This is a great shop to visit. They are always very helpful and have great recommendations and selections. We have been recommended delicious port, cava, whiskey and gin and wines. They have tastings which are fun.

It’s the best place to buy beer in Litchfield even if that’s not saying much. I’ve never had a problem finding something interesting when I visit from RI. There’s always some good«local» CT breweries feature here: Half Full, Relic, Broad Brook & Black Hog which I’m always looking for. I also found some Portland Cider Co. stuff last time that was pretty solid too. I’m not a wine drinker but it seems like they always have a tasting going on when I visit. I’ve never gotten a bad vibe from the staff there even though I don’t always look like a high class individual

Owner was very helpful, even though I indicated I was just in killing some time before later plans. Nice selection and very clean. Made a purchase due to customer service, even though I really didn’t have a need. Granted the shop was empty at the time. When a regular customer comes in, you have to accept that they will be given priority. That’s just the way of the world/good business.

I adore this shop, the owners and employees — they always make me feel welcome and I come in dressed like a slob, often covered in garden dirt. I am also new to the area and I drive a 2007 dirty Honda. Saying the people in this shop treat customers differently based on demographic, dress, race, creed or whatever nonsense said below, is insane. The shop is neat, well organized and filled with an amazing array of options. The staff is ALWAYS helpful, very knowledgeable and never try to oversell me. If I give them a budget, they never try to exceed it. I typically buy the same bottle of $ 13 wine every time and I am treated wonderfully. They are less expensive compared to the package store around the corner from me, so I’ll happily drive to Litchfield to save a few bucks and promote what I consider to be the finest wine shop in Litchfield county.

Decent selection, in a nice small store. Friendly, helpful staff. They know wine best. I usually am just looking for beer, but his selections of spirits are great too.

I’ve been a weekly customer since the Wine Market opened two years ago and I really like it. The bad experiences that earlier reviews describe leave me sad(and confused?!) I think the market has a great selection and good prices — sometimes I need something high end for a gift or special dinner, other nights I like an inexpensive magnum for sangria– they are always stocked with whatever I need. The owners have tastings every weekend which no other vendor in the area bothers with and I’ve probably purchased at least twenty new wines/champagnes as a result. They use a scanning membership card so that when you want to go back to a great bottle that you may have forgotten the name of, the info is stored digitally. They also arrange fantastic wine dinners, fundraisers and co sponsor events all over the area while showcasing local artists on their walls. There is always something new to sample and great deals on closeouts. I’ve always found both the owner and his wife to be very generous, welcoming and warm people — even when the store is very busy. While I empathize with those that have been unhappy, I hope it won’t prevent newcomers from visiting a great neighborhood wine market.

I have been in this store many times to browse the wine selection and purchased several bottles of wine there. Each time I visited the store, if I was the only customer the owner would help, but if other people from town that he was familiar with were shopping he wouldn’t even acknowledge my presence. One time after boating at Bantam my grown son and husband and I entered the store to look at the beer selection. We were dressed as if we had been boating all day. The owner never acknowledged us. After browsing the beer and wine selection I decided to leave and go to a much cheaper store closer to our home. My husband and I went to the car and my son was still browsing the shelves when the owner finally asked him for assistance — it was then my son realized we were waiting in the car, so he declined assistance and came to the car. The owner proceeded to come to the front window in the store and began yelling«don’t ever come back here», when my son noticed and told me, I could not believe my eyes. As we exited the parking lot the owner came out of the store yelling with a phone in his hand«don’t ever come back here». I was going to stop and question his actions but I became frightened by his behavior — whether or not he was mentally stable. In any event, this is no way to treat a customer even if they did not buy something on a visit. I will never return to this store and will continue to warn my friends and family of his behavior.

Unfortunately I have to report that the selection here isn’t the best, nor is the customer service. I went in on two different occasions to make sure I didn’t hit it on an off day, because I do realize that many businesses have one of those every now and then and my findings are pretty much conclusive. On my first trip I came in after working all day doing construction on the other side of town. The owner(Mike I think his name is) saw me in jeans and a t-shirt and didn’t even acknowledge my presence. He actually went into the back room while I was in the store, leaving me with some girl who was busy stocking shelves. They didn’t carry the wine my mother in law usually drinks, so I left. On my way out I noticed that he was quick to help a snappily dressed older woman from town. The second time I came back I was coming home from a funeral and dressed totally differently in pants and a sport coat. This time Mike was beyond friendly and did everything he could to try and persuade me into purchasing something. Now I made it a point to go in dressed up to see if the reaction would be any different and I certainly got a taste of what this guy is all about. If you’re not about to drop hundreds of dollars in his overpriced store(or even if you are and you don’t look it), he’s not interested in helping you at all. The only thing this guy has going for him is his knowledge of wine… he was saying how he was some sort of distributor or worked for a distributor in his past. I don’t do business with people who are blatantly disrespectful to their customers and I certainly won’t be headed back here any time soon. I get my beer and wine cheaper from down the street, but I will leave the Litchfield Hills Wine Market with one piece of advice: You get more bees with honey.

This is such a great wine/liquor/beer store. They have a great selection of interesting wines representing all different price points. The owners, Mike and Jackie, couldn’t be more helpful or nicer people. Definitely check out the wine tastings that they offer on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Also check out their website for more information:
