Been here probably 5 or more times naturally by living in the area. Never impressed. When they first opened I really loved the concept as Chelsea lacked /s the«speak easy vibe» but really it’s just in my opinion a generic gentrified money pit for people with lacks of creativity to have something to talk about on a first date or finance guys to meet at and gawk at females. Always disgustingly packed. Similar atmosphere to me as Employee’s Only which everyone raves about and once again I’m never impressed at. The cocktail menu is really large & everything is great but the atmosphere is ruined by the 4 rows of people swarming by the poorly laid out bar that always acts as an entryway and small table area. To me the irony of the new trendy«speakeasy» is that none of them actually are anything of the sort. But, I’ll give this place props because I believe actually once was a speakeasy back in the day but I think the 8 or more person line on any given day with giant bouncers in front of a coffee shop gives away the appeal. I know majority of speakeasies are similar but trust me there’s better in this city. Idk call me crazy but I’d rather go to a low key bar that’s undermined in this beautiful city and have a personal experience. I’m sure this place will make lots of money for awhile. I never been for a burlesque show so regardless of my opinion I might have to check it out & maybe I’ll be dazzled.

This is definitely a very cute and chic place to have a drink. It’s part glitzy part hipster on the inside, in a balance that gets it right. Definitely worth checking out for the vibe and interior, very much a «New York» type of place, in the way that it’s cool without trying too hard. One star is lost because I just didn’t think the drinks were worth the price – have had better at other speakeasies for less.

Amazing little speakeasy bar, with intimate booths on both sides of the venue and a small bathtub smack in the middle of the floor. The drinks are amazing and the ambiance is A+, I highly recommend. Their aikido cocktail is da bomb.

Been on a bit of a speakeasy craze, and I really enjoyed my night here. Drinks and food were fantastic — loved the truffle fries and ricotta cavatelli. They really try to squeeze people in, especially on the weekends, so be prepared to get cozy. Bring a flashlight if you have trouble reading in dim lighting :)

I really like Bathtub Gin, however the drinks are so expensive I can’t give them a full 5 stars. It is a really neat place to grab a few drinks with friends or take a date out on an expensive evening. I recommend if you are coming with a big group to make a reservation, it does get super crowded. I came with a group of 10 and we had a reservation. A table in the back fit us perfectly, and those who did not fit were able to stand around and still be social with the rest of the group. We both used table service & service from the bar. It was packed at the bar! The service was prompt. I loooove the ambiance here, it really is an intimate speakeasy. Check it out next time you are in the area!

Really cool spot! Definitely make a reservation ahead of time. I came here on a Wednesday night(which is one of the days they don’t have any live entertainment) and it was still very crowded around 10−11pm! Got a table for 2 near the bathtub in the middle of the dining area. For food, we ordered the tuna tartare tacos(which were definitely a bit underseasoned) and then got the cook your own s’mores. Would totally recommend the s’mores as a dessert! The drinks were fairly pricey — around $ 15 for a cocktail. We got the West End Fix(really light & fruity & refreshing) and the Tanqueray and TomR’s Tonic. Both drinks were very strong. Make sure to snap a picture in the copper tub!

Amazing ambiance! But most intriguing is their entrance. First you walk into a ordinary looking coffee shop and soon you will realize that there’s a «hidden door». The door looks like part of the coffee shop wall, but you swing it open and voila there’s a bar behind the coffee shop. There is actually a bathtub for the cabaret show, so make sure to take a picture in it ;)

First time I ever been to a burlesque show and I must say it was a hell of a first impression. Only ordered fries and fried calamari since I was on a full stomach and no complaints with it. Also had two Gin drinks which were very different considering I’m more of a cognac guy. No complaints with the drinks either. The girls were sexy and entertaining so I definitely recommend the show. I did leave feeling bad because I had no cash and since I had no idea what to expect, I didn’t have any cash for the performers whom definitely deserved it. Aside of that, wonderful experience.

Came here on a Tuesday night at 12am. Place was pretty packed, but no wait for us to get seated. I like the free coat check as well. Service is a little slow. It took us a while to get seated. Ordered the Magnetic Island, which was ok. Good date spot. Good place for gin choices.

Cool spot behind secret entrance through coffeeshop, can get really crowded, I would recommend to make a reservation. Looks like a cool romantic spot with live music

Although overpriced($ 17 drinks!!) I am quite a fan of their cocktails. I”ve been here twice and ordered the same thing — the green tea almond milk gin… thing. It was delicious, and I have yet to try anything like it anywhere. For that drink alone, I will definitely return. I also managed to climb into the one copper bathtub in the middle of the bar and snap a quick picture. I actually expected more tubs. Also, bathrooms are unisex.

Have given this 4 stars but would definitely go back and give it another go and think it could end up 5. We turned up at 7pm on a Thursday without a reservation and the hostess was happy to seat us at one of the reserved tables that wasn’t going to be filled for a little while(we just wanted a quick drink before dinner). I’ve been to a few speakeasy type places and I think this one did the ‘hidden door’ thing better than most. It was impressively large when you got in, and the coffee shop smelled great — after an evening there a coffee on the way home sounds pretty good! We were seated at one of the round tables by the bar which was very cramped due to all the people sitting along the bench, my husband had to stand in the end. But we had a table so we were happy! We had the table-side gin martini which was absolutely delicious. Very smooth and easy to drink — and dangerous because of it! I would like to come back with friends and get one of the larger tables or booths in the back and work my way through more of their menu.

Seems I’m in the minority here, but this place is just«a-ok», as per the 3-star description in Unilocal.I get it– it’s inside a coffee shop: big whoop, as are many other speakeasies located inside a quirky, ironic place. On a Wednesday, managed to snag a rez for 8:15 for a Saturday night. Not sure why so difficult to get rez. The Drinks list was robust, very creative, and appropriately strong. I thought the price was in line with other speakeasies. We also had food — I got the sliders and fries, and my friend got the burger. We were both happy — but this a’int no gourmet dining experience. We were told that they only hold the table for 15 mins past rez — okay, that’s fair. And we were continuously reminded that use of the table is strictly limited to two hours — reminded before our arrival, and several times during our not-to-exceed two-hour visit to this place. When we left, there was a line of people waiting to get in. All I could do was scratch my head and wonder what all the fuss is about. Yes — the drinks are some of the most amaze-balls I’ve had in a very long time, but not to wait in a long line to get the experience. Come early(i.e., before 10), don’t wait in line, stand at the bar, and enjoy a drink. Then go elsewhere.

We visited Bathtub Gin as part of a speakeasy tour and it was the highlight of our night! Hidden behind Stone Street coffee shop, it’s like going back in time when you enter this beautiful bar. There’s a bar with some seating, as well as lots of high tops and booths. We were there around opening so it was slow and easy to find a seat. Drinks are standard price for this sort of experience(most are $ 15) and have something for everyone… with gin drinks being the most popular. I enjoyed the punch, which the bartender recommended when I described the sort of drink I liked. You can even take a picture in their huge bath tub(hence the name… during prohibition they supposedly made gin in bathtubs!) Perfect place to take visitors for a cool NYC experience!

What’s not to love? This is a little speakeasy gem hidden behind a coffee storefront. Once you make your way behind the storefront, it opens up into a small yet inviting bar. There are about 8 tables that line the walls. Music — good, vibe — good, craft cocktails — good. We danced until about 4am. And bonus, the bathub in the middle of the bar where you can take all kinds of pics of celebrating the night. Fun place!

I thought the idea of the speakeasy hidden behind a fully functioning coffee shop is a cute idea and I appreciate their enthusiasm for creating a more realistic experience. The only thing that makes it unrealistic is the crowd of people and bouncer standing outside the coffee shop at 10pm on a weekend night, but that’s ok, it’s bound to happen. The atmosphere inside is so quaint and their cocktail menu is very robust! The waitress who served us was also really knowledgable and helped suggest cocktails my group would like based on our tastes, as well as tipping of my boyfriend-a scotch lover-to some rare types of scotch they serve which aren’t on the menu. So if you want a unique drink all you need to do is ask! The drinks are a little pricey but what you would expect in meat packing. Overall a nice experience at bathtub gin.

Loved the vib. Busy noisy and the three bartenders were rocking it out. Fords gin for a gin & tonic. For my second round, asking for something with Hendricks, my bartender did a variation on a French 75 which was very nice. I love this bar.

My friend and I came here for early evening drinks. She’s from England and so I was trying to demonstrate the whole ‘speakeasy’ thing to her. It definitely delivered on that! It’s pretty cool how you walk into a coffee shop, through a back door into this amazing space. We visited shortly after opening so it wasn’t too busy and we were able to get a table. Service was lacking a bit, once we were through the door into the bar nobody greeted us, we had to check our own coats and nobody advised us where to sit. When we approached the group of servers stood together chatting we were advised to go back out the door into the coffee shop to speak with the lady there as to where we could sit??! Once we spoke with her we got a table and settled in for our drinks. The first drink I tried to order they were out of one of the ingredients so I had to choose something else. We ordered a cocktail and special gin & tonic and relaxed. The bar soon filled up and it looked as though most areas were reserved, so if you are set on going I would recommend booking. I loved the general 1920’s décor of the bar and the bathroom sinks are funky! On Mondays they have a singer and on Tuesday, burlesque. They also do a weekend brunch as well, which I wasn’t aware of where they have jazz. Although it was off to a rocky start, I enjoyed my time at Bathtub Gin and will continue to visit.

Used to be a really good bar, but has gone down hill fast. My friend was assaulted at the bar, security did nothing about it — really lets the place down.

Not a fan. Very very overrated. I like speakeasy bars, they’re usually very fun, but this is not one of them. First off, the drinks here are expensive. They’re at least $ 15 a pop. The drinks are way too strong, so I guess it’s good I’m getting more bang for my buck, but I’d also like something that tastes good. The drinks here just didn’t do it for me. I also hate how dim it is. I can barely see the menu, I have to use my phone brightness in order to see it properly. In addition, the service is almost nonexistent. The waitress barely came around the two hours I spent there. I would’ve ordered more drinks, but since I could never find her, I wasn’t able to. Definitely won’t be back here again.

This was our first stop Halloween night 2015. We got there fairly early — about 10:15, so the wait was less than 5 minutes. But, when we walked through the doors, the place was packed. We did find some standing room by the bathtub, so it was nice not to jostle with everyone standing by the bar. It was a good mix of people who were super dressed up in costumes and people who were trying to eat a regular dinner. As for drinks, the first gin-based drink was delicious — it was something with ginger. The second drink was a complete 180 — the Elk’s *something* was also gin and also had ginger, but according to the hubby, it tasted like fajitas. I’d carefully read the description of each drink to make sure you know what you’re getting into.

Very nice and low key speakeasy. Dim interior and long line out the door. This is where I met Ron Weasley(Rupert Grint, for all you muggles) last year, and I have since heard this place is frequented by celebs.

Not bad… but too long of a wait for another crowded speakeasy. Of course it’s a neat concept and the interior is dark and funky. A few good things… Easy coat check when you first walk in and here’s a tip… be nice to the bouncer and he’ll set you up with a table if you have a group of 3 – 4(we had 5 and he got us a table right away.) The good thing about a table is you have a waitress instead of waiting at he bar forever. Plus there’s really no where to sit in the place except for the tables. The drinks were a lot to be desired, I had some sort of punch something it was disgusting. Just be careful of the many many ingredients in each drink when ordering. You’ll wait on line after 11:00pm to get in here on a Friday or Saturday — Saturday for sure. Even though you’ll wait it’s a good place to come later at night and is still very crowded by 2:00am. Also, was there on a Saturday night and the DJ was really great!

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars If you were watching me from the sidewalk yesterday, you would be watching me walk back and forth in front of a coffee shop in absolute confusion. Then the bouncer finally stepped in front of me and said«THISISTHEBAR.» Ambiance is awesome. It is the best thing that Bathtub Gin has going for it. It’s a great place to grab a drink with a friend or a date. If you’re looking to impress someone with how cool you are, this is definitely a solid option on the West Side. The cocktails — average. If you’re looking for a good gin cocktail, I would recommend the Winslow a little more. We got a Ramos gin fizz and Mary’s cocktail. It was better made than you would get at a bar not focused on gin but there wasn’t anything standout. I recommend BG for the ambiance more than anything. It’s a cool spot but if you’re looking for extremely well made cocktails, they are not here.

Another classic Speakeasy in NYC. This is a perfect place to check out if Raines Law Room is packed since it’s a 10 minute walk from Raines. The entrance of Bathtub Gin is through a coffee shop and once you enter you are transported to the glitz and glamor of the ‘20s Gatsby-esque prohibition Speakeasy.(If Gatsby decided to have a bathtub in the middle of his dance floor) I suggest coming on a weekday because like most speakeasies in NYC, this place is overrun with people and at times a line down the block on weekends. Don’t bother making a reservation because on weekdays it is not usually packed to the point where they will not accept walk-ins. Also on weekends the place turns into a semi-club with dance music and a DJ. On weekdays, its more of a cocktail bar where you can grab a drink and have a convo. On select nights they have burlesque which I have been meaning to check out. I guess that’s what the pole in the middle of the bathtub is for. That or the drunk girls that turn up to party to the beats of the DJ spinning on the weekends.

A speakeasy hidden inside a coffee bar, Bathtub Gin is a purveyer of fine gins and gin-based cocktails. What sets them apart is that they offer standing room in addition to regular table service, something that is often missing at other cocktail bars. They also have a few pages dedicated to non-gin drinks, something that will relieve most nervous non-gin drinkers when hearing the name of this establishment. The lack of a wait is pretty nice for a cocktail bar, but when we asked to be seated, they squeezed the three of us into a tiny two person table. This was fine, but when the neighboring tables left, they simply placed«Reserved» signs on top of the tables without offering us the extra room. I doubt there would be people coming in at 2 am on a Sunday evening, and a quick request to expand our table was met with little resistance(or even checking the reservation computers). How about the drinks, you may ask? We ordered three gin cocktails; two were pretty good and one was bad. The gin martini was barely drinkable by my friend — she left it untouched, and our server didn’t even ask her why. Overall, the other drinks were OK but maybe not worth $ 15 per cocktail(and mine was somewhat small as well).

Okay I get it, speakeasy is cool when you walk through an unassuming door and Narnia just opens up to you. With that being said, when there’s a long-as* line formed up in front of a coffee shop at 11 pm with people dressed like Mr. Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, it’s not too hard to figure out what’s behind that door. We waited for almost half an hour, with so many people just coming in and out, cutting us right through. The bouncer was alright, not a word more, not a word less. Want to get a drink at the bar? Good luck. They have a cool cocktail menu but most people just go with the classics because the amount of time you have with the bartender is more precious than seeing the Pope at Madison Square park. The bathtub was cool, you can sit around it but no showers allowed. I’d go back again for a date, and if it goes well we might end up in the bathtub.

I always enjoy walking through coffee shops to get right into a burlesque-showing, speak-easy kinda joint… This was probably one of the more interesting speak-easy places I have been to in recent memory and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Chelsea area. You walk in and on the left there is a bar with tables on the right(it does get a bit tight and loud). Once you make it through there alive, the area after the bar becomes a bit more ‘private,’ but not by much. You are able to reserve tables in advance which I would do, but you still deal with people walking by any which way you could imagine which is a bit annoying but I still think necessary and worth it. Overall, the waitress was friendly and attentive, the drinks were reasonably priced and they did have a nice assortment of cocktails to choose from. Unfortunately there was no show when I was there, but I would like to come back for one to check it out. Enjoy.

Such a cute speakeasy! Visited this place over 4th of July weekend and I absolutely loved it here! The front is a façade of a coffee shop and when you enter through, you’ll find yourself to be in a very dimly lit bar with booths and tables lining the walls and a huge bathtub in the center. Of course, my friends and I all sat in the bathtub to take a pic! –that’s what it’s there for! The décor was fabulous, service was good, drinks were boozy and a good variety, place was open late. Crowd was friendly and diverse ethnic backgrounds. Place is very loud– with DJ playing music and chatter. There wasn’t much of a line outside the door to get in, nor did we have trouble with the doorman. I’d definitely visit here again –if I lived in NYC.
