The best traditional old style Jersey pizza place in the area. The linquine with clams is really good. And the Grandma’s pizza is awesome. Excellent place for a quick food stop.

If you want mediocre pizza or Italian food this place will suit you fine. Otherwise I would look elsewhere or heat up an Ellio’s pizza.

The food is mediocre at best. However their lack of personality and customer service skills is enough to keep me out of this place for the rest of my life! It is unbelievable that any business can be this rude to customers!!!

The food is gross. The servers are incompetent. There is zero ambiance. Most of the staff are nasty and rude. Boil a hot dog at home. You’ll have a MUCH better dinner.

The pizza here is some of the best we have had in New Jersey. The main guy who makes the pizza came here from Portofino’s when it closed, which used to be our favorite place. He is from Italy and makes very authentic tasting pizza. He is also super nice. This is the only pizza place around here that does sausage right on pizza(sizable chunks with fennel, not flat slices or tiny crumbles). What is it with most Jersey pizza places and their abysmal sausage?! We also like their pasta dishes(fettuccine Alfredo is way better than Bertuccci’s), soups, and garlic bread. Yes, the owner is annoyingly loud and intrusive. We got around that by buying a pizza bag and taking the pizza home to eat. It is a shame, though, because the dining room looks nicely decorated.

This place is hit or miss. when it hits, excellent tasting food. The inside is very nice, not your average pizza restaurant. However, when this place misses it can leave a real stain. The staff can be rude, unfriendly, and just really creepy. The food can taste like its been there left from the night before.

Wow did this place go downhill since I lived in the area! Ordered a chicken Francaise dinner and it came presented to me with 3HALF pieces of boneless chicken. That’s right, cut pieces on a dinner plate like someone’s leftovers. Not only was this not a proper serving portion for a supposed dinner, it was as unappetizing as you can get. When the manager was told he apologized and offered to make me a new dinner which I refused since we were starved and the rest of my party was eating. He didn’t take money off the bill nor did he offer dessert or anything else. Food was eh, it’s a pizza place in central nj and that’s what it tastes like… Keep it

I have been here before and it was a solid meal that one time. There is a pizza section in the front and the dining room in the back. The service was pleasant and the food came out in a timely matter. This place is also a BYO. For an appetizer, broccoli rabe with Italian sausage and roasted peppers($ 10.50) was ordered. It was a special they were having. It was a solid start to a disappointing meal. The broccoli was extraordinary and was not too bitter. The sausage was average at best, a little bland. The roasted red peppers were of good quality, but I prefer to eat them cold. This was one of the few times I had them warm. I ordered the chicken parmesan with vodka sauce($ 16.50). It was a special for that night. I had never seen this before so I thought to give it a go. I rarely order chicken parmesan or vodka sauce in a restaurant. It also came with a salad. The salad was a typical garden salad. There were no complaints regarding that. The main entrée was a different story. The vodka sauce itself was very good to my surprise. I had to add some red peppers to give it a kick, but it was solid nonetheless. The chicken, however, was terrible. It had a weird taste to it. The portion was good, but not the taste. I can’t describe it. It could have just been bad pieces of chicken. I did not get sick so there’s that. I am not too sure, but it was not good and ruined my meal. The pasta that was served with the meal was tasty and not over or under cooked. I also tried the Veal Rosso Pomodoro. It was not bad. The meat was a little tough and I did not think the salami within the dish was a good complement. The sauce made this dish acceptable. Will I go back? I will to experience the pizza.

It was OK. I thought that $ 6.75 for 2 plain slices and a can of Coke was high especially with so many places having a 2 slice/soda $ 5 special. The counterman who took my order was pleasant enough but the older guy who took my slices out of the oven was a little too loud for my taste. As for the pizza itself, the sauce was very tasty. However, it could have used more cheese and the crust was much too thin for me as I like to pick up my slice without necessarily folding it over. This one had to be folded in order to hold up to eat.
The seating area is nice enough. .

Great pizza! Haven’t had anything else, but their pizza is fantastic! I don’t order from here enough but whatever I do I’m never disappointed.

This is my new jobs pizza spot. We ordered a plain pie and a sausage pie on my second day and both were really good. My new boss knows how to order pizza so when he said«Well Done» it came perfectly well done. Nice. Also I’d like to say the cheese to sauce ration was perfect. The sausage is the fresh crumbles of uncased sausage which I prefer over sliced links of sausage as a topping. The flavor really cooks into the whole pie. I can’t write too much based on only having two slices, but I do look forward to some more. Let’s see how they do a Sicilian. Price: When I looked at the menu I must say the pies were just a buck or 2 more then I feel like they should be, but sometimes that’s the cost of Quality. Service: My associates only say one word when they are deciding what to order…“Nazi?” Supposedly the customer service is equal to that of the… you guessed it… Soup Nazi! Sometimes you gotta take a lickin’ to get your grub. I will Return.

Good food but non existent service cause apparently, it’s a sin to show up 15 min after they open.

Owner was complaining about everything behind counter and sounded like a complete idiot while he should have been putting time and effort into making a pizza that didn’t taste like cheap ingredients on cardboard. Will definitely not be returning.

For what is it the place has some good food. The pizza is the tops esp the Sicilian. I also recommend the chicken parm and chicken franchaise. I usually get my food to go or just sit in the non restaurant side. If the owner was so loud and douchey I’d go 5 stars. Not sure what his deal is or why hasn’t anybody knocked his block off yet.

«Rossopomodoro», or «Red Tomato», is true to its namesake. Tucked away in a busy strip mall, nevertheless this is not your typical«NJ Strip mall» pizza place. When you walk in, the space has been neatly transformed into a trattoria, complete with rustic tiled roofs, exposed brickwork and painted ivy. It may be located in a Jersey strip mall, but the pizza is far more traditional, with a thin, Brooklyn style crust. The sauce, made uncooked until put on a pie, is definitely not Jersey style, instead with a nice sharp acid tang of fresh tomatoes, no artificial sweetness, and a minimum of garlic and oil, so the fresh tomato taste predominates. Toppings are generous, but not overwhelming. Cheese is top quality, either fresh or shredded mozzarella depending on the pie. The crust is good — not great, but good. Traditional style pizzas are their strong suit, but special praise for their Grandma pie. This is something that is increasingly common, everyone seems to have their one variation on the theme, but these guys really know how to rock a Grandma pie. Just sayin’. They also serve a variety of Italian dishes which I can’t vouch for(we usually stick with the pizzas) but the sights and sounds certainly seem good. The service is definitely old school, the owner does come across as a little grumpy at times but don’t take it personally, it’s just how he is. It’s a family business, so there’s usually a little yelling involved … Think of it as entertainment!

I have been coming to RossoPomodoro for over 20 years(back when it was Atillios and yes, it is still the same owner) and I have always been a fan of their food. I am going to give an overall review on what to get from my experience eating here over the years and then rate my experience there last night: Pizza — that is the strong point and the best item on the menus. 1) Traditional large pizza is fantastic. Gooey, stretchy cheese with a sweet and tangy tomato sauce(one of the best that I have ever had). 2) Margherita pizza — again, fantastic. The mozzarella is fresh and spread throughout the pie and again, when paired with their fantastic sauce, it is out of this world. I wish that the mozzarella was a little bit thicker, but all in all this is a great pie. 3) Grandma pizza — WINNER, WINNERPIZZADINNER!!! I feel that this is their best pie and it is your traditional grandma slice which is a thin crust square with mozzarella, sauce and basil. Straight forward and clean. I have never been to Sicily but it makes you feel like you are there 4) Sicilian pizza — this was one of my favorites but not so much anymore. It has gotten heavier and in my opinion a little too thick throughout the years. It’s not bad, just not up to par with the rest of their great pizza. Entrees and Pasta: I heavily recommend the Veal Francese(which I had last night), Veal Parmigana or the Veal Marsala(or chicken with each of these). The strength of all of these dishes is that they are all breaded and cooked perfectly and the sauces are UNREAL. The francese is ultra-lemony/buttery, the masala wine sauce always has the right amount of flavor and the parmigana again has that awesome sweet and tangy sauce. Yes, the service is slow. You WILL wait regardless of whether you sit in the front part which is more«serve/seat» yourself or even in the dining room in the back. That’s just the«Atillios/Rossopomodoro» way. I think that it is because they are normally understaffed in terms of the servers. Also, DON’T COMELATETOEAT. You WILL get rushed out. Just, again, the way that it is here. The waitress stood over me until I finished my last bite last night and it was only 9:20pm!!! Rossopomodoro is what it is… fantastic pizza, pasta, and veal and chicken dishes. JUSTGETTHEFOODTOGO!!!

Veal hero for $ 10 with mozzarella and roasted red peppers and basil w/balsamic is fairly fresh and tasty decent portion. Okay deal but no wow and I was not blown away by any means and no refill fountain sodas @ $ 2. No service at all in fact you have to get your own utensils, they do clear the table for you? The décor is old Italian entire wall paper throughout. Doesn’t seem to be a date destination. Appears to be Italian owned and run which is a plus for Italian eatery. I’d probably come back to try some of the good looking specialty pizzas and some pasta with a lil red sauce/gravy, but at this point I am not blown away so I won’t run back. I reserve future updates after a 2nd visit but for now a decent 3. BYOB!

Cute little Italian restaurant on a Rt. 1 Strip Mall. It’s BYOB so make sure you bring a bottle of red to go with your lovely Italian meal. Portions are huge here, but not overwhelming. We had a Margarita Pizza for«appetizer» and I had Pasta Pomodoro. My husband had an order of sausage on the side. Heehee. Pasta was good, nothing to write home about. I did enjoy their pizza. It wasn’t oily. It was thin and flavorful. They were busy on a Friday night, but our waitress was attentive. Skip dessert. Nothing special. Restaurant is typical Italian décor. I’ll be back for the pizza!
