Don’t get there at 6am when they«open» apparently they don’t wake up on time to open at 6. Had me waiting outside for 20 min and I couldn’t wait any longer so had to leave. So unprofessional, not coming back.

This place is amazing!!! I love all things fried(seriously), so when I first heard about this place, I had to check it out. It was my second time here today, and the food is exceptional. First time I was here, I preferred the chicken and waffle plate. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the waffle was fluffy. If you come here expecting Roscoes Chicken and Waffles, you’ll be disappointed. It’s a different flavor, but a good one at that. Today I had the breakfast sandwich. I chose the breakfast sausage and it comes with egg(your choice), and cheddar cheese. The bread was so good and the cheese was was melted perfectly onto the sandwich(mmmmm!). It was very filling and it was only $ 7!!! Coffee is pretty good, and my sister raved about their fried chicken sandwich! Customer service is amazing too. The only downside is that it can get pretty noisy in there when there’s a lot of people. I’d come back here any time!!!

A small, hipster restaurant located in DTLA Flower District. I didn’t expect to find such nice little place to eat in an area like this… and if you’ve been to the Flower District, then you know why. The district is pretty dirty and grimy, but the ambiance was very cozy and service was great! Everyone was super friendly and our food came out fairly quick. Prior to coming, I did call to ask about the line and wait. The girl who answered was super friendly– I can feel it just through the phone! She was genuinely so happy and it made me really want to come try this place out. My guy ordered chicken and waffles– he loved it. It’s very simple, presentation was good, and well… he enjoyed his meal. I didn’t try it. I got the pulled pork hash, which was amazing! I was debating on the salmon egg benedict or this… but I’m really glad I ventured out of my typical eggs benedict choice. There was a good amount of pulled pork on there and it wasn’t too dry and it wasn’t too saucey either. It was topped with 2 over-easy eggs(they will ask you how you want your eggs), all over a giant hash brown patty. Yummmm! I’d come back here if I was around the area. Really nice place! Cutesy. :)

Lumberjack pancake platter is so delicious! All those fluffy pancakes, crunchy brick hash brown, beautifully cooked eggs that POP with a slight touch, and savory sausage patty; mmmm! Besides the delicious food, the service was amazing at 645am. I just came back from visiting the flower market next door when my friend and I decided to stop by this restaurant. I didn’t get his name, but thank you to the patient and kind server who served me and my friend this morning with a smile!

I’m convinced. This place does live up to the hype. With the exception of one concern — that concern being that we waited in line when there were about 6 empty tables inside — this place is a 10 out of 10. I had the lumberjack breakfast. Typical, all-American breakfast plate, except that it wasn’t typical at all. I’ve never had pancakes this bouncy and dense. My boyfriend had the eggs benedict… It’s worth it if even just for the biscuit it’s served on. I’ve never had a better biscuit… WOW. All in all, if you have some time to spend waiting in line, even if it might be a false line manufactured just to create hype, do it. The food was well worth it.

Located right in the middle of the Downtown flower district, show up early or be ready to wait in a long line. You order right when you walk in and then take your seat. The larger the pary, the longer the wait. The ordering process creates a bit of gridlock at the entrance. They should work on that. I went with the Eggs Benedict and added the bacon for an additional $ 3. Well worth it I might say. The plating was gorgeous with the crispy bacon atop the biscuit forming a perfect base. After piercing the poached egg releasing its lava flow of yolk cascading over everything that got in its way. The crisp arugula salad had a hint of lemon which really contrasted the rest of the dish. I should of added the brich hash which looked amazing. I did try the sausage and it took some getting used to. I could not pinpoint the flavors it encompassed which was maddening. It was not greasy or fatty which I was expecting. I’m assuming it was some house marinade which half of my party was not too pleased with. Even I had to cleanse my palate a few times. Maybe it’s an acquired taste. Good luck with that one. Cute southern charm inside the restaurant.

Mad love for the Market Scramble that I ordered! Deliciously savory with fresh scrambled eggs, mushrooms, and diced bacon. The earthy tones of the mushrooms complemented the subtle saltiness of the bacon bits. The eggs were perfectly cooked so that they weren’t dry and powdery. It came with a bountiful side mixed salad drizzled with a pinch of vinaigrette. The portions were generous and very tasty. There are several parking lots around the buildings that you can park your car(albeit super tight), ours was basically valeted for $ 10.00. We then walked across the street to Poppy+Rose to get in line. The line to get in is outside the door, we waited about 20 minutes before we ordered at the front when we got in. Prepare yourself with reading the menu beforehand so you don’t hold up the line. The staff was gracious enough to provide water for all the patrons waiting in line since the weather was hot and there wasn’t much shade to begin with. Inside, there are two long communal tables with other smaller tables as well. Everything was delicious, boyfriend also enjoyed his chicken and waffles and the fresh squeezed OJ was the perfect top off(although a little too pulpy for my preference, but very refreshing). Staff was amazingly friendly and very helpful and the interior was amazingly simple and bright(unlike its outside counterparts of the LA streets). I just didn’t enjoy the ordering system that much.

Before you make way here, things to note: Located in the heart of the Flower Market in DTLA(a little sketchy for some out of towners or residents who don’t frequent DTLA). Meter parking or parking at the flower mart, with validation it’s only $ 2. On a first come, first serve systems, so expect a line while you wait to order and seated. Met my cousins up for brunch on Memorial Day. Free street parking holiday! I didn’t know at first when my meter took 50 cents of mine and wasn’t working. I confirmed with my cousins and reconfirmed online. Score! Waited about 25 – 30 mins in line. FYI they don’t serve Benny’s on weekdays, just weekends! We had some disappointed people in our party. :( Ordered: *Chicken Sausage Breakfast Sandwich: when ordering the bfast sandwich you have an option of bacon, beef sausage or chicken sausage. Bacon: you get croissant; Sausage: burger buns. Egg(any style) sunny side up. Delicious, but it was a little messy with pieces falling off. *Chx + waffles: Chx was flavorful and juicy. *Pulled Pork Hash: pork wasn’t too salty; bbq flavored. Hash is so crispy, delish! Both my cousin’s ordered poached eggs, unfortunately, it was more cooked then they liked. Lumber Jack Breakfast: tried a pieces of the pancakes and it was delicious! Check in on Unilocal and get a free cup of coffee, with refills! Also, if you order the cage free egg as a side, know that it’s $ 3EACHEGG. A little hefty priced per egg. One cousin returned her plate for pulled pork hash because of the well cooked poached eggs. All she wanted was just to have the poached eggs remade. But the kitchen remade the entire plate. Good thing and bad. Good: the service! They want to make sure the order is the way you want it. Bad: She was really hungry and hate wasting food, so she had to wait additional time for her dish. Overall great service. I appreciate the«first come, first serve» system. Reminds me of SF or NY spots. It works.

So glad we tried this place. The food was really good. The mister and I ordered the pulled pork hash, fried chicken and waffles and the poppy grain bowl. All 3 were spectacular. The pulled pork was soft and nearly fell apart the moment you placed it in your mouth. The hash was thick, remained crispy for most of my meal and topping it off with poached eggs was the best idea I ever had. The fried chicken was also crispy and juicy and the buttermilk waffle was the perfect complement to the dish. The poppy grain bowl was also a good choice. The basmati rice and quinoa balanced each other very well because you can feel the difference in textures. It had a very fresh and healthy flavor. The mushrooms were my favorite. Yum! We also got free forge’s ice coffee for checking in! The restaurant is located across the flower mart and in a very run down area not too far from skid row. When we got to the front of the line we noticed this place was run a little different. This place doesn’t take names down. Instead you stand inline outside until you reach the door. When it’s your turn to order you step up to the counter and order your food. Then give you a stand with a number and they direct you towards your seat. The ambiance is loud. The walls don’t seem to absorb much sound because you could hear the echoing of conversations. Overall it was a good experience and I would come back again.

A cute breakfast place next to the LA flower mart!!! What can be better??! The egg scramble was full of umami flavor because there was a big general portion of mushrooms. The salad was fresh. The fruit was the only thing that was a bit of a let down. Mushy and rotten fruit at the bottom while fresh fruit was at the top. Were they hiding it or was it just crushed? I was there on a weekday morning so maybe they didn’t get a new shipment in? Whatever the reason, I would have given this a 4 star if I was able to eat the fruit. Otherwise, seasoned perfectly. Fresh and delicious eggs. Hits the spot for breakfast!

I looked up best brunch places in DTLA and this spot came up in the top 19 places in the city. First off, parking sucks. It’s practically non-existent. But finally when you get to the restaurant there is a line that extends out the front of the place… which makes me think it’s worth the wait. Checked in to the place, and you get a free up of coffee. Their coffee is phenomenal, so definitely worth the check in. Ordered the chicken and waffles, and it was honestly average. Was kinda disappointed. My chicken wasn’t hot, was warm at best and soggy. Overall it was okay. My friend ordered the lumberjack breakfast and she loved it. Will give this place another shot.

I don’t know what took me so long to try Poppy + Rose, considering my lifelong affinity for fried food and gravy, but I finally went in this past weekend expecting to love my breakfast and left validated. I went on a Saturday morning, which means two things: the street was closed off for early weekend flower scavenging and the Benedicts were available. Poppy + Rose is located smack dab in the middle of the DTLA flower district and at first, it seems like an unnatural location for such a hip restaurant. That is, until you look around at the sea of hip LA dwellers carrying their bouquets to be arranged in mason jars and posted aesthetically to Instagram. Not unnatural at all, really. From the outside, the interior looked like a gloomy cafeteria, so imagine my delight upon being proved so wrong by the bright, open space that is Poppy + Rose. Décor and ambiance is nice, even if the wide open space contributes to the din that will inevitably drown out your conversation. The highlight of my meal was absolutely the Fried Chicken Sandwich. The best fried chicken sammie I’ve had in recent memory featured the most succulent slab of chicken, spiced and fried to the best of anyone’s ability. The chicken was so juicy and bursting with flavor, it almost didn’t need the sliced pickles and tasty aioli that accompanied it. But I’m glad they were — you know how much I love a good aioli. The buns were soft but kept their body and each bite of the sandwich remained as good as the one preceding it until there was nothing left. I couldn’t not get a benedict when I was so coincidentally there on a weekend, so I got the Smoked Salmon Benedict. There were generous heaps of smoked salmon under two perfectly poached eggs, but I didn’t like the thick slices of tomato that were under the salmon. I don’t see any mention of tomato in any of the reviews for this dish, so I’m not sure if it was supposed to be included, but I’m not a huge fan of tomato, so I wasn’t a huge fan of this dish. The pork in the Pulled Pork Hash was tender and smoky and that block of hash brown it comes on is something else. The Poppy Burger is equally as impressive; a huge stack of three buns and meat overflowing with coleslaw and thousand island — it was pretty good, if not a little hard to eat and a touch dry. The Rib Tip Burrito is a bit small, but good — I loved the sweetness lent by the ribs and bbq sauce. The Biscuits and Gravy were probably the most disappointing; there was not enough salt or flavor to cut through the richness of the bland gravy. Overall, I ate too much and fell asleep soon after my meal. But that’s not the point of the story; the point is, I will remember Poppy + Rose for the Fried Chicken Sandwich and will be back for more of the same.

Very soothing, refreshing breakfast brunch restaurant discreetly nestled within the Flower District… Weekend line and crowd justifies the superbness of this creatively innovative comfort food. We each got the Lumberjack breakfast and substituted out the bacon or sausage option for the signature crispy fried juicy brined chicken($ 14.50/entrée), WOW — tender brined chicken heaven!!! Combined with maple syrup, fluffy buttermilk pancakes, crispy thick hash brown, and poached eggs. What else could I ask for? Also, had to get the signature homemade biscuit with jam($ 3.50). I would say this is ONE of the most UNFORGETTABLY tasty brunches I have ever had. 0% guilt, 100% ENJOYMENT — I guess I’m just that easy to please… hahaha!

We couldn’t leave town without stopping by Poppy + Rose for brunch! This restaurant is tucked into the heart of the Flower District and was a little difficult to track down after parking in the recommended parking structure. Once we stumbled into the restaurant, we immediately ordered our food at the counter and sat at a table by the window. The entire restaurant is bathed in the floral aromas from the flower market and gave it a magical touch. The décor is simple but the atmosphere was intimate. I checked in on Unilocal to get a free cup of coffee and helped myself to the milk and sugar located just to the side of the registers. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle arrived picture perfect. The large rectangular waffle had a nice crunch and the chicken was deliciously crisp. The honey butter worked well with the sweet and savory flavors. I requested hot sauce and was pleased to find out that they make the sauce as well. It was not the spiciest sauce I’ve had, but it worked for me because I prefer only a nice little kick. My two friends ordered the Biscuits + Gravy with fried eggs over easy. The gravy had a great consistency and the biscuits held their structure against the gravy. The mixed green salad that comes with the dish was a refreshing break from the rich gravy. My friends had to be begged not to lick the plates clean because they loved the dish so much. It was a very pleasant meal and we never felt rushed to leave. The customer service was great and I loved the simplicity of the interior design. I will definitely be stopping by again when I return to town.

Man, this particular place is kind of a weird shop I must say. It’s actually a hidden gem of brunch spot, P+R is the cheery brainchild of Chef Michael Reed and husband and wife of duo Chef Ryan and Diana Lamon, who also run Peach’s Smokehouse, a Southern comfort food truck. For their venture, the trio was initially attracted to the Flower District, then a culinary No Man’s Land, due to the rising costs of property in trendier areas of downtown. Since this place was established nearly couple yrs ago back in July 2014, P+R has cemented for itself a unique identity, one that brings a rich country flavor to the well-worn neighborhood. Christopher guest should do something on the Flower District — «There’re just so many stories to be told» as Diana who picks up seasonal blossoms from the Southern California Flower Market next door to create an arrangement that brighten up and adorn each tree able, said. The restaurant itself comes a bit gentrified, perhaps expected for a place that looks and sounds like this in a neighborhood as such. Oh well, that’s what’s cool in DTLA now, right??? Prices reflect such, as do the menu descriptions. What the **** are Kennebec fries? I’ll explain why and how special they are. As for the food, expect homestyle comfort fare with a sense of nostalgia. The delectably aromatic chicken and waffles, for instance, are a subtle nod to Ryan Lamon’s mom who first taught to him how to prepare & cook fried chicken. The rest of P+R’s highly Instagrammable breakfast offerings — locally sourced brew from Forge Coffee, fresh-baked biscuits, grain bowl served in hot skillets; tell a story from a particular place, warm and quaint, to a brand new hosts of patrons. It’s a taste of a home away from home, made for someone new. Q. Kennebec fries? We got these cause we are complete and total suckers, meaning that the name sold it to us. A quick Google search informed us that Kennebec is actually just about the single most common spices of potato ever, at least here in US, meaning not a single thing at all is unique to this dish, nor outstanding as a side. Quite honestly, they were disappointingly normal French Fries that took a little extra effort to finish, partially due to the quantity of food ordered for the table and partially because they just weren’t that great which I wouldn’t bother. My thoughts about the foods that I’ve tried so far with my partner. I. Forge Coffee — if I do recall it correctly, Forge Coffee here is free, so more power to you imbibers of liquid scourage. My companion of the day enjoyed the drink, but he’s also huge fan of Coffee Beans, so I expect the discerning third wavers to naysay that opinion immediately. I still think that it’s a nice touch. II. Buttermilk biscuits — Biscuits are pretty damn good, although not super flaky, there’re some of the better country biscuits here in LA. III. Sausage Gravy — It’s simply the best thing I had tough, incredibly peppery, and savory. NOT feel overly heavy/greasy somehow, and tasted absolutely glorious. The biscuits here are well suited to the Gravy as well in terms of texture. You can order a single biscuit for 3 bucks, and a side of Gravy for only 2 bucks somehow. As a $ 5 breakfast, I would almost say that is one of the best deals in the entire city, and if you weren’t starving like I happened to be, a single biscuit + Gravy side would definitely sustain you. WINNER. IV. Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle aka their signature dish — This dish was better than I had expect, and better than what I’ve had before in the realm of Chicken and Waffle. This one hasn’t quite converted me though, and I still don’t think combination is something I actually believe belong together in principle. The ingredients don’t clash nearly as much as they did in Black Hogg tough, and the chicken and wings are fried nicely, pleasantly moist rather than stringy. The Waffle proved better than IHOP, a high honor from the five years out there, I’m told. V. Eggs Benedict — This formed a much better companion to brunch, a restaurant typical and for a good reason. The taste itself was absolutely winning, and the poached egg, hollandaise, and smoked salmon combined delightfully. The plating obviously leaves a lot to be desired, not just in plate itself but the salad and Benedict too. Even so, I can wholeheartedly recommend this one, and it does the job. VI. Brownie — Delicioso, as even though we were full by the time the pillaging of this one commenced, it was fully pillaged. For those wondering, that succulent is from the adjacent flower market, courtesy of my very good friend. Therefore, this is definitely a must go spot if you are venturing out in DTLA and in need for some serious breakfast, brunch or lunch…

I came here for brunch on a Saturday with a friend. It’s right next to the LA Flower Market(Flower District) so it’s a great place to stop by for brunch if you’re heading to the flower mart anyway, which is exactly what we did. The place is really cute and hipstery with lots of natural sunlight and cute ranunculus arrangements on each table. The place was packed and we waited for about 20 minutes before we got seated at the communal table. Unilocal Tip: If you check in, you get a free cup of Forge coffee! :) You order everything at the counter before getting seated so make sure you check in when you get there if you want to claim this. My friend and I shared the Chicken & Waffle and the Pulled Pork Hash w/over medium eggs. Between the two, I liked the Pulled Pork Hash more. It was DELICIOUS! I was surprised at how much I liked it because I usually don’t love pulled pork. But with the crispy hash and perfectly over medium eggs and arugula, it was savory balanced perfection. I’d definitely get this again! The chicken & waffle was good too but not that special. Service was great! :) Parking: street/meter or public lots

Im actually rating this place 4.5 stars, BUT since I love the food so much, I rounded it to 5. Anyways, Poppy & Rose is one of those restaurants where you line up to order your food & then they will seat you. ** At first it was confusing because they do not want you to block the doorway since it’s small and it’s near the cashier. So they make you wait outside and they will let only a few groups inside at a time. (To the restaurant: PLEASE have a line organization outside in place because it’s so confusing. People were getting called inside without the right order of when they first got there!) Ok so you ordered & got seated. Cool. Food came out quickly… and was eaten quickly lol. Everything here was DELICIOUS! I recommend the chicken and waffles & pulled pork hash! The pulled pork hash had that crispy block of potato on the bottom that just gave texture and it completed the dish!!! The pulled pork had flavor! Chicken & waffles. Chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned! Waffle was light and crispy. The syrup was on point and not too sweet! & inside, it’s such a cute place! Ugh I will say no more!

Poppy + rose has a great idea and location. Nestled in downtown by the flower market area was a great idea. To have a nice restaurant where no other restaurant is, great!!! My girlfriend had been wanting to come her for a long time and she said when ever we are in the downtown area we were gonna partake. So we did. I was game at first but after having experienced the food and service here, I’m over it. I have a couple of gripes about this place. U order at the counter which is no biggy. And then u are able to sit yourself which is cool. They bring your food out to u at the table which is normal. Nobody checked up on us. I had to go get our own refills. The food was bland and boring. The hash brown was a hard square block shaped like a brownie. The pancakes tasted like they weren’t even cooked. Tasted raw ugh. They don’t have fountain drinks. I felt like I was at a fast food place instead of a actual restaurant restaurant liked this place seemed.

For those looking for a bit of a break from looking for flowers at the famed LA Flower District(I’m looking at you event planners and potential newlyweds), Poppy + Rose offers a nice place to sit down, grab a bite to eat or drink a nice cup of coffee. I had a cubano sandwich, which was well sized and pretty tasty overall but lacking a bit of the savoriness I’ve often associated with other cubano sandwiches — I suspect the bread wasn’t buttered enough and there wasn’t enough mustard. However, the excellent potato salad I had as a side was refreshing and the locally roasted Forge coffee was the smoooooth pick me up I really needed at the time. The people who work here are very nice. I also love the rustic yet welcoming interior of Poppy + Rose — its wooden tables and white walls and REAL floral table arrangements make you forget you’re in an area of LA not known for having the most welcoming streets.

A hidden gem in the flower district. Such a smart location, right across the street from the Original Flower District. Yes, this place is known for bit of a wait but we got lucky, we got plucked from the small line since we were only a party of two. Order at the front and we were taken to a table. Food came out shortly after we were sat. Below is the breakdown of what we had: Eggs Benedict with Tomato: Paired with a garden salad with a to die for biscuit. Each bite was sinfully delicious. I can see why the biscuits are offered as side, I could eat that alone all day. Short Stack Plain pancakes, came with the usual sides of butter and syrup. The magic is in the batter, so light and fluffy. Chicken and Waffles Sweet + Savory = heaven in earth. Totally lived up to it’s hype. Chicken was perfectly breaded and seasoned. Waffle was perfectly cooked. Each bite was worth the calorie. Parking was such a breeze. Lots of free metered parking(on Sundays) within walking distance of the restaurant. I also heard rumors of a parking structure nearby with free validation with a $ 15 purchase all though I no longer saw a sign about such a deal at the cashier as I had seen on Unilocal. Would I go back? Absolutely!

Un endroit complètement hipster. Tellement qu’il en devient aussi surfait que les bimbos des plages. Mais que pouvions nous attendre d’autre de DTLA ??? On y petit déjeune SUPERBIEN !
