping in on the way home. No one is going to travel from other parts of the city to go here. We’ll go here again.
