Donuts so good, we each had two! Then we came back for two more! I’ve never been here before, but man, is it amazing! We arrived before our bike race to find hot, fresh donuts in all varieties. I don’t think you can go wrong, so I won’t make recommendations. The old fashioned donuts are excellent, especially the powdered sugar ones. The bismarks and long johns were also a treat. World’s Best seems to be known for their pan-sized donut, the skizzle. We weren’t brave enough to try it since it seemed equivalent to two or three ‘nuts. We’ll definitely be back, though. The décor is unique for a small MN shop s they have photos sent in from around the country and world with folks with their World’s Best mugs. There are all sorts of stories and collages, too. Check’em out.

Yep. Like most of the other reviews. Best I have ever had. I never get past the sugar or cinnamon cake donuts. Maybe I’ll try one of these skizzles other reviewers are commenting on.

These are by far the best doughnuts I have ever had! Nothing fancy just moist and delicious!

Holy Donuts! I think I found my new church! Donuts don’t get any better than this. Truly! Don’t overlook the raspberry filled jelly and banana cream filled donuts. So, maybe I spent a little more time there than most people do, but I really love donuts. [apologies to my wife] In the time I spent there, they just kept bringing out fresh trays of donuts! It was frickin’ 3:30 in the afternoon! We didn’t eat a single donut that wasn’t still warm. I would like to say there’s a possibility of debating if these are the World’s Best Donuts. I really would. I CAN’T! I pledge my loyalty. 5 ½ hours from home; I would road trip to Grand Marais just for the World’s Best Donuts. Holy Donuts! I love you!

Woooo donuts are the best! Better than your average donut shop. The name may be a little hyperbolic, but I would say that their skizzle(in the same family as an elephant ear or fry bread) was the best I’ve ever had. All of their donuts were top-notch and I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with any choice here.

I would typically never go to a place that’s proclaimed as «worlds best» anything, however this is an awesome establishment, with killer doughnuts. If there is a line, just relax and enjoy the view-It’s worth the wait.

These are truly the world’s best donuts. I do not eat donuts unless I am in Grand Marais because I don’t usually like them enough to consider them to be «worth the calories». These are worth every one. If you are a first-timer, stick to the cake donuts. My favorite is the sugar cake donut. If you know what you want ahead of time, you can skip the long line coming out the door and order from the side window. And with so many great trails in the area, you can hike/bike/run those calories off in no time.

Definitely the best donuts North of Minneapolis! LOVE!!! A Bakers Wife in Minneapolis is equally as amazing, also cash only.

Why are you even reading this review?!? Doesn’t the name tell you all you need to know?! Trust me — the name does not lie — TRULY the WORLD’S best donuts. I know everyone has a pref of cake or raised, but let me tell you — you MUSTMUSTMUST try a cake cinnamon sugar donut and tell me that you’re not impressed? Actually, all their cake donuts are amazing. I usually prefer raise glazed, but WBD is the only place I opt for a cake donut. If you’re in GM often, write you’re name on the board and remember your number for the following summer — you can get a free donut if you tell them your number from the year before! Enjoy!

You really can’t go wrong with anything here. It’s not called World’s Best Donuts for nothing. I am a HUGE fan of completely plain cake donuts and these are by far the BEST I’ve ever had. I got my parents the maple Long John’s and now I think they love me even more. My two year old loved the Tubby Twist, which is basically just a twisty glazed donut. Milk in the carton’s is a great dose of Nostalgia for city slickers, like us! If you don’t at least try a donut here you’ll feel very very regretful.

Cinnamon sugar donuts! So so good! Had a line outside for the locals or people who know what they want, helped expedite the crowds on a busy weekend. Coffee was good too. Long line but worth it.

Worlds best doughnuts… What else do you need to know? First timers go with their classics. The dough is not raised as much and they offer glazed, frosted, cinnamon or sugar. Otherwise I love the Tubby Twist. Best part about this place is the doughnuts, next best part is the price. They give these little rings of mouthwatering perfection away for next to nothing. I can’t help but to buy a dozen every time I stop in. Keep in mind they are only worlds best while they’re fresh. Be sure to get their early because they stay open only as long as they still have doughnuts left to sell. Early bird gets the doughnut.

Right. They’re «a-o.k.», but they’re not the«World’s Best» donuts. The best I’ve tasted thus far in life are those of «A Baker’s Wife» in Minneapolis. World’s Best Donuts are crunchy on the outside, which is very enjoyable. But they’re also v e r y greasy. And, they don’t have that light nutmeg(mace) flavor of standard fry cakes that I like so much. On a recent Saturday afternoon, the lady behind the counter window announced that they only had plain or sugared donuts left — she could, if we wanted, make cinnamon-sugared ones. I’d pass on this one in the future. I’d much rather get my fill of great donuts at A Baker’s Wife.

We read about this place while planning our voyage to the North Shore last fall and expected to be absolutely«blown away» with the donuts. So, the night after visiting nearby Sven & Olé’s we made our way down the block from our hotel room to the famous World’s Best Donuts(10 E Wisconsin St, Grand Marais) expecting great things. Well, I’ll say this. The donuts are good, but the«world’s best?» I don’t think so. The place is delightfully tacky as you might expect for a tourist town. It was reminiscent of the other places we had visited along the North Shore during our trip. Loads of photographs on the walls and absolutely nothing fancy here. They definitely don’t put on airs. The employees are friendly, the coffee is strong(and good) and it’s hard to beat a location right next to Lake Superior. The donuts are good. I don’t remember what we had exactly(2 – 3 each and that’ll fill you up quite nicely for the morning) but I remember having one of there lemon«roly poly» rolls. I really liked that. Krystyn had what she called a «skittle» which is basically a homemade version of an elephant’s ear/cruller(that’s what we call them down in Iowa… I don’t know what folks up this way call them). The rolls were good, but I’m not sure«world’s best» is fitting because I’ve definitely had better. Overall, this is a great place to experience. It’s not fancy, the people working there are super friendly and the donuts are good. Nothing too overpriced and it’s hard to beat a cup of their coffee first thing in the morning while watching the sun come up over Lake Superior. World’s Best Donuts is something to experience at least once, that’s for sure.

Here is a picture of my brother and I eating skizzles in 1997. Traveling up to Grand Marais for vacation tomorrow and already looking forward to my favorite donut shop! There is a reason this place has been in business for so many years: it’s that good! Stop by if you are making the trek up to Canada, are about to enter the BWCAW, or simply staying put in Grand Marais.

Are they the world’s beest donuts? The jury is still out. Afterall I haven’t visited all of the donut shops int he world… yet! They had a wide variety to choose from. All were delicious and fresh. Even the day old donuts were awesome, I have to admit. Although, there seemed to be something missing. Something small and round and sugary. Ah yes, where were the minidonuts? If they had them we couldn’t find them. It seems like any world famous donut shop would have minidonuts. I guess they may not be the worlds best afterall, but they have some mighty fine donuts!

On our way out of town to head back on the long drive back to MPLS, we had to try out these donuts. This was the one other place everyone told us to go to in Grand Marais. These guys don’t mess around. They wear their title well! My partner got the banana cream bismark with chocolate frosting. I went for a simple cinnamon cake donut. I got one taste of his banana cream… How did they do that!!! The banana flavor is bouncing off the walls in this soft doughy goodness! I was blown away. My cake donut was THEBESTDONUT I’VEEVEREATEN. That texture is unbeatable. Crisp and so so soft inside. This really makes the donut. I wish they shipped donuts to my house.

If I were a doughnut, I’d want to be a Worlds Best Donut(WBD)! If I were Oprah, I’d have a giant assortment of Worlds Best Donuts delivered to me on a weekly basis. If I could create my own perfume, It would smell like the Worlds Best Donuts shop! No exaggeration, Worlds Best Donuts(WBD), truly makes the Universe’s best donuts! There is literally not a bad thing on the menu, and this is coming from someone who typically can’t stand anything filled with jam or custards. This is one place you absolutely, positively have to stop at; even if you are just driving through town. The Break-Down: Pure Deliciousness: WBD somehow manages to make a beyond delicious doughnut with the perfect ratio of dough, filling and toppings. I’ve been going here since I was a toddler and the donughts are consistently amazing and never ever dry! My favorite is the Skizzle. The Skizzle is a deep fried doughy Frisbee covered in sugar. It’s impossible to not eat one of these bad boys and not get sugar all over your fingers, just like its impossible to eat a bag of Cheetos without getting orange dust all over your fingers! I also suggest trying any version of a Chet’s Best. Cheap:The whole family can eat here for under $ 10(including a drink). Plus, everyone will leave happy, satisfied, full of sugar and wanting more! Super craveable! –Owned by an amazingly kind and generous family who takes prides in their Doughnuts and in their town. –The only thing I dislike about WBD is that they’re a seasonal business. Typically open from late May — late October. However, I’m not in town year round so I really can’t complain! Fact: I have never had a bad experience at WBD and I don’t now anybody that ever has! To me that says A LOT about how epically amazing the doughnuts are and how phenomenal the customer service is! I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!
