Nice old Japanese lady working at the counter took my order of a mini mochiko chicken plate(comes w/one scoop white rice and fresh green salad w/house dressing and corn), $ 5.50 + tax. Quick service when you come in the afternoon on a Sunday. Happy hours are crazy busy here and hard to find an open table. Wish they used paper to-go containers instead of styrofoam.

Came here to try the seafood gumbo. Big disappointment. Not only is what they serve not authentic gumbo(ie made with a rue, cajun seasoning, the holy trinity, okra, etc.) there is practically no seafood in it. The taste wasn’t bad for a soup, but it should be a crime to call it gumbo. At $ 10.80 a bowl I expected better.

A friend told me that Shirokiya now has a 100oz beer tower for $ 8…and like that we were here the next weekend to see this thing for ourselves haha. Everyday from 530 – 930 the beer tower is 100oz of Coors Light for $ 8 or $ 14 for Aloha Blonde… so crazy.( ). Such a great deal and a way better deal than the $ 8 pitchers of Kirin… granted, you have to drink/like Coors Light, but there’s nothing wrong with some light beer every once in a while. Couple of notes though: You can only get the beer tower at Seafood Hawaii @Pier 38(the seats closer to the mall by the window) and drink it in the designated area. You cannot order it and take it to any other seats as this is a different company than the one selling the pitchers, they are just both within Shirokiya. This presents a problem because there are only 10 – 15 tables so seats are very, very hard to come by. Recommend not coming with more than four people. Even though you can’t bring the tower to another seating area, you can bring food from the other Shirokiya vendors. The beer can get warm since as the tower is not not insulated… so drink fast! You need at least two people to order the tower. There are two televisions, so this would be a pretty great place to watch Monday Night Football. Yeah.I didn’t try the food here, I just stuffed myself with beer… but the food looked good! I’m just excited to go back for another tower… haha

Despite the name, this eatery is NOT located at Pier 38, but rather on the second floor of Shirokiya at Ala Moana Center. It is slightly hidden in the corner of the store at the end of the cafeteria line. I’m a little torn on my review, because I ate there twice and had two very different experiences. On my first visit, I had the furikake ahi($ 11), and it was fantastic. I would say it was on par with the furikake ahi I’ve had at Nico’s. The fish was perfectly seared, leaving it raw and moist in the middle. I was not given any dressing for my salad, so I had to go back for some, and I watched them make the dressing before handing it to me. Everything tasted great, and I was a happy camper. My husband was also very happy with his garlic shrimp($ 11). A couple days later, we were back at Ala Moana and I was still thinking about that furikake ahi, so we decided to go back to Seafood Hawaii @Pier 38. What a disappointing experience! The cashier and cooks all seemed lost and confused. I ended up waiting a very long time for my plate, and when I finally sat down to eat it, it was overcooked and dry. On top of that, the fish was very fishy. I had to put tarter sauce on it in order to eat it. The chef had spent a lot of time making fancy carrots for my salad, but the dressing tasted like straight balsamic vinegar, not the mix I had on my previous visit. My first experience was 4 stars and my second experience was 2 stars, so I will give them 3 stars for now. Granted, they just recently opened, so I will give them some time to work out the kinks. I’m willing to give them another try.
