Unless people are rating this place for the entertainment, I am not sure how it has such a great rating. The cheese on my pizza was not melted and the crust was made out of dry flat bread. It looked like something you could cook in 5 minutes after stopping by trader joes. It was flavorless and very over priced for what it was. The people who worked there were nice and friendly, but I felt bad for them because it was 7pm on a Friday night and my husband and I were the only ones there. Not going back.

CLOSED as of 8÷25÷14 This place was GREAT, was because it’s last day open was Aug. 24, 2014, it has permanently closed. Donny & Lori and their staff were good people who served great food and a very reasonable price. I never had a bad meal there and they were always so happy to see all of their regular customers and welcomed new ones. Unfortunately, the a. hole owner of the bar next door, O’Connels, which owns the building kicked them out. O’Connel’s is a dump and now without having the ability to order off the menu, the dive bar is going to loose all but it’s more hardcore afternoon alcoholic crowd.

So hidden, I’ve driven past it for years now and never noticed it. They’ve got a great selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The back patio is a peaceful spot. As soon as you’re done you can walk right through a doorway and find yourself standing in a bar. What an interesting combo. Eat healthy, drink carcinogens and do your laundry right across the street? What a fascinating dance of life… Nourish yourself, don’t take things too serious and remember everyone’s got dirty laundry, it’s nothing a handful of quarters can’t fix.

Definitely a great place for all kinds of diets. My girlfriend and I are vegan and the owners are so accommodating to our dietary needs. It’s a hip, laid back, fun atmosphere with cool art and a very home like ambiance. The veggie patty is amazing! Thank you for being a jewel in Long Beach!

When I moved back to the LBC I was excited to see that a new place had opened attached to OConnells. We arrived for dinner, mid week. Only customers there. A cat was roaming around inside the eating area. I ordered the soup of day for appetizer. It came with a bowl of crackers. When I went to get some crackers, a HUGE roach crawled out of the bowl and across my hand. Freaked me out. Will never forget the feeling of it running over my hand. Needless to say we left. The owner was nice enough to not charge us for our drinks. I can’t comment on the food, but between the cat and the roach, we will never return.

Shillelagh is a small eatery attached to O’Connel’s on 4th st. The food is standard pub fare. Food — 3 stars I’ve eaten there twice now and had the burger and tri tip sandwich. They were both OK, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get either. Food’s no frills, but soaks up all the alcohol you’ve consumed at O’Connel’s. Service — 3 stars I’ve been twice in the last two months and the service lagged each time — I’ve always ordered from the bar, perhaps it’s better if you order in the actual restaurant area. 20 – 30 minutes for a sandwich or burger. Staff is friendly though. I’ll eat there again if I’m at the bar and too lazy to walk across the street to Café Neo. Shillelagh’s so-so.

Very unique place with very tasty food. It’s at the corner of 4th and Temple next door to O’Connel’s. Do not expect anything fancy in terms of décor here but the food is very good. There are vegetarian and vegan options and prices were excellent. But I repeat, do not come here expecting the hipster vibe of other places on 4th street.

By far one of the best restaurants in Long Beach. Nothing but excellent service from the owner and excellent food from the chef, who is his wife! I ordered the veggie burger, which was amazing from the top bun to the bottom bun, everything super fresh and handmade! My dad and boyfriend both agreed that their entrees(Mahi Mahi and BBQ chicken pizza) were top notch. The patio’s atmosphere was perfect for this little place and the music was spot on. I will definitely be back here again and again and again!

More than 4 stars for this place! Located behind an Irish pub, the look was deceptive. Once inside, i was pleased to see wonderfully decorated walls. Very vibrant layout match the very vibrant menu options. I have not been let down by the food or the service, oh, and its VEGE friendly! cheers!

As good as it gets! During a visit to Long Beach and being in the photographic zen zone at the Pike with my photo buddy and we decided to drop by this place for a visit. It’s been mentioned that the infamous«Veggie Burger» was well worth a paid visit. Upon recommendation, I concur that this place has an EXCELLENT veggie burger. But the secret to how I claim that this ranks amongst one of the best veggie burgers I ever had relies on the ingredients they use. It is served on a extremely fresh ingredients which includes the base –which is the bun. Which seems as if they prepare and bake it there. I didn’t have the opportunity to ask because as fate would pleasantly have it, the person serving us is a master photographer and so the pleasant experience shifted toward my curiosity of his craft. I will be back here again and again… It’s that good.

Can you say AWESOME?! Okay so I’m a really spontaneous person. I really just like to pick a new place to try whenever I’m hungry. Obviously Unilocal is my food guide. I’ve been to plenty of places where the reviews/rating weren’t true to what I read on Unilocal, but let me say, this one DOES. This is a hidden gem, more of a hole in the wall type of place. You aren’t going to get an upscale or glamorous dining experience. It’s still a bar on the other side of the restaurant. So please keep that in mind if you do decide to eat here. Food is delicious! I saw that in a lot of the photos here that people ordered the Irish Nachos, which aren’t really Nacho chips but fries instead and they’re just da . If you’re a chili cheese, French fries, Carne Asada fries, or just love potatoes in general get these as a meal or appetizer. It is large enough to be a meal and shared. I also had the tomato basil pizza, which was on point! It could’ve been a little more crispier but I wasn’t disappointed at all. I love tomato and basil Lays chips by the way. Service was good, maybe it was because I went during lunch where it was pretty quiet since kafe neo is right across from here. Overall if you can get over the décor, especially if you’re OCD and used to dining at nice restaurants. Then check this place out.

I guess you can’t always assume that what you expect an establishment with lots of 4 and 5-star ratings is going to be is the same as someone else’s idea of a 4 or 5-star establishment. I think this place falls far short of the 4 star rating. All the 4 and 5 star ratings people have given this place and claims of the best veggie burger in Long Beach made me think I couldn’t go wrong. I was craving an awesome veggie burger like I used to order from a burger joint in Atlanta called Farm Burger. So far, I’ve never run across one better so after reading reviews I was rather looking forward to checking this place out. It’s near the corner of 4th and Temple. When we arrived there was some live music being played by a 3 man band, which was kind of cool. The restaurant itself could use a visit from an interior designer or someone studying interior design. It just doesn’t flow in there and seemed a bit on the dirty side to me. Not hoarders dirty but just in need of a spring cleaning on a weekly basis. We were seated right away and I can’t say the service was bad at all. So I read the menu and spot the veggie burger and proceeded to order it with some fries without hesitation. I was happy with anticipation awaiting the burger to come from the kitchen and couldn’t wait to taste what I had read all about. It was served and I picked it up and bit right into it. This stale flavor permeated my mouth and it was all I could taste. I tried a couple more bites but set the burger on the plate with no desire to eat it any longer. The texture of it was like chocolate pudding and realizing I couldn’t taste anything but that stale taste, I was done. I’ve had better frozen veggie burgers than this. I left more than half the sandwich on the plate and was really disappointed. The fries weren’t bad, however, and I did eat all of them. I would have gone out of here still hungry if it weren’t for them and the Fat Tire. My date for the evening ordered a regular burger and he said his Barbecue Burger wasn’t that good. He ate all his fries as well, so I have to say that if you want some decent fries you won’t be disappointed here. Not quite as good as fries that are freshly cut to order but not bad. All in all, though, I wasn’t impressed enough to want to come back to Shillelagh.

I loved this place been wanting to stop in forever, I finally convinced my boss to check it out instead of Kafe Neos(Which is great too). The inside is plastered with very colorful canvas paintings which gives the place a very hippiess vibe as Jack Johnson plays in the back ground. The owner was actually working & cooking and offered us some veggie chili that he had made for dinner for himself and his wife the night before. I ordered the veggie omelet & added the chili, and my boss got the chili in a scramble plate. Mmmmm… I almost licked my plate it was so delicious. I will definitely be coming back in again to try something else. Service was great, and the food was amazing. I say four stars just because the place could use a little elbow grease, but overall it is a great find.

DISAPPOINTED. 3 stars for food and cute cat roaming restaurant. Did research, read Unilocal reviews and decided this would be a good place to bring my vegetarian lover for a brunch date without feeling forced to give up my carnivorous ways. Table wasn’t wiped down, forgot to bring out our waters, two orders had to be cancelled because they ran out of ingredients to make them, had to go to counter to ask for the check, and we spent a lot of time waiting when there really wasn’t anyone else there dining. *Huevos Rancheros* was good, but small. *Breakfast Burrito with veggie chorizo* was also good, but high on sodium. I believe the older man with white hair who was serving us is the owner and while he was very nice, we were VERY hungry. You know how that goes. Perhaps the restaurant was having an off day and we came at the wrong time so I’m willing to give this place another chance(my date refuses to come back *sadface*) and bringing my puppy with me in hopes I’ll have a better dining experience. I’ll keep you Unilocalers posted.

Sunday morning, no wait, seated right away. Only one server working so took a little bit longer for our drinks/food Irish Nachos were great, served on an iron skillet. Seasoned perfectly, fries were crispy, soy bacon bits, sour cream, pico de gallo, jalapenos & this yummy smoked salsa! It was a large portion, we shared it amongst 4 people + an order of their pancakes. Pancakes were fluffy with a little bit of a crisp from the pan. Cute rustic environment with patio seating. House cat that conveniently groomed itself as we ate. Lol, it added to the restaurant’s character.

Came to Long Beach to visit some friends for the weekend and after a lot of fun, we needed a strong bloody mary and some breakfast. We went to O’Connells and you can order food from here and they bring it over. I ordered the portuguese sausage scramble which was fantastic! Sausage, cheese, potatoes and onion, then topped with a tomato based red sauce. It was so good. Toast wasn’t toasted but was buttered which was weird, but oh well. BF ordered the Waffles with whipped cream and berries. Very fresh and delicious as well. I like my waffles a little on the crunchier side and this is what you get here. The berries were super fresh as was the whipped cream. Friends ordered the salmon bennie and the biscuits and gravy. Both seemed pleased and joined the clean plate club. I think it was about $ 40 total.

Shillelagh has an interesting menu to say the least. There’s bar food like Irish nachos, fried mushrooms, and pizzas, but they don’t serve real bacon. They have soy bacon. I find that a travesty but that’s ok. The fried mushrooms were tasty and so were the Irish nachos. The service was good and they take credit cards. There is a live band on the weekends which is really cool. I hear they have a good brunch but I’ll have to return someday and try it.

What a neat little brunch place. Came here on recommendation from a friend, ended up sitting in in a nice but odd courtyard patio I had no idea existed. Everyone working there was friendly and chill. They are dog friendly so a couple tables had friendly well behaved dogs with them. Ordered the items off their specials menu… Mine was just okay, but I think its cuz I’m starting to get sick of pork flavors and bacon. my friends were pleased with their dishes, and I enjoyed the taste I had of their eggs benedict style dishes. Will return anytime the missus has a brunch craving(guys don’t crave brunch :-))

Oh. My. Goodness. You know how sometimes when you eat something, the first few bites are always super amazing and you are bombarded with a rich overload of flavor? Well… eating at Shillelagh’s, you will be happy to find that this feeling is present throughout your entire meal, not just at the beginning. The inside is darling, with the front room having a cozy art-gallery vibe, and back outdoor patio feeling like your best friend’s backyard, complete with a mismatch assortment of lights, chairs, colors, décor, and creaking wood panel floors. You feel like a local when you walk in, like you’re visiting your homie and can order off-menu items to be cool. Brunch does not get any better than this. Oh wait. ITDOES. They serve breakfast ALLDAY. that’s right, that was not a typo. DELICIOUSMIND-BLOWINGBREAKFASTALLDAY. If you have a hard time deciding(like I most certainly did), just come back frequently and continue to be impressed. What a gem, it’s so refreshing to find a place like this when there are chains popping up everywhere.
