The manager Kai was really great. We came with 7 people without a reservation and he made some moves to accommodate us as soon as possible. Really nice guy. The place has good prices for Brentwood. Pretty clean too. Excited to eat!

I came in here a couple days ago to pick up an order. I had been here before and was satisfied with the service but had an entirely different experience this time around. When I arrived the waiter ignored me as he helped everyone else while also making eye contact with me when he finally decided to come to me he asked what I needed. I told him I had placed an order over the phone and without asking my name he quickly says«It’s not ready yet!» And walks away for about 5 minutes. I stand there pissed off and look around and see a bag of food sitting next to me with my name on the receipt. When he comes back he looks at me and says«It’s not ready yet!» I look at him and tell him«It’s right here» while pointing at the bag next to me. He looked at me with this shocked/nervous look on his face. He confirms that it’s my order and charges me. I received no apology for having been lied to or being kept waiting for my «not ready» food.

I used to come here fairly often about 10 years ago and the food was always very good, service was solid, and the place nice looking and clean. I ate dinner here a few nights ago for the first time in years, and things were exactly as I remembered. We had garlic edamame, miso eggplant, salmon and yellowtail sushi, a special roll, and chicken teriyaki. Everything was excellent and very reasonably priced. The ginger salad dressing is awesome as well. Will definitely be back and glad to know Taiko has kept things up after all this time. Consistency is key.

I wanted to love this place until I found a long, black hair soaked in my salad. It looked like it was been in there for awhile. Ugh it almost became my regular until this happened, definitely don’t think I can eat here again(also, just saw another review about hair in their food).

Last good japanese restaurant in the area, unbelievably. Everything is good. Must try cod kasuzuke, I have not seen anywhere else. Special chirashi is very good deal. Lunch menu is unique too, different than dinner, try the curry.

I have have been coming here since it first open 1997(cousin to former Mishima). I always liked coming to Taiko when they had a «sushi bar» in the back corner of the restaurant. The omakase sushi was very fresh and creative. It was sad when they closed the sushi bar. :( I still come to Taiko because the food is consistent and pretty reliable; reasonably priced. There is underground valet parking or metered street parking. The restaurant is located in the Brentwood Gardens shopping mall on San Vincente Blvd after all these years(Fred Segal, Theodore, Daily Grill and all others have followed are now gone). We can always get a table. The staffs are very pleasant and excellent service. We love the food(lunch & dinner). We decided to come here after a district meeting and we were craving for Japanese food. :) The Yaki-shiitake appetizer is very tasty. The combos are presented beautifully and the dishes are elegant, fresh, and tasty. We like the Sushi Combo. The udon and soba is perfect and very delicious either in a hot broth soup or serve cold with dipping sauce. The hot sake goes well with the food. :)

Not a fan of this place. I ordered two rolls for take out and they were extremely small for the price and it did not taste fresh at all. The ginger was brown and left a weird after taste in my mouth. It might be better if you actually sit down to eat there though.

I come here a few times a month. I’d come more but they’re closed on Mondays. I love their lunch specials and very reasonably priced! Whatever you do, YOUMUST get their house salad because their ginger dressing is incredible — the best I’ve ever had! I even purchased s small jar(around $ 10 if you ask).

The food was very good, reminded me of Japan. The atmosphere is good not to loud and great service. It must be good since most of the patrons were Japanese.

I’m generally not a fan of mall restaurants, but Taiko was a nice surprise. It’s tucked away in the Brentwood Plaza, which can be hard to find(same goes for parking as well). The«generic» items on the menu didn’t look too appetizing, but we ordered sashimi and the chirashi set, and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the ingredients and flavors. While it was not the best Chirashi bowl I’ve had, it was worth it for the price.

I went there with my girlfriend and we ordered the shrimp tempura, the vegetable skewer, and the tuna spring roll. All were delicately crafted, very delicious and fresh. However, the portions were very small for the price. We ended up spending $ 40(including tip) and went back home to eat something more substantial. Bummer. Nice atmosphere though.

I came here while the lunch special was going on. I ordered the Chirashi and it was the saddest looking Chirashi bowl I had ever laid eyes on. No wonder it was so cheap! This place is a bit hard to find. I will have to write an updated review if I ever come back to try this place again because the Chrisashi bowl during lunch is not where it’s at.

My brother in law was in town and he remembered enjoying this place when he used to live here in LA. I’d never been so we went. Overall, it was great. We shared the warm edamame(tasty! just the right amount of saltiness) and the shrimp dumplings. He wanted steamed(I always prefer fried ;)), they were good. Good flavor and consistency. He went with the spicy tuna roll and the yakitori don. Said it was just as good as he’d remembered it. I went with the salmon kasuzuke(Broiled salmon filet marinated in sake miso paste served with seasoned root vegetable). The marinade was delicious and the salmon was cooked to perfect level of «doneness.» the root vegetables were shredded and had interesting flavor. In general the service was helpful, friendly and on top of things. We had a little miscommunication when I said I didn’t want any rice with my salmon(although it would come with it) and so I got two of their house salads instead. As with many Japanese restaurants, the salad was not much to write home about — a whole bunch of iceberg lettuce with some sauce — but it was as serviceable as any I’ve had elsewhere. Overall, turns out there’s a really nice little Japanese place in the neighborhood I never really knew about, but would definitely come back!

Love this place! It’s definitely one of the more affordable places to have dinner in Brentwood. Located on the upper levels of the Brentwood Plaza, it’s a little hard to find. It’s to the right when you go up the escalators on the third floor. In any case, I’ve always had good service here. It’s fast, cozy, and the food is good. I always get the udon noodle soup and a few rolls(dragon and caterpillar). Their chirashi is also reasonably priced. It’s not comparable to Sugarfish or many of the really expensive places, but you get good quality fish for a meal that won’t break the bank.

Can’t seem to stay away from this place lately especially during lunch & happy-hour. They have decent bento & special Taiko combinations during lunch. We’ve enjoyed their sushi salads especially with just the house dressing. Decent quality when it comes to their rolls, sashimi, & sushi. I’m totally biased when it comes to fish since I’m a big fan of Sugarfish. So, for a quick, decent $, no-wait lunch/happy-hour meal, go here. Gotta love a place when an Asahi is less then $ 2. Cheap Asian beer to quench your busy work day. Ambiance open to families, couples, & work groups.

Taiko is probably the best $ 10 to $ 30 per person Japanese restaurant on San Vicente. While the fish isn’t Sugarfish good, it’s definitely better than your average mid level sushi place – and the prices are reasonable. The specials here are very elegant, fresh, tasty, and presented beautifully(try the jalapeño yellowtail special). The tempura is good, not great. Their soba and udon are super delicious, both hot and cold. The restaurant is small and cozy, located on the third floor of Brentwood Gardens(a super hoity toity shopping centre). The décor is modern and the layout efficient and clean. From my two trips here, it doesn’t seem like it ever gets too crowded(went once at 6pm, and another time at 7pm – both no wait). There’s also free valet with validation! Overall, the food here is tasty(I recommend cold soba noodles and one of the sashimi specials), the ambiance pleasant, and the convenience fantastic.

Disgusting. BEWAREDONOTVISIT The food had hair all over. It was dirty. The soup was cold and the vegetables were spoiled. I wouldn’t recommend this place ATALL. IFYOUDOHAPPENTOGOHERECHECKYOUREFOODFORHAIR N OTHERSTUFF. I already called the health department. They also add msg to the cooking oil.

Decent sushi place, but nothing really stands out about it. Moderately priced, not a deal and not expensive. The sushi wasn’t bad but really was not memorable. Had one roll that had sliced peppers on the top and they were way to thick, had to remove quite a few of them because it was just unpleasant to chew on. One cool thing about their tuna rolls is everything besides the tuna is optional, so you can have whatever combination of avocado/cucumber/something else you want. They had quite a bit of non-sushi dishes, and my the udon noodles looked good. Would probably order that if I ended up here again.
