Beverly Hills Prices For Beauty School Dropout Experience: Yesterday I went to get my hair done by Steven Glasgow and had the worst experience at a hair salon I’ve ever had. I was anxious for most of the appointment and left feeling ripped off and embarrassed about the appearance of my hair. Although I live in Nashville, I’ve been driving out to Knoxville to get my hair done because there’s a girl there that does beautiful color melts on my hair. I decided to try Steven because he was local and when asked, he said that he loved doing color melts. Before my appointment I communicated with Steven via text. I sent him pictures of my hair from when it had been freshly done; I told him that I just needed a refresh because my hair had faded & I had some roots. I told him that I wanted to keep the silver and either repeat the very pastel violet or maybe do a pastel mint. He said he could do it and I did not hear from him again until he texted me to confirm my appointment. Yesterday when I arrived at the apt. Steven didn’t have violet but he had picked up a minty color. We had never confirmed the mint color but I was open to trying it and felt a bit obligated since he went and bought it specially. This wasn’t a huge deal b/c he was very nice and seemed excited to put the color in my hair. I reminded him that I wanted very pastel color at my roots that would fade to silver blonde at the ends. The first sign of trouble came in the bleaching step. My roots turned bright yellow! Steven said he didn’t know why that happened but that it would be fine with the color melt on top. Things went down hill from there. He let me know that he was trying a new product line because, in his words, «if he always used Paul Mitchell products he would never grow». He picked out a silvery color & started doing test spots on the back of my head. He said I had one really silver streak but that it would work great. It took him a long time to apply the silver tinted color because he was reading about it the entire time, but it came out ok. The next step was the color melt. Steven was obviously worried when he squeezed the bottle & it came out yellow instead of mint. It was time for more reading & another test on the back of my head. He took a pic of the test spot & I told him it was way too green. He then showed me the spot w/a handheld mirror because he said it looked brighter in the pic. Looking with the mirror, I reaffirmed that it was way too dark. We decided to dilute the color a lot. He then proceeded to put the green on my hair with foils. I politely made a comment about how in the past my hairdresser simply put the color directly on the roots for a few minutes & then just pulled the color through with her fingers. Steven said I didn’t need to be nervous and that he was painting darker at the root and using a more diluted color on the other part of my hair. So foils and a little more frying later it was time for the big reveal… When the foils came off, there were two major problems. First, my roots were lime kitchen sink gunky green. Second, there was no silver — just lime green roots and faded light green throughout. My hair basically looked like it was dunked in a bowl of chlorine. Steven knew it wasn’t right because I said, «um my roots are really pretty bright» and he said, «I know I’m thinking». He wanted to put more bleach on it but I didn’t want to totally destroy my hair. He didn’t know what to do but said he didn’t want me to hate it. I told him that it just wasn’t what I was expecting and that it was important for my hair to not change too much because I have a blog and my hair is part of my brand. His snarky reply was, «well, this won’t show up in model lighting». I told him that it was fine and that maybe it would lighten up when it’s dry. He dried my hair about half way and then said it was too hard to blow dry b/c my hair was so damaged(my hair wasn’t that damaged when I walked in). He then cut my hair while it was damp(so it was flipped in every direction and I couldn’t tell what he was doing). He was like«I know it looks like a fucked up haircut but it’s just b/c the hair won’t lay down». He then proceeded to use a straightener on my damp hair. It did look lighter when it was dry. He kept saying I hope you don’t hate it. I was trying to be polite & stay composed. I told him that I didn’t hate it but that it wasn’t what we discussed. I paid him $ 256 and left. When I got home, hair still damp, I was devastated. My hair is now green and too damaged to fix it for a while. My boyfriend, mom, and friend all said I should ask for a refund. Steven said that he doesn’t give refunds but that he could fix it. Frankly, I don’t trust him to fix it & I don’t think it’s fair I paid so much money for him to try something he’d never done before on my hair. I strongly caution anyone against getting his or her hair done my Steven Glasgow!
