The best Indian restaurant in Northern Virginia. Veg Thali is the perfect lunch. Appam with coconut milk is the specialty dish. Rasam is fantastic. The kothu parotta with gravy is perfect. Masala Vada appetizer is the best. Idli’s are excellent, wish they had Dosas! The jamoon for desert or try the warm carrot halwa with a scoop of ice cream, delicious. Successful 2 years, only because of tasty, good quality food! Excellent customer Service. Nathan, John, Lakshmi. are a great team.

Food is pretty good but the service is awful. Usually takes around 30 mins regardless what you order.

Food is OK, not great. Quantity is less… Service is really bad as if they have no clue how to run this place. Ate here 2 days ago, it wasn’t too crowded but the people working there didn’t know how to handle the service… we waited very long for everything… no one was coming to take our orders or get us water, later on when we wanted more food, they were running around everywhere checking on regular patrons but no one was paying any attention to us first timers so we changed our mind and asked for the bill instead, which again took very long… Ordered take away thinking I might have caught them on a bad day so wanted to give another try… I specifically mentioned to the manager to put enough rice with the mutton dish. there was hardly any rice packed. I called them back and informed them about it, the manager started making excuses saying the person who packed my order was new and under training. shouldn’t you be mentoring the trainee. Anyways Really bad service! not worth the money.

The food was OK in general. But I found that customer service could be better. I found it very hard to get the waiter’s attention. I couldn’t understand why this is the case, as the restaurant is not even crowded. My order was mixed up, and it took a lot of time before we could get it sorted out. I told someone about the mix up, he went inside and didn’t solve the issue. By the time it was sorted, my food was not hot/fresh. This is the third time I’m observing this pattern, and I’m convinced that it’s not a rare occurrence. I find it unacceptable, this has to change.

One of the best Indian restaurants in the area. The staff and service is great, the food even better. The place grinds their own spice mixes, nothing out of the box. Very flavorful! This is a la carte and not the usual buffet so you can’t eat that many different types at the same time but you will find a lot that you won’t find on any buffet.

Cute place. Been here before with good results. Service is slow but methodical if you will. Food was very fresh and nicely seasoned. Loved the garlic naan also fresh from the oven. I’m sitting close by at the Marriott so it’s an easy walk. I’ll be back again for sure.

Kalpasi Indian Resturant, «had a great lunch experience.» I started out my lunch with Attukal Soup, followed by Peshwari Tandoor naan and lastly Mutton Chukka Varuval. The service was outstanding, our waiter was extremely friendly. Overall had a great experience. –Rustic Traveller–

I had the Chicken Tikka masala with garlic naan. It was great! Excellent spices, fast friendly staff and reasonably priced. Just a few steps outside of the Marriott. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because I went there at 1130 am when they first opened and the men’s room was very unclean.

I am a food lover and it’s very hard for me to give bad reviews to any restaurant unless they are horrible like Kalpashi. i took a takeaway of Idli shambhar along with other things and I could not imagine that gave me some rotten stinking shambhar when I came back. I was old and stinking. I wanted to go back and throw it on their phase but it was already past 10PM. People like these are irresponsible and should be sued. Please Please go to any Indian restaurant but not this and if you are unfortunate and choose this then please eat there. I have attached a picture and I wish I could literally show everyone how stinky and spoiled shambhar they gave me just a while ago.

This restaurant is very close to Dulles airport and as we were going to pick up someone from the airport and had some time, went to Kalpasi for lunch. It was a weekday lunch and the place was full with nearby office people. Seemed that it is popular with local Indian population. The food was spicy and flavorful. Everything we tried, we liked it. Murungakkai Rasam was very spicy. Chicken 65 was delicious. Butter chicken and Chicken Chettinad were good too — Chettinad chicken was one star more. Last but not the least — Gajar ka halwa with ice cream and Kala Jamun were tasty too. After we were done eating, the owner told us that his special is Aappam. — noted for next visit. I would go again.

An authentic South Indian Restaurant catering to all members of the family. A relaxed setting for friends and a great support staff ready to take the orders, provide valuable suggestions or provide yogurt or water. The owners, Alex and John are always there to greet and take your suggestions. Will be bringing my friends and family whenever they are in NoVA.

Kalpasi is great — the food is genuinely tasty and authentic — but be warned, the service is kinda bad. Kalpasi is an authentic South Indian joint in Herndon. It’s rather well appointed but not terribly big, meaning it’s often packed with Indian families coming for the food. Prices are very affordable and portions are large, so no complaints on that front. The food here is simply awesome. The Masala Vada — savory fritters, essentially — were ridiculously tasty and a great start to the meal. The Kothu Parotta from the Griddle was the star of the show — it was warm and had a little bit of spice heat to it, but was nonetheless filling and had a lot of flavor depth. It was genuinely a pleasure to eat. I enjoyed the Chettinad Biryani as well, but perhaps less so — the overwhelming amount of rice wasn’t my style, but the server was kind enough to warn about that in advance. The service here is a bit difficult. The server was not exactly quick or efficient, which may have been the result of the crowded restaurant. I ended up having to flag down a bartender for my check(after waiting what felt like an hour for it!), which was a bit weird. The service wasn’t nearly as bad as other reviews indicate, but it was kinda pitiful — definitely needs work. I’d recommend this place only for those willing to wait for their check. Not a big deal, just a sort of limitation — I can’t see doing a work lunch here.

Service was outstanding. A younger Indian girl who was absolutely great. Atmosphere was good, albeit cold — but the manager set up a space heater right in the dining area, so that was nice if not aesthetically pleasing. The food was good. I would rate it just barely, slightly below some other places in the area simply because it wasn’t as spicy as I’ve come to expect from Indian and no one asked about what level of spice I would like either. Had tandoori chicken and murg saagwala — both were flavorful and prepared excellently. The hot chai was amazing too. Had some fritter-like things for an appetizer that were good but just tasted like any other fritter with more spice. Sadly, they did not have samosas on the appetizer menu.(Isn’t that blasphemy?) I’d go back. But I can name 2 – 3 Indian places off the top of my head I’d go to first. ALSO — NOBOLLYWOODVIDEOSPLAYING?! WTF?!

The service here is TERRIBLE! They barely acknowledge your existence. I came for lunch and was seated at a table. After I had taken off my coat and ordered a drink, another server came by and asked if I would mind sitting at another table instead. I wasn’t sure why I was moving, but I moved, no big deal. It just seemed a little disorganized. It turned out there was a large party coming in(note that they received their food and checks before us even though they came in after us). It took a very long time for the server to come by to take our order, the food was very slow to come out, and it took a painfully long time to get someone’s attention to bring us the bill. They made no apologies, despite the fact that people who came in after us had left before us. We were there for an hour and a half. And the food was not good enough to ignore the crummy customer service. I won’t be returning to a place that is completely apathetic to its customers.

I struggled over what to write. It had been a while since we visited. The packed lunch crowd signaled things were going well as did the overall positive Unilocal reviews. But alas looks were deceiving… First sign of trouble came when we were ignored and other tables were served water and orders taken. We finally flagged down a server who got someone to take our order. We knew things were going to be spicy which was fine with us. However we weren’t quite ready for how fiery the poondu kulambu(garlic in potato curry) would be. But that’s okay as I would rather add rice or yogurt than have places dumb things down but there is no indication on anything in terms of heat level or any comments from the wait staff when ordering so beware! The tandoori lamb chops were tasty but over priced for the small portion of only three very thin chops. I did enjoy the bed of peppers they were on and the sizzling tray made for a dramatic presentation and made the dish look larger when presented. We were disappointed in the mango lassi. While the taste was fine it lacked the dramatic appareance from our initial visit of the swirl of colors and it wasn’t as thick and luscious as that version. It was the repeated lack of service and slow service that really marred this lunch. Repeated requests for more water went unanswered. When it came time to pay the bill while we had the check no one returned to retrieve our payment. I went to the bar to the pay. It was only when I stood up that anyone seemed to notice. So while I should try this place again as it was obvious there was a lot of patrons enjoying their food… It may be a while till it gets back into my rotation
