This is one of those places when you step inside you kinda get nervous, but when the food hits the plate and you taste it, you know, you’re in for a treat. I tried the tacos with chicken, beef, and fish. They were superb. Especially the fish one.

One of the best authentic Mexican places in NY. It’s not fancy but it is amazing. You will not be disappointed.

Best. Fish. Tacos. If the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere and unique charm of a once bakery turned Korean/Mexican restaurant does not attract you to this prime lunch spot, then the fish tacos served definitely should. When my office moved locations, this was the first lunch spot I explored. Since then, New York Bakery has become a viral sensation throughout my office with coworkers regularly scheduling fish taco runs. This just in my Mexican loving friends — tacos are no longer reserved just for Tuesday.

Best tacos I’ve ever had. The label«bakery» seems misleading because it seems they only serve some pre-packed buns on a small shelf to the side. What they really have are mouth watering Mexican-Korean fusion entrees. The taco shells have the perfect thickness so they’re not dry and doughy but still strong enough to hold all the delicious content. The bulgogi tacos were my favorite.

This place is legit! I’ve always walked past this place thinking it was just a deli, but finally decided to stop by after seeing the great Unilocal reviews. It’s a tiny hole in the wall with a constant stream of customers so it’s best to just get takeout if you don’t have time to wait for a seat. They give you 3 tacos per order and it’s much bigger and better compared to places like Mexicue. You even have the option to get your tortilla crispy, like a chalupa, which is so good. Definitely recommend this place!

I’ve been stopping here for tacos for some time. Today I finally tried the noodle soup with chicken. Got back to the office, took off the lid and — «Wooow. That’s… beautiful.» My colleagues all laughed at my earnest, reverential tone. But what I was looking at – a gorgeous spicy red soup with bits of perfectly cooked egg and succulent dark chicken meat — really was just too damn pretty. Eating it was even better than looking at it – it was filling and delicious. I’m looking forward to colder weather so I can warm myself with this giant styrofoam cup o’ love.

I went here for the first time last Wednesday and have returned twice since. So delicious, and a great value for lunch in the area. So far I’ve tried the mole($ 8), bulgogi tacos($ 9.50), and fish tacos($ 8). The menu is huge and a good part of it changes daily, so I plan on coming back and trying everything ever. The shop is staffed by a Korean man who speaks 3 different languages and carries the whole front(taking orders, bagging, answering phones, and handling money, sometimes all at once) and someone in the back who prepares the food. They’re such pros, I’m in awe at how seamlessly they handle this busy joint. Hint, if you’re starving and have a huge appetite, one order of tacos may not be enough. So get everything else as well.

I work around here and I think life is too short not to eat something different every day. That said, I would love to eat the fish tacos that I ate today, again tomorrow. I made my friends take a bite at work and they all agreed, they were really good, simple yet delicious.

Here’s why this gets five stars. Around a random corner in New York a couple blocks from Penn Station. Never would have found it if it weren’t on Unilocal.Up some metal stairs, tiny room and a counter with a few stools by the window. $ 7.50 for three meaty tacos with cilantro, lime, and a bit of avocado and green and red sauce on the side. Just, absolutely, exactly what I was looking for in the 45 minutes before my train. Might have to come back, just hopefully with a lighter suitcase next time…

Searching for tacos around work and Unilocal had this with great ratings. It did look a little sketchy from the outside and it’s pretty small when you walk in but everyone was really nice. I was looking at the menu all confused because it wasn’t organized well, a lot of covered up prices and writing. I saw on Unilocal that the fish tacos were $ 7-$ 7.50 and when i went the menu said tacos were $ 9.50 but when i paid it was $ 8.50 for beef. Super confusing! Also i thought the tacos were pretty expensive for small things that came with only one tortilla. I loved that there was a lime for every taco and there was a avocado slice on each but i’ve had the same tasting thing for a cheaper price across from my job. At least I came to try them but too bad I won’t be stopping by again.

I never review anything(this might be my first) but this place is so uniquely New York I think it deserves it. No, it’s not a bakery. Yes, it’s a Mexican food establishment run by Koreans. Here’s the bottom line: It’s damn tasty. And it’s ridiculously cheap. Three decent sized chicken tacos, with a mole sauce that’s sweet and still has a little kick, all for $ 7.50. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to get lunch in midtown Manhattan, but that my friends is a steal. No frills, takeout, I’ll definitely be coming back here.

Great tacos and authentic Korean! Very ‘home’ style food, and great prices. The tacos here are really good, I recommend the fish tacos as the fish taste very fresh. They come with an assortment of veggies, and if you like Korean they have good ramen. Highly recommend as the prices are easy on the wallet and the service is friendly. A hidden gem!

These are the best tacos I have ever had in the U.S. !! Each order is 3 tacos with two tortillas each and with salsa. The Korean owner is very nice and speaks fluent Spanish with a Mexican accent. The place is small but oh so so so good! They have Mexican sodas(Jumex, Boing, Cidral) and juices and of course the basics like coke and sprite. They have many options, only thing I wish they would stay open for longer! I will be going back very soon :)

This is my favorite place to eat lunch. The fish is superb and the mole sauce is unbelievable! Adding to the great food that they serve here the owner is just so nice, always there with a smile that makes you want come back again. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to eat great mexican food in the area.

I only had the pleasure of going here once. Note, everything I will say is positive, but be aware that this restaurant is more suited for takeout than eating in. Please do not be deferred by the nearly nonexistent location and unprofessional environment in less typical work hours. The man working the register was amicable and punctual. When asked for recommendations, he advised the two color enchiladas. And so this was what I consumed. A fairly large and inexpensive meal that’s almost confusingly clear deliciousness is incontrovertible. Both the red and green sauce enchiladas tasted fantastic. The intertwining tapestry of classic Mexican recipes and Korean nuances in spice and flavor may be a shock to your palette initially. But in the end, or likely a few seconds after your first bite, you’ll realize the marriage of east and west was explicitly successful. If I ever have a chance to go back, I’ll have to try one of their Quesadillas, damn.

Came across this place on Unilocal and noted it’s near perfect 5 star rating. Went for lunch and wanted tacos but was swayed and got the chicken platter with rice and beans for $ 7. The Korean owner, who was super friendly, said they had a really good fried chicken and asked if I wanted that. I did! It included a few corn tortillas to make tacos with. The chicken was like katsu style with REALLY good flavor in the coating, idk what it was but it was damn tasty. Rice and beans weren’t anything special but I still liked everything together. It’s so close to me so I’ll definitely be going back to try other things.

If you ever on the mood of tasty and unpretentious mexican food, stop by at this tiny wall in the hole little eatery … No frills, no life changing experience, nothing out of the ordinary but it’s definitely a nice experience … Service is fast, courteous, the Korean man taking the order speaks a rather funny Spanish that it’s delightfully kitchsy, the food was pretty good; a green spicy tomatillo salsa paired with a bistec torta and with a tamarind jarrito :) I totally recommend this place

New York Bakery? My girlfriend heard about it on Unilocal. What is this place? A Bakery that is NOT a bakery but some of THEEBEST Mexican food… Made by a charmingly proud Korean man and his wife! Story goes that the owner and his wife’s bakery wasn’t doing that well in the location it is at. The owner thought«What can I do to have a business that will be successful?». One day, a(Mexican) lady comes in and says«I can cook»… and so she does. One day… three customers… next week. more customers… and so on and so on until he has built this pretty booming business. Woman goes back to Mexico, but not before teaching his adorable wife to cook the best Mexican I have tasted. Fish Tacos are NOT to be missed. Their salsa verde is SPECTACULAR. We had Chicken, Pork and Beef Tacos and all were excellent and fresh! Potato Tacos were excellent as well. Everything is homemade, fresh and served up with immense pride. The Owner was gracious and chatty and he even indulged me by letting me take a photo with him and his wife! I wish them all the very best! They were such an inspiration. The food is KING. We hope to hit this place every time we come to New York city.
