The last time we ate here Craft Supply was still next door. Ordered the usual… udon with chicken and grilled mochi x2. Oishii, but don’t remember broth being so «gingery».

Oh Jimbos, how I love you! I’ve been coming to Jimbo for udon for as long as I can remember. My parent’s office used to be down the street and we used to come all the time when I was a little girl. Maybe it’s the nostalgia or maybe I just can’t get enough of their udon, but I find myself wanting to visit Jimbo Restaurant just about every weekend. We typically like to go for lunch as soon as they open or early dinner. Any other time and it can get pretty crowded! If there are people waiting outside, be sure to write your name on the list. Jimbo’s is a no frills restaurant with friendly service and delicious food. The prices are reasonable and their udon is delicious. I like the zaru udon and hubby typically orders some form of curry udon… they have different combos for lunch and dinner. Recently, I noticed you can take out their udon noodles to cook at home! It sounds like they’ve had this for awhile now but I just noticed it on our last visit. I may have to do that sometime because I am always craving Jimbo udon! It’s the perfect combo of soft and chewy! Parking is in the front lot or in the garage behind the restaurant off Young St. We haven’t had trouble finding parking at the times we’ve been but I imagine it can get difficult during normal busy times.

Yum. This place is top notch and feels like one of the most authentic places in the area. The seats, décor, and vibe is a lot similar to what you might see in Japan. I got to try several of the dishes here and enjoyed every single one. The quality of the food tastes clean! I enjoyed the udon broth and Kurobuta dish the most. Anything you order seems tasty and of same quality.

I used to love coming here in high school! I used to always get the curry udon and oyakodon set, but this time I also tried the pork tonkotsu don and that was meaaaaan!!! Vegetable tempura is always good! They were out of the special rice that normally comes with the sets, but the server was kind and offered potato salad as a substitute. I LOVE Japanese potato salad so that made the meal even more delicious! Everyone who works here is friendly and their udon is made fresh every day. There’s nowhere else I would go for udon!

It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve been to Jimbo. I used to go all the time. I took my kids with me for dinner and my son signed us in on their sheet hanging on the wall outside while I parked the car. That’s the SOP at Jimbo. I saw a lady park after me while I was taking the baby out of the car. She went in without signing the sheet and was seated. I went in and the server told me we needed to wait even though there were multiple tables open. He moved the lady that cut to a back table that had 6 seats. We had 5 with us. He moved her from a table of 4. I asked why he couldn’t move her to the table of 4 so we could be seated? The server told me emphatically that he moved her once and won’t do it again. 5 minutes passes and for some reason unknown to me he asks her to move to the 4 top. He tells me that I should thank her for moving. I then ask him to clarify why I should be thankful when we signed in like we were supposed and while we were getting the baby out of the car the lady cut in front of us, didn’t sign in and got seated immediately. The server half heartedly apologized. I think he was embarrassed. This followed with a wait of 20+ minutes to get our food and lackluster service. Jimbo has good food but the service has gotten pretty sad. Maybe this was a one off bad experience? Not sure if we will go back.

Every time I passed this place I was told they have the best noodles and it came highly recommended for Japanese food. I finally stopped in for dinner and left feeling less than satiated. The service was interesting. Our waiter greeted us with, «Howzit guys» and then kinda threw the menus on the table and left in a hurry. He and his colleagues were fairly attentive by filling up water glasses, removing dirty dishes, and asking if everything was okay but there was hardly a smile shown our way the entire time, so it was efficient but not friendly. I ordered the chicken curry which came with a small udon and miso soup. The udon was good but I’ve had better. The miso soup and the curry were both very salty. If I wanted a Japanese curry fix, I’d definitely go to Curry House instead. I suppose the noodles were good but there was nothing unique about any of the food and I wonder if a Japanese person would have enjoyed it — seems like the flavors would have been too intense. On top of that, it took about 12 – 15 minutes to get our food which in a fine dining restaurant is fast but in a place with 10 tables dishing out essentially pre made orders I felt it was too slow for my liking. All in all, I wouldn’t come back here — there are better Japanese restaurants on islands without having to settle for mediocre.

Jimbos!!! I dont have much to compare it to as far as Udon places go, but it is definitely tasty with amazon home made noodles. They are so soft with the right amount of chew!!! I usually get the Curry Udon, which is delicious. The curry is one of the best I have ever had. Hands down. It can get crowded for lunch right when it opens, and usually stays pretty busy. We just went on Saturday and caught them at the perfect time(around 12) as it was just before another crowd. Parking is in front, or in the shade in the back(Young St.). Highly recommended if you want your udon fix.

Service was great, portions were good, small parking lot in front. Nice and cool inside. Our waitress was sweet enough to grab a cup if ice for me to cool rhe kids soup without me asking for it… love that! My only complaint(s) the kake udon literally only had one fish cake. Maybe it’s how it always is, but I was expecting a bunch in there. :(oh and noodles were good, fresh, but a little too smoky flavored and not at chewy as I like.

Got a hankering for some delicious, homemade udon noodles in hot, comforting broth? Jimbo to the rescue! Get ready to get your udon on here, and enjoy some of the other tasty menu items like the grilled salmon, curry, tempura and katsu. I love the cold udon salad, which is very refreshing after a hot day at the beach. My favorite? Tendon and hot udon combo. The oyako don is another favorite, lots of egg and chicken over hot rice… mmmm broke da mouth!

It’s been ten years since the last time I ate here! Then one day I was craving soup to get over a cold and Jimbo looked like the perfect opportunity to try this place again and get my soup fix! I got the Katsu don meal which includes a pork katsu don, a choice of a small hot or cold udon, and tsukemono. This meal is perfect with the pork katsu don being good, tasting sweet and mixed with egg on top of rice. The waitress asked what type of noodles for the udon and I chose thin noodles. Also got it with hot broth and it was very good! They give a good amount of food for the portion size! I worked on eating mostly the udon so I would have leftovers. For me being a girl this could cover two meals! It’s definitely a nice atmosphere in the restaurant, service and food was good! Give this place a try if you haven’t been here!

When my friend was visiting home from Oregon, she wanted to go to Jimbo’s Udon for dinner. She said it’s one of her Hawaii staples whenever she is in town. I actually never been to Jimbo’s prior to this visit, and even though we were going in October, it was still really hot … just like summer months. The last thing I wanted was hot noodles, but since we were going to an udon place, I figured I might as well try it. There’s lots to choose from on the Jimbo’s menu. Because we went on a Sunday for an earlier dinner, we actually didn’t have to wait to get in(it was around 6 p.m.). But, if you have a larger group, I would recommend going early because the restaurant is on the smaller side. Here’s what my friends and I got. We enjoyed good service at Jimbo’s and our food tasted great as well. Definitely will be back to try some of the other menu items! «Zouini»: I opted for this hot udon dish, which included fried or grilled mochi, chicken and vegetables. I love mochi and was curious to try it in my udon. I got the grilled mochi and enjoyed the assortment of chicken and veggies in my udon dish. The noodles were soft, chewy and tender. They were slightly rubbery, but not so much that I felt like I was going to choke while eating them. I liked the texture and consistency of the mochi — it was soft but definitely chewy, but how unique to be able to get udon with that in it! I would recommend this dish if you’re in the mood for something hot but want to experience something different. «Cold Kakiage»: This cold udon dish features cold noodles, vegetables and chopped shrimp. My friend says this is her go-to dish because she actually prefers the cold udon noodles over the hot udon. Her dish came with a good amount of chopped shrimp and veggies. She also got a side of tempura to share. I enjoyed the batter and consistency of the tempura — it was perfectly crispy without being overdone and overly crunchy. «Natto Bukkake»: My other friend loves natto, so she opted for this hot udon dish which features udon and a vegetable assortment. There was a good amount of natto that came with her dish, so she was completely satisfied. «Katsu Don Combo»: If I were really hungry, I would definitely want to try this combo. It features pork katsu and egg on rice, as well as hot or cold udon. I would probably go for the hot udon, unless it was a summer day and I feel like eating cold noodles. I love katsu and I’m interested to see what their pork katsu tastes like.

Easily some of the best udon or soba in Hawaii. This place is phenomenal. Their noodles are fresh and their broth is delicious. Everything checks out, so if you love Japanese udon and soba and if you haven’t already, you must check them out as well. Pick your flavor and have some steamy fun. You’ll either love it or it’ll just be okay. Hard to see how it could ever be bad when you can smell and taste that freshness. But I do know some haters. As for me, 4 stars all the way. 5 for my favorite Fried Mochi udon. Oh my god I could swear word all over the place it’s so drool worthy in my world. Derrrr… See, I’m drooling now. I guess I need to book an appointment with Jimbo ASAP. It’s been too long. Which is just stupid, even if they are priced higher than my one and only dear true blue Yamagen. Doh, cat’s outta the bag now. I am indeed unfaithful to Yamagen with Jimbo here. More than once. Floozy, I know. Call it what you want, but blame it on the udon and soba. Gah!

The ginger pork was something I’ve never tried — but I’m so glad the spontaneous side of me came out to try this dish. The pork was thinly sliced and blended well with the rice. The udon was okay. Maybe because I’m not the biggest udon fan — but for the udon and ginger pork don to be decently priced for the lunch special made it worthwhile. Definitely will come back but not alone — the dish had a large portion and I’m typing this review out because I’m too full to leave… Thank god there’s no text limit on Unilocal

When I want to eat udon or soba, this is pretty much the only place I come to. While the cost of food can get pretty pricey here, at least you don’t have to worry about getting dish water broth or foreign objects in your food. The noodles are freshly made and have that nice chewy texture you can’t get with frozen or prepackaged noodles. My favorite item to order is the Yamaimo Natto Soba. Even if you don’t particularly like natto, you should try this dish, as it might just convert you.

Lunch specials are the way to go. I got the yaki-udon(stir fried udon noodles) with chicken and it was pretty good. Portions are HUGE and can totally be split between two people. If it wasn’t summer(and like 95 degrees outside) I probably would have gotten one of their specials that comes with hot udon.

I went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend. Overall I enjoyed it and would return again if I had a craving for something in particular. The udon was delicious and so was my salad, but if you’re looking to fulfill a curry craving I don’t recommend ordering that here. The mango sorbet was very refreshing and I loved the mocha pieces that came with it. Overall Pros: Clean, food seems fresh, taste is good, and our cups of water were constantly filled Overall Cons: Hard to find location, staff wasn’t particularly friendly

Nothing gets fresher than fresh homemade udon! A hole in a wall Japanese restaurant that bring a whole lot of flavor. We ordered: –tempura dinner special –curry udon –cold natto udon –black pork gyoza –black pork miso plate Yum yum yum. Bottom line: noodles are on point. Their new gyoza was okay but I didn’t think $ 12 for 10 pieces was worth it. What is black pork? Oh well we love this place! Just come early so that you can get a parking spot in the front and don’t have to wait for a seat since there’s no reservations.

In my opinion, udon beats ramen. ALLTHETIME. Jimbo’s is delicious. I love any of their cold udons. They have so many selections, so an indecisive person like me will struggle. Oh the struggles. Regardless, this is the kind of problem you want to have sometimes, right? If you’re feeling hungrier, my default is the combo with curry & cold udon. It’s a LOT of food and though the curry is average, it’s just such a perfect pairing with udon. They have plenty of combos, my other go to is the tempura and cold udon. I noticed they had a lot more salads and«healthier» udon offerings the last time I went. They are also promoting the fact that they now have«jidori chicken.» It’s just a little pricey but you’re getting quality noodles so maybe it evens out(although Marukame has good noodles too for 1⁄3 the cost). One of the best parts is that you can just order their noodles to go and eat it with your own broth, or eat them cold with some nice ponzu and furikake! Doesn’t last too long, so make sure to eat um up!

Jimbo is located on King Street in the same structure as Pint + Jigger. Coming here during the day, there was plenty of parking in front. However, if you don’t find parking right in front, you can also park on the back side on Young Street. We came here over the weekend right when they opened. Lucky us because there was plenty parking and we were seated immediately. I was surprised to see how quickly this place got packed! After sitting here for about thirty minutes, the restaurant was full. The Grub. [[ CURRYCOMBO $ 12.90 ]]
[[ JIDORIOYAKUCURRYUDON $ 13.90 ]] Overall the food was good, the price was decent and the staff was friendly. I could see myself coming back to try other items on the menu :3

Well yesterday I tried my hand at Soba down the street, today I thought I’d give Udon whirl and I’m happy I did. I ordered the Curry Udon set and it was great. I thought it was a kinda creative dish though I must admit I’m not well versed in the Udon arts and only recently have become or faked becoming mature enough to not say U-dong when ordering… ya ya I know but at least I don’t do it anymore. So the name, I’m guessing Jimbo is Japanese too? I’ve spent just enough time in the South to be pretty wary of the name Jimbo… so when my friend told me it’s a great Japanese joint I was like dang son… it better be with a name like that. I thought the curry broth was a great texture not too watery, not too ‘tick’ but just right. The noodles were pretty tasty and I enjoyed the curry and dashi(I just learned this word not so long ago and will probably overuse herein). My buddy like me isn’t well versed in Japanese Culinary treats but he ordered the special which I have a picture of but I’m not sure what it is. I should have gotten the name… basically looks like a bunch of tempuraed stuff in one gaggle with udon noodles. He said it was excellent, i was gonna try it but he was coughing so I erred on the side of health and opted out. I thought the service was good and it’s a real good value… basically plate lunch prices but like good sit down kine place.
