HMMM, I REALLYWISH I COULDGIVETHISPLACE A REVIEW… because I was definitely starving like Marvin but I couldn’t eat anything. Unless I wanted to eat the metal gate that was surrounding the establishment. Don’t you just hate it when you look up a place on Unilocal, get there and the joint is closed? Well, that’s what happend this past Saturday. No sign on the door, nothing, the gates were down. CLOSEDON A SATURDAY… at 6pm??? You’ve got to be kidding me. And then we headed over to Manna’s because unlike Green Apple, Manna ISOPEN.

I think this place has changed hands — had take out last night and everything was different, horrible. I’d be very wary of every using this place again, gone are the well prepared meats and sides, delicious BBQ. I got a soggy tasteless chicken quesadia, pulled pork(ok) and ribs poorly prepared, not soft. Sides were awful.

Muffins! BBQ! Greens! Reminds me of home. Anything that reminds me of the A has to get at least a four. Didn’t give it a five because of a BBQ craving I had and the dude wouldn’t let me order 15 minutes before they closed. But I guess perfection takes time and nobody wants old BBQ!

What happened? Had an inedible meal from Green Apple last night. So disappointing. The BBQ ribs were completely dry and the brisket a lump of over-salted, over-sauced mush. I’ve been a fan for over a year — my previous review was four stars. I see that the other recent reviews have been positive so hopefully this was just a really bad night and I’ll be updating with a more favorable review soon. I’ll give them a second chance but heads up, something might be going downhill…

Good stuff. We had a half rack with sauce, a half rack without, some sides and a special baked pumpkin dessert that they threw in for free. I would go with the saucy version. Ribs were nice and smokey with just right texture. And the people working there are really nice. I would do take out if you can because the place is kinda small.

Note that regardless of anything I say below, I WILL be back here, and it certainly trumps Dinosaur. However, if you live/work in the Union Square part of town, then you have plenty of choices locally. What I had: Rib Tips — good. Nice flavor. Buffalo wings —(they were out) Hushpuppies — heavy. Corn bread — had a very funky taste, like it had been stored next to fish. Coleslaw — creamy variety. Very good Sweet potatoes — WAY too much maple syrup. Although I love real maple syrup, this is an instance when brown sugar would be better. Pork ribs & Brisket combo — oh my. Very good. Brisket like butter, and WAY better than Dinosaurs. Pulled pork — very good, BUT had a strange taste(caraway?) that just didn’t belong.(They mix an odd rub) Needed sauce(supplied) VERY nice staff. Tiny place, so you may well take out. HUGE delivery area, so take advantage! I’m looking forward to trying their dry rub ribs and the chicken… and a nice flan!

I ordered the brisket, mashed potatoes and cole slaw via delivery. The brisket was very tasty and tender; the mashed potatoes held up well(although, understandably, the potatoes had absorbed the gravy during transit). The cole slaw was a bit soggy and heavy on the dressing; other than that, a solid delivery option.

Pulled pork+me+walking distance to my house=oh yeah! I went to Green Apple recently and it made me feel warm and happy. The pulled pork sandwich was flavorful and succulent, and the folks who work there were super friendly. The place was a little tiny spot, so I took the food to go. The sides weren’t as fabulous as the porkwiches. The side of macaroni and cheese was strangely buttery– usually I love that but I was wishing it was more cheese and less butter. I also tried the fries. They didn’t travel well and wound up being a bit soggy after a five minute walk home. The pork was wonderful enough for me to forgive the shortcomings of my sides and incidentally, I ate everything. The prices here are really reasonable, so Green Apple is well worth a visit.

Green Apple BBQ is bipolar like that gawd-awful Katy Perry song; Cause you’re hot and you’re cold You’re yes and you’re no You’re in and you’re out You’re up, then you’re down… Real talk; every OTHER thing I ordered via delivery was delicious(and they arrived in 20 minutes on a Saturday-nite!) Like the hush puppies with maple butter, which tastes exactly like my grandma makes them in South Carolina from seasoned spoonfuls of cornmeal batter(usually before a fish fry.) In a blind taste test, I wouldn’t have been able to distinguish the difference. But the mac-n-cheese tasted like orange Elmer’s glue on over-boiled macaroni… and looked exactly like that, too.(Or KFC mac-n-cheese, if you’ve ever been so unlucky to eat that monstrosity, too.) But you won me again with the pulled pork! It was juicy and flavorful with lots of smoke rings, and the portion was HUGE!!! Yet how dare you serve that delightful hunk of meat up on the stalest bodega butter-roll in NYC. Matter of fact, why are you even using bodega butter rolls?! Pulled pork calls for sweet-potato buns… even a supermarket brand like Martin’s woulda been better! And also… where the fuck is my sauce? I understand that true Bar-B-Que does not need/require sauce, since the sugars in the sauce just end up burning in the high heat. However, if you’re gonna give me meat on a stale bun — YOUBETTERGIVEMESAUCE!!! Consensus: Green Apple needs a culinary Zoloft. Get your shit together boo-boo, and I’ll sing your praises foreva.

2.5 stars — some dishes were good, others I’ve had better. I made the trek to Green Apple bbq since I was uptown visiting a friend. This was still out of the way for us(alllll the way by the water) damn! I had the pulled pork sandwich, hush puppies, and yams. First, I have resigned myself to the fact that nobody in this city apparently knows how to make hush puppies — whats up with the cheese thing?. I will no longer order them in hopes of biting into their buttery soft centers. These were dry, no flavor, weird cheese inside. However, they came with maple butter… DELISH!!! The yams were wayyy to syrupy — literally tasted like they used maple syrup to make them instead of brown sugar and butter. The yams themselves were too tough instead of being mashed potato smooth. The pulled pork however, I must give them props. This is carolina style, vinegar-based bbq. The meat was spiced and seasoned well and the bbq sauce had a nice kick. The pork could have been a little more tender and more easily«pullable», but the flavor was great.

Everything we had was AMAZING. I can personally recommend the BBQ ribs, mango smoothie, mac & cheese, corn on the cob, and candied yams. I was expecting the sides to have sat luke warm under heating lamps for ages but everything was served hot and fresh instead. Great prices for the exceptional food. My new favorite restaurant in Spanish Harlem by a landslide. I uploaded some menu pics for your home delivery pleasure. Can’t say the prices will be the same forever but it’s well worth it.

I came for the value; I will come back for the taste. I took my Dad here for Father’s Day(he’s a BBQ fan), and the food was incredible. He had the pork ribs and I had the brisket and pork ribs. The Mac and Cheese was very creamy and salty. String beans tasted a little funny, but they were good overall. When my brother brought a cake for father’s day, they put it in their fridge and gave us plates. They had every right to charge us a ‘plating fee’, or something like that, but they didn’t. That went into the tip. They are trying very hard, and it shows in the food and the service. My Dad lives on the East Side and we used to schlep all the way over to Dinosaur for BBQ. Not anymore. They are in the same class as them, and their prices are much better. The only downside is that they only have five tables. Maybe you should call ahead to make sure that they’re not full when you want to go.

big fan of Green Apple everything is good 10 hrs of smoking will make everything good… the brisket on a bad day i would say is a four because being a small spot they might have some from the day before which i understand… the greens are nice and spicy I dont care much for sauce but they have a nice vinegar base sauce

I think the most important thing to mention is that this place is a great value! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, the brisket sandwich, and then the grilled chicken salad. Everything was a huge portion and really well priced. I was surprised when my friend ordered a salad from a bbq place… I was not expecting much but the salad was really fresh and loaded with grilled chicken. Overall a great experience and the delivery was very quick. The only thing to mention is that we called this joint several other days and never got through… are they closed on some days??? Literally… we have called three different days and never got a response…

Adorable local BBQ joint! Although there are only about 3 tables in the place, the service(by the owner) was outstanding. The ribs were delicious and the sides were HUGE and delicious. The prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back, way better than any of the chains(like Dallas or Jimmy’s) and cute and cozy.

We tried this place based on Lauren B.‘s recommendation and were very pleased. We were nearby, so went in person for takeout. There are tables and chairs, and they had obviously made some effort with the place, but it was a little cold and there was a TV playing way too loud… it will definitely be a takeout/delivery place for us. But of course the important thing is the food, and the food was GREAT. We had the stuffed jalapenos, which were so much more than frozen jalapeño poppers(I like those too). They were homemade actual stuffed jalapenos with cheese and shrimp inside, breaded and fried and sooo good. A little spicy, as they had left the seeds in. They came with a nice cajun mayo. Brisket sandwiches were great, and served on nice hearty Kaiser rolls, which I much prefer to those soft hamburger buns that turn to mush. I personally was not a fan of the mac and cheese, it was like elbow macaroni with a thin, cheesy sauce on it. But my husband liked it. Prices are reasonable, but not especially cheap — we paid $ 22 for two sandwiches, sides, and the jalapenos. Dinner plates are about $ 15 each. Ok, wait, M-F lunch specials are super cheap. We are super excited about this place and will definitely be calling them quite soon to try some more stuff. Update 12÷23÷08 — found out to our painful chagrin last night that they are CLOSEDONMONDAYS!!! Argh! Why do we never notice these things before we spend 20 minutes carefully perusing the menu?!

Its dangerous that there is an amazing BBQ place that delivers in my neighborhood. The pulled pork is extremely tender. It’s vinegar style with a hearty black pepper kick. The pork ribs were fall off the bone amazing!
