I am not sure if my review could be read as 100% accurate, as I’ve only had their delivery and I get the same thing each time. These menu items are always incredible: Escargot: in a fabulous pesto sauce with fresh bread. Steak frites: cooked perfectly. Tender, delicious, amazing sauce. Crème brûlée: Done extremely well– thick, made on premis(none of that frozen pre-made garbage), with specs of vanilla bean. I’m forced to knock this place from 5 stars to 4 due to a few things: 1. I’ve had limited exposure to the menu items 2. I’ve never dined ‘in house’ and 3. Although the quality of the food is great, it’s still a bit on the pricey side.

Stopped by here for dinner tonight, and unfortunately it is closed. Doors were locked with paper on the windows. I called the restaurant and their phone has been disconnected. Too bad…

We were supposed to go to an amazing restaurant next door, but the wait was too long and we were way too hungry, instead we went to Monparnasse. I’ve orderd seabass, and instead they’ve served me tiliapia at sea bass price. Sea bass is really hard to confuse with any other fish, and when I’ve asked them about the fish they said that, «this sea bass if farm raised so maybe it looks and tastes a bit more like tilipia.» I would recommend this place, as it was too expense and the quality does not live up to the prices.

My friend and I have dinner here every couple of months and it’s always a good experience. Great steak frites… good selection of not super expensive wines by the glass, friendly service. All the things you’d look for in a neighborhood bistro.

Went here on a business lunch midweek early(noonish) end of the summer, and was surprised how busy they were. We were seated quickly and given menus but waited an extremely long time for orders to be taken. My co-worker ordered a drink which was forgotten. The waitress missed a water glass and sprayed the table with ice cold water. The food itself was good: had the crab cake app, very tasty — and the crispy calamari salad, which was light but filling and with a surprisingly good and slightly different(salty/sweet/spicy) vinagarette. The bill also took quite awhile to come, as did the receipt after. All in all, food = thumbs up, service = thumbs down. The waitress was obviously new, so I would try again to see if the service improves. As a side note, the cheese plate was slightly disappointing to all fromage conneisseurs. Also, did not have dessert(no time) but they all looked good!

Fine, comfortable, and occasionally special. We’ve eaten here a dozen times, usually because of its convenience and the fact we can count on a consistent meal at a reasonable price. They’ll also fix dishes the way you want them, ie, pan fried skate wing lightly buttered on a day’s notice. But there’s nothing here to get excited about, illustrated by the fact it’s never busy. Decent décor, good service, just nothing worth remembering comes out of the kitchen.

Maybe my standards have gone up or I’m just going through a spell of disappointments, but Montparnasse has just dived into a place to avoid for me after last night’s dinner. As always, the warm bread with the butter is a nice touch, but then it kind of just goes downhill from there. The crabcake was great, but the curry sauce that it came with was just strange. I used to love the coq au vin here, but the hen was way overcooked to the point where it was tough and the rest of the ingredients just seemed like they tossed them on the plate as an afterthought. My friend liked the ratatouille, but the sauteed calamari seemed like it was sub-par. Add completely absent service to that and you get a restaurant that I won’t be going back to… it’s sad to see a place go downhill, but I think this is a place that won’t see me back. Consistently inconsistent …

I thought the pre-fix Theatre menu had some great choices and the food was okay. I ordered the steak frites as my main course and had the salad for starters topped off with the passionfruit sorbet for dessert which was quite tasty. The staff here is very attentive and friendly, the food was just okay though. I probably won’t be back as there is better French fare to be had.

Another corporate dinner here … about 50 guests and maybe a few not with my party. There was a 1-hour open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres. I didn’t have a chance to taste the hors d’oeuvres prior to the event, so I was crossing my fingers that everything tasted okay — and it did [except for chicken lollipops that were incredibly yuck]. For dinner, there were a few options: Coq au Vin, Steak Frites, Veg Risotto and Salmon Lentil. All of the entres received positive remarks, except for the Salmon where the consensus was it was slightly overcooked/bland/boring. Also the Steak Frites were frighteningly rare for a few people [I had the Steak and I liked it just fine] Desserts were the most talked about, specifically the Chocolate Gâteau; very rich, very chocolaty. The staff was fine and overall everything went well. Even though everyone really enjoyed dinner, I am unsure if I would personally return, as there are several similar and perhaps better restaurants like Montparnasse throughout the city.

Yay for service. Meh for food. Yay for cheapo prix-fixe menu. Also, note to self: must stay away from most 2003 mid-range Burgundies. No is bueno no mas.

Good place if you’re in the area. We played tourists and stayed at the pod hotel next door, and went to dinner here. The roasted chicken and coq au vin were tasty, as were the mussels. The place is pretty uninspired, but we sat in one of those great curved booths, and the service was attentive. Considering the number of Happy New Year exchanges between staff and diners, this place appears to be a local spot.

Delicious brunch filled with traditional dishes served up with amazingly fresh bread. The french onion soup is a must with any meal — complemented perfectly with gruyère. What surprised me most was the expansiveness of the menu. They had everything from typical bar food(of better quality than your local pub) to much more upscale frenchy like dishes. Come for a flight and some food and expect beautifully average service with yummy, if not totally interesting/inspired, choices on the menu. 3.5 stars, to be exact.

Went with the prix fixe for lunch thinking it’d be fairly fast. Bad choice — next time I’ll get steak tartare. Service was so slow we skipped the dessert. Food was pretty good but didn’t make up for the painfully long wait. If ever I have three hours to kill in the middle of my workday and am not feeling like anything else I’ll give them another shot.

Montparnasse is a solid restaurant with nothing against it, but nothing really going for it. The food is somewhat uninspired, but edible. The mussel appetizer was flavorful, but there was a bad mussel for every ten or so. My parpadelle with duck(I’ve been obsessed with parpadelle ever since eating it at Il Corallo Trattoria) was so-so, my mother’s duck was a tad tough, but my father’s sea bass was tasty and fresh. The highlight for me was the dessert; but when can you go wrong with molten chocolate gâteau? The bill came to about 100 $ for three people. Service was fine. I wouldn’t be against going here again, but it’s definitely not on my list of top places.

I bemoan the fact that I had a huge breakfast before coming here for lunch. I really really wanted to have the Wild Mushroom Ravioli with white truffle oil & shaved aged parmesan but I knew it was going to be on the heavier side so I decided to get the Arugula Salad with shaved fennel, apples, toasted goat cheese & sherry vinaigrette. The three of us shared an order of fries, which was just, you know, fries. nothing special about it. The arugula salad was pretty good though. I still have no idea what a fennel is but it was good. I told my friend to go and have the wild mushroom ravioli for me and to take lots of pictures and describe how it tastes like since i wont be there for a long long time. =( Quick seating, good service, lots of power lunching biz people there at lunch. *edit* I would like to add that the bread here is superb. It was warm and toasty — the rustic kind and probably one of the best table bread ever.

A friend and I sat at the bar on a Saturday night before heading out on the town — we shared some tapas and had some great rose… Tapas was *eh.” The shrimp beginets were not much more than fried shrimp from a chinese food place and the chicken croquettes tasted a little weird and missed the«croquette» part altogether… Wine selection was nice though, and they offer flights for those of you who want to try a few all at once. Service was good at the bar and the atmosphere was neighborhoody and friendly enough — I’d go again.

Trains were running slow last night so we decided to take a walk and get dinner – after getting brushed off by the Dos Caminos hostess(she was too busy tending to a loud, drunk, after-work crowd), we wandered into Montparnasse and were not disappointed. I’ll begin with the best part — their dessert. We had a lemon tart, with baby bananas, a la mode. We were already full, but one of the servers came around to show us their special and we couldn’t resist. The crust was perfect, and even my bf(who has the anti-sweet tooth) devoured half the tart AND the ice cream. Other highlights — their roasted duck breast with portobello and apricot confit was very good, and I saw a nearby couple sharing a plate of steamed mussels that looked yummy. They also have your standard steak frites and what looked like decent burgers. It’s not the best value, but seating was comfortable, and the service was perfectly pleasant.

I went to Montparnasse for the first time last Valentine’s day with my ex… *has it been a year already, sigh* — The place is pushing-to-be-kosher for a French restaurant(but it really does achieve the nostalgic sartrerian 30ish u expect from such a name); the wait is not bad without a reservation(10 min), but the food is good, portions r appropiate,(not too much, but enough for you to be content) I like the Seared Black Angus sirloin with french fries, and you might also like the homemade ice cream. In any rate, a non-jaded place for a cozy date, with well rounded prices and un-assuming staff. I’ll give it three stars.

Well, it is a restaurant so I will rate it based on its food and service. Is it the most original décor in the world, hell no, but they have very good food ranging from simple bar food to their entrees. The wine list is good too – a nice range of moderate to more expensive(but not crazy) wines. It’s also great fun to sit at the bar and hang out which I tend to do on a regular basis.
