Soup was the best part of the meal. Two tries to get prime rib correct, 1st was over medium and 2nd was rare+. I ordered med rare. Spaghetti and meatballs the meatballs were dry and chewy as if from day before. Pasta was overdone. Sauce was okay not great. Overall for over $ 60 plate very mediocre. My how this restaurant has gone down. Would not go back. So many good restaurants with history.

Took my mom here after seeing a show at The Pantages on 6÷25÷16. Service was excellent, the food not so much. I had lingiune and clams, very stingy with clams which were only placed around the edge of the dish in shells, and the pasta was swimming in broth. The taste was ok but I only ate half due to the soupy-ness of it and the lack of clams. My mother liked her steak, but it also was swimming in its juices. The bread pudding was mushy and bland. Will not eat here again

If you ever wanted to travel back in time for a night under the stars and see old Hollywood, Musso & Frank’s Grill, is a must. The atmosphere has not changed in decades and either has the quality of the food and service. I had a martini to start which started the night off right, then i moved on to the shrimp cocktail and had a grilled swordfish as my main course. I have been going to Musso’s since college and it has not changed one bit, and star sightings are everywhere. It still feels like the authentic place to see and be seen by the locals. YUMM!!!

We had some friends coming in from out of town and wanted to take them someplace special. I’m sure my parents and my grandparents all frequented Musso & Franks and after reading up on the history we had to try it. Food: Absolutely Amazing. Typical steak house style where your going to get a steak and several sides. You are not going here to save money, but it is about 10% less than Ruth Chris. Service: who knew that a Wednesday night would be this busy, but we got there at 6PM and it was packed. The waiters were super busy so there was no chit chat or talk about the history of the place, in fact it was super noisy so don’t expect intimate conversation. But the staff were attentive. Tip: maybe find out what day or time is least busy, I felt that because of all the noise and crowd we all just wanted out of there. I would have liked to sit and enjoy it a little more.

I came in for lunch on a Friday It’s not as busy as dinner time so it’s a nice change of pace. I ordered my favorite sandwich-a French dip. It came with amazing housemade chips. Service is as good as it gets. Great way to ease into the weekend!

I have so much to say about this place but I will try to keep it short. I think I like it mostly because I have so many incredible memories there. I found this place about six years ago. It happens to be right at the bottom of my street street so it’s super convenient. It’s a great place to go with friends, for a date, or with family. It is very old old-fashioned-Hollywood. Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and that kind of crew was said to always dine there. The bartender, many makes the best vodka martini and apparently he made one for Mr. Frank himself. My fiancé sat next to Ernest Borgnine shortly before he passed. It’s very cool, because as they have managed the upkeep, they have not restored a lot of the old furniture and it still looks great and has that old Hollywood vibe. The service is incredible they even scrape the crumbs off of the table. Everything about this place is divine. The prices are a bit high, so save this place for a special occasion :-) I hope you all enjoy.

I did a lot of research and was pretty disappointed. Service — Our waiter was nice, but we were pretty rushed in and out. We didn’t order a huge meal with a lot of drinks, so I guess were a small ticket, but we had to get his attention a few times for service and finally decided to go someone where for dessert and drinks. For food, I got the Veal Scaloppini, which was ok. I love Veal and passed up the steak for it. My wife ordered the special, then grabbed the waiter and tried to change to the steak 5 min late. He said it was too late and we had to stick with our meal. We should have ordered correctly up front, so didn’t put up a fight, but was surprised 5 min was too late. We finished up our meal and moved on, which was a good move because we ended up finding a great place for drinks at the Library a little closer to our final destination(the improv show on Hollywood BLVD).

It gets cold in LA. It gets cold, but a trip to Musso & Frank’s will warm you up in two easy steps! 1. Enjoy a piping-hot glass of Irish coffee. It’s like a wool sweater in a glass mug, but less scratchy, and topped with whipped cream. 2. There might be stunning steaks on the menu, but the Welsh Rarebit will chase the chill away with pointy toasts and beer-fueled cheese sauce! I recommend ordering a serving of chips too; to tackle the gravy boat of sauce. You’ll need those fries to mop up every cheesy drop! Two steps. They’re easier more fun than wrapping a scarf! They’re easier than struggling into long-johns! They also taste better.

I love this place. Had a lobster, prime rib, wedge salad, baked potato and creamed spinach. Everything was excellent. Not one single item disappointed. Great old school restaurant in the heart of Hollywood.

What can one say about the oldest(opened in 1919) restaurant in Hollywood ? Outstanding service provided by red jacketed bow tied professional waiters who address you as «sir» and«m’aam» a far cry from the waitstaff in the«trendy”(?) restaurants who address you as «you guys». The chicken pot pie was incredible, the tom collins cocktail was made from scratch, not using some cheap bar mix ingredients. Overall, a great experience and a «must see» when one is in Hollywood.

I chose Musso & Frank’s for my boyfriend’s birthday since he said he wanted steak. Upon researching I learned that this is the oldest restaurant in Hollywood which I found to be really cool! They called me to confirm and asked if it was for a special occasion, which was a nice touch. Upon arrival, we were greeted by smiles and the service throughout the night was excellent. The servers are all dressed in formal dining attire, which we rarely get to see in LA anymore. The décor of the restaurant is old Hollywood with a lot of dark wood. We were seated in the brighter part of the restaurant which was nice. The menu is pretty extensive with both steakhouse items and traditional Italian cooking as well. I settled on the Pan-Seared Scallops and my bf the New York Strip. We ordered the Potatoes Au Gratin and the Brussel Sprouts for our sides as well as each a small cup of French Onion Soup. All the food was pretty good. Everything was prepared very traditionally, whereas, I feel like our palettes are more used to fusion cooking these days. The plating of the entrees was also very plain and old school, not like how we see at most restaurants in this day and age. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. They brought out a scoop of ice cream on a brownie with a candle for my bf so I appreciated the gesture. I can’t say I was impressed with the food, however, it was really great to experience excellent service. Parking: first valet lot right behind the restaurant — $ 3 with validation

What a great experience! Lots of history in this establishment! They are known for their«grilled» entrees, so order the steak! You will not be disappointed. They come with au jus on the plate, so you have a bit to dip your steak in. All the side are extra. We got four sides, so we were able to share. It was perfect. The ambiance of the place is really old school. Intimate red leather booths with waiters in short red waiter jackets. Love. Great service.

Old school dining. Love the old Hollywood feel, and servers donning their blazers and black slacks. Formal but without any pretentiousness. Service was quite attentive. I ordered the Baked Escargot to start, and those were excellent. Nice garlicky buttery flavor to them. They’re hot little suckers, so be careful not to burn your mouth and tongue. My friend order the Roasted Lamb, and thought it was phenomenal. It was a big piece of lamb, siced thick and looked very tender. I had the French Dip(I had no idea why except that it just caught my eye), and it wasn’t bad. Meat was slighty overcooked, making a little dry, but it was still tasty, especially when you dip it in the au jus. I opted for the shoestring French fries rather than the potato chips. Fries were OK, some weren’t crispy, and a little greasy, but the biggest faux pas was that they were overseasoned. So salty, I couldn’t eat more than half an order. I did advise the server of this so that the kitchen would be aware of this.

Beautiful vintage restaurant, golden era hollywood! Me and my husband came here for our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience, everyone was very friendly and inviting. We started with a cup of creamy tomato soup-delish! I ordered prime rib, it came with a bake potatoe(40.00) excellent! It was tender, well seasoned and like 4″ thick, i had to take about half home! My hubby got the rib eye steak(52.00) and ordered a baked potatoe loaded, it was cooked medium, great flavor an seasoning, very moist and so tender. At the end they gave us a delicious double chocolate brownie with ice cream on top, yummy!!! Overall an awsome place to dine on a special occasion, our waiter was awsome, friendly and very helpful. Ill be back next year!

Outstanding food and service. We stopped by during the TCM movie festival for dinner and had a great time. The French onion soup, which was recommended by Michael Douglas who was dining in the restaurant at the time, was perfect. Ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and it was awesome. We ordered creamed spinach and cheesy potatoes, and both were the best we have ever had of each. Very impressed with the great service. Can’t wait to go back.

Musso & Frank has it all — delectable food and great ambiance. Totally old Hollywood and you can imagine Sinatra and other classic Hollywood crew lounging in the dimly lit dining room in big, burgundy booths. The staff wears red jackets and many servers have been there for 30+ years. Going to Musso & Frank is like traveling through time! We all had steaks. I highly recommend the bone in ribeye. All sides are separate, so best to get a few and share with the table(they are pretty big). Drinks are shockingly cheap for the area. Our martinis were only $ 11 and we had a good bottle of wine for $ 49. Not somewhere to go every day, but we will be visiting this Hollywood landmark for birthdays and other special occasions!

Old school service and atmosphere. We sat at «Charlie Chaplin’s» table right by the front. Had cocktails in the bar while we waited. Maitre D greeted our table and gave us restaurant history. Service was good, food was solid. Good vegetarian options if you order off the sides menu. Server went and made bleu cheese olives for us. Lovely evening.

I finally made it to Musso for actual dinner!!! WOooO What history! OPen since 1919 MArtini MArtini MArtini! You MUST order the dirty martini MUST $ 10 for a martini in Hollywood ya right! But actually that’s right lol.(Obviously if you order kettle or something else its a bit more) *I was delighted to know we were going to sit in Marilyn Monroe’s favorite booth. Her booty sat where my booty was sitting lol –ordered the wedge salad(my favorite): Pretty good $ 10? –The porterhouse steak was great, juicy. I believe they put it on an actual flame grill so its different than other steakhouses. $ 43 (I personally prefer my steaks cooked differently but it was defiently worth trying) –The pan seared scallops were amazing: served with capers and a meuniere sauce I will continue to go back and recommend the dirty martini to everyone :)

Items Selected: Sourdough Bread Spumoni Slice Brioche Bread Pudding with Blueberries and Vanilla Ice Cream Musso & Frank Strawberry Torten Doing the bulk of the day’s eating before noon, mid-day reserved for rest before a concert at Hollywood Bowl, friends had frequently half-joked that a visit to Musso & Frank Grill was an ‘essential’ Los Angeles experience, words that a dinner-turned-«just desserts» largely proved, at least historically, to be true. Laid out much like San Francisco’s Tadich Grill, the focus at Musso & Frank more steak and pasta than the North Bay’s home of Cioppino and Sand Dabs, those entering the 1919 restaurant at 6667 Hollywood Blvd. will immediately appreciate the old-school nature of low bar seating as high-backed booths form enclaves to the left of the doors, and persistently jammed during peak hours all the way to a second room unseen from the entrance only one option for seating is offered without reservations, the far end of the bar where swinging doors offer an occasional glimpse of the kitchen. Cliché professional in service, the staff proper but almost intentionally stiff in a 50s sort of way, a red-vested middle-aged man quickly dropped a knob of sourdough plus butter soon after I was seated, and with a menu already present for perusal I quickly debated the«Original Fettuccini Alfredo» as well as Chicken a la King before deciding such things were unlikely to offer any insight beyond the typical, a few steak specials ignored much like my request for Flannel Cakes(that, unbeknownst to me, apparently cease to be served at 3pm) with the end result a request of three desserts, served in courses over the next 45 minutes. Humorously priced with regard to savories, though chock-full of tourists undoubtedly generating more than enough revenue to offset the costs of such an enormous space on the Walk of Fame, it was after a short delay listening to upsells of ‘famous cocktails’ to a couple at my right that course one arrived and although at first too hard to eat the Spumoni Cake quickly warmed to spoonability, the layers of ice cream not really different from many classics seen elsewhere, though the thick ribbon of ganache atop a graham cracker crust admittedly did add an pleasant textural contrast. Describing the difference between Diplomat Pudding and Bread Pudding simply as «one is cold, the other is hot» it was not particularly amusing when the latter arrived only modestly warmer than room temperature with texture not dissimilar to a wet sponge and Vanilla Ice Cream no creamier than Thrifty, a few bites taken before the rest was rejected and all-in-all a good choice providing both time and capacity to enjoy the cream-meets-crunch juxtaposition of Musso & Frank’s famous Strawberry Torten.

I don’t know what took me so long to eat at Musso’s, but I’m glad I finally did! This place has been on my «go to» list for so long and it did not disappoint. I had dinner here a couple of weeks ago with my wife and in-laws and we’re still talking about how much we enjoyed it! As soon as we walked in, we felt like we were transported back to the Golden Age of Hollywood. The dining room was dimly lit, the servers wearing red jackets with bow ties, the cigarette stained wallpaper, the old school cash register and the beautiful bar… you can tell this place was filled with history and the ghosts of Old Hollywood. We started with some cocktails and appetizers: stuffed celery, olives and also the Welsh Rarebit. Who has these on the menus in 2016? No one! This is some old school stuff executed at a really high level! My wife claimed that Musso’s made the best vodka martini she’d ever had. I don’t recall what my in-laws had, but I had the lamb chops and my wife had the filet. We also shared a side of broccoli and the Fettucini Alfredo, which the server was great enough to split on two separate plates. Entrees were outstanding and we paired it with 2 bottles of Mt. Veeder Cab(good wine list and not overpriced). For desert, we ordered the Torten, which was recommended by our server. We loved it all! We loved it so much that we went back for lunch the next day! We’ve decided to make Musso & Frank a mandatory stop whenever we come down to LA. Only complaint(it’s not really a complaint about the restaurant… it’s just a gripe I have with dining out in general), is that I wish the other patrons were dressed up. When you visit Musso’s, please take the time and wear something decent. No need to wear a suit & tie or anything like that… just no shorts and a ball cap. Musso’s deserves some respect, dress accordingly.

This place is so classic!!! I came here for a dinner with my friend after a long day at work. Earlier that day, my friend called for a reservation. Because it was a late call, the next available table was at 9pm. However, they added a note to call us if there’s any cancellation of reservations, and luckily there was, and so our reservation was moved to 8:15pm instead. I parked at the backside of the restaurant. Be mindful, as there are 2 parking lots. Frank and Musso’s parking lot is the smaller lot right behind the restaurant. The bigger parking lot wanted to charge me $ 20, which was so ridiculous(although it’s a normal parking fee in Hollywood on a Friday night). The restaurant validates your parking ticket and you would only have to pay couple of bucks, it depends on how long you stayed. I went inside and I loved its classic ambience. It has this the«Great Gasby» look and felt like Leonardo DiCaprio was going to come out anytime. The receptionist was so nice and accommodating, in fact, I arrived 15 mins early and still had me seated right away to our booth. I noticed that most the staff are in the older age bracket and Jeffrey, our waiter, explained that this restaurant takes good care of them that no one ever leaves. Drinks wise, they have a wide variety of drinks… especially alcoholic drinks. I chose to order a cocktail. Since I was in the mood for Vodka, Jeffrey recommended Gumlet. It’s a vodka with lime juice. It was strong but good. My friend ordered a Daquiri, my friend didn’t appreciate it very well because it was sour, but for me, it was perfect! I ordered a medium-cooked Rib eye. I’ve had better steaks but this is one is definitely good. For side dish, so had potato at gratin; very savory and creamy. My friend ordered a seafood tagliatelle and it was delish! Then here comes dessert… we were torn between Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse but we decided to share the former. It’s so good, it was the perfect thing to end our dinner. Although I paid $ 100 for my dinner, I think it was all worth it. I may have had better steak but the service and the ambience really paid it all off! I will definitely come back here! P.S: As I’m writing this review, I just found out that my co-worker’s(who’s on her 50s) dad, used to work in this restaurant for 30 years. According to my co-worker, she remembers her dad had a good working experience.

Dining at this restaurant felt like going back in time. The décor of this restaurant with its red booths, wood chairs, waiters wearing jackets and a bow tie, to the serving plates — easily takes you back at least 60 years to an era that is no more, but for the brief time you are dining at Musso and Frank. Validated parking is $ 3.00. This was a busy and happening place at 5:45pm. I kept it simple — ordering the roast of prime rib(medium rare), which comes with a baked potato. After perusing the wine list, I opted to forego wine for the evening. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, medium rare, juicy, tender, flavorful from the seasoning. On this particular evening the cutlery was not only used to carve up the prime rib, but it was also used to fend off fellow table diners that were silly enough to order the pasta entrees. Would I come back here? Easily and often. It is one of the better prime rib experiences that I’ve had including House of Prime Rib and Lawry’s.

No matter where I go in life and what places I experience, it is comforting to know that there will always be Musso & Frank’s. I have been here countless times over the years and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is nice yet understated. The staff is accommodating and wonderful. They will attend to your every need. Most of them have worked there for years, take pride in the service they provide and will always be a familiar face no matter how long between visits. LA has a plethora of amazing restaurants that come and go. Enjoy those and amaze yourself in their inventive cuisine, but do yourself a favor and experience a timeless classic that provides a unique dining experience not to be found anywhere else. Make sure to order a martini. If if you don’t normally drink one. You’re welcome. :)

ICONICLAEXPERIENCE: The front door is like a time portal, taking you back to 1919, albeit with reasonable present day prices. The place is wonderfully old-fashioned in the very best sense of the word. The dining rooms look like they haven’t changed(other than to be cleaned, they’re very clean) since they opened in 1919. The waiters wear short red jackets with black lapels and even though our waiter had a voice like an announcer, he wasn’t even an actor, he was a real, professional waiter who loved the hospitality business. We came at 11:30 to have an early lunch and sampled the flannel cakes, since, according to our announcer-voiced waiter, they have been made by the same chef for 45 years. He’s the only one who knows the recipe and he’s never had a day off. I love this story even if it’s apocryphal. What I liked about them is that they felt like they came straight from 1919, and I don’t mean they were sitting around – no, they were fresh, they were just old-fashioned food. A kind of thin pancake, not quite a crêpe, filled with whipped cream and strawberries. My friend had the burger and I had the hot turkey sandwich, because nothing says«Old-timey food» like a hot turkey sandwich. His burger was perfect, great bun and delicious home made potato chips. Mine was perfect – a rich brown gravy over turkey breast and mashed potatoes. Yum and a half. Oh – and I haven’t mentioned the sourdough bread and butter – and need to – because it deserves special mention. Good restaurants must have good bread and this was GREAT bread and wonderfully fresh salted butter. Sometimes I think that’s all a restaurant really needs to serve, good bread and butter, but in this case, everything was good. The prices are reasonable for a famous landmark, and while there were guests from China(and our announcer/waiter knew enough Chinese to entertain them), this isn’t a tourist place – it’s a place for native Angelinos wanting an ICONICLAEXPERIENCE. Oh – use the valet parking in the back. Just $ 3.

I’ve been coming to Musso and Frank’s for a long long time. Since I was a young actor and Phillip called me Mr. Isacksen for the first time. I have so many great memories of the food, the drinks and that bread. For me, it’s always about the service and through the years… I’ve had all kinds of service here. Grumpy, fast, slow and all perfect. It’s what makes this spot so great. And the booths. Big and soft allows you to melt and savor the moment. I went last night and it was packed to the gills. A half hour wait at 8:00pm. So great that this grand old spot is getting the respect it richly deserves. But, last night I thought about all the dishes(or lack of) that I’ve had here. Huge menu, but I stay with my go-to items. Tomato soup, creamy and hot. Perfect every time. Sand Dabs. I have never ordered them anywhere else and probably never will. Perfect here. Chicken Pot Pie– amazing and only on Thursday. Chicken ala King. Only here. Great old school dish. And please have a martini and look around. Soak it in. Live it. See Orson Welles at the counter and whisper«rosebud». Classic place.
