A favorite since the day they opened! A great upstairs patio to hang out on and meet friends for drinks, a seasonal menu with lots of unique bites, specialty drinks and beers… plus the donuts and coffee for dessert! Yumm! We have also tried their brunch… the mimosa service is top shelf with a tray of goodies and mixers!

I went here for my birthday, and it was also my first time here. We ordered the truffle fries, mac&shrooms, bone marrow, Kbbq(?!) lamb ribs, and pork chop. Parking: it’s downtown Long Beach. It’s awful. m if you’re not used to looking for street/neighborhood parking, but really, look for a spot. It’s worth it. Ambiance: very cozy lighting. Intimate, although the restaurant was full. There’s a dining area on the first floor and a lounge on the second floor/roof. Food & beverages: I have zero notes. I wish I did. Everything was amazing and some even surpassed what I thought it would be(the bone marrow and truffle fries, please do yourself a favor and order these pieces of heaven). We ordered so much food but had no leftovers to take home. It was that good. Being that it was my birthday, they were notified ahead of time and they came out with ice cream sandwiches with candles. Much to my pleasure, they didn’t make it awkward and sing Happy Birthday to me(thank you). *Note: we were able to request the pork chop to be split into two plates since we were told it was big and we had several other side orders. Also: an enormous thanks to our waiter JT for his amazing attention to detail with our dinner and drinks. We felt like we had a friend guiding us through our menu instead of just a waiter This is officially my favorite restaurant. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you!

I came to Saint & Second for brunch on a Sunday. Make sure to make reservations because the place can get pretty packed. I was here during the end of brunch, so there was a lot less people. I was worried that parking was going be a pain since it seems like all of the beachy restaurants always seem to have problems with parking. But, there was a lot close by and plenty of street parking. There was also neighborhood parking, but I am not sure if that’s permit only parking. The inside was SUPER cute, modern, and trendy. There was a lot of open space, which I definitely enjoyed. Since, I had reservation, there was no wait. The waitress was super nice and attentive. I looked over the menu and decided on the salmon, since I was craving something that was not breakfast food. The salmon came out and was decent. It was nothing spectacular, but was not awful. It also came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I did love the green sauce they had over the salmon. I thought it paired nicely with the fish. I also tried their dessert, which I also thought was average.(I actually don’t remember the dessert, which probably means that I thought it was just OK. LOL). Overall, I thought the ambience of this restaurant was perfect for brunch, but the food was just average. They also have a patio on the second floor(which is first come first serve). I definitely was to try that next time.

I really like this place. They have a fantastic menu, excellent cocktails, and great ambiance. Some things to note: the upstairs bar is really neat, but being in a neighborhood, it closes early. Bummer. The appetizers sound better to me than any of the entrees. We often pick a few and then share. The service is really good here. The wait staff are always quick, friendly, and full of suggestions, which is ideal when everything sounds good and you cannot make up your mind!

Such a delectable place with appetizing food. We arrived during the dinner hour, but were able to secure a table within a few minutes, even though there was a line. We were seated and served our drinks right away. I ordered a black bass, which was absolutely savory. I relished all of of it. The fish was cooked perfectly and it fell apart on my fork. The flavor burst in my mouth and melted so finely. This was the highlight of my meal. Service was excellent even though it was busy. We were never negletiged, and the server was sweet and polite. This is definetly a place I am coming back to visit.

Great restaurant in Long Beach! It’s two levels with a small outdoor patio on the first floor and a great open air bar area on the second floor. Menu has a lot of options. we opted for the lobster crab crake and burrata flatbread, but the duck meatballs are on my list to try next time. Parking could be challenging depending on when you come, but had no issues on a weeknight. There’s meter, lot and street parking all within a block.

I think I have found my favorite restaurant and lounge in Long Beach, not that I have tried all the restaurants in this area, but so far this one is definitely on top of my list! Place is huge with rustic industrial chic ambiance, and the seatings are so comfy and roomy, both restaurant and upstairs lounge. Came here to watch NBA finals, they only have limited small TVs at the bar and lounge, not the best way to watch sports, but I didn’t mind cause everything else was just PERFECT! Menu was awesome, they use the freshest ingredients from local farmers market, so a lot of organic and all natural stuffs! I loved it our waitress asked about our diet first, it was very thoughtful of her. We decided to do a few tapas and bigger plates. Tapas: Tomato soup was very thick with lots of tomatoes and bacon, hubby liked the flavors, but he would have preferred a bit more broth. Fresh oysters were so fresh and sweet, the sauces were awesome. Clams were fresh and tender, the spicy hominy broth was amazingly flavorful and comforting. Brussel sprouts with bacon on the side was so tasty, just the caramel was a little too overwhelming on the bottom, same as the bacon, a little too sweet. Bigger plates: Pork belly flatbread was so good that hubby finished the entire thing by himself. Veggie burger with truffle fries were just OK, the fries were not crunchy enough, too much blue cheese, the veggie patty was bland and a little mushy, secret sauce was not bad. I have had better veggie burgers though. Dessert was gluten free brownie organic ice cream sandwich, I don’t usually eat ice cream sandwich, so it was a rare treat that I enjoyed every single bite of it! Hubby had double espresso, he liked it. Drinks: Since they don’t carry big brand name liquor, the cocktail prices are a bit lower, only $ 12.5 each, but they do carry Macallan! At dinner, we shared Badoit sparking water, tried sour beer and Stout, both were strong and tasty, we loved them! After dinner we moved to rooftop lounge, had a few cocktails. I tried green tea cocktail, it was a very unique drink, very refreshing and yummy. «The cocktail» was like old fashioned, I don’t usually like whiskey cocktails, but they were actually very tasty, I was very surprised, awesome craft cocktails! At the end, hubby had Macallan 12 on rocks and I had vodka martini with a twist. Both were great pour, fantastic drinks to end a lovely early dinner and relaxing lounging. The service here was over the top, all the servers were extremely friendly and attentive. The upstairs lounge is so nice, the vibe is so laid back and chill, exactly my type of lounge! We would love to frequent this place, for food or drinks, it’s definitely one of the best! Ps. Parking is so annoying even on Sundays in this area, street parkings or private lots nearby, always takes time to find a good spot.

I haven’t spent that much time in Long Beach, but last night I had a business dinner with a couple of friends and one recommended Saint & Second. It was fantastic! From the space which is open and beautiful to the service from Erin who took the time to explain the menu and vibe of the place. Small bites, large plates you can share and an impressive wine and drinks list. I had an Old Fashioned and loved the non sweetness of it. Also had the burrata flatbread with some meats and bruselsprouts on it. Cooked perfectly. We all shared the salmon, sliced steak and some sides. The Mac and schrooms were out of this world. Finished with a sweet bite of some mint cookie ice cream deal that I’ll dream about and a Malbec. The area on 2nd is very happening and you can wander from spot to spot, but you might want to pull up a chair here and stay awhile. I’ll be back.

Love Love Love Saint & Second! Everything I have tried so far has been delicious. I recommend the pork belly kimchi appetizer to start. The mac n cheese is to die for as well. I highly recommend the designer smokes whiskey cocktail if you are a whiskey drinker. The smoky cloves make this drink outstanding!

This place has the most amazing Cobb salad! It came with fried chicken bites, thick chunks of bacons, cubed cheese, olives, avocados and boiled eggs over a bed of greens. It’s quite substantial and I couldn’t finish it but because it was salad, it was still light. The highlight of this salad was the fried chicken bites. It was really crunchy outside and very juicy and moist inside. It really added a nice different texture to the salad. My friend had fish and chips with a side of French fries. This was amazing, too! Perfectly fried and cod was still very juicy and very flavorful! I will definitely be back to order my own fish and chips! Ambience was really great here. Next time, it would be nice to enjoy some drink upstairs(decorated with nice outdoor furniture like couch and comfy seats) before dinner. It looks over the Second Street. Staff were very courteous and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Came here thurs night for a drink after the long Beach food event. And decided to get something light to eat while we drink. Drinks: I got the saint Rita cocktail(tequila) and I liked it alot… very good and really enjoyed it. My friend got the salvare(gin) and it was sweet and good… you can’t taste the gin which to us is always good haha. Drinks were on point. Food: we got the lamp belly Korean style(huge disappointment) we all each took only one piece. You eat it like a taco which was what we were told. It comes with 5 pieces of lamb, a side of Kim chi and daicon. You use the daicon to wrap the lamb with the Kim Chi. It was spicy and the Sauce was bland and not tasty. I didn’t even finish my taco. This was 13 bucks. Not worth it. We also got the charcuterie board. We got the 4 choices for 20 bucks. We got duck Pâté, brie, salami and prosciutto. And it also comes with a house jam and mustard. This was goood. And was a very big board. I’d come back for this and the drinks. Nice Ambience and décor. Love the exposed brick walls. Upstairs is cute and cozy… nice rooftop bar, wine cellar upstairs is so pretty, but view of Belmont shore is just ok.

First time here and I will be coming back for sure! My wife and I came her for date night. First and foremost. FANTASTICAMBIANCE! We order two side dishes the truffle fries which were delicious. The Brussels sprouts… Best Brussels sprouts I have ever had served in a skillet with Caramelized onions and delicious bacon. We ordered the burrata flatbread and it was very good. The Bison Braised Short Ribs were absolutely delicious. Make sure try the black and blue hand pie. TRUSTME.

24⁄100 Unilocal Challenge 2016 I believe Saint & Second is my new go-to for the most outstanding absolutely scrumptious of cocktails. This lovely establishment is located on Saint and Second… heeeyyyy! Did I just get that? Anyhow, right on the corner in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of my beautiful Long Beach. The interior of the restaurant is as if a bunch of lumberjacks, stage designers and housing architects had a meeting of the minds and were able to agree. Hah! Very tasteful, rustically classy, but not so classy that you’re intimidated. Every inch is so carefully thought out. There is a small private dining room upstairs with a beautiful chandelier made of crystal decanters. The first time I visited with my bf, I met Ray Gonzales, the GM. He seated us upstairs in the lounge/bar area(semi-rooftop) on some high table tops(perfect). He also pointed out the lounge seating right next to us, but since we were planning on chowing, we decided to stay at our table. He was such a pleasant and welcoming man! Walked us out when we were done too! THEDRINKS! We’re normally beer drinkers, but we also enjoy scotch on occasion. The first page of the drink menu had some featured drinks which looked cramazing(crazy amazing)! BF ordered a Moscow Mule and I ordered a Penicillin. Both were lovingly prepared, strong, but with amazing flavor as well. Thank you to our server who was also mixing cocktails, Chase! THEFOOD! I had the spiced shrimp salad, it is served with a champagne vinaigrette which is tangy and delicious! BF ordered the fish and chips… again something he wouldn’t normally order, I suppose we were feeling adventurous this day? We both enjoyed our dishes. Ok, I want to talk about 1 out of a couple of other dishes that I got on another visit with a friend(who I think goes there possibly every day?). It probably deserves a review of its own. Squeaky Cheese. Ok, whose big idea was it to create this dish? Who decided that large cheese curds breaded and fried and served with a spicy aioli sauce would be good? Whoever you are! I MUSTHUGYOU, GIVEYOUANAWARD, POSSIBLYSIGNOVERMYFIRSTBORN! I am still to this day, salivating over squeaky cheese. It’s crunchy, it’s squeaky and it’s simply divine! I highly recommend Saint & Second. See you there! Be careful of the lunch and dinner crowds, this place is popular. I can’t wait to try their brunch! Updated metered street parking that accept credit cards on 2nd. Some street parking if you can snap one up. Bön appetite!

Came here for DineLBC, and was pleasantly surprised by this place! Parking is a challenge. Street parking was all that was available from what we could gather, which was tricky since that area gets really crowded. Had to drive around quite a bit to find a spot. The interior/décor is really clean and modern. Service was excellent. Friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. Tried several of the dishes. I know they are just sides, but I was particularly impressed with their brussel sprouts and mac and«shrooms.» Will definitely have to come back to try their other dishes. Overall, highly recommend this place!

Reservation for 22 adults &2 kids, please. This #DirtyThree birthday party started at 7:30pm. But then Filipino time kicked in so we didn’t really start till 8:30ish, lmao! You know the drill. Everyone started to place their orders randomly from drinks and appetizers to the main entrees. It was very hard to keep track of who ordered what, actually. And we only had one server. Half props to you, Charisse. Boy oh boy, our bill started to add up quick. I definitely lost count after the fifth drink or so. Damn my group can drink, lol. We came to party at the right place. Keep in mind, no one can have two alcoholic beverages at a time. #Doublefisting not allowed. Also, the drinks have to be taken off the table right at closing time, even if it’s not finished. Rules are rules. They do inform you when the time is closing in, so be prepared to down those drinks – or dgaf so just leave it alone, ha! If you don’t like a mixed drink for whatever reason, let your server know. They’ll be more than happy to make you a new one.(FYI, they are in the process of extending their hours. S&S being new to the block, they have to play by the city’s rules) Moving on. I won’t sugar coat it at all, my group was picky! Either drinks tasted funny or food was not up to par. Sigh. Do servers ever come up to you and ask how everything is/was? Then you feel obligated to say, everything tasted great?! When really, some(if not all) were alright or unpleasant. I personally felt some items could’ve been executed better. My Unilocal bae KA have recently dined in for lunch and mentioned that the head chef is all open-ears to suggestions. So here goes. Roasted Brussels Sprouts – It was presented well. Although, I’ve had better. Flavor was okay, a bit too salty for my liking. The maple balsamic reduction did not pair well with bacon. I’d suggest adding another sweet factor, maybe dried cranberries or possibly golden raisins. Also, consider adding texture, candied pecans sound good! Duck Meatballs – It was tender, flavorful. I almost felt like it was over-seasoned. In every bite, I kept trying to taste for the duck but I just wasn’t sure. Anybody could’ve mistaken it for chicken. I say go light on seasoning and sauce. It’s a bit overwhelming. Marrow Bones – Umm, we were really excited for this one. It takes at least 15 minutes to cook but we didn’t mind. We did plan being there till closing. Anyways, this was a head scratcher after the first bite. To me, it’s all for the experience. Taste-wise, I didn’t appreciate it as much. The olive tapenade took over the marrow and that’s all we tasted. Basically, the marrow acted as a butter to spread on the country bread. So you get a «compound butter» onto the bread. Simple concept, worth the first time, I wouldn’t order it again. Burrata(add prosciutto) – Very impressive. For a second, I thought I was in pie heaven! Toppings and cheese had a great balance in taste and portions. Either that or we’ve had a good share of beers, lol. #twothumbsup Durham Ranch Bison Short Rib – Everything it came with was right up my alley. I like short ribs, I like grits, I like spinach and crispy shallots. I felt the overall entrée was a 4⁄5 though. Something about it didn’t quite make it a home run. Maybe it needed a kick of spice, I should’ve asked for Tabasco or paprika?!! I understand we were a big group, the service we received wasn’t the greatest. Like I said, we were a tough crowd. Heads up, gratuity wasn’t automatically added to our bills, which is normally the case(8 guests & up) in other fancy restaurants. So we brought in a birthday cake and the hostess knew right away to hide it until the end of dinner. The birthday boy had no clue! Here’s where we were turned off by our server. She either forgot or purposely didn’t mention that there’s a «Cake Cutting» charge. After looking over our receipt, there it was. We were charged $ 2/slice(total of 8 slices). Do the math and we got charged $ 16 out of thin air. As a courtesy, definitely let your guests know of any additional charges. #NotCool The hubs & I plan on going back, in spite of all this. We were really eyeing the charcuterie list. Hopefully it’ll impress us & earn them another star. As for now, Nick’s on 2nd still reigns supreme for us. Side note: We had 2 long tables which meant 2 split checks. My table(13 peeps) had a bill of $ 382.79, not including tip yet. Go figure how much everything was if it were combined, lol! They allow multiple charges on cards, just be organized and make it easier for the server. List the last 4-digits of the card and the amount to be charged on what card. #TheStruggleWasTooReal

WOW! Saint & Second rightfully deserves each and every one of these 5 stars. S&S opened in August of last year and since then they have perfected their menu, ambience, and service. Our waitress was so nice, very friendly and patient as my sister showed up 30 minutes late(as usual). This two story American gastro-style chophouse hit the ball outta the park. For starters we had a prosciutto, hard salami, Brie, and goat cheese platter. Very fresh! The«faux» filet — a three medallion filet platter with fingerling potatoes and green beans w/an added side of roasted brussel sprouts was the best meal I’ve had in all of 2016. My mom had the lamb ribs, which looked delish. I was told they were just as good as they looked. Now on to the good stuff — dessert! The«donuts and coffee» platter was impeccable. An apple fritter bread pudding and chocolate brownie bread pudding with coffee ice cream was smooth a perfect night cap. After dinner we headed upstairs to the lounge for a hot espresso and coffee. Great views and very comfortable!

I’ve only been here once and I am dying to come back! My friends and I stumbled upon this gem one day when we were hanging out on 2nd street and decided to give it a try. We had a group of 6 so we decided to order a bunch of appetizers to share. Mac n Shrooms 4⁄5 — Interestingly different. Very flavorful. Charcuterie platter 5⁄5 — I’m a sucker for cheese & charcuterie so we really couldn’t go wrong with this, but their cheese are top quality and that liver pâté was to die for. All of us couldn’t get enough of it and kept asking the server for more bread to spread it on. Roasted brussel sprouts 3⁄5 — A little bit on the soft side and not as crunchy/crispy as I normally like my brussel sprouts Bone marrow 4⁄5 — good & fatty! Just how I like my bone marrow. It could use a tad bit more seasoning but still good nontheless Lamb belly(Korean style) 5⁄5 — I really did not know what to expect with this one because I am not a lamb fan, however this dish blew me away! It did not have the gaminess of the lamb, which I normally don’t like, and the flavoring was very unique. One of my favorite dishes of the night Roasted squash 2⁄5 — Very plain, boring, and tasteless to me. One of my friends actually enjoyed this dish though. Duck meatball 5⁄5 — Another favorite of the night! Flavorful, juicy, and fulfilling. Overall we had a wonderful experience here and would love to come back and try their entrees. I particularly also love the décor of this place, especially the bar area!

Rock solid disappointment. Saint & Second has enjoyed a wild ride in local opinion and on Unilocal for some time now and even amid rumors of inconsistency I was very excited to get this bookmark cleared. The architecture, interior and location are all first rate — of that there is no question. The bar and open kitchen are simply jaw slackening. The gorgeous upstairs deck overlooks all of the 2nd Street action and the wine racks built into the wall exude class. The service is solid as well, both friendly and quick. In fact — as a drinking destination alone Saint & Second is probably Belmont Shore’s best bet if your aim is to impress. The Oysters(notably the«East Coast» variety) are absolutely incredible. Huge meaty mouthfuls of fresh, briny goodness that taste like they are still swimming. Combined with their Cucumber Mignonette you have the best way to start any meal. Saint & Second rivals Shuck’s Oyster game and that is world class. …and that is about the time the train fell off of the track… By the recommendation of the house I went with the Steakhouse Tri-Tip Sandwich over the Burger along with their Truffle Blue Cheese Fries offered with an up charge. At over $ 20.00, this is a considerable expense for a sandwich but with all of the accolades in Saint & Second’s pocket I figured that this was warranted. I figured«I paid as much at Son of Gun for the best Chicken Sandwich on earth so this makes sense, right?». «Yo Duke — you’re dead wrong». A solid 25 minutes later the food arrives dead on arrival. The smoked Tri-Tip was as cold as a pimp’s heart; wilted arugula and soggy fried onions draped the cooled meat in what can be described as local and organic depression on a bun. Worse yet, the Fries were an also frigid congealing mess of Truffle Oil, Aioli and Bleu Cheese crumbles. Nasty business, my dear reader. The waitress was quick to react and suggested they put in another order but time constraints didn’t make this an option and my company had all but finished their equally discouraging meals(the eggs in the Benedict were also overcooked). That said, she struck the plate charge from the ticket without argument and we were on our way, albeit hungry. The manager came to the table to apologize in earnest and went as far as to offer a $ 20.00 gift card for a future visit. This I humbly declined as I do not get to Belmont Shores very often and would opt for the more consistent Nick’s across the street anyway. All the same — it was a kind and genuine gesture. Sadly, Saint & Second did not live up to the monstrous level of hype for this Unilocaler and garners a dubious pair of stars. On to the next bite.

This is a decent restaurant with a nice ambiance and a friendly staff. Stopped in with friends to grab a drink and of course stuff my face. The food itself I have mixed opinions about where some hit high notes and others were just ok. There was no bad dish here at all just to add. Some dishes wowed while others hit between the hit or miss mark. Examples of the«ok» are the Faux filet, lamb ribs, duck meatballs, and the mac and shrooms. The faux filet which is angus beef was very tender but lite in flavor. The lamb ribs were quite the opposite with lots of flavor but little meat. The duck meatballs were praised like no other from those who’ve tried them but were just ok in my opinion. They were good but I hoped for a more savory taste. With the mac and shrooms, the cheddar was present but lite in taste as well. However, when I say the cheddar was present I mean there was no shortage of it. Every dip into the mac contained oozing cheddar being stretched from the dish to the spoon. This was awesome but I wish I could get more of the cheddar flavor as well is the great visual. Now for the highlights which is the lamb belly, the lobster & dungeness crab cake, the western burger, the roasted brussels sprouts, and the bison short rib. I need to get on the lamb belly movement because this stuff is delicious. Its one of those dishes when there’s only a single piece left and you’re praying that no one else grabs it before you do. It’s also in a very flavorful Korean sauce. I love crab cakes so to have my other favorite lobster combined into the mix was great. This had an awesome flavor. I made sure to grab the last bite on this one. I’m not that big on burgers with bbq sauce but this was good and the bacon on the burger took it to another peak. Where would this world be without bacon? haha I saved the last two dishes for their own paragraph because these were amazing. I’ve become very fond of brussels sprouts over that past couple of years and these only continued to make my love for them stronger. The mix of the cheddar, bacon, onions and maple was so flavorful that I wanted to lick the small skillet they were prepared in. Last is the epic bison short rib. I don’t even think I can do this dish justice in a review. The meat literally fell from the bones, was super tender and flavorful all throughout. Even the bones were delicious! Too bad I couldn’t eat them. With that being said, I was too stuffed for dessert. All in all, I like this restaurant and will return again in the future. Just a quick note, get there at a decent time before 11pm. We ordered drinks and due to some liquor licensing issue, all drinks had to be finished and off the table before that time. We arrived about 45mins before 11pm and received our drinks about 25mins before that time. It was a sit and enjoy at first… then before we knew it, it was an «oh crap!» we have only 2mins left so it became a chug fest. I’m not complaining because I’ve chugged many of beers but until that’s resolved, get their at an earlier time if you’re looking to lounge with a drink or take down more than one at a slow pace.
