I’ve been a loyal customer of VS1 for 10 years. Even though I moved out of the town 6 years ago, I make the 20 minute drive just to go there. Steven is an amazing colorist. I won’t let anyone else color my hair. Sam and Val are both amazing hairstylists. They are all very accommodating and friendly.

I happened in last Monday during lunchtime having found this salon on Unilocal.It’s a beautiful space and given the time of day and day of the week it was quiet. The one stylist on duty, Matthew, was very friendly and gave me the best haircut I’ve had in a very long time. I’ll definitely be back-couldn’t be more pleased.

What a disappointment. Went at the recommendation of an acquaintance as I’ve only lived here a year, and it can be hard to find a salon you can trust. This is not that salon. I arrived early at 3:35 for a 3:45 appointment, and was taken right in for a wash(which was great). The cut followed immediately, and my stylist(Steven) had me stand for my haircut, which I’ve never done before but he tells me it’s the best way. OK, sure. He proceeds to give me the fastest cut ever(done by 3:47) and tells me his«assistant» will be over to dry my hair, after which he will check on it to see if anything needs touching up. Not ideal, since I booked a cut and blowout with him, but sure, OK. I waited for about ten minutes for said assistant. Unfortunately, when the assistant arrived, it became painfully obvious that he had little to no training or experience. He had trouble just sectioning and clipping wet hair, let alone actually blowing it out or styling it in any way — no product or anything. About 15 minutes into this mess, Steven returned and literally explained to his assistant and showed him how to properly dry hair. I do not understand a) why you would train someone on a new customer, or b) why you would train someone without asking, or letting that person know they were getting a newbie. From what I’ve now read, Steven’s main bag is color — and that’s cool — he also gave me a great haircut, so I got half of what I paid for. It would have been better had someone steered me toward a more appropriate stylist when I made the appointment, knowing I was new to their salon(they confirmed as much when I checked in on arrival). It’s fine if someone would rather focus their attention on color clients, but don’t book a cut AND blowout just to disappear for half of that service to finish someone else’s dye job. Not cool. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience and will not be returning. I left a comment on their website last week(before taking immediately to Unilocal), hoping that perhaps someone would reach out to at least apologize, but no dice.

I’ve been coming to this salon for over 6 years now… Steven and Anastasia do great color. Olga and Gabby give great haircuts. If you ever have a problem with one of the services, talk to Steven, he’ll always make up for it in one way or another. Pleasant atmosphere, great staff.

I had heard great things about Val– so when I was looking for a hairdresser for my wedding, I booked an appointment to get my hair done to try him out. My appointment was on a Thursday and it was still pretty busy in there. I told the receptionist that I had an appointment with Val, but she put me with one if the assistants to blow my hair. After a whole, I realized that the blow out was taking forever and although he was done, he kept playing around with my hair– i was in the chair for an hour and half. I went to the receptionist and told her that I wanted to see Val and she was nasty to me and told me he wasn’t available. It wasn’t until I made a scene that Val showed himself and didn’t even bother to apologize to me and sat me in his chair for literally 10 mins, gave me an updo without asking what I wanted and kicked me out. And he had the nerve to charge me$ 150!!! I made it clear to him that he lost me as a client and have not stepped foot in that place since. I understand that he has a good reputation for doing great work, but c’mon don’t let it get to your head! Be a decent human being! And that nasty receptionist– get an attitude adjustment!

Best highlights in the world– Steven is a color genius. I come from Manhattan and it’s right by the train so the travel isn’t bad– since I travel all the way there to get my hair done I feel compelled to let people know how good the place is. The people that wash your hair are even trained to give awesome head and neck massages! I will never stray
