Monica does a wonderful job with my cuts and color! I first started to go to her when I saw the excellent cut she did on the hair of a friend of mine. She is careful and respectful — and a real expert with years of experience. I am rarely sure of what I want to do with my hair, and Monica is always ready with some good suggestions, but never pushes anything on me before I’m ready. She’s also great to talk with on a variety of subjects, from philosophy to history, biology, psychology and literature.

…the glowing review that I wrote in 2009 still holds true, so what else can I add?!!
Well, let me put it this way: I don’t like to drive. In fact, I will find any number of ways to get around, do what I need to and NOT have to get into a car. I live where I can walk or use public transportation. What a concept; what a delight. That said, i happily get behind the wheel and drive 24.7 miles (yes, I actually «clocked it» recently) and drive from my home in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose up to Menlo Park to have my hair expertly tended to by Monica at Alchemy. I wouldn’t think of doing otherwise!

Monica Mitchel has been running this fine hair salon for many years now, having taken it over from her mother quite some time ago. She is focused, receptive, thorough. She can take tired hair and make it look like a million bucks! Her suggestions for me as i– and my hair– have aged are thoughtful and always work. Moreover she is a wonderful professional who shares of herself and life– what a treat!
