Lai Lai Brothers is combined to Lai Lai Garden in Blue Bell, and they still service Szechuan food as usual.

We were getting some groceries next door at Assi and decided to stop in to grab takeout because I really really wanted lamb and didn’t feel like setting up the wok outside when it was drizzling. We ordered the cumin lamb, spicy boiled fish fillet, and shredded beef with hot pepper, accompanied by the chilli beef tripe and tendon cold appetizer. I also prepared a fresh steamed live flounder from Assi at home. The cumin lamb was flavorful and moderately spicy, but the lamb itself was just slightly tough and a little leaner than I tend to like. The seasoning did complement the mild, rich lamb meat well, though. The water-boiled mala fish was very spicy and the fish was tender; it was hard to discern the true seasoning over the spiciness but that’s kinda the point. The color of the hot oil was a beautiful, vivid red. Not bad! The shredded beef with hot pepper was just okay: the beef shreds were slightly tough and sliced thicker than that in the same dish in any Chinatown Szechuan restaurant, but the seasoning was tasty. I didn’t really like the beef tendon and tripe, mostly because I wasn’t a fan of the slightly tart vinaigrette. I tend to like my tripe and tendon marinated in good, old, plain chilli oil. Everything was ready for us by the time we finished our grocery run, and packed well with plenty of silverware and condiments, along with rice. Overall, the dishes’ flavors were tasty and decently authentic. If you are getting takeout and don’t want to overdo the spiciness in a meal, I highly recommend picking up a mild, live fish next door and steaming it with a drizzle of sesame oil and soy sauce to help establish a balance(with a few scallions and cilantro sprigs). The flounder was great for serving that purpose. 3 stars for now and will report back after dining in.

summary … good and surprisingly classy Chinese food, get the Szechuan stuff Lai Lai Brothers is like an upscale Chinese restaurant without the upscale prices. The food is pretty good(our personal favorites are the Szechuan items like the Chicken with Dry Hot Red Pepper, Szechuan Shrimp and Chicken, and Szechuan Beef Soup(not sure of the exact names of these, but they have them on an «authentic» menu)). The soups and appetizers are so so, I guess I’m spoiled by going to Han Dynasty. Also, definitely skip the Korean stuff(go to Korean Koko BBQ next door instead), it’s nothing special. Service has always been awesome, the waitstaff(and there always seem to be 2x as many as at a normal restaurant) are friendly and VERY attentive. They also are always amused that a non-native orders their spiciest items(and then asks them to make them extra spicy) and they always stand off to the side and(politely) watch with amazement while I eat. I’ve also tried a bit of the standard Americanized Chinese fare and it’s pretty respectable. It’s never been my favorite(like the standard lo meins, fried rice dishes, etc) but they do it nicely here. My recommendation, stick with the authentic stuff. It’s way better … and authentic-er. Yeah, that’s now a word.

I came here once for dinner. Like most Chinese restaurants, they give you pretty big portions so you can eat family style. Everything we ordered, I thought was really good. Our dishes included soup, vegetables, meat, and fish. The only thing that has kept me from going back is needing more people to get a larger variety of dishes!

I have been there once for lunch and I really enjoyed it. I don’t like spicy food and there are a plenty of dishes I can choose from that are not that spicy. They also have lunch specials which includes an entry and soup. The dish I got was lamb with cilantro and it was delicious. The portion is pretty big and good for two meals. I would definitely go back there again to try out other things. By the way, they now offer hot pot in winter too!

I’ve been to Lai Lai Brothers twice and both fiery experiences were awesome. I love Szechuan food and can’t get enough of the numbing peppers. Beware folks, some of these dishes pack serious heat. If you’re not into fire eating, like I am, then I’d choose wisely and order plenty of rice. For those of you who can handle the heat, here are my favs: Sliced fish filet w/hot sauce Dry sauteed string bean Sliced chicken w/roasted chili vinaigrette Also, this place is a BYOB, so if you want some adult beverages, make sure to bring your own!

Loved this place. Had a great time with a large group this evening. First, I’ve never had it before, but they had this scallion pancake which was good. A little on the bland side, but good with some hot sauce. Then I had the crispy braised tofu which was really good. Awesome crispy yet flavorful. The vegetable lo mein was good too. Haven’t stuff myself on Chinese food since Chinatown in San Fran. The server started out kind of strange, but seemed to warm up to our group over time.

Jjangmyung() is good. For those who remember the original jjm from their location on 5th street, it’s back! Ask for an extra serving of noodles to stretch out the sauce. And don’t wear light clothing. I highly recommend the kungpao chicken served Schezuan(Chinese) style. At least two types of peppers, peanuts and cubed chicken is magically delicious.

After reading a review a previously left by someone stating how great their jajangmyun was I decided to give this place a try. Fast and friendly service, but… The jajangmyun was simply ok and the noodles used on the dish were totally wrong. Low mein noodles were used and this compromised the over all taste because everyone knows the myun is the most important part of this dish. The only reason I’m giving them 3 stars is due to the tangsuyuk dish. It was one of the best I’ve tasted outside of Korea in this area. In my honest opinion you’re better off just going around the corner to Assisi for jajangmyun, but just for the tangsuyuk I’ll have to come back and try the jampong.

My family loves this restaurant. We eat here at least once a month, mostly for dinner. We have also had private parties here, they have a large room available and two small rooms with a single large table in each. The food is delicious, and we have always been pleased with the portions and the price. We don’t live within the delivery area, so I can’t speak to that aspect, but it says something that we drive several miles, past several other Asian restaurants, to eat at this one. I recommend asking for the picture menu to see some of the more exotic offerings. And I’m told that the Korean/Chinese menu is the real deal; I just know its delicious. The service has always been top notch and our family has gotten to know the owners and staff over our years as customers. They always make us feel at home. They have a liquor license and drink specials in the early evening. *This review was submitted by my brother. It was his first review and was filtered because he is not a frequent reviewer. I can verify everything that he submitted in the review! I highly recommend Lai Lai.

If you’re looking for real Chinese Szechuan(ie Spicy) Food then this is the right place to go. Most of the«Chinese» restaurant around is either take-out or American Chinese food, so it’s nice to have some authentic Chinese cuisine. Food is good, atmosphere is nice and the staff is really friendly. Best of all, it’s right next to Assi so you can do some grocery shopping at one of the biggest and cleanest Asian Supermarket around.

I’ve eaten here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner, and enjoyed it both times. The food is much more traditional Chinese, not your cookie-cutter standard Chinese menu, which is a nice change. The service was good, the prices were reasonable.

Food is good but pricey. I got take out and the delivery was very long. Overall, I think that eating in is your best option.

Philadelphia has always lacked a real good Jja-jang Myun restaurant. There is one on Castor and one on 5th in NE Philly, but I think Tae Hwa Gwan is closed due to selling booze to minors! There’s another option in Upper Darby behind HMart but I haven’t heard good things about it. For Koreans who live in the burbs and don’t feel like making the hike to NE Philly, this is a good option to grab Jam-Pong, Jja-Jang, Tang-su Yook, Gang-pung gi and all of the rest of our beloved Chinese/Korean food! The portions are a bit smaller, I would definitely get the go-baek-ee next time around and you won’t get any kimchi, just dakwon and onions. The place is owned by Lai Lai down DeKalb Pike.
