Had my first experience with the Melt Bus at an event for Troy Camp(Chalk the Block). They have pretty good sandwiches, but just like the standalone shops — it’s just grilled cheese. It’s nothing super special other than the fact that it’s on some pretty good garlic bread. That being said, it was definitely good and the service aboard the bus was super quick. If you’re craving grilled cheese, this place is a pretty decent place to try!

The grilled cheese is really good, but I wasn’t blown away. I make grilled cheese at home all the time and I felt like I could’ve done the same thing at home. With that being said, it’s always fun to eat grilled cheese from a truck for some reason. I got the italian job and it was grilled perfectly. I also got a side of the corn soup, that was just okay– I found it to be a little bland. My meal came with chips, but I felt like that wasn’t needed and ended out throwing most of them away. They normally take credit cards, but the day I went the machine was down.

Score! Not only does this food truck have gluten free bread, they were cool enough to clean off a portion of the grill for my grilled cheese sando. I ordered the pepper jack and jalapeño on Udis bread. Niiice! Way to go The Melt Truck!

Had my first experience with The Melt Bus yesterday at a food truck event. I tried the Italian job and my goodness, it was tasty. Garlic bread with 2 perfectly melted cheeses and added spinach was delicious! Peter took my order and he was very friendly and cute too, hahahahaha. I hope to catch The Melt Bus around town again!

Their macaroni sandwich and ham is really good! I tried the thanksgiving sandwich and thought it was average, maybe if they used a different bread it could have been better. The best part about the combos is the soups! Yummy yummy yummy! One of the best features about this place is the lightning fast wifi and charging stations located at every booth. If you want a very good lunch and don’t want to sit at a crowded coffee shop with everyone hogging connection then this is the place to go. Oh and one more thing, the staff is very friendly, they make you feel at home. :D

@The_Melt Well I guess I should start by saying that I never really jumped on the Grilled Cheese bandwagon the way many others have. I don’t know when they became trendy but somehow they did. I like to think that this makes me more objective but I digress. What I don’t get is why people are willing to pay so much for a grilled cheese. I guess it’s a nostalgic comfort thing. It did make me feel all warm and fuzzy! What I tried from The Melt Bus was their Shorty combo. This melt contains short rib meat and pepper jack cheese on sourdough. It was OK, a bit salty for my taste but OK. The soup that came with it was very good but a little misleading. They called it a spicy black bean and don’t get me wrong, it was tasty but like the sandwich it just wasn’t spicy. That could have been me though. I tend to put hot sauce, usually sriracha, on almost everything. That would have helped here! One person lamented that the soup was too thin. I assume that’s by design so it’s better for dipping. It IS that! I do feel they are just a little pricey. The sandwich, soup and a water came to 12 bucks. Should have been closer to 10. So all in all I don’t really have a problem with this truck, it’s just not my thing. But the food is pretty good so I’ll give them a melty approval. ___________________________STALKER APPROVED________________

I was one of their first customers, way back when they were comping bowls of oatmeal to try to attract customers. Unfortunately, I didn’t(and arguably still haven’t) figure out how to use the fancy Unilocal machine at the time, so I missed a great opportunity at a first review. Curses! The Melt is a hip new place that has been popping up all over California, specializing in grilled cheese. No, this isn’t hidden in the basement of the church or anything. The proper name really should be The Melt Bus, since this is the mobile version of the restaurant. Menu items include grilled cheese, soups, and various sandwich melts that come with meat. There are myriad options for vegetarians, but far fewer for vegans(no cheese-less cheese here). Menu items run on the pricy side, at ~$ 5 for a melt and ~$ 10 for a soup and melt combo. Add bacon, tomato, and some other toppings to the sandwiches at no additional cost. All melts are served with a small side of homemade chips. Here’s a run down of the items that I have tried: Egg-in-a-hole — okay, as neat as it is for one of the slices of bread to have a hole in it that is filled with an egg, this makes an already small breakfast item even smaller. Not worth it — $ 5 for a breakfast item at Armando’s is a better call. The Mission(pepperjack with jalapeño on sourdough) and The Italian Job(fontina and provolone on garlic bread) — these prove to me that there is such thing as an upscale grilled cheese. You can taste the individual flavors easily, and both of them were cooked perfectly. Sausage and Pepper Soup — very strong flavor. Note that the sausage is completely broken down into the soup. It’s a little too minimalistic for me. Note also that all of their soups are completely liquid. While some found The Melt a little too light, I’ve never had an issue feeling hungry too soon after having a soup and sandwich for lunch. It is probably one of the better options in terms of filling you up while still feeling light. Note, of course, that cheese has fat. 8 grams or less though, according to their website, so those on the Subway diet can also eat here. 4 stars — I hope The Melt Bus continues to be a fixture in the UUC parking lot. The Melt delivers strong and delicious flavors for average food truck prices. I just wish their soups weren’t so minimalistic.

The Melt Truck was taking part at the Angel City 1st Annual Heritage Music & Arts Festival and as you guessed it, grilled cheese and beer go very well together. I had The Mission w/Pepper Jack & jalapeño w/added bacon on sourdough bread & my husband had The Italian Job w/Fontina & Provolone w/added ham on housemade garlic bread. We both split our sandwiches and washed it down with Angel City beer. The bread & cheese are delicious! I look forward to trying the rest of the menu.

Order: The Shorty Combo(short rib-pepper jack cheese sandwich + spicy black bean soup) Pros: 1) Very quick delivery of my food after placing an order. 2) Their black bean soup is tasty! 3) Their containers are absolutely perfect for their combos– the sandwich and soup all fit into this to-go box and even the soup spoon was inside. Very well thought out in terms of making the eating process easier for food-truck dining. There’s nothing worse than getting food from a food truck that you can’t eat while standing or sitting on a bench. Cons: 1) The grilled sourdough bread was salty. 2) There wasn’t enough short rib in the sandwich, and it was bland. 3) Not enough cheese. I hardly tasted it. 4) The soup was watery for black bean soup(even though it was super tasty). Summary: I’m not sure if they were having an «off» day, but the lack of filling in my sandwich was a bummer. It was more like grilled sourdough as the main dish with a side of meat and cheese.(In other words, the proportion of bread to meat/cheese was not right.) I’d try it again, and if I do, I’ll update my review if anything changes. You should give it a shot, anyway!

I’ve always seen the Melt Truck when rushing to class but never really gave it a second glance… until I got a chance to try it for free! The food: I chose The Mission(pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, sourdough) and added portobello. I was starvingggg so any food at the time sounded good, but this was actually amazing. They sprinkled this magical pepper salt powder on top of the bread which made the grilled cheese so different in the most delicious way possible. Plus there was a pickle, which is always a nice«side-dish». For under $ 5(without extras) I think it deserves a try, especially if you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive, quick and convenient lunch. Ordering online: The promotion going on required you to order through their online system, which I thought was super easy and efficient. Once you’ve chosen what you want and enter your credit card information, you get this QR code. I, unlike every other tech-savvy college student, don’t have a smart phone so I printed it out. Sadly the QR code reader didn’t work on the bus, but they were accommodating and still created my grilled cheese masterpiece for me after I pulled it up on a friend’s smart phone. After finals week I’ll be definitely treating myself to a smores sandwich!

Happy Grilled Cheese Day! Thanks to Ms. Dahlia S. letting me know about a special promotion, I was able to register online and get a free grilled cheese this week. I had the classic with tomato and bacon. When I got to the bus, I scanned the QR code from my online receipt and they made my order. It’s really quick. When I got my sandwich, it came in a pretty large sized box, but when I opened it, it was really flattened. I guess it has to do with the grilling mechanism they use. You can’t tell from the picture, but the bread has some kind of seasoning on the outside, so it’s pretty salty – which I liked at the time because I brought my own container of salad and an avocado from home which was quite plain. It also came with half a pickle, which I enjoyed. Overall, it was salty, chewy, lightly cheesy goodness. It’s not something I would get that often, but it’s a nice option to have something kinda light and quick on campus.

Bottom line at the top: yummy snack option on campus from 8 – 2PM! – This melt bus is so cute, it has lights and stuff like a real school bus(I think it actually is a painted school bus). Relive your primary education days with grilled cheese and soup :). They’re kinda small so this is definitely a snack option rather than a lunch one but I’ll totally take it! They added a lot of add on meat options like turkey, ham, bacon, etc. which is also chill.
