At my first meal here I found what I ate – coq au vin and the chocolate cake desert – very, very good! Service was nice, and the décor, while nothing to write home about, was perfectly acceptable.

This restaurant is a solid 3.5 stars(come on Unilocal bring out half stars!!!). Came here on a Monday night at 8:45pm(my bday dinner) and the restaurant was pretty empty there were 4 tables besides us. The restaurant itself is laid out perfectly. One side is the bar which is classic and beautiful and the other side you have tables and even a back area that can be closed off for private parties. This is a good sized restaurant. They have a great wine list my bf and I were very happy with our wine selection. They also bring out delicious warm and crusty bread and butter. Service was very nice and attentive. Our water glasses were always filled and they constantly picked up empty plates and cleaned the table. We ordered escargot as appetizer, I would definitely pass on this as I’ve had much better it just lacked flavor. For dinner I ordered coq au vin this came out with tattaglia pasta. I thought this was perfectly cooked and the portion was generous. I really enjoyed all the flavors and was very happy with my dish. My bf got their burger which came out with fries and a small salad. This was cooked perfectly and the flavors were delicious. My only complaint was that it was not a small salad at all it was more like four leaves of lettuce. We also got a traditional french dessert(it was merengue something) this was not good at all do not get this it was a total waste of money. Overall I really liked this restaurant. I think their entrees are delicious and their service was nice and attentive. They seem to have a great happy hour with food and drink specials so we’ll definitely be back to check that out. They also have an early bird special every day that for $ 24 you get a appetizer, entrée, and dessert.

I went to Bistro D’Ca with a Groupon and instantly fell in love with the place. Great casual atmosphere, very attentive Waite staff and the food oh the food was positively great. I had the Duck confit with oriental cole slaw and roasted potatoes with Sherry reduction.(YUM) My son had the Tagliatelle with French ham and cream perfectly delicious. The French bread was hot and crispy. The wine was superb Argentine Bodegas Medoc. Wow what a perfect compliment to my duck I savored every drop. They offer daily specials and an early bird Pre-Fixe Dinner, the order must be in the Kitchen by 6:30. Can’t wait for my next trip there. Go they won’t disappoint you.

Eh. Meh. Went here with a Groupon. The Groupon was not good value but that is the case with most places these days. I have been looking at this unfinished review for weeks now. I can’t think of anything else to say other than I would not come here again. It was okay, not spectacular and a little on the pricey side.

The hangar steak lives up to its rep, but the uncomfortable chairs and hot, stuffy atmosphere detracts from full enjoyment of the service and cuisine. One person in my party raved about his duck leg, and my wife’s pâté dish had her over the moon. Too bad they are so careless when it comes to providing a comfortable dining establishment.

As soon as you walk in, the first thing you see is the bar. No one was there to greet my party so it was a little awkward. For a minute I thought I was in the wrong place. The ambiance was a bit dark for my liking. For appetizer, I had the calamari. It was fried perfectly but it was tough… chewy. The dipping sauce was kind of bland. It was okay. For dinner, I had the moules marinieres with French fries. The mussels were cooked perfectly but the broth was somewhat plain. It was good but I’ve had better especially for their prices. The service was okay. The waiter was inattentive. The busboy/food runner was more attentive than the actual server. It took 30 minutes to get out bill. Personally, it seemed a little overprice even with the groupon for the quality of food they had. I probably wouldn’t go back unless I had to.

Came with a Groupon(the 2 entrees and 1 dessert would have came out to $ 60.97 if not for the $ 50 Groupon) Had the burger and hanger steak, both came with the fries and the small side salad Had the Crème bulee THEATMOSPHERE: quaint Theres a bar when you enter, with the intimate seating area in the back. We came at night, so there was a girl playing French music with a guy on guitar. The singing wasn’t for my taste, but the other people seemed to like it, so I wouldn’t hold it against them in rating this place THESERVICE was fine Not super attentive, but quick enough and the guy was quick to refill my water THEFOOD My burger was fine. Not great, but definitely not bad– adequate I’d say a ‘lil pricey for the $ 18 pricetag though and came with the downside of the meal: the mushy fries(ok, they weren’t mushy mushy, but they were definitely weren’t crispy or any GOOD. And they needes salt) The steak was fine too I’m not a crème bulee guy. It was my first first time ever having it. It was fine, but it definitely wasn’t my thing. I think there’s definitely other stuff on the menu that probably could have been better for me to try.

Scrumptious French food. For apps the calamari is fresh and crispy. We also got the moules marnieres which were okay. The broth was a bit bland and not as flavorful as we are used to. For mains the merguez frites and hanger steak are delicious! The merguez is craving worthy. The portions are generous. The restaurant is cozy and dimly lit so makes for a romantic date night! The entrance is a bit awkward and there isn’t a hostess desk upfront but once seated the service is friendly and efficient.

Probably closer to5 than 4 stars on this Tuesday night. Quiet cozy atmosphere with great food. I had been here about a year ago on a busy Friday night when it was much noisier. But on both occasions the food and service were exemplary. So for quiet and early in the week, for me, this was perfect.

Amazing French place! Beautiful looking space, very kind and professional staff, D’à côté is a great find in the UES! We started with the duck rilettes and the goat cheese salad. Both were fantastic. The rilettes are home made and perfect. The goat cheese on the salad was wrapped in crispy dough and baked and my mom, visiting from France, adored it! As for the entrees, we had the steak frites, perfectly cooked and seasoned and the fries were a great side kick to the yummy meat. I had the grilled salmon with the homemade ratatouille and that too was delicious. We took my mom visiting from France, I grew up in France, and my husband and I go out to eat most days of the week. This place is real French modern food with classic inspiration. We all loved it! I wish we lived closer.

We have been a customer since the restaurant opened(2010−2011…). We went with our friends, family, even had a few birthday dinners there along the way. It’s our go-to French restaurant in the area, the service and the food quality is excellent and has remained remarkably consistent overtime. Last night, we ordered the escargot, carbonara and hanger steak, everything came out great and was delicious. The cabaret music(Thursday evenings) was an added bonus to cap a great dinner.

I don’t understand why this restaurant receives such mediocre reviews and there are so few patrons. I bought a groupon and decided to give this place a try. Unlike other places, it allows me to sit at a table while waiting for my party. The manager was very patient and refilled my water promptly. Service was super friendly and attentive; we were not treated differently just because we used the groupon. As for the food, good portion, everything was tasty though may not be superb. Price was a little high without the groupon, though.

We went here twice and twice we had outstanding experience. Service is very fast and pleasant. They bring fresh bread right away, pour water and if you choose to have wine, they have a large selection and can recommend very good one. We ordered escargot and crab cake for appetizer. Both were amazing. Crab cake was as good as it could get-reasonable size, seasoned well and very fresh. Both times they had large selection of specials and we order those. Food was just right, once I had shrimp first time and salmon the second. My so had veil. Dishes were extremely tasty. They have very good dessert selection as well. Usually I do not enjoy French cuisine, but this restaurant changing my view. This place is way better than French restaurants in Midtown, but only for much cheaper!

Went here on a Wednesday evening, was quiet. Server was very nice, glass of Bordeaux at $ 13 was mediocre. Baguette was excellent. Coq a vin had excellent sauce with good vegetables but there was only a few tiny pieces of chicken! You needed a flashlight to find them. Chicken is cheap, they need to up their game here at this pleasant place, to compete with places such as Felice across the street.

We ate here to celebrate my son’s 17th birthday. The food was delicious! We had hanger steak and coq au vin, plus salads and foie gras(buttery and smooth as silk). The service was attentive, the space low key and pleasant. An unpretentious, authentic French bistro with excellent dishes. We loved it! Will be coming back again, next time to try the prix fixe menu which is available before 6:30pm. It’s a great value — appetizer, main course and dessert for under $ 25 — but you must pay cash.

I ordered delivery here last night. I got the escargot(quite decent) the truffled risotto(mushy with barely any truffle flavor) and the«French» cheese plate for TWENTY dollars which a) had two of four non-French cheeses and b) was insanely skimpy and cheap given the price tag. I will never EVER patron this restaurant again.

I stopped here on a whim because I saw pâté on the menu board. I sat at the bar, which was just right for a single diner. The house made pâté was perfect served with toasted bread. The woman who served me was attentive but not pushy. I was able to read a book in peace without being rushed and enjoy a nice meal.

When my boyfriend and I came in there was no one up front to welcome us in. It was a very awkward entrance way with the bar up front and the dining area in the back. There was no hostess station in the front for us to tell them how many people there were. A customer sitting at the bar saw us just hanging out looking around and directed us to the back. A customer. She announced jokingly later to her friends that she was the hostess of the restaurant. So overall it was a meh first impression. When we got to the hostess section which is located in the middle of the restaurant, we stood there trying to get out of the way of all the waiters trying to manuever through the restaurant with their various plates. We were seated and were quickly ready to order. The restaurant was very busy and was very lacking on staff. There was probably two waiters and a bunch of service staff who couldn’t take our food order. We waited at least 15 minutes before the waiter came by to take our order. After taking our order we realized that the table next to us who ordered later had some bread on their table. We ended up having to ask for our bread. We had ordered 2 glasses of white wine and when our drink came we got one red and one white which was whatever but considering our initial experience so far it kind of compounded. The bread they served was actually delicious. It was a nice warm baguette and delicious. The food took so long to arrive that my boyfriend and I finished a serving and a half of the bread. Our appetizer was fried calamari with some sauce. This appetizer was also delicious. The batter on the calamari was just enough so that it was a little crispy but not so much that it was all you could taste. The calamari was very light and paired well with the sauce. An hour after we were seated our entrees came out. My boyfriend got the hanger steak and I got the coq au vin which is a chicken stew with pasta. The steak was delicious. It was topped with some herbed butter and also came with french fries which were sliced thinly as well as some spring greens. The herbed butter was perfect with the steak and worked nicely. The coq au vin has nice thick flat noodles which I love. However the stew itself tasted a little like medicine. I’m not sure if that is the intention of the stew but it reminded me strongly of chinese medicine. The chicken inside consisted of two drum sticks and one thigh and some breast. I had one drum stick which wasn’t terrible and another breast. The breast was really dry and seemed burned on one side. Overall the service here was pretty awful. The restaurant might consider changing up their layout so that the hostess table is in the front of the restaurant and not awkwardly crowded in the center in the way of all the hubbub of the restaurant. This way they can also see the customers that are arriving. The food is decent but not sure if it’d be worth the wait. One plus though was that the service staff(not waiters) was very diligent about getting our waters filled before we asked.

My boyfriend and I had such a lovely dinner here. Every thing we tried was amazing. We came here with a groupon, which was an awesome deal, but I would honestly come back for the food, ambiance, and service even at regular price. My boyfriend had some kind of strawberry special cocktail that was fresh and delicious. For entrees we shared the mushroom risotto and the filet mignon. Both were cooked perfectly and were just so heavenly delicious, I can’t really think of any other way to describe them. We had extremely friendly and efficient service. They have lots of specials going on at different times, so it’s worth checking out for those as well. I don’t understand any of the sub-par reviews here– I would reccomend coming here without hesitation.

Came here with a Groupon because we were at the Met earlier and this place was pretty close. The Groupon was a good deal, but I don’t think that I would come back here without it as it was pretty pricey for the quality. We came in at 5:30 on a Thursday, so the place was empty. We were seated by the friendly waitress and the French-speaking host at a nice table in front by the window. We started with the escargots, which, I must admit, was heavenly. Though I suppose anything doused in butter and garlic is bound to taste good, right? We got the house red, which was a Bordeaux. It came with the Groupon so we couldn’t be too picky, but I really hated this wine. I know it’s house wine, but I’ve had many better house wines at other restaurants, and whoever picked this one really didn’t have good taste. It really lacked any sort of depth or complexity, and just sorta tasted like water with a twinge of alcohol and fruit. I ordered the coq au vin and my dining companion ordered a special– a cut of veal with a gorgonzola crust and prosciutto. The special was delicious, but definitely felt out-of-place in a French restaurant. My coq au vin was very flavorful and the sauce was just right(not too salty but not too bland), but the chicken was on the dry side. The service was fine, but the food was definitely overpriced. We could have easily spent $ 90 on a very average dinner for two(shared app, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine). Don’t come out of your way to eat here, but the Groupon might be worth it.

I went there my mom for a late lunch. We ordered a goat cheese and a pear salad. The cheese didn’t feel like goat cheese, it was blend and very soft. The vegetables were not fresh ATALL!!! My mom had a coq au vin that was what she called a «catastrophe!» The manager had a bit of an attitude. We’ll never be back.

4 stars because the venue is cozy, dimly lit and romantic. The food is truly more of a 3-stars, but I would still give the overall experience a 4. My boyfriend and I stopped in after I had a craving for French food but didn’t want to leave the UES neighborhood. The layout of this place is odd and when you enter you barely realize there is a whole other side to sit and eat. We started with the onion soup and calamari with chipotle mayo. The onion soup had good flavor but didn’t blow me away. The calamari coating was very thin and was a bit rubbery overall, maybe overcooked. It was edible — but not great For dinner we tried the truffle mushroom risotto and pasta with ham and cream sauce. Both dishes were very good but lacked seasoning(salt and pepper) in my opinion. We also tried the crème brûlée which was a generous portion but lacked in flavor. Although the food was average, our server was very kind and didn’t rush us at all. We split a great bottle of red wine and enjoyed the experience despite the food quality falling a little short of our expectations.

I went here a few weeks ago with my girlfriend after buying a groupon that is no longer being offered. The restaurant is a tad small and there’s a bar when you walk in and as you curl around, you’ll see a fair number of tables in the back and a line of tables to the right. The setting is high end, classy and since I already used the word cozy, I’ll call it comfortable. To start my girlfriend and I split the Moules Marinieres which were steamed mussels with garlic, shallots and white wine broth. I never eat mussels, but I took the plunge on this one and thought they were fantastic. Bear in mind, I had seriously never eaten mussels prior so I’m obviously a mussels noob, but I really enjoyed them. For our entrees my girlfriend ordered the Coqau Vin which is red wine chicken stew with bacon, mushrooms and carrots served with tagliatelle. She adored it, but I honestly wasn’t a huge fan. I ordered the special with was a braised short rib and it was absolutely and utterly delicious. The sauce, the tenderness of the meat… just wow. I was blown away and I kept fighting off my girlfriends prodding fork because I was not interested in sharing. Ultimately, I gave 4 stars rather then 5 because our waiter was kind of rude. When I presented the groupon he kind of scoffed and at times I could sense this under the radar attitude that made us uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I would definitely come back for the food and the classy venue.

What a nice surprise! This place is amazing, it really is a quaint French Bistro. I was feeling Ooh la la and started off with a great French wine and Charcuterie. Man, they have the Pâté down, it was amazing and I didn’t want it to end. Outstanding Duck Confit for my main course. Cooked perfectly. Cooked perfectly French. One of my all time favorite French dishes. Dessert? How about some nice Crème Brûlée? Served here and served very well. My waiter was a typical French Waiter. I ordered an Espresso and there was no sugar on the table. I asked for Sugar. He said something like, «Do you want Sugar??». It was off and my Brooklyn kinda kicked him into motion. Pour some sugar on me, Oui! Now get crackalackin. Nice place that won’t disappoint.

I am giving one star to the manager of the restaurant. I went with my mom for brunch Sunday afternoon. The food is always very delicious but that’s about it. We got a check for $ 32.61 and gave $ 40. The manager first ask if we needed change and we said yes. He gave us back $ 7 without the $ 0.31. We asked for the left over change but he refused and grin at us. He said all of his years working here they never gave small change back. THISIS A COMPLETELIE. Of all the times I’ve eaten here I’ve gotten even pennies back. We kindly told him that there is a difference between the change we receive and the tip we decide to give. I am a good tipper and I never care about $ 0.31 but it was the mindset and attitude about this manager that ticked us off. My mom is also in the service industry and she kindly told him that this is not how you handle business but he rudely rejected the idea. Not sure if I would be going back. But I guess if I was really craving good French food I would but probably won’t enjoy my dining experience with this memory…

Alrighty, I came back to write this Unilocal a bit more proper like as per request by Michael K., a fellow Unilocaler and more importantly, my best friend on this planet. We are competitive in nature and our taste buds are no different. Back to the restaurant at hand. Le Bistro de Cote is of a Parisian background tucked perfectly on the upper east side of 80th and 1st avenue on the same block of Il Tesoro(which I will be going to sometime very soon, just got a sweet voucher !!!, hahahaha) As I enter, make the passageway through the long bar and greeted by a friendly and gracious hostess, unlike in One Thai Chef(check that review). The food, the service and the place were on point. Great Ambiance. The steak was to die for. Wifey and I split it. Appetizers started us off just right with crispy calamari and duck pâté, yes u heard me, duck pâté(paa – tay). go here, u won’t regret it.

Le Bistro D’à Côté is a very narrow restaurant with two sections. A little confusing until the hostess leads you into the other side where the restaurant is. Once you get in, you in this very chic and modern restaurant. The bread basket was one of the best, really warm and soft! We asked for a total of 3 baskets splitting between two people — yes it was that good. The escargot was yummy, a bit on the saltier side, but the flavor — omg perfect concoction of garlic, parsley and butter. We ordered the homemade foie gras with fig marmalade & toast. I liked it, but it was a little overwhelming and heavy. Good thing we shared, otherwise I would have gotten sick of it quickly. For the entrée, we ordered the Moules au Pastis, huge portion(can stuff 2 people), but the flavor could have been better. The side of ratatouille is surprisingly good, we ordered it after watching the movie, and thought we wanted to give it a try. Now I am in love!
