Picture a cowboy singing for a rock band with a slight German accent and that this place. The atmosphere is top notch the drink variety is vast something for everyone. The food is great and the service is great the owners are very friendly it is managed well and has a great deck over looking the river…

The work crew comes here after hours and hangs out sometimes. Chicken diablos were good, could have been a little bigger or more, maybe. Wedge salad was decent. Next time I’ll add steak to it. I’ll have to come back when the kitchen isn’t closing and try more.

The River Hofbrau is the BOMB! and I do mean that in a good way!!! I received a gift card from one of my co-workers for Christmas and we decided to go have lunch there today. The customer service was wonderful and Austin our waiter was VERY nice. The first question that he asked was…“Is this your first time here at the River Hofbrau?” I thought that was really nice! Anyway, the atmosphere in the inside alone is wonderful but, you can sit out on their patio if you like the cold air and want to freeze(LOL). I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel(breaded pork cutlet), with this AWESOME dark gravy sauce that they call Jaeger sauce it really made the dish. It came with cabbage and I could have gotten German(warm) potato salad but, I upgraded to the potato soup instead. The entire meal was wonderful. My friend order the Rahm Schnitzel(breaded pork cutlet), but, it had a lighter sauce… VERY different from the Jaeger sauce she said it was so good and would order it again in the future. We didn’t have drinks because we were on our lunch break but, the drink menu is off the chain and I can’t wait to go back to sample a drink very soon! Oh, the portions are huge and we both had to take a to go box so, it’s worth the money! So, if you are ever in New Braunfels and want to try something«different» like comfort food, I would strongly recommend The River Hofbrau… I don’t think you will be disappointed!

We had a great server even with a bunch of big tables he was able to take care of our seven people. The food was fresh and delicious it was our first time and definitely won’t be the last time. I’m definitely a fan of this place and will go back frequently… it had great German food and my wife had a great chicken fried steak off the American side..

I absolutely love the fried pickles here. They are chicken fried, not too thick, and not too thin. They are so good. The schnitzel is tender and melted in my mouth. The breading was crispy and i could taste the butter it was fried in. I would definitely get it again. It came with cabbage and bacon which I enjoyed, and potatoes which I did not. I had the beer cheese soup which was just ok. I sampled the German potato soup and didn’t care for it either. I look forward to returning to this restaurant.

Food is a about equivalent to an upscale sports bar with a German twist. Service has always been good and attentive and the atmosphere is fun. The beer Rita’s add a diverse drink menu if that’s what you prefer.

You have to pay $.50 for a dinner roll? What sort of restaurant charges for dinner rolls with dinner? Utensils wrapped in dirty napkins. Cody was an awesome and knowledgable server. This is my fourth time here and the service always seems decent but the kitchen seems to be a little slower than expected. I had a nice evening meal on the patio, and I would easily say the view and the outside is worth the mediocre food. They do, however, do excellent asparagus.

This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. It’s Texan-German flavor is consistently tasty. The staff and the atmosphere is friendly and casual. Pompous assholes hate this place, which is exactly why we love it.

Plus half a star. So I came here in the thought of getting some sour broughton but sadly it wasn’t on the menu. So I ordered the jaeger schnitzel instead. I’m a little disappointed in the menu being so limited. Food came out. Not the most amazing German food I ever had. I’ll say eating in Germany at Epcot in Disney was significantly better. My food would have been better if it came out hot. I would say my dish came out at heat lamp temperature. My g/f dish was less impressive. The sour kraut was the best part of her sampler. And her food came out like warm at best. All in all the food would have been labeled at okay if I never had German food before. But since I have I’m not impressed. Although I will say the portion size was good. I wasn’t left still wanting more. Service was good. Never had to ask for a refill on my drink and food came out in adequate time.

Ugh! We were so hoping this would be our new German food fix in New Braunfels, but this wasn’t it. Very few German food options. We ordered the Crispy Shrimp as a dinner and I ordered a bowl of the cheese soup. I love cheese and I love soup… how can you go wrong? Well the soup was sent back. It had an overpowering taste of garlic and was lukewarm. No cheese flavor was detected. They graciously took it off the bill. We also ordered the deep fried mushrooms and they came out hot and tasty. The shrimp came out crispy but had a fishy taste to them. Would not order those again. The potato wedges and coleslaw were good. Had the plain cheesecake, it was the best part of the meal. Even with the soup removed the bill came to $ 35. Way too much for a so-so meal. Felt like we needed to go somewhere else to get the bad taste out of our mouths.

Service was rocky at first, but once our waiter came to our table he made it all better! Food was amazing! I thought I would never taste a schnitzel the way my brother in law makes it because hes German, but oh my word! It was delicious! Great music, great food, great MARGARITAS! And great service!!! Yes, Margaritas of all sorts of flavor too!

We tried this place as we were from out of town and the food and pricing was Chili’s quality. I had the chicken fried steak(it was okay) wit buttermilk potatoes(they were bland with chunks, no gravy) and the seasonal vegetables(they were good put too small of a portion). I was actually expecting a lot better out of this place since it is not a chain restaurant. Even Chili’s does a better job as we had to wait a good while for our food and it was moderately busy. My friend had the pecan crusted chicken and she said it was pretty average at best. Looked like they literally cooked it fast because it was really dry. The french fries were okay and the sauce that came with the chicken was a little tasty. My boyfriend had the chopped steak. He ordered it medium rare and it came out more like well but he thought it was good. The portion size was very small for the price, he had the same mash potatoes and bland rice. My other friend had a burger, it looked pathetic and once again very small. Fries were kind of soggy and vegetables weren’t very fresh. My other friend had the bratwurst hoagie and he said it was delicious, I did not sample it but would take his word for it. I wouldn’t return to this restaurant the next time I come to New Braunfels. When your food is worse than a chain with similar options and pricing, you aren’t doing very well.

The Hopes of this being a great German restaurant were quickly chiseled away. I was surely surprised that the overall ratings were only 3+ stars because the parking lot was packed full. Sadly though, the menu is more American and Texas than German. Germany should revoke the name of this restaurant as a fraud! The service was lame, and the food was sadly only mediocre. Now I understand the review scores. But the parking lot is still a mystery!!!

Finally found my way here for drinks with friends then it turned into dinner. Shared a strawberry blonde with my husband. That was pretty strong! At first they brought us a half filled one with strawberry margarita and a Shiner Bock. They fixed that. Didn’t know what to order so I decided on the ribeye cooked medium with fresh veggies and twice baked potato. I was really impressed with the steak as it was cooked exactly how I asked which doesn’t always happen when I ask for medium. Everyone had a bite and we all agreed that it was mighty tasty. The veggies were very good but the twice baked potato could have been a little more flavorful and fluffier. Almost forgot! We ordered pretzels but they brought out pickles so they fixed that. We had queso. It is a white queso and it was fine. Atmosphere is a dark and not too loud. It is very Texas style.

River Hofbrau is a very interesting German place. Decorated with deer heads and what not everywhere, it’s hard for it not to be. The service is great! Everybody was nice and took care of us. The food was held up because of a kitchen problem, but otherwise everything came by relatively fast. We ordered two entrees and one appetizer, all of which were delicious. We ordered Wiener Schnitzel and the Brautwurst plate. The appetizer we ordered was Fried Oysters, which the restaurant managed to perfect. All of the food tasted great, and had a certain taste which the taste of sticked to your tongue. The water also tasted like well water,(which I have tasted before) which is healthy and full of minerals. Overall I have a positive response to this great German restaurant!

Small plates large prices slow cooks. Loud! Even on a Tuesday The sweet tea was awful. The hostess kept adjusting her outfit and a waiter had time to beat on the wall and rap to himself. Im sure this is a gr8 spot to meet up at the bar. But when hot food shows up cold and the plate they charge 11.99 for leaves you hungry. Its a do not revisit place for us. I will be glad when the next restaurant comes to this location this one will not last. I HADHIGHERHOPES. THISCOULDBE A 5STARLOCATION.

We stopped by here after floating the Comal river, didn’t expect much but it wasn’t bad. Our waitress was awesome and a fun sized gal like myself. We got there in time for their Sunday happy hour so we tried their brisket nachos and this chicken app that was wrapped in bacon and drenched in buffalo sauce. Both were pretty good standard bar food. I wanted to try their brat burger which was ground up brats, they didn’t have it and offered something else to me… I wasn’t paying attention but when I got it, it was a brat on one half of the bun and the other half was a burger topped with some cabbage. It was a little strange and I had to eat them separately but it was greasy goodness. The potato wedges were pretty good also, they had stone ground mustard that went really well with the brat. My honey got a schnitzel, and it was very very buttery… we also got a mushroom demi glacé on the side and it went pretty well with the potato wedges actually. Our poor arteries though. They had a daily beer special that was $ 4 and it was a good brew. I tried one of their giant margaritas that had a bottle of sake in it and it was not too bad. Our friend got a gringo margarita that had a jalapeño beer in it… very different. All in all, just another chain type restaurant experience. They do have a giant longhorn in the front with duct tape on it’s horns and the most dangly gonads I have seen on a sculpture, for whatever that’s worth!

First off… love what they did with the place! They took the old restaurant that was here and completely revamped it and truly made it their own. The staff are great… especially the bartenders! Katie, Stephanie, and Angel are full of enthusiasm and love doing anything possible to make sure that YOU the customer are having as fun of a time being here as they are serving you! And obviously, since it’s a German food place, you have to have to have good German food! And as a native of Germany… I’m excited to announce the food is absolutely fantastic! I’m already looking forward to coming back… and I’m still here writing this review and enjoying their daily $ 3 drink special! 22oz of goodness for $ 3?! You can’t beat that. ANYWHERE!

I’ve been here twice now, and both times were slightly different experiences that were entirely dependent on the wait staff. The first time I went was with a large group. Despite having no reservations, we were accommodated promptly and had a rockstar waiter(EDIT: Randy… definitely ask for him). The second time was with a group of 4, but our waiter was a bit younger and obviously more interested in getting the hostess’ digits then helping us. He was nice, but slow. In both instances I enjoyed the food quite a bit. Definitely try the pretzels… they are amazeballs. I also enjoyed the queso, Jaeger Schnitzel, and beer. Now I have to address the atmosphere, cause if you haven’t been to the Hofbrau in SA, you’re going to expect something that this place is not… a German Restaurant. I mean, they have some German food, and a handful of German beers, but other then that, this is very much a Texas Restaurant. If you are looking for a German Restaurant in NB, I would suggest Friesenhaus.
