The restaurant looks closed from the outside. We almost didn’t approach the door. The dark windows and narrow entrance is not inviting. We were seated promptly, drink orders taken quickly, but server never returned to the table for an order. I guess she assumed we were having their buffet. Good food and cinnamon crisps with honey for dessert along with some fruit selections. It was a late lunch so condiments on the buffet like the Pico DE Gallo not replenished. It’s ok, pretty ordinary food selections. The service good.

Love this place for casual Mexican food… great food and service! Parking can be a challenge depending on when you go but it’s worth a walk. I’ve never done the lunch buffet but everything else has been great. Maybe a little music on their patio would be good.

Mexican the right way and in a great space downtown next to the baseball field in the west end. The margaritas are insanely good.

Salsa and queso are better than most. Service was very good. Average food, decent but not great. There are some interesting menu items, but the favors are pretty basic. If your’e looking for really good Mexican, this isn’t it.

My family and I have tried to become regulars at Compadre’s downtown location. We usually get a lot of take out but one particular Sunday we decided to eat inside the restaurant. The 4 of us stood at the WAITTOBESEATED sign for 10 minutes without any acknowledgment from staff, even though there was an available booth! After being seated, without menus, N0ONEEVER came to our table to serve or acknowledge our presence. In order to give the kids closure we tried again. The same situation happened all over again. Now we have to try to answer the question of an 8&10 year old, which is: Why didn’t they want us to eat there? The restaurant was completely full with white patrons, we were the ONLY Black family BOTH times. Even while getting take out for a year we were only treated decently by Tavo, BUT we always thought it was because they were busy that we were ignored. I can now UNFORTUNATELY say it could ONLY be because we are BLACK. Sad but true. For whatever is worth, I responded directly via email as requested and I NEVERRECEIVED A REPLYBACK. Wow! I waited 7 days.

The food was fresh and delicious. Items you don’t find everywhere like cactus. The table side fresh guacamole made with mangoes and cucumbers(fresh jalapeños optional) is not to be missed. There was live music and the whole restaurant was singing along. Such a fun, upbeat and family oriented atmosphere.

After perusing some of the other reviews for Compadre’s, it seems I had a very different experience than a lot of the people rating this restaurant 2 – 3 stars. I’d eaten at Compadres before and thought it far superior to the other Mexican restaurants in downtown Greenville(though certainly not the best I’ve had or even the best in the area as a whole). And then recently I had dinner here with my family at around 5PM on a Thursday night. We were practically the only people in the restaurant. Service was timely and friendly. The manager stopped by our table at one point to make sure everything was okay(it was). In terms of atmosphere and service, this restaurant is far superior to Cantinflas and Guadalajara on North Main. It also has better margaritas than them, and I used to think Compadres had better food as well. But it appears they’ve revamped their menu since the last time I ate here, and I wasn’t overly impressed with anything this time around. The fajitas and flautas were okay, though the beef for the fajitas was pretty dry and tough and the chicken in my flautas was dry as well. The rice served on the side was so bland it was sad, and why in the world do I have to pay extra for sour cream at a sit-down restaurant? It seems that they may have stepped up their service game, but overall I’m disappointed, especially compared to how I remember enjoying Compadres the last time I ate/drank here.

Disfruté mucho compadres. El servicio fue excelente y la comida era deliciosa. Me gusta la música española jugaron. La camarera era muy amable y hablaba con nosotros. Ella respondió a todas mis preguntas.

This is a Mexican Restaurant with a buffet… need I say more? Ok I will. The service was fine, but it’s hard to rate since we got the buffet. The setting was peaceful and very clean. The buffet looks small till you get to it and realize that there are lots of options: fajitas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas, cheese and spinach quesadillas, salad, fruit, rice, beans and several other dishes that I can’t remember the name of. Everything I tasted was excellent! Please visit Compadres and keep it in business. It’s the best Mexican food in Spartanburg! I don’t know the address but it’s located on 29 across from Shogun and next to Apollos. Coming from Spartanburg, it will be after I-26 on the left. If you get to Target, turn around. This particular building has had many restaurants come and go over the years. I hope Compadres stays!

Good mexican. The burritos are huge and good margs to wash them down. The best before a Drive game.

Super good Mexican, we came after a baseball game at Fluor Field and it was really nice. Our waiter was very good and attentive(but not overly so) and made us fresh guac right in front of us. I had the street tacos which were delicious and fresh tasting. My husband had a crazy burrito which he really liked. We also had chorizo/habenero queso dip which was delicious! We will definitely be back.

For your typical Mexican restaurant, I think this one is pretty good! Staff is friendly and seems pretty clean. If I was trying to decide on this type of mexican in downtown Greenville this would be my pick.

I’d give this 2 ½ stars if I could. I was excited about the new menu, disappointed with the food. Compadres used to be so fresh and different. Tonight’s food tasted tired and blah. The salsa was not nearly as yummy and«cilantro-y» as it used to be. The service was the pits, too.

The tortilla soup was disappointing. There was only a thin broth and a handful of chips– no beans, corn, tomatoes, or chicken at all. Service was fairly prompt. If I had noticed the buffet first, I probably would have chosen that. The server didn’t mention it though. I will definitely go back to try the buffet.

Had Tavo’s Special Ceviche with Mango and it was absolutely PERFECT for anyone watching their weight! Completely delicious! Next time I will ask for extra slices of avocado, because it is so delicious — but this is a MUSTTRY!!!

On nights where they have live music make sure you don’t sit too close to the front because it gets LOUD. Such a fun place to come though, especially if you have a birthday or celebration. The taco salad is a safe bet and while it has never disappointed, the real reason this place gets my business is the suicide margarita!!! A blend of margarita flavors and packin’ some punch, this drink is for the pros.

Meh, food-wise this place was A-okay, but service-wise, it was definitely lacking. I’ll start with the food first. I got the chicken burrito and asked that it come with lettuce and tomato. It was entirely decent, good, Mexican food. The chips on the table were nice and thin/crispy, and the salsa was a biiiiit on the spicy side but not overwhelmingly so. Everyone around me seemed pretty pleased with their orders. I’d say the dish that we ordered that looked most appealing was the grilled chicken breast covered with tomato and mango salsa. Nice on the eyes, for sure. I’m a big sucker for a quickly-refilled cup of water, so I was disappointed when I kept having to ask for it to be refilled. I had to leave in a hurry(I’m always late) but when I needed to ask the waitress for my check, she was nowhere to be found! …this was to the point that, after giving the waitstaff plenty of exasperated looks, I decided to ask the busboy for the ticket. It got the job done. BUT then there was a biiiig mix-up with what we were charged for, and basically I got charged an extra $ 22. They assured me it would be taken care of but a few days later I looked at my bank and no dice. Eventually, after I called, we got everything worked out. But it was a needless hassle. DO ask for their«suicide margarita», though. It’s well worth the visit in itself.

Maybe I’m a little unwearied, as this is my first(and long awaited) experience with a Mexican buffet(we hit the Sunday brunch bar), but I thought the food was better than some of these posters are giving it credit for. Yes, the service was a bit slow. We were seated immediately, but it took several minutes for anyone to come and take our drink orders and offer us a menu(one guy brought out chips and salsa but just dropped them off and left). There was only 1 other table occupied and my usually-patient daughter was becoming less than… And yes, the burritos were just a bit dry, but nothing a little salsa(which was dynamite!) and sour cream didn’t fix. And cheese? There was an entire bowl of shredded Asaredo on the bar(it went on everything!). The real highlight of my meal(and what pushed me over the edge because they brought more out when I thought I was done, and I couldn’t pass…) were the bacon, egg & potato quesadillas! Wowsers! Atmosphere was nice and staff was friendly.
