Brunch — I had trout, perfectly cooked and excellent veggies on side. My wife had mussels OMG — huge, from Long Island apparently and fantastic flavors. Great meal.

I have been dining here periodically for years. It has always been consistent and reliable until recently. I do not know what happened but when I dined here last night it was a complete disappointment. The French Onion Soup was bland and the escargot tasted like it had been frozen and reheated for service(which was odd because it didn’t come piping hot as escargot is supposed to be served). the service was pathetic and then they wanted to charge $ 4 to split an already overpriced $ 14 salad! Well, as a consolation, they«graciously» offered to give us an extra plate at no extra charge. I will not be returning any time soon.

I have been going to this«neighborhood» restaurant for over 10 years with friends. It has been our tradition when the weather gets cold, like tonight, to choose this restaurant for«comfort«food. Not so comfortable tonight, when my friend and I first ordered an appetizer salad($ 14) and requested that it be split by the kitchen. We were informed by the waitstaff that there would be a $ 4 «plate» charge for this service as per the owner, who, of course, was not there to discuss this appalling policy with. I’m sure that, in the future, my friends and I will be able to find a better local restaurant which is more interested in providing customer service, satisfaction, and comfort.

I adore this place. Have been here twice and was thoroughly impressed with the food and with the service. The décor is nice as well. The tables can be a little close together but the intimate feel is welcome, and the food may be so delicious that you don’t notice.

I visited this place for the first time this week and was very pleased with the food and ambiance. Jacques the owner was very welcoming and hospitable. I ordered the moules frites and instantly felt like I was in heaven. It made me feel like I was dining in France. His«new» service staff was an especially nice addition to a neighborhood staple. I highly recommend!

Tonight was my first time eating inside. I have been here a few times before and have eaten outside. I liked the old-world décor and french posters. Our server was very polite as well as the support staff. They even escorted us to the front door afterward to hold the door open for us. You can’t go wrong with the moules-frites here. I love the Provencale with the tomato broth. The Vol au Vent was perfectly flaky and cheesy with truffle oil. Mmmmm. My friend and I split everything along with some delish wine, and were full. We had ordered sauteed spinach too, but the forgot to bring it out. It was okay though, because we couldn’t eat another bite. The oysters here looked good, at least the 9 year-old next to us thought so. I have never seen someone so young eat Oysters like that. Impressive. I hope to be back soon to try more of the menu.

Have been here several times and it is a great little restaurant that is always reliably good. Try the escargot, very tasty. Service has always been superb as well, despite being quite busy on occasion. I look forward to going back.

The owner was quick to introduce himself and the hostess, Diana is a pure peach. Extremely attentive bartender and amazing food. Nice ambience, interesting music and even more amazing service.

Very good service despite being busy. There’s a small terrace as well good for a quick bite and a beautiful dining room where a party was underway. I was visiting a friend that lives two blocks away and we had a delicious brunch with their 15 dollars drinks special. Solid food, delicious mussels and a nice dessert list. Get the salmon sandwich if you’re there for Brunch but definitely try their mussels.!They were busy but the service was very professional and our drinks were replenished in a timely manner. I cannot wait to go there for dinner and try their steaks as well, grass fed according to our friendly waitress. I must say my friend is very demanding but it didn’t seem to be frown upon like it sometimes happens in other places. l Good experience and definitely recommended..

This is why you live in New York. It’s not Paris, but it can FEEL like it, at the right restaurant. I had the thon tartare and the saumon, both perfect. So were the wine and the service.

Didn’t find any of the food appealing. Had the mushroom pappardelle on my most recent visit and it was disgusting — totally oily, lacking salt, and gave me a tummy ache. Prices are ludicrous for this quality of food.

Oh boy. This used to be our neighborhood French place but good grief has it gotten rough. Tonight my lovely wife and I were celebrating a new job with wine and oysters. The waiter was very nice. We were seated quickly and got our water right away. She ordered a nice Bordeaux and Bluepoints. They arrived, she ate one and nearly gagged. Slimy and awful. Not your normal Bluepoint. «Waiter! Can you please take these back, they are not right.» «Sure, I’m sorry» Not a minute later our nauseating Bluepoints are back at our table in the hands of the T-shirt clad manager, «these are not bad, these are good oysters» says the manager poking his finger into one of the larger, slimier ones. «These are fine» «We’ve had a few oysters in our day and I’m sorry to say, No, they aren’t, they are disgusting, are you arguing with me?» «There is nothing wrong with these oysters, we aren’t charging you, but they are fine» he snarled. Annnnnnnd that’s the last time we come to Jaques.

Sadly I was very disappointed in this place. I had wanted to try it for a while but now that I have I will not be going back. My experience will explain why… We arrived at 6PM on a Thursday. The restaurant was not busy, yet it took 15 minutes to get room temperature water and menus. I asked the waiter what the soup of the day was. He replied«lentil» so I ordered it. 10 minutes later, he returned. Waiter #1: «I was wrong. The soup of the day is not lentil. Would you like it anyway?» Me: «What is the soup of the day?» Waiter #1: «Oh, hold on, let me check» Another 5 minutes pass and a new waiter approaches… Waiter #2: «Who ordered the soup?» Me: «I did» Waiter #2: «Ok. Soup of the day is lentil» Me: «But the other waiter said it isn’t lentil» Waiter #2: «Then what did he say it is?» Me: «He was going to check for me» Again, 5 minutes later…(at this point my boyfriend already has his appetizer) Waiter #1: «The soup of the day is root vegetable» Me: «Ok sure, I’ll take it» Waiter #1 walks away and waiter #2 comes back… Waiter #2: «I’m so sorry Miss but it actually turns out that we are out of all soups» Me: «Even the root vegetable?» Waiter #2: «We don’t make root vegetable soup» Me: «Ok» 10 minutes later my soup finally arrives. It was lentil.

I’ve been back to Jacques on numerous occasions and I have never been disappointed. The food here is nothing but perfect. The highlight of any trip to Jacques continues to be the moules-frites. They have several varieties and I’ve been happy with them all.(Dijonnaise style is my definite favorite). I’ve been to Paris and had moules-frites on more than one occasion there — Jacques’s are better! I swear!(Yes, I know this is a Belgium style brasserie, but I’m just saying) Beyond the moules-frites, everything else has been wonderful. I love the steak tartare, the croque monsieur and madame, etc… Although I haven’t gotten through the entire menu yet, I’d be shocked to find something that suddenly did not live up to the expectation of everything which has come before it. The entire staff at Jacques is welcoming and accommodating. They make you feel at home. So should you come into Jacques??? Most definitely — what are you waiting for?

Went there for dinner this past Sunday with friends from the city. They go frequently and highly recommended the restaurant. My appetizer was a shrimp dish w/guacamole — how French is this? Several people at the table ordered escargot and they seemed to like it. My son’s steak was smothered with a very spicy sauce which landed him with stomach problems for a full day. My main dish was the trout with a celery root mash. The mash was cold and the trout was over done and dry — tasteless. My husband had a pasta dish which he could not even finish because it was so awful. The interior of the restaurant was pretty and certainly reminded me of bistros in Paris but the food was such a disappointment that I will never go back.

A fuir ! Ce n’est pas un restaurant Français ! It is not a French Restaurant! Une copie ! Only the Marketing!

Absolutely the most dishonest restaurant in the big apple! For the third time, And after paying the bill in cash each time, they neglected to give me back the change. They round off the bill, and it’s always In their favor. Tonight, however, my husband complained, and they said they always round it off, and sometimes it comes out in the customers favor. Ridiculous! Can you imagine if grocery stores and all other eating establishments started doing that? They must make a great deal f extra money every night off of their unsuspecting customers. They don’t even try to deny it! Stay far far away from this place. And the owner is also in agreement on this because he is well aware of what’s going on. I won’t be back, and neither will my friends! Total rip off of unsuspecting people!

no undersea adventures with Mr. Cousteau here, but Jacques Brasserie is still a fine spot for sampling French cuisine. it’s pretty rare that I have canard a l’orange, but it was a good choice. tender, flavorful duck with sauteed scallions and… wait…prune gnocchi? never heard of that before, but it was actually pretty tasty. the orange sauce was nice and tangy. so far as the atmosphere here, it was a bit more relaxed than most French places. I was also a fan of the selection of Belgian beer available. service was good on a Saturday afternoon — attentive but not overbearing. overall? solid spot for French dining. probably on the higher end of 3-stars for me, but it’ll take a repeat investigation to merit bumping up to 4 methinks.
