Have been there a few times because I love shepherds pie and the one they make here is great… but I can never leave with just that due to the fact that every thing looks great and pretty much is… loved the apple pie and the Portuguese tarts… am going to try more due to all the posts here…

Love the pie store! I have ordered a few pies for family parties over the past year. The apple pie is amazing. It’s not too sweet or too gooey in the center so you really get the apple flavor. There are several layers of sliced apples stacked. The mince pie was one of my favorites at Christmas time. The Pie store made it traditional with raisins and citrus flavors. It was nice and fresh. Pre ordering is recommended for the holidays so plan ahead. While in the store be sure to check out the candy selection. It’s mostly British candy which can bring nostalgia to some sweet tooths.

Excellent sweet and savory pies! I have tried the apple pie, pumpkin, chicken pot pie and Thanksgiving pie. My least fav is the pumpkin pie due to too many spices including cloves. Hard to find a simple pumpkin pie these days. Thanksgiving pie was amazing. Highly recommend.

The pie I got from The Pie Store was the best pie I have ever had, ever, by far. Filled with berries and rhubarb, it was wonderful. No gooey pie filling, just the natural fruit, and spices, perhaps. The crust was amazing — not mushy or crumbly. The Pie Store takes pies to a new level. I would post a picture, but it is all gone. I will definitely go back for more, often.

When craving stuff from home, this is my go to place! Especially for the cheese and onion pie and to top it off it tastes just like GREGGS back home if not better!

Came in for banoffee pie after searching on Unilocal and left with 2 bag filled with goodies — very nice owners and people working there — they didn’t have banoffee on the weekday I was there but she made me one on the spot — couldn’t resist the other pies because the combo of ingredients was outstanding: — sweet potato and blue cheese(strong fresh cheese!) — lamb was super savory — chicken masala delicious with chickpeas pouring out To top it off, it’s a heaven for anyone looking for goodies from the UK — dairy milk chocolates, sodas, h&p sauces, curries, beans, golden syrup… so many random things that you didn’t you could find ! What a find !

I have tried the pie store twice. The first time they were sold out of most of the options listed but what I did get to buy was good. Today was my second try here and it was very disappointing. Their small pies are not in fact pies. They’re more of a cobbler. The two small pies I bought today had no crust on the sides or bottom, just a lattice on the top. That’s not a pie. Also both fillings were horribly tart and had no sugar in them as far as we could tell. Most of them were thrown out. No one was impressed. Overpriced, waste of time. Cross this off your list.

The pies are delicious, both the sweet and the savory. They have lots of English candy and chocolate, which is fun, too. Staff are helpful and friendly. Glad this shop is in town as their offerings are really unique.

Went back for some of the savory pies: curry pie and turkey pot pie. Just as good as the sweet! If I lived closer, I’d probably make a weekly stop in here! Soooo good!

Really great savory pies. Steak and ale is my favorite. The other ones are good, but steak and ale has the perfect balance of meat and… not meat. The other ones have too much potato filling for my tastes, but still superb. Also tried the small egg custard pastry — very sweet but texture was super light and fluffy, which was perfect. Not a bargain by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely a great place to visit for a foodie or to buy a pie for a special occasion.

Awesome! Their meat pies are filling and tasty and there’s plenty it them to choose from. If you’re in the mood for sweets, they have every type of goodie you can imagine from across the pond. But most of all, they have Lucozade! One of the greatest drinks ever. So thankful my friend introduced me to it years ago

I had to visit The Pie Store again after previously experiencing such pastry bliss. What made the decision easier was that Mother’s Day was coming up, and I needed to get a dessert for the occasion. Scanning the menu I can’t believe I forgot about the Banoffee Pie! Tip…order the Banoffee pie ahead of time as it’s one of their signature pies and I’m told whenever they do have it in stock it sells right away, so I called one day ahead and placed my order for pickup. I arrived to pickup my order and tried to resist keeping my cravings to just the Banoffee but right by the cashier were several decadent and sinful looking scones beckoning me to purchase them. The extra sharp Cheddar cheese scone was tempting me the most as I was in the mood for something savory, plus the scone was humongous! It was delicious savory goodness as the Cheddar was sharp and formed a nice crispy outer scone shell. Texture inside was perfect scone buttery biscuit like. Banoffee PIE, Banoffee PIE, Banoffee Pie! So good I have to say it three times. As some have mentioned in previous reviews some parts of the pie are sweet(the toffee part) but in my opinion that’s expected… it is toffee. Luckily the toffee sweetness was kept in check by the other components of the pie like the fresh bananas, dark chocolate shavings, cream, and graham cracker crust. Speaking about the graham cracker crust it was really awesome with the earthy grainy graham crackers giving a nice solid pie base. Another excellent food experience!

Not that I needed a special occasion to get me to The Pie Store, but for my first time here(4÷25÷15), it was to get my dad an edible birthday surprise! Arrived around 10:30am on a Saturday morning and got lucky with the last street parking spot available.(Parking is not so abundant on this windy street) Got even luckier because usually you need to preorder the Banoffee pie, but the owner was there and had everything needed to make one on the spot for me in about 15 minutes! THANKYOU!!! With those 15 minutes I made my way through all the UK sweets, snacks, beverages, and condiments they offered, and back to the case at the counter holding all their delicious pies. Savory selections will have to wait for my next trip though! — I got my eyes on Lamb & Feta, Chicken Tikka, and Shepherd’s Pies! I ended up leaving with the small size Key Lime Pie, a large Banoffee, some post-Easter discounted chocolates, and several bags of UK chips. Next time I’ll definitely try their savory pies and preorder a chocolate mousse pie! Sooooo what did we think of these pies? My dad thought the Banoffee was too sweet for his liking, but the bf and I both loved it! There were enough slices of banana to even out the sweetness from the gooey toffee. The only gripe is how messy it was to serve up. It was super hard to cut into while keeping all the layers together, so serving it to guests was difficult and ended up being a pile of banoffee on a plate! As for the Key Lime Pie… I was confused. There was a tag on the box with heating instructions(the Banoffee Pie didn’t have this). I would’ve hoped and expected for one of the staff members to tell me about heating this pie prior to leaving the shop if it needed to be heated. But I knew this pie generally doesn’t need to be! It was an easy mistake as they must have just placed it in the wrong box! Unfortunately for the inexperienced pie consumer, one may actually heat the pie up regardless because there were instructions to do so. Sending this gentle note/warning out to The Pie Store to double check their boxes. As for taste, it was creamy and limey tart. Really enjoyed it, but won’t make it on my «best I’ve ever had» list. That’s alright though Pie Store. I know with frequent visits, I’ll find my fave from you!

I can only speak for the chocolate mousse, soup of the day and customer service, but I’ll definitely be back to try more. After this place made the review of the day, I was hoping to try the banoffee pie, but they didn’t have any. In fairness, it was Easter Sunday and the cashier told me they only made them to order. When I first walked into this place, I thought I was in a Moroccan restaurant. They do a soup of the day and it just so happened they were making lentils with Moroccan spices. Thinking this was the soup of the day, the smell alone forced me to order a cup to go. Then they told me this was not, in fact, the soup of the day. The lentils were intended to go inside a pastry puff, but I didn’t need the extra carbs so they let me just have the lentil concoction. It was delicious. Initially, I didn’t care for the mousse, but that’s because I left it in the fridge for too long after getting it home and didn’t give it enough time to thaw out, so it was hard at first. I saved the rest for later and it was much, much better. The prices aren’t too awful. The pint of soup and tiny mousse ran just over $ 10, but for Upper Montclair, I wasn’t surprised. My only two gripes with this place are 1) nothing is labeled so you have to ask what everything is if it isn’t obvious. And 2) The storefront is kind of cluttered with non-baked goods such as boxed cookies, Cadbury eggs around Easter time, etc. So there isn’t much room to stand while you’re waiting to be served. If you’re not the only customer, things can get awkward. Overall though, the staff is super friendly and very accommodating.

This place is insane. INSANE. Probably the best meat pies I’ve ever had, and that’s coming off of a stint of living in England for a year. Who knew the flakiest crust, the most perfectly stewed meat, the richest flavor and super reasonably priced pies were located in goddamn New Jersey of all places. GODDAMNNEWJERSEY.(Sorry I’m Brooklyn born and raised so I’m physically not able to mention Jersey without throwing in a little scorn, mi scusi). I’d heartily recommend their soccer pie and/or the steak and ale pie… I’ve got my eyes on some of the dessert pies too, they look so good I could weep. No kidding though, if you want the best meat pie this side of the Thames(and by ‘this side’ I mean this hemisphere) you have got to check out The Pie Store. Special bonus– they have every single British important chocolate/candy you could ever hope and ask for. Not to mention cans of dandelion and burdock…(!!!) I’m tellin’ you, no kidding. Love this place. Can’t wait to come back.

So, ever since I studied abroad in England, I cannot get the thought of banoffee pie out of my head. I talk about it non stop with any British person I meet. I beg my colleagues in our UK office to ship me some. Now, no more need to do that! My friend went nuts trying to find a local shop that makes banoffee pie and boy, did he deliver!!! He said the owners of the shop are super nice and also, from across the pond so you get genuine banoffee pie here. When I bit into it, I was transported back to Cambridge. I love it so much. I still crave it all the time. Just note that you should call ahead of time to reserve one because they do sell out of them! I will have to go back and try some of their other pies but if it’s as good as their banoffee pie, I am their biggest fan.

Say what? I don’t think one has been living a fulfilled life without having stepped foot into a store that is dedicated to PIE. Walking in to this small #Montclair shop, your gaze goes straight to the pastry case filled with pies: custard pies, curry pies, shepherd pies, blue cheese pies, a damn Thanksgiving stuffing pie. My mind was blown. I already had The Pie Store in mind after tasting them at a Unilocal event in Jersey City a few years back. I’ve been waiting 2 years to have a reason to buy dessert in Montclair and what a wait it was worth. I called ahead and had a really great exchange with Steve placing my order. They were ready and waiting for me when I arrived. I ordered up the chocolate mousse and the blackberry, raspberry apple combo. Now, not gonna lie, I did a little gulp at $ 24 a pie. Day-um. But upon carrying out my pies to the car, they weighed close to 20 lbs. When I brought them to the Superbowl party and opened them up, there were literally gasps. These were damn near the prettiest and thickest pies this far northeast of the Mississippi. Each large dessert pie easily feeds 8 people, they are deliciously dense and just about as rich as a pie gets. The chocolate mousse pie was more of a ginormous truffle in pie form. If you are a chocolate lover this should probably be on your bucket list. The fruit pie was almost too beautiful to eat, but after 3 minutes of staring at it, we dove in. Buttery and perfect, I loved the trifecta of fruit making each bite a perfect blend of a little bitter but oh so buttery sweet. I will be back for their savory pies because for real, a Thanksgiving stuffing pie may be added to my last meal on earth rotation.

To be a Montclair resident and not try The Pie Store is somewhat a sin in my book. It’s an absolute gem! Visiting this little place is just like traveling to London and back minus the 14 hour flight round trip. They have a small but excellent selection of savory and sweet pies, some of which are only available during the weekends so be sure to check their website. The savory pies waft at your nose the second you open their door, and taste just as good as soon as you reheat them in the oven. In addition to the pies, they also have wall to wall shelves of British and Aussie goodies; Cadbury chocolate, Walker potato chips, canned mushy peas, PG tea bags, Vegemite, Bounty, name a non-perishable good and it’s probably here. Definitely try the Steak & Ale, Chicken Madras, and the Banana Toffee or Banoffee Pie as both are at the top of my list. The chocolate mousse is a close second; I prefer a more light and fluffier mousse than what they sell. Over all I would have to say that anything with their pie crust is a solid choice and what sets them apart from other pie/pasties. It’s so flaky!!! The prices are not the cheapest, but well worth every bite!
