I would say the service was terrible, but, we never had any! Sat for 40 minutes, was given water, and left because they never came back to take our drink or food orders.

The food is excellent, but here’s the thing: the service sucks(most of the staff acts as though they don’t want to be there), the wait for your food is long and on Sundays the restaurant closes at some undisclosed time — though online it says 9:30 — and you can only deliver. When I asked if I could pick up, the answer to that was no. AND they have a $ 35 delivery minimum. No doubt, everyone loves the food, but complaints about the service and the managerial organization have been long standing. If you have the patience and stamina, stick it out, but often, not worth it.

The restaurant is cozy and comfortable and the service was great. I ordered the fried chicken(white meat only), but I’m guessing the waitress didn’t hear me because I was brought dark meat. The one piece of fried chicken breast was amazing, but the three pieces left on my plate were a wing and two drumsticks which my husband mostly ate. My sides were French fries which were great and mac and cheese which was too salty. My husband ordered the short ribs which were really tasty and hearty. He loved his candied yams. We also enjoyed a complimentary cup of butternut squash soup which my husband thought was salty, but I disagreed. It was very tasty, but I didn’t like the potato chips in it. We ordered the coconut cake which was very yummy. It was a tiny bit on the dry side, but the coconut cream was everything. I would definitely return. We also loved the vibe, music and friendly crowd.

The staff was wonderful and so was the food. They were trying to pull in a bigger crowd for lunch so they had a lunch special. You either had free lunch or free dessert. I was the only one there so I recorded both. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and it was great.

My friend and I purchased a groupon for lunch here and decided to try it out today. After checking multiple times on their website to make sure that this place was open at noon, we arrived around 12:30 only to find the shop closed. There were no indications(like a sign on the window) to why the shop was closed and when it would open again. Warning: before you come here, call and make sure that it’s actually open. We made that mistake, wasted our time and energy, and left hungry and extremely disappointed. If your website says that you’re open at noon. You should be open at noon.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday night. As soon as we walked in and we were greeted and there was a table waiting for us. The restaurant is clean, mellow and casual, which I appreciate at any restaurant that I am a patron of. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure that we were well taken care of. The cornbread was out of this world, our entrees did take a little long, but I attribute that to the food being made to order. The food was delicious and we had a lovely romantic dinner. The manager even inquired about our dining experience, which I gladly told him about. I love to support family owned businesses, because they care about their customers and rely on their word of mouth to keep business coming in. We will definitely eat at this restaurant again in the future, thank you Mame’s for a great dining experience.

We were wary at first, because no one was in the place at 2:00 pm. We went on anyway. Lunch items were still available until 3. Husband ordered fried chicken with potato salad. I ordered the meatloaf with Mac and cheese. Mine was really tasty. Don’t know about the chicken, since the husband doesn’t share. The meatloaf had what I would call a creole taste. Two slices on the plate plus the Mac. Plenty of food. The stars were the Mac and the cornbread. Yum. Plenty of food for about $ 10. The first real bargain we’ve come across in NY so far.

Acá se come pollo frito. Sí o si. Iiinnncreible. Todo estaba riquísimo: les reputo: fried chicken is the key word.

Had the trout and it was really good, well seasoned. The vanilla cake with chocolate frosting is really good, and definitely can be shared. The rum punch is tasty, sweet and light. We especially liked the jams they played, older funk songs. Just a fun time and our waitress was so fun and nice. Really enjoyed it!

Growing up on a farm in NC with an abundance of fresh vegetables and amazing fried chicken, I continue to be disappointed with the Spoonbread experience. I really want to like their food, but have yet to order any item that meets the standards of true southern cuisine. In addition, the service is generally slow and the music too loud for my taste. The food is way over priced for poor favor and service. Sad to say, but this restaurant fails to represent the potential deliciousness of real southern food.

We got there at 7:15. We were giving drinks and corn bread and water. 50 minutes later. we will still waiting, I had to flag down the waitress and ask Where our food was? 5 minutes later, she came back and said the pork chops are the hold up? Why are they killing the pig in the back? At 55 minutes we gave up and left. It was 8:10. There were only six tables. It’s not like they were packed. WTF? Never again. I went there once before and they served me a stale piece of red velvet cake. They just don’t seem to care. Too bad. Last time.

At first I was so excited to try this place out, but that ended as soon as my meal came out. The cornbread was good… nothing amazing. The fried chicken was the best part. The cornbread stuffing was eh… I didn’t like the spices in it. The Mac n cheese was good… nothing amazing. The Hop n Jon I did not like. Now the candied yams were yumminess! We had the peach cobbler and it wasn’t impressive at all. It didn’t taste fresh and was definitely reheated in a microwave, making the crust kind of gummy. The portions are small… so don’t expect to leave overly stuffed. The staff weren’t the friendliest and most attentive either.

Well, where to begin. EVERYTHING takes forever. so come hungry only if you want to starve. Ordered sweet potatoes pie to go, just a slice, didn’t require heating. Well 10 minutes later we were still waiting. Only effort required… put it in a box and take my money! If you want your food the same day, come the day before!

its been more than 5 years since ive eaten here. the past weekend I called for takeout. DONOTTAKEOUT. The containers they use do not travel well. they need to visit the Asian restaurants in order to know how to do takeout. the food is the same but the prices have gotten higher and the portion sizes have stayed the same or gotten smaller. the wings in particular were a disappointment. a wing has 3 pieces and that’s how they use to sell them. now, they cut the wing in three pieces, discard the flap and sell each piece individually. I felt cheated. my bill came to $ 90. in the future im going to go to the kitchen and make something myself. if KFC ever pulled this crap with their wings I would move to put them out of business.

Upon first glance this place feels like you are eating dinner in someone’s Southern style home. It’s decorated with old photos of the owners’ family on the walls. In the menu it tell the story about how the restaurant is owned by the daughters that were inspired by their mothers cooking. The restaurant itself is named after their mother Miss Mamie. I loved seeks all of the photos of their family, especially knowing the recipes were probably passed down for generations. My friend and I ordered the Famous Southern Fried Chicken. It came with two sides and was big enough for two people to share. The cornbread served as a free appetizer to your table was delicious! It melted in your mouth. All of the food was wonderful! Also try the famous Spoonbread punch! I couldn’t get enough of it!

The waitress tried her best to make it happen for us. Ordered jerk wings only to be told that they wouldn’t be ready for an hour. Good save on the fried chicken wings with honey mustard. Nephew ordered bbq shrimp and received fried shrimp instead. Mac and cheese sub par… potato salad ummmmm no!!! Louisiana fried catfish was unappealing but edible. Melba’s around the corner is far better when it comes to taste. Waitress was fair with bill. Service is quality but slow and inconsistent.

Pros –Delicious food –Small, but cozy setting –Intimately lit –Reasonable prices Cons –Storefront needs work –Bad service –Inexperienced bartender –Minimal choices of alcoholic drink and non alcoholic drinks –Long wait for food Sources: I have been here twice and tried many things off of the menu. I asked for a cosmopolitan(vodka and cranberry) and the waiter/bartender said she gave all of her alcohol away for a party. I looked at the bar and saw three different half empty bottles of vodka and two closed jugs of cranberry juice. I then knew she didn’t know what a cosmopolitan was. The service has dwindled from the first and second time I have come. If they have better service, then they will definitely be a 4 star restaurant.

While in NYC, I met up with an old friend who suggested this place for lunch since it was near her apartment. It’s in a really pleasant neighborhood a few blocks west of Central Park and right near the St John the Divine Gothic Cathedral. The neighborhood was really pleasant and outdoorsy — reminded me of a New York version of, say, San Francisco’s Noe Valley. When we went, they were closing for a private party, but were still offering to-go orders to us and the few other people who came in. We ordered chicken — one fried and one smothered, with various sides — green beans, greens, mac n cheese, potatoes — and it came out pretty fast. The lady who took care of us was super-friendly, which meant a lot considering that she was also trying to get the place set-up for a pretty big private party that was coming in. The décor was really interesting — it was just beige tables and chairs, almost bland at first, but when you focus on it, it becomes all encompassing. Really interesting décor. The food was fantastic. Very fresh and delicious, and not too heavy or starchy. We took our food across the street at sat by the statue of the Archangel Michael and enjoyed some really flavorful chicken and sides. Great stuff.

I came here with some friends on a groupon that was $ 30 for $ 60 worth of food. It did not list at the time any restrictions. Upon arrival we discovered that roughly half the menu would not be an option for us — including the chicken and waffles which was very disappointing. As far as décor goes, there isn’t much. It’s essentially a plain cube with a bunch of tables squeezed in with chairs that are just a bit big for the space. There really isn’t any ambiance. Which is a shame. I think our server was new since she seemed out of her element. She kept referring to the beers in the basement that we could order, which wasn’t terribly inspiring. Our appetizer came out with our entrees, which sort of defeats the purpose. They claimed to have a bar but when our friend ordered a Manhattan the girl stared at us blankly and said«What’s that?» One of our friends ordered the gumbo and after our entrees arrived and the gumbo hadn’t the girl finally came out saying, «Someone called and said something in our gumbo is bad and so we can’t serve it now.» Which gave us all a little pause before eating. I wanted to take her aside and say, «You probably should have just said you were fresh out of gumbo. But thanks for the honesty.» I will say that you get a lot of food with your order, which probably ties in to the Southern experience. Everyone ordered something different. I had the fried chicken and I will admit it was expertly fried. Everyone else agreed the rest of the food was adequate but it wasn’t really mind-blowing. Which is a shame. I love some fried chicken and sausage gravy and biscuits and was really looking forward to good Southern cooking. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be coming back, though I could perhaps be persuaded to order out the fried chicken again, but that’s about it.
