We found this company online because we were not having any luck here in Hawaii finding the furniture we liked. We took a risk ordering a lounge chair and ottoman and the risk was well worth the investment. My wife and I cannot be happier and our friends often comment on how nice the chair looks in our house.

In September 2015, I purchased Manhattan Home Design’s version of the Eames lounge chair and ottoman. The box arrived quickly, but did not contain the ottoman. When I contacted customer service, they first replied quickly and told me to check the box again, since it should have been in there. Through several email exchanges, I assured them it wasn’t there, and they told me a new one would have to be ordered but would take 8 weeks. I was disappointed but understood that these things do happen, and settled in to wait.
By late November, no one had followed up, so I began emailing. I sent four emails, and not one was answered. Then I tried calling twice, but no one ever called me back. Then I used their online chat service, and the person I dealt with was professional and quick. The very next day, I had an apologetic email stating that my emails had gotten caught in the spam filter and that it would be another 4 weeks. I thought it was strange that my email would be going to the spam filter even though I’d previously exchanged emails with them, but I didn’t want to challenge them.
In January 2016, I emailed again having heard nothing. This time I was told that the ottoman would be shipped the following Monday and I’d have it by the end of the next week. I even got a pre-​shipping notification from FedEx. The big snowstorm came and I assumed it derailed the shipping, so I waiting a week before following up. And then no answer. I just followed up again, and I’m planning to try the online chat again tomorrow.
It has been almost six months since I purchased the chair and ottoman. I just want the ottoman so that I can stop chasing the company about this. Over a dozen contacts with the company and I feel like I’m no closer to a resolution. Fair warning to all.

I cannot recall a time I’ve experienced customer service quite as terrible as this!
They can boast all they want about their sales to large companies, the sales people were incredibly rude. After waiting on the phone for 47 minutes, I hung up and called the corporate 800 number back finally getting a sales person who rather curtly told me that customer service is done completely through email– even though they have a customer service extension.
The item sent to a family member was defective and even getting the company to fairly take the chair back has been a nightmare.
If you sell high end items, you should provide high end customer service. The manner in which I’ve been responded to is shameful and it doesn’t appear that I’m alone.

SERIOUSLY, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HERE. Unless you are okay with terrible customer service, I mean wait, non-​existent customer service. I ordered an Arco Floor Lamp and we followed directions on assembly and it seemed like the threads on the screw were insufficient. It wouldn’t hold the lamp to the marble base. I explained the situation via their «customer service» email and the sent me the SAME screws, again. I tried calling the second time around and no one picks up their customer service line, and the one sales person I did get a hold of was absolutely useless and unprofessional. They brag about providing to Disney, CNN and other big name companies, but it seems that they don’t care for their individual consumers. If they truly believe in their products and services are that great, they have succeeded in failing to prove that to me.
I wish you luck if you do choose to shop here.

There has to be a better option for what you are looking for. I Bought a chair for 1100 the arm does not attach. I couldn’t get anyone on the phone. You can only order on the phone. Problems must be submitted through email… Noone be lives there is a problem with the chair so now I have to return the chair to California even though I bought it and it was delivered from New York. Plus they are taking 15% for «restocking»… it’s a small life problem for me to have to deal with this BUT this place seems to be the definition of bad business.

I am 52 and have had quite a bit of experience with vendors/​retailers/​wholesalers, especially as a former business owner in Manhattan, and after two weeks of dealing with the disaster that is Manhattan Home Designs, I continue to be astonised that this company has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Never in my life I have experienced such inefficiency at every level. They never answer their phones (have tried customer service at all times of day and week and or sales). My only option has been to contact the sales people in the studio (Manhattan). I asked for some swatches and received the first batch (albeit much later than other companies I have been looking at) and prior to receiving them I asked for additiional samples in other colors.
Ultimately, I am interested in purchasing the Eames lounge chair and ottoman but since receiving the first set of samples I have lost interest on account of how sub par the leather seemed when compared to other samples I had received. For the latter request I spoke to the store manager and he guaranteed that he would follow up with me but so far I have not heard a word or received the additional samples.
I am writing this review purely to indicate that I have received much better service from their competitors such as IFN-​Modern (very efficient and eager) and Rove Concepts. After reading some positive reviews coming in I had hopes for this company and am now simply left amazed that they could have supplied the likes of Mercedes Benz, NYC, CNN, NBC with their product. How in the world is this possible given that they failed me on so many levels and so many times. If my experience is anything to go by AVOID at all costs.

I purchased an Eames style lounge and ottoman what they term a «Vitra Style Lounge» just two years ago and was very happy with the purchase, comfortable chair perfect size, loved it until recently when I was sitting watching TV one night and heard a snap then the sound of wood ripping apart and suddenly I was laying on the ground. After a moment I got up and surveyed what happened, upon closer inspection the adhesive on one of the 2 silicone pads that hold the back of the lounge to the base failed causing the opposite side of the back chair support to snap in half. Thinking that this is an obvious manufactures defect visited Manhattan Home Design’s show room which is just down the block from where I work, where i was told that I have to contact customer service and the only way to do so was to send an email. That same evening I sent an Email and accompanying photos of the chair explaining what had happened. Several Emails and photos later i am still waiting to hear what if anything they will do, I was told that they feel it was an accident on my part and not a defect in the manufacturing of the chair which I completely disagree with. To date they have only offered to send me a new back piece for a substantial charge plus shipping, not sure what I would be getting so I inquired further and asked if they would be including the adhesive to re-​attach the silicone pad that failed originally, and again I was told this was not a manufactures defect and i needed to provide them even with more photos so they verify what needs to be replaced. I am not happy at all with the way this has been handled or the quality of the product or customer service at this point, lets see what happens

In my opinion, this company is completely fraudulent. Based on my experience, you will not get what you ordered… and then have a nightmare of a time trying to return it. I ordered an Eames-​style chair that arrived defective. I immediately called customer service and was assured I would receive a full refund for the defective item. I emailed many photos of the numerous defects, but after that, I could never again reach a customer service representative on the phone (sometimes the phone would just ring and ring). Along with over a dozen phone calls, I sent numerous follow-​up emails, but my concerns were never directly addressed via email either. When I finally received authorization for the return I was informed I would have to pay a 15−25% restocking fee as well as spend over $ 350 shipping the item back. Not only that, but in the return authorization email, they sent me the WRONG ZIP CODE for their warehouse. The company has been a nightmare to work with, and they simply haven’t held themselves accountable for the defective item they sent to me. STAY AWAY!

UPDATE: I finally received a call from an employee named Juan. He apologized for any inconvenience I’ve had and said he would be helping me out personally from here on out. He gave me his phone number and told me to deal with him directly. Within about a week or so he personally packed and shipped me 2 back rest pieces so that I could choose the one that matched my chair the best. Both pieces arrived safety and in order. I chose the piece that matched and looked best and swapped it out with my old one. My chair looks a lot better now and Im happy that my issue was finally resolved. Juan has done an excellent job picking up the pieces and dealing with a neglected customer. He has the right attitude and perspective when it comes to customer service. He should definitely be running that place cause if he was, maybe this wouldn’t have taken a year to accomplish. Im not happy about the fact that I had to write all these reviews in order to get their attention but at least something was finally done about my issue. I am still talking to Juan to see if he will exchange my Ottoman for me since some of the veneer started coming off as I stated in my original review. I will keep making updates as they happen.

I’ve worked with this company for nearly two years now, and they supply half of our chairs in our 15 office locations nationwide.
I would say we’ve ordered roughly 150 of their Eames chairs to date.
I have had no problem to date with ordering, they’ve met my required delivery dates, and have always been responsive when I need them.
When I’ve called during business hours, I always get a human being.
Their white glove delivery service is a bit expensive, but it’s actually on par for furniture deliveries in general.
I’ve used their white glove service a few times, and have been happy with it, and generally it was worth the cost to not have to unpack and assemble 10 – 15 chairs myself (the styrofoam packing tends to annoy me).
All in all, I would highly recommend them if you’re looking for a good furniture company.

Summary: I ordered the Eames style lounge chair. I got what I wanted, eventually.
The Good:
— The chair looks really nice. I was concerned that it would look/​feel cheap. But instead it looks just like the picture online.
— The chair is well sized. I was concerned the chair would be too small (I’m 6’1″, 220lbs). It easily accommodates my frame.
— The customer service team was pretty responsive. Whenever I sent an email, it was responded to within 1 business day.
— The customer service team went «above and beyond» when I had difficulty assembling the chair. They first provided a video of a technician assembling the chair. When that didn’t resolve my issue, they contracted a local handyman to come to my house to help put the chair together.
The Bad:
— It took a while to get the chair. I placed my order on the evening of 8/​19, and it didn’t arrive until the evening of ⁹⁄₁₁.
— The online order tracking provided no useful information (order status, tracking number) until 3 weeks after the order had been placed.
— The option to have the chair fully assembled before being shipped is apparently not honored. The fee for this service is $ 159, which I paid at the time of my order. The refund for this service took 9 days to process. When I asked why I couldn’t get the chair fully assembled, I was told it was a management decision to no longer provide that service, due to the cost associated with it.
— The chair was not easy to assemble. It comes Ikea style, with an allen wrench, 10 socket head screws, and 1 page of color picture instructions. The predrilled holes weren’t lined up precisely, which made it necessary to bring in a third party. It took two fully grown men exerting a good deal of effort to attach the arm rests. However, the video demonstration that was provided on my request showed no such struggle, suggesting I may have just received a «special» unit.
— The chair is not all that comfortable. I’ve been able to sit in it for a few days now, and my lower back isn’t a fan. Comfort was not my primary concern when choosing this chair, so it’s not a deal breaker.
— There were no care instructions included with the chair. I sprang for the upgraded leather, so I’d like to make sure it lasts. My request over the phone, and two subsequent email requests for these instructions, appear to have gone ignored.
UPDATE: Two weeks after this review, MHD followed up with me to provide care instructions for the leather, which were to buy a leather care kit and use it. Not sure why these generic instruction couldn’t have been included with the chair, but there it is.

I requested a full refund on the 7÷17÷14 via email since getting someone to answer the phone is impossible. It’s been eleven days and I’m still w/​out my refund. They’re charging me a cancellation fee when I have proof via fedex that the item had never even shipped at the time I requested a refund. And then they had the nerve to reply to my email mentioning my place of work specifically and demanding that I remove my previous negative review. I’m sure the police would consider that a form of intimidation and a violation of my privacy as a consumer. Perhaps they should spend more time on how to professionally run a business and less time googling and stalking their customers. Stay away from this poor, shady excuse for a business.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING from this «company»! It’s impossible to speak to a human. My wife and daughter bought me an «Eames» type chair for $ 1150 (approx.) in early June. It was shipped to me in Maryland and it was totally impossible to assemble.
The threading on the screws did not align with the holes in the chairs. I had to rethread all the screws to attach to the holes. The chair was TOTALLY uncomfortable!!!
I followed the instructions to return the chair. Get this… I had to repack the chair in an outer box in addition to a new one. I went to Fed Ex and for $ 210 I packed it and had it shipped to their New Jersey warehouse. I have a written receipt and as of today 6÷25÷2014 am STILL awaiting credit (which was promised within 48 hours of receipt) to my credit card.
If you want to aggravate yourself THUS is the company to use. If you want to purchase something from them… rethink it!!!
As bad customer service as I have ever had to deal with in my adult life of over 45 years.

I recently purchased a «Womb Lounge Chair & Ottoman» from Manhattan Home Design. I freaking love the 70s; who doesn’t?!
For being in NY they had a great price and it was cheaper to buy it from them and have it shipped to Chicago. Do you know what Chicago taxes are like? Yeah, eff that, Mayor Emanuel and Crook County.
Check out was clear and secure. It did take awhile for delivery, I thought it might be here in a week or two, but it took almost a month to get to me. It totally missed the party I was going to have featuring it, which why I knocked off a star or two. I called up customer service, and while they couldn’t ship it any faster, they were completely apologetic, and just great cats to vent with. Besides waiting, everything was fine the in box, and it has with stood some 70s style loving. I can’t wait until I can afford the love seat looking womb chair.

Manhattan Home Design is a total scam.
I purchased an Eames Lounge Chair that broke 2 weeks later. Turns out the brackets that hold the chair together are made out of cheap plastic. I contacted customer service and they sent out another Eames Lounge Chair assuring me that they’ve never heard of that problem before. The replacement chair breaks 5 days later.
At this point, I just want a refund, because it’s clear that the chairs are a total fraud. However, in order for a refund I apparently have to spend $ 500 shipping BOTH chairs back, disassembled. Now I’m out $ 1000 and have two broken Eames chairs reminding me what else I could have done with that money.
Complete. Scam.

I had the same horrible shipping and customer service experience. The first Eames chair we bought was received broken. Being an optimist, I returned it and waited patiently for a new one to be shipped. A month later it arrived and was also broken in half, just like the first one.
Customer service was distant but helpful at first, authorizing the return and re-​ship. But ½ the time I called them I received a voice message without voice mail options. FInally, I received a refund for the chair, but not the shipping charge! As if I should pay to ship and receive a broken chair (twice)!
Would not shop here ever again…
