I’ve been working in the building next door for five years and just discovered Al Vetro a couple weeks ago. I’ve had lattes, their cold brew, and an iced tea from there, and everything has been great. By this point, I’ve interacted with most of the staff there, and they’re always helpful. They’ve got a great selection of pastries, of which I’ve tried the bagels and the kolaches. This is my new spot to get coffee, as it is miles better than anything I could get from a Starbucks. They’ve also got a nice member rewards program that rewards you with free add-ons and pastries, things like that. Great stuff. If you work at Methodist or are in the Methodist buildings for any reason, this is where you should be for coffee.

Al Vetro is a rare find in Houston if you’re looking for traditional Italian coffee and espresso. The copper espresso machine is not only beautiful but creates the most delicious espresso this side of Madrid. Don’t go looking for a frou-frou frappé. The(very handsome) owner will politely discourage that idea and give you a master’s lesson in the joy of real espresso. The staff is well trained and very polite. Great place in the medical center to get what you need on the go or sit for a while and enjoy a delicious traditional coffee.

A really nice quiet coffee shop. It was well worth the walk from MD Anderson! Great cappuccino!

The staff is super friendly. The coffee is good and the prices are fair. Never seen it too crazy busy or had to wait In a very long line. There are some comfy chairs to sit and read in or small tables to grab a snack with a friend.

This is the coffee shop inside scurlock tower at Houston Methodist. Usually hospital coffee gets a bad wrap fit being disgusting, but this place is the opposite of that! The inside of the shop is warn and inviting, the centerpiece being the copper espresso machine, from Italy, of course! The staff is extremely courteous and professional — they’ve never gotten one of my orders wrong! The coffee is great. Everything I’ve tried there is delicious and meticulously prepared. Brava!

Really hope this place makes it. It is definitely the best cup of coffee in the med center and worth the trek from whatever hospital you might be at. Even better is that they aren’t pretentious about serving up some tasty joe. It’s tucked away near the gift shops and murphys deli on the 2nd floor of scurlock tower. Not open on the weekends.

Al Vetro is a great little coffee shop and they appreciate coffee for sure. You can tell by their attitudes that they love their job. The owners are extremely nice. I’ll admit coffee wasn’t the best when they first opened, but it is soooo much better now. Stop by and grab a cup of Joe :)

For over a year, my coworkers and I frequented the previous coffee shop that occupied this location. Honestly, we were sad to see the place close. We decided to give Al Vetro a try when it opened. I will admit that the drinks weren’t the best at first, but Al Vetro has found its groove and offers both traditional and modern coffee to meet customers’ needs. Specifically, I love the frappes, especially the mocha flavored one! Al Vetro uses an ice cream base, which gives it a different consistency than ones with milk. There’s only a handful of coffee shops in Houston that serve blended drinks I like, and I would rank Al Vetro at the top. Plus, the owners and staff are really friendly and accommodating. They’ll make any drink to order, add whatever syrup or flavor you want, customize sweetness levels, and remake drinks if you’re not satisfied. The customer service is above exceptional. Please support Al Vetro and give this place a try! It’s a hidden gem in the medical center, in an area populated with Starbucks and Starbucks-serving coffee shops.

Awesome place for great coffee. Staff is really friendly and makes sure they get your order right. Owner knows his coffee and brewing styles and took his time to educate customers who had questions. Had a salted caramel mocha during the spring time! Heard from by Eater Houston middle of Texas Medical Center and walking distance from Rice.

There aren’t many non-chain coffee shops out here in the Med Center area, so when I found out about this place and saw its high ratings on Houstonia Mag as well as Houston Eater, I was very eager to try it out. I’m not totally familiar with the actual Medical Center, so it took me a while to find this place. To save you from the same troubles, it’s located within Methodist’s Scurlock Tower on the 2nd floor. It’s a fairly small shop that may not look incredibly flashy from the outside, but the coffee here is done right. The coffee is served Italian style in a glass, which is definitely something different. Pretty neat actually! The coffee is very fresh and tastes amazing. What makes this place even more appealing is the friendly and welcoming staff. The owner makes the effort to introduce himself to each of his customers and get to know them on a more personal level. When talking to the owner, I could tell he was incredibly passionate about coffee. His goals of maximizing the flavor from the beans and perfecting each drink are admirable, and I can’t help but want to come back and support the business. I’m very happy to have found a legitimate place to get coffee near Rice — I know start coming here regularly. Definitely come by here and give it try because you’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t!

This is one of those magical places where the owners take coffee seriously, but aren’t pretentious about it. What does that mean? Means you’ll get an outstanding cup of coffee served with a smile and if you’re so inclined some pleasant conversation. I don’t live in Houston but visit often. I’ll be back!

Amazing espresso. The owner seems really passionate about coffee. Definitely the best option in the medical center if not all of Houston.

Best coffee I have EVER had. I’d go to Methodist just for the coffee. The way they steam the milk makes the coffee so unique. I lived off of Starbucks coffee, but now that I’ve had Al Vetro’s coffee, I feel jipped every time I go to Starbucks.

Best cup of coffee south of Montrose! Seriously, these guys have a fantastic set up and are brewing single origin coffee and fantastic espresso in a part of the city where no one else is(has previously been just a sea of Starbucks around here). I live and work in this area and am sooo happy I can get a good latte without having to drive halfway across town! Come check these guys out if you’re around the TMC/Rice area.
