DONOTORDERFROMHERE! Never have I dealt with a more incompetent and unprofessional establishment, never ordering from them again. After not delivering our food for over an hour, we called to check in and they tell us if we want our food we have to come pick it up… uh we paid for a delivery… we tried to cancel the order and they refused to give us our money back, stay away!

Got the mofongo but it wasn’t too great — I know it’s supposed to be dry and you pour the gravy over everything but even so there were chunks of bone and bits in the pork mofongo. Also when I went to pick up the food after ordering through Grubhub, they claimed that I hadn’t paid yet until they called up to check about the order. I’m sure this place’s other stuff is great from what I saw from the counter, but I wouldn’t go for the mofongo.

Ordered paella. You have to talk to the waitress who actually can speak English. And you need to pay cash to get a $ 5 discount. I would recommend tropical sensation’s paella rather than this cuz the ingredients there are much more.

Save your time and money. Go down the block to Tropical Sensation instead. I ordered from here after receiving a menu under my door, decided to give it a shot and boy did I regret it afterward. When I called to place my order it was extremely loud and I was placed on hold for a little over 5 mins, finally placed my order –rather simple and basic. However when she gave me my total it was a little over from the amount I was reading off the menu. She called over the owner who apologized for the misprint on the menu I had and agreed to give me the price I had, which I thought was nice. She promised my food would be over in 15 mins… over and hour later she calls me back yelling asking for my building and apt number because the delivery guy couldn’t find my house. Poor guy came huffing and puffing saying he had been walking up and down the block because she had written down the wrong address for him and he showed me the receipt to prove it. Food was less than mediocre in terms of taste and of course it arrived cold. I’m Dominican so I know what my people’s staple dishes are suppose to taste like — this wasn’t it.

Great place! Great food and everyone there is very friendly! I was very pleased with it all. There aren’t a lot of tables, maybe five — two tops at most. We managed to get my family of five in comfortably though. Definitely going back.

#1.) Do not order delivery. #2.) Do not come to eat here if loud spanish-speaking/yelling bothers you. #3.) Do not come here if old spanish men drinking beer bothers you. Food is delicious, CHEAP, and filling! Beers are cheap.

Locals only type of spot. The food is okish and cheap, but the service is not very good. Additionally, it is really loud, and the patrons like to have loud, yelling conversations across the restaurant with each other and the staff. I think the authenticity factor here is pretty high, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Got beef stew on rice. Simple and delicious. A real positive is that they serve«lunch» prices way after lunch time. I went at 5pm and was still able to order the lunch price which is smaller but half the price.

Just ordered from here and OmG was the food bad. First off when I called to place the order it was really noisy loud bachata playing in the background. The girl who answered put me on hold and started singing really loud into the phone. Then once she finished singing she said«I’m ready»… Should’ve taken that as a REDFLAG! Anyways, everything was oily. Then the baked chicken we ordered was just disgusting. Even my kids didn’t eat their food said it was nasty and told me don’t order from here ever again. Awful food and I’m Puerto Rican so I know how my food is suppose to taste and this definitely wasn’t it!

Great and cheap cheese empanadas. The spaghetti also tasty. Good meatless options including cheese mofongo which wasn’t bad.

My mouth was fixed for some authentic Spanish food. Saw stew chicken on El Rey de la Caridad and ordered it for $ 8 but unfortunately they ran out of it so I placed my order with this spot which ended up being about $ 12. I went out of my way to pick this up and haul it to Brooklyn. Restaurant is extremely tiny but wasn’t relevant since I was taking out. I wanted to eat a little before I left but decided against it. Wish I would’ve. I obediently sat still without touching my food the whole train ride. Smelled lovely. I got home and removed all contents of the bag to find out that I was given white rice… White rice… White rice should be a substitute, not the default. I was so mad. I really wanted yellow rice. I looked at the white rice for 5 seconds before I said fugg it and dug in. I enjoyed the chicken very much. It was very tasty, just too many bones, too much gristle and way too fatty. I needed that yellow rice. Now I know for future reference to ALWAYS ask for yellow rice. Always!

This is simple. If you want absolutely delicious(Spanish) Dominican food come to this cozy restaurant. The portions are hearty and the staff friendly. Plus the prices are very reasonable. Acosta Restaurant is also family owned and they make you feel at home. Yes, they also deliver. 5 Star Rating!

Hello kids its me again, you favorite universal Asian, Karl P. Check this out, I cringe every time I see people eating Spanish or Cuban at… havana u know what. What you’ll get is a bad meal and«No havana money afterwards» for drinks or dessert. Onwards to the review… It doesn’t get any better when it’s time to eat something so damn good and so damn cheap. Get off of eating on Broadway! This is amazing. Get your Dominican grub on, and sit at the counter drooling at all the stuff freshly made behind the counter. ¾ of the time I don’t know what I’m eating but it’s damn tasty. Café con Leche here is like liquid sugary crack that destroys many coffee pubs(STARBUCKS) at twice the price. Average tab for one person, $ 7 – 8. That’s right. Be prepared for the ‘itis because after a heaping plate of rice and beans plus whatever carbs and meat you’ll be stuffing down, you’ll definitely need A) 3 – 4 café con leches or b). a nap to recover an amazing meal at Acosta. Highly recommended if you’re broke, hungry and adventurous, not recommended if you have to study or operate heavy machinery afterwards. Don’t worry if your English isn’t good, or having to do the Pseudo-spanish thing to get your order across. Just point and smile. See u there.

A rustic diner place with just a handful of seats but big on meat. Lots of different meat dishes. A regular order of roast chicken includes a big plate of rice, a chicken leg, and some beans just for $ 6. Interesting people patronize this place. I saw a man in cowboy boots and a fedora.

I love this place. I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve tried here which includes soups, rice/beans, chicken stew, goat, mofongo, roast pork, pastelitos. Only thing that I don’t particularly like is the fried pork(chicharron) because it’s quite dry and difficult to eat.

Tiny diner serving working class Dominican food. By tiny, I mean a five-seat counter and a pair of little tables for two. By Dominican food, I mean PORK. Lots and lots of pork. And rice, and beans. Portions to stay are generous, and the amount of stuff they shovel into the take-out containers is just jaw-dropping. The regular clientele here certainly isn’t Canadian amateur street photographers on vacation, and I doubt the taxi drivers, stockboys, and cleaning ladies who get their lunches here have a clue that there’s a subset of foodiedom that actively hunts down and cherishes the simple, hearty, and completely unaffected truck driver’s food that places like this serve. But it’s precisely why I’ve been in here three or four times. The chunks of pork with red beans and brown rice will fuel you for a day of walking through Central Park or Morningside Heights, and the Cuban sandwich(the Dominican take on it does not seem to include the dill pickle) makes a damn nice late breakfast, if you’re envisioning a long day of holiday visiting in the UWS. Both are delicious. Restroom is cramped, but usable. If you’re looking for simple, tasty, and utterly cheap food in a genuine diner on the UWS, and if you think you can handle the heaviness of working-class Dominican cuisine, make a point of finding this place.

I had a huge craving for chicken, so I was glad I gave this tiny lunch counter restaurant a chance. I’m glad I finally tried Acosta, and can’t wait to go back to try other things from the menu. My order of baked chicken over rice with black beans was good, if just a bit dry. But the rice with a soda was just $ 6, so I can’t complain.

OK, I get it now. I used to think Acosta was all about the empanadas. But on second thought, it’s really about the simple, delicious«comida Dominicana.» I popped in for dinner recently and grabbed one of the four stools at the counter. The All-Star Game was playing on the flat screen, which is about half the size of this tiny joint. Not quite sure what to order, I opted for the chicken with rice and beans, and was presented with a heaping plate with two pieces of pollo guisado, along with arroz y frijoles. The food wasn’t spectacular but it did taste like someone cooked it in their home. Just like Momma used to make, ya know what I mean. This is also the kind of place where you can practice your Spanish. I struck up a conversation with the Uruguayan dude sitting next to me. I told him I thought the empanadas here were pretty good. Mr Uruguay shook his head. «No,» he said, speaking as someone born in a country where empanadas are a birthright, like pizza in New York. «You must try the pernil. Here take a bite of mine.» I respectfully declined but damn if that pernil — which was pulled from a pork butt displayed in a pan right inside the window — didn’t look amazing. I wanted to take that bite, but I held back. (It’s worth noting that Mr Uruguay’s wife was highly annoying — Don’t grab my book without asking biach — Who lives in NY and marries a South American and can’t speak a word in Spanish? WTF is that all about?) Best of all? My tab for chicken, rice, beans AND a Presidente was only $ 8.50. I’ll be back for some of that Pernil.
