Really neat place! I was looking for a sandwich place and this place popped up on my search and the location was so unique, I had to try it. Who goes to City Hall just for food? Anyway, the entrance is on Main Street, and you have to go through security and get a Visitor badge to go to 2nd floor. It’s not much of a restaurant since people just order, pick up their food and leave, but there’s plenty of seating out in the hallway. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Angela’s Potion, and wow this was an amazing meal. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich had some amazing ingredients, such as asiago cheese, roasted peppers, and pesto mayo. Pairing that with Angela’s Potion was perfect. On the bottle, it says it’s made of spinach and mint limeade. While I’m not a juicer or have ever juiced anything, this was a very interesting drink. Very nice trip! The security guard recommended that I go to the top floor(after researching on Unilocal,it’s the 27th floor) to see the observation deck. What a nice lunch break: D

Healthy food at reasonable prices that supports a great cause. Stop in if you are on jury duty and looking for an alternative to the courthouse cafeteria; it is on the second floor of City Hall. With pre-packaged salads, fresh juice and pastries from the Homegirl Café, excellent coffee, bottled water, fruit and sandwiches, you will find yourself a tasty lunch that you can eat in the historic City Hall building or take to Grand Park for a picnic. Either way you’re golden.

I decided to come here for lunch since it was walkable distance from the courthouse around the area. I had jury duty so I didn’t want to drive my car elsewhere for lunch. I got the turkey avocado sandwich and a bottle of vitamin water. Came out to a little over $ 9. The sandwich was pretty filling and they give a lot of avocado. Everything is freshly made on the spot. Located inside the city hall on the second floor.

So I took a little walk to the LA city hall after being released for lunch during jury duty. .ugh… so since I had nothing better to do with my time I Unilocaled, and found a sandwich place only .2 miles from the courthouse(one of the many in this area). Homeboy is located in the DTLA city hall on the second floor, the main entrance is on main st., I stopped in and grabbed a sandwich. I ordered the Turkey Avocado on their jalapeño bread, the sandwich was great! The bread was not spicy but had great flavor, lightly toasted and full of lots of Turkey avocado, veggies and herb mayo. The sandwiches are made to order but they also have salads ready made and pastries too. Price was good as well, I paid 11.00 for a huge sandwich, chips, a cookie and a Snapple. Great service too; I had my dirty Coffee Bean tumbler with me from the morning and the guy washed it out and filled it up with ice for my Snapple! I would definitely be back if I was in this area again.. hopefully not too soon. Crossing my fingers last day of jury duty. …

I visited this café because of how close it is to one of the courthouses I was serving jury duty at. As a consequence, my car was parked a few blocks away, and I didn’t want to waste my lunch walking to and from my car to get food. This café is located inside City Hall on the second floor, and the added experience of visiting the monument added to the novelty of the experience. It is a very beautiful building. The café itself is quaint, but modern; it is small but sufficient. I was in the mood for something healthy as opposed to the delicious but taxing food trucks. The menu includes nice sandwiches, soups, salads, fruits bowls, juices, and coffees. I ordered the turkey avocado, with some chips, and a cappuccino. It came to about $ 12, but it was worth it. The sandwhich was pretty large and packed with nice toppings. A very nice meal, timely too. An added plus to this café is their aim toward improving the lives of those predisposed to crime and punishment. This café offers a pathway toward civil citizenship for past criminals or individuals in need of ethical support. Very nice. I would eat here again, but only if I am in DTLA for other business. I try to avoid DTLA because of parking and prices, but otherwise a nice healthy stop with character.

I remember when this opened. There was a story in the LA Times. Since then, I’ve always wanted to visit. The eatery was very small. There were a couple of counters and shelves that were empty. Could’ve been that they didn’t have enough time or staff to manage it. I ordered my BLT with a bottle of Mexican Coke and got it in 5 minute so it was fast. The bread had good texture and the salad was still cold, while the bacon was warm. Very freshly made. The clerk was friendly and was taking the ordering and payment as well as making the sandwich. This place deserves a visit. I love the premise behind the store and will support it!

I was surprised to see salmon as one option for prepackaged salads, and bought one. I was disappointed on two counts — only a small portion of salmon, and the dressing was more like pineapple juice. You might try substituting ranch or Italian instead. Nevertheless, went back in and treated myself to a chocolate chip cookie, but was disappointed with that too. A good cause, but I doubt I’ll go back.

Working in City Hall, I often come here in the afternoon for a pick-me-up. They’re located on the 2nd floor of Los Angeles City Hall, and are open M-F 6 – 5. First, the beverages. Their coffee is pretty good, and reasonably priced. It isn’t gourmet, but it is very decent. Their espresso drinks are decent. They do have the addition of Mexican chocolate for your drinks, which adds a kick of sweet spice and is a great way to switch up a hot chocolate or a mocha. They have white chocolate as well. They sell a variety of bottled beverages, along with some snacks like yogurt and boiled eggs. They have a pastry counter with bagels, breads, muffins, and the like. Their zucchini bread is what I go for, as it stands out more than the rest and is a healthier alternative. They have pre-packaged salads from Homegirl that are very flavorful and contain more than just lettuce, and actually satiate you. They also have sandwiches, that are fairly priced, and if you go on a Friday evening they sometimes have $ 5 sandwiches. Good when you’re in City Hall and need food or coffee!

I previously updated this review based upon a bad experience involving cold soup. Since then, I’m pleased to say that I haven’t come across that experience a second time and on two separate occasions, I was actually told that the soup was not yet ready. So why still the deduction of one star? Well, since that time, Homeboy has acquired a few new staff members at their City Hall location. I’m not going to single anybody out in this review, but their attitudes really couldn’t be any worse; It is quite literally border-line rude. By the way they respond or lack-thereof, I honestly feel like I’m burdening them whenever I order something. Seriously, lighten up a little. Fortunately, some of their older staff are still there and they are the complete opposite of these newer staff members. To the more veteran staff, thank you for your always consistent and polite demeanor; if there were a way for me to tip you separately, their would be no hesitation on my end.

This place is great. The food is fantastic. I had the open face torta. It was great and the cucumber juice they have is a must order. The cause of homeboy industries and what they are striving to do in the community adds a extra bonus to eating here.

The food and drinks are exceptional. But the service is terrible! Waited 20 – 30 mins for the waitress to notice we were here. I Approached two employees asking for a server before someone came. Then came the attitude. You need to give yourself at least 1 – 2 hours to eat here.

They now make-to-order sandwiches for breakfast. My favorite combo is the rosemary rye, egg, bacon sandwich with pepperjack cheese. Spicy and delicious! Great way to start your day. Their pre-packaged salads are the perfect eat at your desk lunch.

Buy a loaf of bread! Take home a loaf of their cinnamon(with or without raisins), it’s to die for good. Use it for French toast(topped with a little ice cream scoop) or just toasted and buttered. Love, love, love the French bread sliced loaf. I sometimes get the bread when they’re at the Farmer’s Market on Sundays on Motor Ave. and National(Palms/Culver City)…but if you don’t go early, you miss out on the cinnamon and/or French bread. I drove there on Sunday hoping to get bread, but they were closed. They had been open on a Sunday a few months back. I hope they open for Sunday brunch. I’d make the drive!

Very convenient place to grab a cup of coffee/tea and some snacks right inside City Hall. Pricing is actually cheaper than Starbucks(with the great advantage of not tasting burnt). Service is also very friendly and the café offers free wifi and lots of seating outside in the hallway. They also sell sandwiches, snacks(chips, candy, etc), sodas, etc.

This was my fourth day of jury duty at the DTLA courthouse and I was still searching for decent vegan-friendly food in within walking distance. When I discovered that Homeboy Café was located at City Hall, I took a leisurely stroll around the block, through the metal detector, and to the info desk for a visitor’s pass. Homeboy Café is on the second floor. It’s small but it has variety. A vegan soup was on the menu but only available on certain days of the week. So I checked the salads for something I could eat. The Smash It Up, Homegirl looked interesting to me. The name of the dish makes me think that it’s created with leftover ingredients. But I’m not complaining! This mix of greens, edamame, red and green bell pepper, corn, pepitas, sesame seeds, and more was super hearty, very fresh, and tasty tasty especially with that citrus dressing. Angela’s Potion was a delicious mix of spinach, mint, and limeade. Very refreshing and totally hit the spot. The prices are the same as if I were to eat at the courthouse cafeteria so I would rather make the walk over to City Hall and support this nonprofit organization. It’s a good cause :)

really great service, everyone is super friendly. they let you sample stuff, which is great! the food is decently priced. i tried a spinach tamale that was stuffed with cheese and corn, and came with homemade salsa verde. the tamales are small, which is fine because they are cheap, and that way you can try different ones at once.
