Mr. Baguette I love you. But like any complicated relationship I can only award you 3 stars. Is it wrong to assign stars to relationships? Definitely. not. Also I find it VERY weird that this location isn’t even listed on the Mr. Baguette website. only the 3 in SGV and the Westminster one are listed… kinda makes you think what sort of conspiracy is going on. Mulder & Scully. get on this mystery NOW. Don’t get me wrong Mr. Baguette is one of my FAVORITES when it comes to Banh Mi and I absolutely love Mr. Baguette. The original location in San Gabriel and the others that have opened up in SGV are very dear to me. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because I feel like this location is not up to par as the SGV ones. But I am sure glad this location exists in DTLA cause now I can go get Banh Mi’s for lunch anytime I please! If you’ve never been to Mr. Baguette the Banh Mi — #1 Special is the way to go. Ham, Pork, Cheese Head, and Pâté make this the best Sandwich here. The bread from Mr. Baguette is another reason why this is such a good sandwich. The whole combination along with Cilantro and pickled carrots make this amazing. Just writing this review makes me want to go grab one for lunch. They also serve Phở and Udon here. which is what a lot of patrons get and I’m not one to judge but… It’s called Mr. Baguette — just saying. Now for the reasons I deducted stars from something I enjoy eating so much. Well the price is super inflated. I don’t remember paying more than $ 5 for the special in SGV but it’s $ 6.99 here for the 12 inch. That’s. significantly more which goes to show you how much I love Mr. Baguette since I will gladly pay the premium to gobble down this Banh Mi. Also the menu is limited — no drinks like the other locales. Also, one time I came at lunch and the owner said sorry no bread. They were in the process of baking it and it would be 20 minutes until it was ready. Only Phở & Udon were available. Keep in mind this was at like 12:30PM in the middle of lunch, and Mr. «Baguette» was out of bread. They were out of the ONE thing they were supposed to sell. That’s like Pizza Hut running out of Pizza. And keep in mind it’s not easy getting to this location. And if you aren’t able to find it — It’s inside the Westin Hotel on the 6th Floor. Now imagine going all this way and they are out of Bread. Good thing I love Mr. Baguette…

Favorite banh mi place! I always get their Special Combo number 1. Not exactly too sure what meats are inside the sandwich, but it’s the one with all the meats inside. It’s delicious so I don’t really care what’s inside. I know it has pâté spread on the sandwich so if you don’t like that, you might not like this sandwich. I also have gotten the chicken banh mi. which is surprisingly really delicious. I didn’t order this since a coworker had bought it for our company. If I never tried the chicken banh mi, I would’ve never had the opportunity to eat it since I would’ve never thought of ordering a chicken banh mi. Chicken is not the first type of meat that goes through my head when ordering one of these things. However, after trying this, I would definitely order the chicken ones in the future. The chicken was very flavorful and not dry at all. If you like spicy stuff, don’t forget to put the jalepenos in! That’s part of the best part of the sandwich. One down side to this particular location is that I think it is a little more expensive than the sgv Mr Baguette locations.

This review is for the phở, which is the one dish that brings me here. At the risk of oversharing, I like phở quite a lot, but I absolutely crave it when I have a head cold. A big bowl of broth(with or without the noodles, meat, and veggies) would be appealing enough under these circumstances, but add the fresh lime juice and the fresh sliced chile peppers, and there is no better way to get your sinuses’ attention. Truth be told, I would choose Blossom instead 10 times out of 10, if it weren’t for the schlep. Blossom has a wider variety, including a delicious chicken broth. But Mr. Baguette is so much more conveniently located to Bunker Hill.

Not bad. Got a large grilled pork banh mi and an iced coffee. Both are decent for this out if the way(unless you happen to be in the Bonaventure) place. It’s got a spacious seating area high on the 6th floor of the hotel. Oddly, I used to live down the street when I worked at the LA Times so good memories in here.

Okay banh mi if you’re in a pinch and don’t mind getting lost in the maze that is the Bonaventure. Haven’t tried the phở or any of the other noodle dishes. I do have to give them props for the bread. Always nice, good crust, and toasted just right. Everything else is just, meh. And they are pretty consistent about being inconsistent. Sometimes my sandwiches have all the pickled veggies and cilantro and jalapeños, sometimes they don’t or are missing something I’d recommend checking your order before you leave. Also, don’t go there for the premixed café sua da. It’s way too sweet.

Absolutely love this place!(Few misses so cant give a 5 star) I have been visiting this place for years now and always visited for the Phở soup. Really tasty and not expensive. This place use to be a burger joint but their main dish was the Phở soup so they finally figured out to lean on that. They are now a sandwich and Phở soup place which is a much better combination. I have also tried their grilled chicken baguette and it was also pretty good. The customer service side is usually good, food comes out pretty quickly as well. It is located inside the Westin Bonaventure so they don’t get the traffic that street establishments get. This could be good and bad though since I think it would be busier and more profitable if they did, then again, they would be packed more often. The interior I think needs some work. There’s little to no décor at this place but most people are there to go and drink their Phở and go back to work. I think it would be a little nice if they did at least some décor on the inside though. I will be back here nonetheless.

I go to MR. Baguette all the time for lunch. I usually get the soy meat sandwich and it is so good and fresh. The restaurant is also very clean and the service is fast and great. This is a great place for lunch!

So happy that there’s a Vietnamese sandwich shop in downtown. Just had lunch there with a group so I was able to try a sandwich and their udon soup and both were delicious. This is going to be my be go to lunch spot! :-)

So Much Potential. But definitely missed the mark! Error number 1, setting up shop in the Westin Bonaventure, a dying, maze-like, dark, hold on to your butts, geometric, rape alley, mall-like, dead hotel located on 5th and Flower. Error number 2, located on the highest floor in a corner where no one can find you. Luckily I am in Love with Café Sua Da(Vietnamese coffee) So I went and dragged my coworkers up all 6 flights of stairs looking for this mystical restaurant only to show up to an empty restaurant serving sad bowls of phở and even ramen!

Pretty good sandwiches! Breakfast sandwiches are served all day($ 4 or $ 5 /for 8″ or 12″). Meatloaf and egg is delicious. I was delightfully surprised to see the egg was a fried one rather than scrambled(not a fan of scrambled eggs). Lunch sandwiches are great too, and again to my surprise, taste authentic enough with nicely toasty bread($ 5-$ 6 or $ 7-$ 8 /for 8″ or 12″). Don’t consider sharing because you will be left hungry though. Vietnamese iced coffee has a strange super sweet taste to it and is served with 90% crushed ice. The sweetness is an odd flavor. I think it’s condensed milk but a weird type. They also serve phở, ramen, and udon. I tried the phở once before it became Mr. Baguette and it was pretty good. satisfied my noodle craving. Main problem with this place is slow service and weird layout. Trying to order sometimes feels like you’re bothering them and there’s never a line. Somehow ingredients still taste fresh despite this. Love the location even if others find it strange. Sixth floor of the Westin Bonaventure, somewhat across from Subway. I have fun visiting it.

I ate her for the first time today. I’m working on a business project downtown and saw a flyer for this place. The staff is super nice, but the food is really disappointing. I ordered the chicken baguette — the skimp on the chicken and it tasted pretty bland. For what I got, $ 5.99 is overpriced. My search for a good lunch time place close to my work that’s not too expensive continues.

This place is more expensive than the normal Mr. Baguette probably because the rent is higher in this area. My coworker wanted to come here. I thought the baguettes were terrible here. I’m not sure why it is so bad since they should taste like the ones I the sgv but they don’t. I also saw several people offering phở here which I thought was crazy since Chinatown is only a 5 to 10 minute drive away.

A little more expensive than the SGV location, there aren’t any sesame baguettes, and maybe they skimp on the fillings a bit, but all in all a great addition to the downtown area for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast get the egg and pâté sandwich with extra pâté and a little hot sauce.

It was a good sandwich, although a little pricey at $ 7. I ended up saving 1⁄3 of it for a snack later. I wish they would offer the sandwich that’s pictured on their menu. The Bonaventure is also a total labyrinth so don’t fret if you get lost trying to figure out where it is.

When I saw this place was in downtown LA and within walking distance I thought, SCORE! After going thru the crazy labyrinth of the Bön-adventure my co-worker and I finally found this place! First bad sign of this place was it was D-E-A-D! that’s never positive! I placed an order for the grilled pork banh mi. I was pretty disappointed in my sandwich. What happened the pickled radish?! my sandwich was stuffed with carrots. Lots and lots of carrots! Just doesn’t taste the same without them. The cashier I thought was a little hilarious though as he reminded me of the duck father from kung fu panda! I should’ve got the phở… doubt I’ll walk back over here. Was def. not worth it! Esp when I can get a BOMB tasting sandwich in Alhambra for half the price!

This place was okay, but kind of on the mediocre side. Mr. Baguette replaced an older Phở place. As far as I can see, other than a few changes in the décor and adding Bahn Mi sandwiches, the place didn’t change that much. I went with a co-worker for a lunch and neither of us were particularly impressed. He had, I believe the grilled chicken. I opted for the Saigon Bacon. Frankly, the bahn mis that I have had from Nom Nom and the Mandoline Grill were quite a bit better. My bahn mi was mostly bread, which was okay, but the ratio was way off I thought. There was barely enough meat in it to get some in each bite. The vegetables in it were also kind of lacking. They didn’t have the same sweet pickled flavor I have noticed from having the other similar sandwiches.

I was really excited to see a real Bahn Mi place open in downtown. When I ate there I was shocked. It was actually better than Lee’s Sandwiches on several fronts. Given that Lee’s is pretty much ubiquitous in So Cal, below is my chart that I based my assessment on: Baguette — Mr. Baguette’s bread is so much better. This isn’t even a contest. Five years ago Lee’s had good Baguettes but the quality has gone down recently. Mr. Baguette’s bread is nearly perfect. Price — Lee’s wins this contest. You could buy two or maybe three sandwiches at Lee’s(although if you get an iced coffee then you will pay back the difference). Pâté — Lee’s tastes like it is one step up from cat food. Mr. Baguette’s pâté is really good. Mr. Baguette wins. Other meats — Tie in taste, although you get more(but pay for it) with Mr. Baguette. Pickles — Mr. Baguette has only carrot. I miss the flavor of the daikon, but not the smell. I would have to say that Lee’s wins on pickles. Overall — Mr. Baguette is a superior Bahn Mi(unless you are really into pickles). There may be better places out there, but you can’t beat the location if you work in Downtown LA.

I’m glad there is a real Banh Mi in downtown. I would rather pay more to go here than take the DASH to Chinatown. The bread is really good. Just like the store in the SGV.

Yay! I was happy to see Mr Baguette in downtown. Sandwich menu: special, pâté meatloaf, saigon bacon, garlic sausage, grilled beef, grilled chicken, grilled pork, veggie ham, veggie turkey, veggie fish, ham & egg, meatloaf & egg, pâté & egg and ground pork. Ordered 8″ pâté meatloaf and ca phe sua da. 8″ pâté meatloaf($ 4.99): pâté meatloaf is my favorite banh mi from Mr. Baguette. It’s almost as good as the one in SGV. I switch from Lee’s sandwich to Mr. Baguette because of the sesame bread. Too bad this place doesn’t have that option. Ca phe sua da($ 3.49): I ordered ca phe sua da and the girl was like huh? Vietnamese iced coffee. oh okay. It’s almost as good as the one in SGV too. The price seems to be $ 1 more than the other Mr. Baguette locations. This place also has ramen and phở. The phở picture is the same as the phở from its previous tenant-Happy Cow– so I dont bother ordering the phở. There is a reason why Happy Cow closed down. I took some of my friends to Happy Cow and every one of them hated it. Maybe one day I will try their phở but I am super picky when it comes to phở. Great service. Credit cards are accepted but they need to fix the phone line. The credit card machine doesn’t work when someone is calling the restaurant. 3.5 stars! Mr. Baguette is kinda yummylicious!
