I would give it 5 negative Stars if i could. rude unprofessional management, thieves, staff included(they take their own tips) don’t leave $$ or anything laying around if you go, just know it’s a neighborhood bar. if they don’t know you, you WILL be mistreated and before long you will feel uncomfortable to the point that you’d even leave your drink just to get out of there. the tattooed witchy looking owner with greasy black hair is a real nasty person, rude nasty n just a down right bitch! much better places just steps away

Okay so this is my first Unilocal review so here it goes. I have never had an experience so bad in a NYC bar that I made my first review. Tonight(today) is my birthday and I brought 30 or so people to the bar to celebrate. I knew they were busy Saturday’s, and that they charged $ 2 a song but was excited anyway. Nearly everyone in my party paid for a song or two upon arrival(between 9:30pm-10:00pm), and waited patiently ordering round after round. We left at almost one with not ONE person I was with having sang. When we asked the bartender why, a party of 30 who had been in for three hours hadn’t sung he replied«I’ve been here since four». I had fun because my friends are great, but this bar experience was my worst in my 8 years in New York. Disrespectful to people just out to have a good time. I would not go again, I would not recommend it. I would go so far as to say any other bar(I’m talking 13 step here folks) would be better. Good luck out there good people– avoid this place! You deserve better.

My friends aren’t gonna believe this. Riegelman’s writing a review of Planet Rose?! What’s the world coming to? See, I don’t sing. I don’t dance either. No, I’m not a deaf mute. I’m just not a Karaōke’r. But that hasn’t stopped me from dropping by on occasion to say hi to my buddy Steve aka ‘Durango’ who works at the place. He’s a true East Villager, growing up and living there far before it became cool. He’s a big film 35 mm film buff. I challenge you to stump him on any questions from 70s or 80s cinema. He knows his stuff, and even runs a group called Mondo Culto on Meetup. Oh, and he has a monthly public access cable show on MNN that’s, well, ‘interesting’… But enough about Durango. Back to the Rose. Many if not most of the crazy kats my girlfriend and I hang out with usually end up at some point during the night hanging at Planet Rose. It’s like a second home to them. That’s the feel of the place. Very cozy and friendly, it welcomes old friends and makes it easy to make new ones too, even if you’re voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I like the zebra-print suede couches and pink strobe lights, definitely my kinda décor! I’ve heard that one of the bartenders, Missy, has a signature ‘flaming shot’ she likes to make called ‘Missy Likes to Set Things on Fire’ that’s pretty hot, although I haven’t yet had the pleasure. As a non-singer I’ve actually been in several different karaōke bars(go figure), and Planet Rose by far is the friendliest and most laid back place I’ve been to. I think it’s free to sing before 8:00pm and that they charge $ 2 per song afterwards, but I might be wrong. Either way it’s a lot cheaper to get your groove on than other places. It’s also in the heart of the East Village, less than a 10 minute walk from the L. They have a daily 2-for-1 happy hour and even if you miss it the drinks are pretty reasonable. If you’re a singer, or even if you’re not, you’ll enjoy checking out this fun spot. Tell’em Riegelman sent you!

I would never come back here, not a fun place for karaōke at all. The place is a dive, the bartenders are very rude, the regular patrons act like a**holes, they get upset if you sing one of «their songs» and want to lecture you on the«proper etiquette of karaōke», if I’m paying $ 2 for a song I can sing any song I want! There are plenty of other places to go in the city that are clean, have friendly staff, good service and are fun!

Before 8pm: Okay, yes, I’ve been there before 8pm. Boozy brunch turned East Village wandering turned karaōke afternoon? Yes x100. Very cheap drinks before 8pm, not a lot of people(BYOGroup), and no $ needed to get involved with a ton of songs. The massive zebra print couches are awesome, as are the multiple TVs with the words on screen. After 8pm: [will report back when I go to karaōke like a normal person after 11pm] It’s a little divey, in that the beer boxes are stacked 7ft high in front of the bar/near the bathroom, but beyond that, it’s a blast.

I love Planet Rose! Why bother with expensive karaōke places that charge you per song or put you in a private room! This place rocks

I’ve been here a few time because I’ve got a few friends in the neighborhood, I guess I’ve been a little too tipsy to realize the disgusting condition of this place… Last night in one of the bathrooms there must have been a dozen garbage bags piled up in the corner And the air was thick with flies, I’ve been in third world countries with cleaner establishments. There is no way anything could be actually clean with the amount of insects just in the bathroom alone, it honestly looked like a bomb had gone off. The two female bar tenders were non existent, along the other guy who looks like Napoleon dynamite they might as well have had no one working behind the bar. The only thing keeping this place open is karaōke and ignorant customers. This place literally needs to clean up its act

This is such a fun karaōke venue. It’s like a mix between room karaōke and stage karaōke. Most of the space is open, though there is one private room if singing with strangers isn’t your thing. It’s furnished with plush zebra-striped couches. It wasn’t too crowded when I was there(Sunday afternoon), so we never had to wait long for a song. The drinks are cheap– pairs very well with karaōke. The only downside is the karaōke system. They have an app that allows you to search for songs without flipping through the book, which is awesome. However, most of the songs that I found through the app were not found in the system. I think this may be a temporary problem as the bartender said they had just added a bunch of songs and were waiting on something or other for them to be put in.

This place is a waste of time. There are so many better places to go. The staff are rude & make the whole thing no fun. I’ve been doing karaōke in NYC for years. I’ll never waste my time & money here again.

I don’t want to come across mean. Let’s just get that out the way. Okay. Good. Now. My review is only about karaōke night. I’ve been to karaōke at other bars, specifically one bar in particular that leaves this place looking pale by comparison. For starter/, they charge you to sing a song. $ 2 at that. I’ve never heard of charging someone to sing before but this is apparently standard Saturday practice here. So already strike against it. Then, let’s factor in the fact that the entire places smells like the inside of the bathroom. Well, it’s just ending well. Oh, and on the topic of the bathroom, understand that no matter how long the line is, the bartender will skip you should he need to go before you can finally get close. Then add in the fact that my friend got me a drink that I really didn’t want. Not to mention, wasn’t very good. I tried to give it back and they wanted to charge me. The bartender seemed baffled that no one wanted his very bad drink. Eventually I was able to trade off with someone else but it just seemed totally unnecessary in the face of all of that. Which is essentially my problem with this bar overall. There are better places than this. Hell, mostly ever Thursday or Friday, you can find much better places anywhere else. Literally anywhere.

Wandered in not knowing what to expect. Had a blast. Great crowd. Bartenders were friendly and service was on point. Prices were reasonable. This place had me singing. I’ll be back.

What happened to this place? It’s always felt a little dingy and campy, but it was fun and the bartenders were cool and funny(and most of them were phenomenal singers, as well.) Now, the majority of the bartenders don’t give a flying ****, you practically have to stand on the bar to get their attention and order a drink. They’re too busy playing with their phones and chatting up one or two people at the end of the bar. I used to go all the time — like once a week — but no longer.

I’m a bit torn on Planet Rose. On one hand it’s one of the best karaōke bars ever, and on the other it’s really not. I’ll explain: * Why it’s great: you know those karaōke types that take the art form waaaaay too seriously? They conduct themselves like Clive Owen is sitting somewhere in the bar with a giant check waiting to hand out signing bonuses and a spot on the RCA roster after a pitch perfect version of Rolling In The Deep? Yeah, you won’t really find those singers at Planet Rose. It’s a dive bar that happens to have karaōke and generally speaking, people don’t take themselves too seriously. Being that most of the songs I sing are ironic interpretations of powerful divas intended to be taken with a grain of salt, this is right up my alley. * Why it’s not so great: I’m the furthest from a follower of Eastern philosophies as you’ll find, but there’s just something off with the feng shui here. I feel like I’m always in the way no matter where I am in the bar. Also, the sound is turned down so low, the only way to really hear your own voice is to scream quite loudly into the microphone. Being that I’m an amateur singer performing on an amateur platform, it always results in me losing my voice for the next several days in a row. It’s an issue I’ve never encountered in other bars if its kind. Perhaps I should just learn to sing from my diaphragm, but trying too hard takes the fun out of karaōke as far as I’m concerned. In the end, I’ve been several times and I’ll likely return several times in the future as well. The drinks are priced fairly and it’s a laid back hang… but if you take your cover songs seriously, you’ll probably be disappointed.

I’m not a big drinker, but any place with $ 4 mix drink happy hours is a place for me! Came here recently when a friend of a friend invited me to a gathering. Said friend wasn’t there, so I sat at the bar. A true introvert, I decided to get a drink to wind down… and what, free songs until 10? Hand me the book. The biggest test of how great a karaōke bar is is based on how good their song books are. I must say they had my favorites and then some. I love that you can sing at the bar or sing on the wraparound couches just around the corner. There are screens everywhere and you don’t have to stand if you don’t want to. As the night progressed(and got hazy) the place filled up, so it was like one big party full of karoake loving people. I’ll be back, especially knowing that this is across the street from Fat Buddah, my other haunt!

A great karaōke bar in the E. Village. Keeping it classy with zebra-print suede couches and some pink strobe lights, it’s a legit karaōke spot guaranteed for good times. A group of 10 of us came here this past Saturday night after dining @ Nai Tapas for a girl friend’s birthday. Birthday girl looooves karaōke! So we ventured here for some singing tunes. We arrived at around 9pm on a Saturday night — and I highly recommend coming at this time if you want to guarantee some couch space. The place started filling up quickly afterwards. The bar has several rooms so numerous groups could come in and enjoy their own space. This karaōke bar is so interactive — which is so cool. Because there is no stage for singing, it felt like one huge sing-a-long at times!!! Each song request is $ 2; you select your song of choice from a hefty book of songs and you write your selection on a classy sticky-note. Love it! You hand it to the karaōke jams-manager and he calls your name and puts the song on the wide screen tv’s in each of the bar rooms when it’s your turn. Because there is no stage, you can sing from any part of the karaōke bar — sitting, standing, whatevs — and if you choose a popular tune that’s guaranteed to be known by the crowd, you better believe everyone will be singing along with you! When the song selection came on for«Hey-Ya» by Outkast, every person in the room was singing! Pretty cool thing to see :) Beers were fairly priced — I ordered a few Blue Moon bottles for $ 6 /each. Bartenders were nice and very attentive, and laid back. Great experience for karaōke singing in NYC! Perhaps not a place you stay at all night, but definitely fun times for groups :)

I’m only giving it 4 stars bc of the fun I have when I come here. The place itself is probably a 1 star. It smells like a dirty locker room. I usually run into a couple of flies in the bathroom just hanging around. Oh and those zebra couches… ugh. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to use a black light on those things! However, this is a karaōke bar right? So if you’re the type of person who’s not extra picky and have the ability to let loose and have some fun, you’ll more than likely have a great time here. I never make the sober decision to come here, EVER. It’s usually after a night of drinking and the brilliant thought comes to my head and I blurt out«I want to sing!!!» Usually whoever I’m with follows and before you know it they are singing their favorite song in front of a crowd of inebriated people who happily sing along. Planet Rose is a happy place :) Things to know: 1. Planet Rose does not have private rooms. This is an open area, almost like being in someone’s living room. The experience is much more enjoyable in my opinion. Almost forces you to mingle with everyone there. 2. There is no stage. 3. It is free to sing before 10pm. I believe they charge like $ 2 per song after that time. 4. You will probably have a lot of fun :) 5. I love the staff here. They are fun and sing too. Super friendly and chill. I’ve been here so many times now that I lost count. I’m sure I will come back here many more to sing my favorite No Doubt song. Planet Rose I love the memories you’ve brought, but for God’s sake I think it’s time to invest in new couches and maybe some febreze :|
