Great lunch joint. I love that they have a photo menu. That’s probably the best thing a restaurant can provide. They have Claypot Catfish(Ca Kho To) which is one of my favorite Vietnamese comfort food. This was well made and delicious! Lover got the shaking beef which I thought tasted funky, but he seemed to enjoy it. Great hidden gem in the wall!

I had the Hainan chicken. It was considerably good. Small hidden restaurant in Chinatown.

I really wanted to give this place a four or five but I just can’t. So anytime I hear hainam chicken, I think Savoy and instantly get ridiculously hungry. I try not to compare most places to Savoy because Savoy is simply sexy and not everyone can be sexy. Phu café was within walking distance, had two good reviews so I gave it a shot. When I got in, there were 3 — 4 tables occupied although the ghetto shopping plaza its located in had NOBODY. The Cantonese lady was nice, spoke English, and took my to-go order with no problem. My only gripe is that I asked for hot sauce and she said it was in the packaging… it wasn’t. The chicken was good. Meat fell off the bone, well seasoned, and tasty great with the sweet sour sauce they provided but very average. The rice was delicious, i think they cooked it in some sort of broth or butter. Tasty. They give you a cup of chicken broth type soup too that was not bad. $ 6.50 out the door. I’ll probably go back to try the chicken phở since everyone in there was eating it. Hainam Chicken? probably not.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for quite some time! If you like hainan chicken rice or phở chicken noodle, this is my favorite hainan chicken rice. No joke, the rice is flavorful like hainan rice should be and the chicken is tender, juicy and fresh. The place doesn’t have the best location and that is why it’s pretty quiet here. the chicken noodle is also awesome! if you are looking for a good meal at a great price, give this place a try! i’ve had Hainan chicken rice all around the country and even in singapore. It’s not as good as singapore but it is the best that i’ve tried outside of singapore.

wow… i guess if u want to be a hidden gem, u open up a shop in chinatown. this is my aunt’s fave chx phở place. she drags everyone here. and everyone loves it! too bad chinatown is dying a slow, painful death. my aunts said chinatown used to be hella bustling on weekends. parking used to be nuts. it’s easy now. just pay 3 bucks in the big lot down the street. i had the chx porridge. didnt expect it to be so good, c’mon it’s just porridge! but man, it was really freakin good! nice, clean taste. lots of high quality chx breast meat at the bottom. no one knows wut the rest of the menu tastes like cuz they just eat chx phở. i’ll make sure i’ll try the rest of it… …oh yeah, possibly *better* than homemade!
