This place is so over hyped, it’s ridiculous. I’ve never waited so long for lackluster food in my life. You think after you order 3 lobster dinners, that they would at least provide you prompt service. Food was cold, and lacked flavor. I had the Tuna Tartare, and it was nothing to brag about. This had to be cold, as it was raw tuna, however it tasted like nothing. The sauces they provided were weak. We had no soy sauce. I don’t know why they would top it with avocado, and not think that you would need some type of sauce for flavor. I had some of the rolls, ok it’s «Dominican Fusion», but I didn’t know that meant adding a platano maduro to everything. I was thinking there would be more of the flavors that you get from Dominican cuisine. I was sadly disappointed. For my main course, I had the lobster, on a bed of sorry mashed potatoes, with some kind of pink sauce that tasted like nothing, and sautéed spinach that lacked flavor. They garnished my plate with a flower which was pretty, however I feel inedible garnishes are so amateur. I asked the server for butter, she looked at me like I had five heads, then returned with a chunk of butter, to which I said«No, we would like melted butter for the lobster». She returned saying«We don’t normally do this, but I did it for you.» Thank you, for the extra time and energy you spent on melting butter for my cold lobster tail. Again, a flavorless meal. They pack you into the place like sardines, I could barely move in my seat, because I had other patrons sitting right on top of me! My ears are still ringing from the loud music; no possibility for conversations with anyone at my table. At least the drinks were decent. The servers were unapologetic about the slow service. We waited at least a ½ hour for drinks. Don’t waste your time or money…

I wasn’t crazy about the size and décor but the food was fresh and delicious. Love the fusion of Spanish and Japanese.

Great food, service and drinks! I loved having brunch there and I’ll be coming for dinner soon! The décor is super cute as well! One thing tho, the music truly doesn’t need to be that loud. I could barely hear the person sitting across from me :-/ Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to coming back! :)

I’m giving this place 3.5 stars. And this is why… I bought the $ 80 for 4 people groupon to use on my birthday. Before purchasing I emailed the business to make sure 2 people could use it. I was told yes. I when I called as per the instructions before going and they told me they didn’t have any space.(Around 7pm) so we had to go eat somewhere else. 2 weeks later I made a reservation on 01⁄31 for 6pm. We got there around 5:30 and got seated right away. I told the waiter that we had a groupon and asked how to use it as it was the first time we used one. He told us that they were currently serving the brunch menu and groupon couldn’t be applied to it as their regular menu wasn’t in effect. I decided to look at the brunch menu to see if we wanted to just pick from it or wait for 6pm to use the groupon. Nothing from brunch called my attention so we decided to wait. My boyfriend ordered some dumplings from the brunch menu and I ordered a coconut mojito. At around 5:50 our waiter brought us the regular menu and told us to start selecting our rolls as they take about 20 minutes to be ready. We ordered 5 rolls, calamari and Dominican fried rice. The rice and calamari came out first. My calamari were delicious. My boyfriend also liked his rice(he’s very picky about food). After a while out rolls came out. They were really good! I ended up eating most of them since my boyfriend thought they tasted like seafood(I made sure to order all meat rolls because doesn’t eat seafood). When we ordered dessert(ice cream tempura) we where told they were out so had to order tres leche. It was ok. Tasted like your topical Spanish restaurant tres leche with a passion fruit topping and some fresh fruit. The food was good. Now for the ambience. Hookas and hooka smoke everywhere. If you like to talk while you’re eating this place is not for you. My boyfriend and I had to text each other during our whole dinner lol. The waiter was nice. I think he was the only waiter in the entire place which if that’s the case, made him really good! The tables are very close to each other and there’s hardly any space to get up and go to the restroom. Our bill came out to around $ 51 so we spent $ 91 with the groupon. Not too bad I would say since I had 2 alcoholic drinks. So if you like hooka, loud music, reggaeton, sushi, are a small group and don’t have to get up a lot to use the restroom, then you would like this place! Overall I liked it lol

I made a reservation the previous day and when I got there the waiters told me the reservation didn’t go through. I was extremely annoyed because I was with a party of eight and I planned to celebrate my cousins birthday. The waiters however did a great job accommodating us and for that reason I stayed. Coconut mojitos are delicious and strong. The food was ok but nothing to go head over heels about. Groupon brought me here and even though the groupon was for four people they made an exception and allowed us to redeem the voucher for a party of eight. The tables are tight and I have a big rear, it was difficult trying to walk in there. The place is too small for all those tables. The staff is awesome !

I came here for a friend’s birthday with 8 other people. She made reservations about a week in advance. We got our seats and we waited… and waited. and waited for about an hour for our food to come out. After we got our check, we were essentially rushed out for another reservation, even though it took them so long to get our food to us. The place is a little small, so we were seated super close to other tables. I thought the food was superb(I got the Nueva York and Spicy Salmon rolls) which made up for the overall experience. Parking was decent; they had a free parking deck. I think I’d like to come back sometime, but most likely not in a large group.

Came here last night for dinner using a groupon. Sushi was amazingly good & our waiter was attentive. My two biggest issues was the music & the interior. For a restaurant in the heights I expected to hear some bachata or merengue music but instead was stuck listening to Top 40 playlist of the early 2000s. In other words, music was crap! And the tables are too small for all the amazing food they give you with the rows in between tables being too cramp to walk through. Would definitely come back but please fix the music & don’t try cram people inside a space that can’t hold.

One of my friends was hosting a birthday dinner here and I can definitely say this isn’t the ideal place for a big group. The tables were all too close to one another, which barely left any room to move around or to even go to the bathroom. The restaurant was pretty packed the night I went, so it got busy very quickly. Unfortunately it made the service a bit slow and we waited over 45 minutes for our food. The waiter was very friendly though! On the bright side, the food was amazing! I ordered the Mount Fuji with a side of yucca mash. Best yucca mash I’ve had in my life! Everything was so fulfilling, I couldn’t finish my meal. It was worth my money! Plus the sushi my friends had ordered was very appetizing, but they served very little of it and they were finished in less than 10 minutes. Nevertheless, you should check this place out if you don’t mind loud music, delicious sushi, and upbeat vibes.

The service here was great! All the staff was super friendly and attentive. Check out this place on Thursdays for a great happy hour special! My friends and I went on a Thursday night and had a great time. I got the morir sonando and it was the best Dominican sushi I have ever had. It had shrimp tempura, res guisado, fried cheese, and sweet plantain. Easily the best sushi I have ever had! This place is absolutely worth a visit, I know I will definitely be visiting again soon.

Sushi places should not have a DJ blasting music in your ears while you dine, nor should there be people smoking«hookah». The food is nothing to get excited about, they put random items in the sushi that don’t belong in it. The rice was hard and chewy and the rolls fell apart when lifting them up, clearly they were not made by authentic sushi makers. The place is more concerned with being a club rather then a sushi place. On top of that they are very over priced for what could only be described as «subpar» sushi at best, they add 18% tip automatically for 3 people and then they ask you for more ! Just as a word of friendly advice, if you’re in the area and want good sushi: take the train or an «Über» to the upper west side, this place shulden’t be called a sushi place.

If you’ve ever sat on the beach, with the sun warming your skin and a cold drink in your hand and said«This is great but I wish I couldn’t hear the aggravating sound of those waves lapping against the shore.» than this restaurant is for you! Show up after 10:00, sit really close to the speakers, stay until they close and you’ll never hear again.

So I went to Sushi Mambo yesterday for a girl friend’s late birthday celebration and it was the best worse experience of my life lol. Traffic was horrible to the whole ride there I was just ready to eat and take advantage of those happy hour special drinks. When u arrive well that’s when things went south. The décor is amazing and it’s beautiful inside but when I ordered my first drink and take a sip I find that I’m officially in heaven. Pomegranate martini is a must. When I go to order my second however the waiter tells me just so you know this is not on happy hour special I stare at him confused. Why didn’t you tell me when I sat down which drinks were on special and which drinks weren’t. I’m not cheap, I have money lol but I came here for a deal. So moving forwarded I ordered the drinks he listed were on special. Then comes the food. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll which is described as a roll wrapped in brown rice, with Dominican fried cheese and plantains and all this yummy stuff so I’m excited. However, when it comes out, it’s not brown rice, it’s a brown tortilla wrapped around my roll. Um I’m sorry this roll does not match the description, the waiter tells me oh they ran out of brown rice. Ok! Soooo did it not dawn on you to come and check with me before you made the meal to tell me that you ran out of brown rice and If I would like to perhaps change my order? I’m the one paying and eating, let me make decisions. Ugh I hate tortillas if you can’t tell lol and so I unwrapped the entire roll and ate around it. The food was ok. I wouldn’t jump head over heals. I think I’m just a little bitter about what happened to me lol but I definitely recommend checking it out. I just know personally I don’t plan to go back.

Basically my visit. Got there at 450. food arrived at 625. and the table next to us chenged twice and got their food before us. food service is REALLY slow. The waitress wasn’t really attentive. There were 5 people sitting at our table and she kept bringing 4 of everything. water. utensils. etc. Sushi was okay. I had a volcano roll. I’ve had better. It was unlimited mimosas and half an hour after being there they ran out of champagne. Oh and music is good but entirely TOOOOOOO loud. You have to be really good at reading lips when coming here. This is basically just a hangout spot for people to smoke hookah and drink. I’ll pass. Don’t think I’ll be returning.

Most amazing Sushi and Drinks Ever! My Boyfriend the and I visited Sushi Mambo back in December 2014, when it first opened… But we weren’t very impressed. The food wasn’t great, the drinks weren’t special… it wasn’t a place I’d think to revisit or even recommend. BUT boy did things change! The food was beyond amazing the drinks were exquisite(They were also half price… They have a Mon-Sat 5pm-8pm Happy Hour) the staff was so pleasant and welcoming also very attentive… but most importantly the chef was incredibly talented. Not only was everything delicious, but he was also super creative. His presentation was so fancy and pretty!!! I can’t wait to go back.

I excited to try something new so I ventured uptown to see what this place was all about. The décor and vibe are very modern and cool. The menu was different yet very interesting. The appetizer Mt Fuji was good yet rather small. The sushi rolls were quite diverse(and I mean that in the most Dominican way) but overall they were good.(A bit to much rice if u ask me) The only thing that I was not impressed by were the drinks. Tried the martini and it was waaayyy to sweet. Also tried the mojito and it was simply ok. Our waiter was a very attentive and suggested many dishes. Def a nice place to hang out and try something new. But they need work with those drinks!

Exited to try a new sushi place in the heights! However, it’s another Dominican«fusion» sushi place… womp womp womp… Dominican fusion sushi usually means a lot of pork and plantains yet little flavor. I am sad to say that sushi mambo was no different. However, there were some highlights that I will address: 1. Drinks were strong 2. Wasabi was strong and thank god because these rolls needed help 3. Rice was soft… lol I’m searching here A lot of people like this kind of sushi, but I prefer the traditional stuff. The sushi just tastes completely different when there’s a «fusion» element to it. The food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t «sushi» enough for me. I do recommend the el Dario roll because it comes w jalepeño on top which lends a lot of kick, and the rainbow roll was good enough for a traditional roll. They added an 18% gratuity for 2 people, as only a Dominican restaurant in the heights will do. I just don’t really like that. I probably won’t be back because when I want sushi, I go hard and want the real thing! I am not discouraging you from trying, try because life is too short to not have mozzarella and fried chicken in your sushi, and top it w a plantain while you’re at it.

Interesting concept and beautiful décor! Sadly I woke up with food poisoning and the hookah smoke makes the dinning experience less enjoyable. The service is slow for the space of the restaurant waiters should be more attentive and more confident. Sorry but I won’t be back!

The Food Is Awesome. Staff is really nice and overall interior décor is super cozy and pretty! The only thing that I most complain about and that they really have to fix– is the opening of the door & the temperature in the restaurant is super cold for you to dine and be indoors. in fact– we told our waiter and he admitted aswell that it was cold and that he cranked up the heat to 85!!! The door stays open and doesn’t swing back shut Bc it stays stuck to like the rug beneath so it makes it extra cold in there. I feel sorry for the customers seating up front! They could also use more waiters to service the tables as oppose to having one running around for like 5… Overall– good vibe, great food and nice décor!!!
