It was delicious and restorative just what this traveling plant based gluten free kosher family needed! The extra attention from the owner to my children was extra special.

Service is nice but ya food is not so great. It’s pricey too. We had 5 tapas and it tasted ok. We are vegan so we have tried so much for years and we can’t find these good food. Well, 2 stars for the meatballs, that’s the only thing we thought was good, but the sauce was super salty. Then the Latke was super plain and not tasting like veggie. Anyway, it’s a food critic to taste different places

Just wandered into this place and found a great vegan meal! Food is a bit heavy for vegetarian/vegan, but delicious. The veggie«meatballs» and black olive seitan are particularly good.

I have been going to Sacred Chow for 4 years and truly love the intimate space and the vegan food is always delicious!

It was oddly empty when I first arrived for brunch. So I was a bit worried. However, my experience showed me I had no reason to be. The place is small but still has about 10 tables without it being crowded. I was there by myself and only ordered one thing. Still, the little service I did get was good; the waitress refilled my water before I had to ask. My one hesitation with this place was what initially seems to be high prices. But after seeing the serving I got for the banana bread french toast, the price makes sense. The french toast is as awesome as it sounds with the outside having crispy parcels of banana bombs. The blueberry compote is perfect and not at all too sweet. It also doesn’t soak into the bread so the flavors remain separate if you want them to(which someone like me loves because I can enjoy them separately as well as together). The french toast is easily a meal for two. In fact, if you have it by yourself please bring it home. Otherwise, it will simply be too much sugar for you to handle.

It is so rare that I am as disappointed with a place and give it only one star. Everything about this place was bad. There are so many better(vegan and vegetarian) places around there– YOUCANDOBETTER. The service by this dude who called himself, Van on the phone was TERRIBLE. He was constantly texting on his phone, took forever to clean tables around us despite them being empty for a while and didn’t have any suggestions for people at other tables, except«everything here is good. We had to literally stay on his case to get water on our table. It came 15 minutes after we got in and were seated!!! When our food came and didn’t have the beet noodles that were described on the menu, he said«we’ve been out of beet noodles for months!» The food tasted bad. It did not even look appealing. Am a vegetarian and have been dining out at vegan restaurants for the last few years, and loving them. This by far was the most disappointing! I guess i would have given the food a 2.5÷5 if the device had been chirpy and enthusiastic. But that dude serving at the café seriously needs to have some enthusiasm and love(fake or real) for the place and its food.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Is it small? Yes. Does the food makeup for the fact that you might be a little cramped and have to wait for a seat? YES! A friend introduced me to this place years ago and I’ve never been disappointed since. If you have tried vegan food and don’t think it’s for you, then try this place. It IS possible to cut out the meat and eat like a king. Do it. Do it now.

Never knew vegetarian quesadilla can be so good, I am head-over-heel with every bite. I am not a fan of vegetable at all… eat them only for its nutrition whenever I can. My friend took me to this place upon our meal break from cramming, it surely a mond-changing experience.

Tempeh Reuben Panini was delicious. Strong mustard and sauerkraut flavor. Good texture and good portion for the price. Very modest ambiance. Side potatoes weren’t too special though but it’s a good meal overall. I prefer to go here over By Chloe for a vegetarian/vegan meal.

Sacred Chow over By Chloe any day! A true gem tucked away in the heart of the village. The cutest little restaurant you will ever go to! Inside is kinda of narrow very tastefully decorated with beautiful wall paintings and little bench seating with cushions bringing out little candles at night. The prices are very reasonable for the high quality of food. Everything is seasoned very well and you can tell they but a lot of love and care into what they do. I have gone twice in one week which is something I rarely do. I love their fake meat seitan, as a meat eater I would say their seitan definitely hits the spot for a meat craving. I’ve had both their Thai BBQ Seitan and Roasted Olive Seitan which are both amazing but I slightly prefer the Olive Seitan. I have had the panini and the Power Bowl with Brussel Sprouts, Collard Greens, and Rice. The panini bread is really awesome super fluffy and amazing. I got the panini with salad dressing on the side, their salad dressing is sooooo freaking good. They definitely accommodate to your interests, you can get anything gluten free as well. Cute little place for a quiet date or to have a long nightly chat with friends.

(4 ½ Stars) Aside from the long wait(for the food that is) it’s a cute little busy place. The server was really nice, food was good. I just had the vegan burger that l ordered with home fries. the order arrived & there was salad instead of home fries. I brought it to his attention, he apologized & brought me a side of fries as well(which l appreciated wasn’t even added to my bill since the original order was mistaken) l still kept the salad & was not disappointed at all since l enjoyed the generous salad portion & delicious vinaigrette! I would definitely go back to try other dishes & even desserts.

Sacred Chow is a great place to go if you’re looking for a tasty vegan spot! My friends and I went here for their weekend all-day brunch(11am-4pm brunch on weekends). I got the waffle which was delicious, the apple compote was to die for! My friends got the«banana bread» and a Kale Sandwich… they all raved about it! Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere is very quaint and friendly. Our server was on point with drinks and the food came out within 10 minutes of us ordering. The tables and chairs set up was also super cute… very homey feeling. It’s a little pricey, but you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Would recommend :) Go to the all day brunch on the weekends!

We dined here a few different times, and on our last dinning experience the service was lacking so I left a 15% tip. When I got my credit card bill invoice, I noticed that the young man who was waiting on us that evening added 5% more into it. This is basically stealing in my opinion. It wasn’t enough to refute the charges, but it was enough for me never to return. It’s too bad because it’s a cute space and the food was decent.

Coming here as a non-vegan, I had my doubts. But with the incredible service, reasonable prices, and incredible food, I was amazed. My friend and I split 5 tapas and each got a soup, which was more than enough food. The mushroom soup and the fresh bread were amazing(I really LOVED the bread). We also ordered the kale salad, which was to die for, as well as the sauerkraut, nama gori, meatballs, which I highly recommend. We also shared a beet apple lemonade, which was delicious. A must try for everyone!

My dad and I came across this place when we were walking and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a vegan restaurant. I have numerous food allergies and they were so accommodating for everything. I got the kale Cesar and thought it was absolutely delicious! I also got the home style fries and they were so yummy. The ambiance was very nice and relaxing. The waitress was so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend and it’s pretty affordable in comparison to numerous other restaurants

Sacred Chow is an all-vegan restaurant in NYC that serves unique vegan fare. I have been here a couple of times so far and I can count on it for a good vegan meal. I love their brunch menu! They offer really unique brunch items that are very indulgent. The banana bread french toast is amazing. They practically give you a whole loaf of banana bread. Definitely plan on sharing this one. Belgian waffles were yummy too. The root vegetable latkes are so good. I love that it is pressed in a waffle iron so it has this really nice crunch to it. The nama gori salad is also a must try. For dinner, the tapas option is a great way to try different dishes. Dessert is available to round off the meal, if you are not too full! Enjoy a cuppa vegan latte too. This eatery is really small and can get squeezy inside if busy. The times I have been there, there is only 1 waiter covering the whole restaurant so service can be a little slow, but still acceptable. Overall, really good vegan food with good flavor and quality! Another one of those places I would bring«omnis» to «break» them into trying vegan food.

Three years since I’ve reviewed Sacred Chow? Say it isn’t so! They have a bit of a menu change, though the old favorites remain(that grilled nama gori(tofu)!! Still the absolute best I’ve ever had.) My friend and I tried to make it to brunch, but were about 45 minutes late(it ends at 4pm, which is very fair). No matter, because in reality, all I wanted was the succulent, savory, chewy nama gori. Cue the heart palps! Just writing about it and realizing the fact that I won’t be back in New York til the holidays. We also shared tapas: sunflower lentil pâté(sweet/creamy/delicious), Brussels sprouts(always a favorite here… they are encrusted in cornmeal which makes ‘em even crunchier), raw kale salad(velvety & tasty) and the Indonesian tempeh(divine! almost as incredible as the nama gori. If you are normally on the fence about tempeh, get it at Sacred Chow). I love that they now have power bowls where you can have a protein(need I say which I ordered?), rice and steamed broccoli(you can add kale, too). Although the heros are always what I used to order, all that bread can be overwhelming(c’mon. let me shovel that tofu down on its own!) All of this food and we couldn’t finish it. That didn’t stop me from getting a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie to go, though. Memories of Sacred Chow’s baked goods from years ago… like I still can’t get that orange chocolate chip bread out of my head and they haven’t had it in years. This cookie? Just as good. I mean… pumpkin! This remains one of my favorite vegan places in NYC. It’s a bit more of an affordable and casual option than my other favorite in the area, Blossom.

The décor and vibe of this vegan kosher place reminds me of the 1990s, which was great. The space is a little small but it wasn’t too cramped. There was only one server(whose name was Van if his manager is reading this) but he provided great service and anticipated all of our needs!!! The food was so delicious and clean! The food was packed with so many good quality vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the scramble bowl — he said it was good but I know he was jealous of what I ordered. I had the biscuit po boy, which was –amazing!!! I’m from SC and I can attest that the biscuit was on point. The coconut gravy that came with was just superb. We will definitely be coming back. Also, Although I’m not a student, they offer 15% discount for students.

Vegan & Gluten Free foodies rejoice, you have found your haven. OMG. Banana Bread French Toast w/Blueberries. Saturday & Sunday Brunch Menu. First off– the portion is pretty massive– I really wish I’d had someone to share it with me. It’s one of those meals that could power you through the entire day. Secondly– the french toast batter is so perfectly crunchy on the outside and retains the banana bread moisture on the inside. Third — the blueberry sauce was plentiful and the perfect touch of tartness to the sweet banana bread. While I don’t think this one qualifies as Gluten-Free, there are Gluten-Free waffles on the menu that I intend to try when I come back. And I will come back. Even though they don’t list iced coffee drinks on the menu, when asked if they could prepare an iced almond milk latte, they delivered beautifully. This is a seriously under-rated foodie spot, and it’s purely a bonus that they cater to special diets.

I am nuts for going to two vegetarian places for two meals in a row, especially after the fiasco that was Quintessence, but perhaps because anything had to be better or because I find myself still hoping that a really good, semi-reasonably priced vegetarian place exists on this island, I found Sacred Chow to be promising. … though it’s also probably because I have an unwavering, unequivocal love of broccoli and the Big Scramble Bowl was 80% broccoli and 20% actual scrambled tofu. The tofu was eerily reminiscent of finely whisked scrambled eggs, right down to that comforting eggy color. I wasn’t a huge fan of the shredded beets(or really, beets in general). Portion size was generous, because the broccoli took up so much surface area. Sangria was delicious but it doesn’t count to put half a handful of chopped apples at the top of the sangria pitcher. I’ll have to try the banana pound cake French toast and the root latkes.

While the staff was very kind and helpful, while the atmosphere was sweet, I am not a fan of the food. If it wasn’t for the lentil pâté, I would have given 3 stars. I guess if you are a fan of wheat gluten and tofu products you would appreciate the menu, I am really just not one of the faux meat followers. We started with a shared German«sausage» plate– I hated it. The texture was off putting and it tasted like cardboard– German cardboard. My husband loved it and in all fairness he is one who loves wheat gluten. We then had seitan honey BBQ burrito in a brown rice wrap. Again, seitan galore, hated it too, BBQ flavored cardboard. However, the wrap was really yummy. The homemade sautéed potatoes were on point –hard to miss that! Finally, we tried the 3-taco plate. Shouldn’t be called taco, it’s just 3 different mush you choose and it’s presented open faced on a bed of lettuce. Had the meatballs, the marinara sauce was great but the meatballs were tasteless. Then we had the weird frozen and thawed tofu in a mustard sauce, still not sure how I feel about that one. And finally, the redeemer of the menu, my favorite thing I had in the place and during the week was the lentil pâté! Totally stand on its own, topped with sunflower seeds, it was delicious to dip veggies in it! Overall, if you aren’t a flesh eater and dig the faux-meat items, I am sure you’ll appreciate this place and its vibe. I am really just not into different flavored and textured cardboards to go back(unless it’s about the lentil pâté!!)
