Went here on a slow weekday afternoon thinking that it’d be a nice spot for decent food. We were seated promptly as the place was nearly empty. After about 10 mins or so we finally got water and another 5 mins or so thereafter our waiter finally came to take our order. We order the burger, medium rare, and the filet mignon sandwich. Our entrees arrived and upon first impression we were not impressed. The burger looked like a sad pile of dried meat whereas the filet mignon fared no better. The burger was cooked to a medium and too dry and lacking any flavor. Even trying to mask it with ketchup proved to no avail. The filet mignon sandwich was too chewy and not remarkable. An $ 18 burger that was very disappointing. I should have gone to Shake Shack instead. The service was really disappointing and snotty. Took an exorbitant amount of time for everything. Drinks took too long to arrive and the table bread came arrived after our entrees. The waiter was too busy schmoozing with an elderly couple next to us to pay attention to us. Just because we were a younger looking couple doesn’t mean that we deserve any less service. TL/DR Service: atrocious Food: skip any meat dishes Conclusion: go elsewhere

Went here on Saturday with my parents, host was very outgoing/friendly and sat us right away. Had lobster bisque and it was delicious although lacking for a bit of meat. Had the french toast and it was delicious. Coffee comes out in french presses which was a great touch, but not a fan of the coffee specifically. Also had an espresso, and it lacked(im a huge critic because I am in the coffee industry). All in all a good experience, and I will definately go back.

Went for lunch and everyone was pleased. It was crowded and lots of people watching here. Not a fan of wooden chairs and the cold atmosphere but it is a pub type place with lots of Belgian beers. Pricey for lunch too.

I was looking for a nice little place to eat while visiting NYC on business and my coworkers suggested I check this place out. I’m so glad I did! It really felt like I was in a different country at a little corner café. Even though I was sitting outside, it didn’t feel like I was in New York. And that was great! Food was all amazing. I ordered the steak and fries since this was one of my favorite dishes on my travels to France. They take this staple meal and make it their own with a wonderful herb spread. It was just delicious! Honestly, this place transported me not only out of the city, but out of the country. I had to visit the South of France all the time at my old job and with the exception of the yellow cabs zipping by outside and people speaking English, it felt like I was back there while I enjoyed my meal. This place is just perfect.

I was really craving some seafood, especially mussels. Our waitress was very nice but hovered over us until we raised our heads instead of walking up and speaking to us. I requested to not have the potatoes on my tuna entrée and if possible add extra veggies. Although the waitress was polite she very bluntly said no. She didn’t even ask the chef. I was a little taken aback. Then we received our mussels and I was ready to dunk the bread into the broth but it was all the way on the bottom so I asked the waitress for some extra broth. Again she says no without asking the kitchen. I wasn’t thrilled with anything I received. Nothing terrible but I won’t be coming back. I do not think either request was life changing. Either the waitress doesn’t want to ask the kitchen or the chef is very unwilling to assist its customers.

Came in for lunch and ordered mussels and two salads. 40 minutes for the mussels, salads never showed up after another 30 minutes. Paid for mussels and left. Salads are not hard.

Service was non existent here when i went here last week on a Wednesday. They were pretty busy but still, i wanted to order more food and the waitress was always never to be found. Also, the Mushroom toast which was usually good was very bland as were the mussels. My bro said his beef dish was too chewy while my bf said that he has eaten better. I wanted to try it because i had a good experience with the mushroom toast and the french onion soup but the second time, everything i ate was just bland and i was sorely disappointed.

Love Mark’t! Love just sitting at the bar chatting with the bartenders about life and enjoying their many delectable bar bites — Honey Sriracha Wings anyone? Such a great atmosphere– a Belgian would be proud. Had Mom meet me here too before a Broadway show and we couldn’t get enough of the steamed Cod. Just fabulous.

The food was really very good, which is the only thing that saved this from a 1 star rating. I went on Friday night. The host was rude when he asked how many for dinner and did I call? Not sure why I would have needed to call when half the tables in the back were empty. And sure, I was waiting for a friend to join, but I was seated for 5 whole minutes and no one came over to me. I actually had to flag the waiter down to get water! It was another 5 minutes before I had to flag him down again for more water and to ask if it would be ok if I ordered a cocktail. This terrible service combined with the very large, thankfully dead cockroach in the bathroom, means I won’t be returning any time soon.

I came here with a friend for lunch. Cute place… Spacious and roomy inside yet still cozy and intimate feeling. I decided on the burger and Belgian fries. The waitress asked if I wanted cheese with my burger, which I agreed to but when I asked what type of cheese she only mentioned one: Gruyère. Now, I like Gruyère but I found it strange that an entire restaurant only has one type of cheese to offer. My burger came cooked the way I asked for, as well as the cheese, which was just one thin slice. The burger also came with onion, tomato and lettuce. It tasted okay– just average to me. The meat wasn’t particularly flavorful, but it wasn’t bland either. I did like the Belgian fries though– There was a lot of it and it was crispy and yummy. Overall, I think the meal was overpriced. I paid $ 25 for what was essentially a mediocre burger and french fries.(Burger — $ 18 + Cheese — $ 1.50 + Tax/Tip). I barely want to pay $ 25 for an amazing burger and fries combo, so this was a disappointment. The service was decent though. I liked the waitress, even though there was a bit of confusion… Another waiter who apparently wanted to serve us after the waitress took our order. Also, our cups were always filled with water.

Nice environment It’s low key enough that you feel intimate, but populated enough that you don’t feel isolated I’d come here for drinks after a date

I heard good things about this restaurant from my friends so we went to try it out. I was looking forward to the mussels in white wine sauce. The bad: It took over an hour for the mussels to be served, the restaurant was not even packed. The mussels were terrible, I could cook better. No flavor, onions inside made it excessively watery, many mussels were dead and had their shells closed. We also ordered beef stew which was the opposite of the mussels. Excessive flavor to the point where you could literally eat a handful of bread with a small dip of the stew. Chefs choice oysters: They used to serve 15 oysters and I’m pretty sure it even says so on the menu because my friends counted and were wondering why there were only 12. We asked the waiter and be confirmed that they used to serve 15 but changed to 12. Oysters were ok, nothing special. Patte: Worst patte ever, stale, dry and tasteless. The best part of this dish is the dills they serve with the patte. Absolutely horrible. The good: Dame Blanche — vanilla ice cream with warm chocolate syrup. This was amazing. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I’d like to think that the main chefs were off or it was a bad Monday but we went around 7PM prime time. Extremely disappointed. I’ll never forget this restaurant or experience(one hour waiting for mussels). Also the waiter had no life, not necessarily rude but he was zombie-like with an «I don’t care about you or this job» attitude.

So I was slightly hungover but for the most part this place was good. Apparently they’re very strict with reservation times so be aware of that. I ordered the eggs benedict which were good not great. I think the hashbrown was what I enjoyed the most on my plate. The chocolate chip pancakes were good too. For what this place charges I would expect a better quality brunch but again I was hungover so maybe I missed something. Our server was very nice and attentive. That’s all I got.

Disappointing experience overall, from a place that can definitely do better. I’ll clarify first by saying that the food is really good and on par with other similar Belgian restaurants. So no complaints there. But the service… geez. I hate to be hard on servers, after all, anyone can have an off day, but there’s really no excuse for THAT much attitude. I ordered the moules frites in cream and garlic. As I said before, they were quite excellent and very enjoyable. My friends were similarly pleased with their entrees. It would have been a nice meal, except that our server was pretty much checked out the entire time we were there. It took forever to flag him down to order and once we did, he acted pretty surly and annoyed with us. Then, the occasions where he came to refill our water glasses, he kept forgetting to refill mine and would rush off before I had a chance to say anything. When I finally(politely) brought it to his attention, he smirked at me, and proceeded to fill my glass until the water OVERFLOWEDONTOTHETABLE… and dripped right into my friend’s lap. He literally watched us as we used our own napkins to wipe up the mess without saying a word or doing a thing. To add further insult to injury, it also took forever to pay our bill. We paid in cash and needed change, but our server decided to pocket the change as gratuity, which would have been a 30% tip. Umm, no. So it took even more time to settle our bill. As we were finally leaving, my friend politely informed the manager of our gripes, and while he was civil, it’s hard to tell if he actually cared. Not a good experience at all, and I feel bad for taking my friends here when I usually choose places that are so much better.

My family and I were planning to meet some friends last week for lunch on a weekday afternoon in the Flatiron District/Chelsea, and it was my job to find a place that was decently priced and had great reviews. My family is from the ‘burbs of Chicago, and our friends were here from Texas, so we all were not very familiar with places to eat in that area. Among the reviews I read for the area, this place peaked my interest. Though it was a busy time of the day, the staff made it seem like a breeze to find a table to fit five of us(thank you so much!), and the waitress was wonderful: letting us know the specials very clearly even though it was loud, constantly filling our water throughout the time we were there, even though it was busy. I know it seems trivial to some, but that seemingly small action is so noticeable to me. By the time we were finished eating, the place had died down a lot(around 2:30−3), so we stayed and chatted, and though emptier than when we had arrived, the ambiance was still great. My food was filling and so delicious, and when we left, everyone in our party said that going there was a great idea! This place is near my job, so I do plan on coming back again.

This Chelsea spot looks and feels authentic. Trust me, I’ve been to Belgium, Brussels, basically, the Netherlands. The burger and fries… redic. Hit it. Thank me later.

To be fair, I probably wasn’t at Markt long enough to have the lasting impression I’m sure the proprietors would have liked me to have of their eatery, but for the experience I had, I have to give it a mild shoulder shrug. It’s not that it wasn’t pleasant as the place fits nicely into the once-edgy, now-decidedly commercial Chelsea neighborhood, but the blandly urban bistro vibe is probably getting tiresome to me and my tattered palate. I was here from out-of-town for a group lunch with colleagues who work nearby, and it’s one of their regular haunts. I can see why as Markt offers an inoffensive Belgian-French menu of choices — green salads, omelettes, baguette sandwiches, and of course, a half-dozen treatments of mussels with frites(photo: ). But I had to look professional plus I had a train to catch from Penn Station, so no finger-sucking moules for me, mes amis. I decided a $ 13 Croque Madame would be acceptable fare as it made me look continental yet accessible. And if you believe I gave that much thought to my professional image, well, you deserve this review. Anyway, as madames go, this one was fair-to-middling even with two sunnyside-up eggs staring me square in the face. The Paris ham underneath was rather skimpy and dry and the cheese barely melted(photo: ). The bread was grilled, but it didn’t have the excess of butter that usually makes it a more decadent sandwich. Surprisingly, what saved it were the greens and sprouts below, which must have been the Belgian touch. Pass the frites, s’il vous plait. FOOD — 3 stars… an unspectacular Croque Madame can define your whole day AMBIANCE –3.5 stars… casual bistro vibe like basically every other city bistro SERVICE — 3 stars… shoulders shrug again TOTAL — 3 stars… unfussy Chelsea bistro near the Flatiron for the busy working drone
