Rye/sour dough bread —— delicious!!! Small overall selection for a bakery, but we love the fresh bread. Dunno about the café. Haven’t eaten there yet.

Theis German Bakery shares a space within the Fork and Spoon. I couldn’t help browse all the baked goodies they had to offer while waiting for my party to be seated at Fork and Spoon. Strudel, rolls, pretzels, cakes, breads, fruit pastries, they have a little bit of everything. I am a huge fan of their Italian wedding cake. It has at least 3 layers and is not light on the the nuts. The icing is to die for and the slices are massive. It is hard for me to not stop by, especially when I’m in the area, to pick up a pretzel… or 5. Check them out and hit up Fork and Spoon afterward for some eats. Pick me up a pretzel while you’re at it!

First thing, this restaurant is not German. The excellent bakery is German but the restaurant menu is not, except for a couple of items. If you want a German meal, go to Freisenhaus. That said, it is a pleasant restaurant, although our server obviously had more important things on her mind than our table. Attractive hill country décor. Ladies restroom had half the lightbulbs burned out. I ordered fresh orange juice(good) and a vegetable plate(good) with hollandaise sauce(not good, runny and dull). Note this is a Southern veg plate, which means there is bacon in the green beans. I picked out a very tasty crunchy crusted roll from the bakery case up front to have with my dish. DH ordered a schnitzel sandwich, which was OK. Coffee was good. The biggest downside was service, which appeared to be our server only, Tammy. She was slow to take our order. She forgot a salad and the hollandaise sauce. She didn’t refill coffee until the meal was over. She didn’t check on us at all during the meal and I needed another napkin to deal with the yellow liquid dripping all over everything(aka hollandaise sauce). The people at the table next to us had a much better experience. They had the Hill Country omelet and Mediterranean omelet and enjoyed them very much. Summary: not bad, but I wouldn’t bother eating here again since it’s not great, except maybe to pick up bakery items to go.

It’s the bread Mecca. Theis has a masters degree in his craft and the taste shows … True German inside and out … Wonderful food! The Cheese and bacon rolls i would want at my last supper… The carrot cake is breathtaking … The BEST in New Braunfels… !!!
