Syndy’s is my go-to place whenever I’m in Grand Marais or driving to/from Lutsen or the Boundary Waters. The wood-fired pizza is pretty good & the award-winning frozen custard is a must-get. Best part though is eating on their rooftop with a great view of Lake Superior. The inside seating also has a great view of the lake and I like the Indie/funky background music. On my latest visit with a group of 5, the table ordered a Kilauea pizza, Chicago pizza(better), Chicago-dog, custard, beers & coffees. Skip the dog & make sure to get the custard in a waffle cone instead of the cup because the cone is yummy. Service was ok. The person who took our order was patient but didn’t seem very thrilled to be there. We also had to bus our own dishes afterwards. We were also told the pizza size feeds 2 – 3 people each but so glad we erred on 2 people because folks were barely full. Note to self: 5 folks who just came back from canoeing/portaging all day could probably wolf down one more pizza than is normal: P Overall– Sydney’s is one of the best place to eat in this very small town. I recommend trying it out! It beats any fast food hands down.

I love this place and its pizza. It’s all I’ve ever had here. Never tried the custard, or the gyros. or anything else. The pizza is great. And the all the outdoor seating in great town with Lake Superior all around is pretty hard to beat. If I love a place but can think of an obvious area of improvement I tend to give 4 stars. For setting, price, pizza and drink this place has nailed it. So I can’t clearly think of something this needs to improve on for the above criteria. Can’t really speak to the other food they offer.

Wonderful rooftop view of the lake! We tried the Titania wood fired pizza. It was good, but what I loved was that the chef personally brought the pizza to us. Very nice touch.

We spend 3 – 4 nights in GM every summer and it’s the only time I ever crave a frozen treat… the first time I had the frozen custard I was upset that it took us that long to try it. Now I get it every night of our stay. I’m a plain Jane and order Vanilla and my husband gets the Dutch Chocolate — you seriously can’t go wrong either way. I do wish they had some unique flavors — or like a daily flavor — just to try something more, but it’s a small shop and I can’t fault them for having the basics. So happy that we’ve found Sydney’s and will be stopping here every time I’m in Grand Marais!

View, food, service, location, prices, selection… all 5 stars! Sydney’s! They are currently also serving breakfast, out if this world great! They serve local Voyageur Brewing beer, which is awesome. On a nice day, the rooftop dining is the best place in town. Absolutely a favorite spot I keep returning to.

Wonderful pizza, reasonable prices, and breakfast too! Nice ingredients on the pizza, like fresh pineapple. Local beer on tap goes perfectly with the pizza and the views from inside or on the roof are stunning. Definitely a new favorite for me. No waitstaff was no problem.

Delicious and unique flavors of custard treats. Fun atmosphere. Friendly staff. Yum! We got the Sydnamis, «almond joy» & «reeses pb cup». Both delicious. Hand made not using the candies. Better than DQ!

Stopped by on a stay over in Gand Marais on the way to BWCA. My husband and I ordered the Mediterranean pizza with gyro meat to share. After taking in the view from the rooftop patio on a gorgeous night, we were delivered a lovely wood fire pizza that was absolutely delicious. We ended up caving and ordering custard afterwards as well! Great little place with a fun and cozy atmosphere and beautiful view!

Excellent wood fired pizza! Gyros, Chicago style hot dogs, salads, homemade custard, and now breakfast crepes, waffles and quiche!

I got the coffee toffee flavor and it was amazing! They also have seating on the roof which has a most wonderful view of Lake Superior! They are serving ice cream in many arrangements and also serve pizza, which I did not try.

This is a truly special place right on the beach. They are now serving breakfast as well as fine pizza and dinners and desserts. You can also get beer and wine. They support local live music. The food is prepared with skill and has great flavor. Bruce and his staff are very outgoing and friendly. Sydneys is very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Came here with hubby to share a dessert after eating lunch at Hughie’s tacos. We shared the«The Stealth» Sydnami which is a mixture of blueberries and oreo. We headed up to their rooftop seating to enjoy the view of Lake Superior and it was a nice relaxing time! The Stealth was really good, however make sure you got a buddy with you to help navigate the blueberry pulp that get stuck between your teeth! They also serve salads, hotdogs, sandwiches, and pizzas. The table next to us had ordered pizza and it looked pretty good so we might have to try it next time we are in Grand Marais!

I liked what this place had to offer. I just didn’t like how they charge an extra 50¢ to use a card when they charge 6 $ for a sundae. Looked like it had a lot of other tasty things though. I will say that if you go during the summer, you can go right behind the bar/restaurant and go on the roof or straight to the pebble beach behind the restaurant. That made it all really nice. Just to be able to relax. So good location! Even though it’s down at the end of a less traveled street.

Can only echo the other positive reviews already posted by others. Watching the sunset from the rooftop deck while sipping a glass of wine or eating a delicious frozen custard dessert is a must-do. Didn’t have the pizza but saw plenty of people ordering and enjoying. Tip: $ 10 minimum for credit card use or there is a service charge.

Visiting from CA I searched Unilocal for places to eat down at the north shore I thought Sydney’s looked like a good place to try boy was I wrong, it is a FANTASTIC place to try It is so SO delicious and friendly staff. I’ve had ‘frozen custard’ plenty of times and its usually soft serve and ice cream like. Nope not here. It’s scooped and the most dreamy, creamy custard. I had a double scoop vanilla with the mixed berry sauce. Excellent. I also had the Greek chicken gyro also excellent. My mom and aunt shared a salad which was good. Mom had a single scoop of vanilla custard with the hot fudge — but it didn’t have very much hot fudge sauce, not excellent but tasty I hear this place gets ridiculously busy during the summer, no surprise. I wish it was closer to home I’d go here every week and gain 75lbs Very, very good — just… maybe be a little bit more generous with the hot fudge sauce :)

Custard was heavenly! Beautiful place to sit and enjoy your Neapolitan pizza or ice cream. They also have Chicago style hotdogs and gyros. The pizza is similar to Punch, but make no mistake, it’s not nearly as good. Its good, but lacks that smoky goodness that Punch has and not nearly as good of ingredients. Came in the evening and enjoyed a nice fire in the fire pit in front while eating our pizza and then went around back on the beach to watch the Blue Moon that was out. Stunning. We would recommend their pizza, triple berry sundae and any custard. Chai Latte not the best I’ve had, so I’d go with coffee. We will be back. We loved it!

Easily the best place in Grand Marais for dessert but in the last year it’s also become one of the best places to eat in general. Their gyro’s are great but what has really made them a go to spot is the wood-fired pizza. In a town where pizza is supposed to be some silly overpriced Scandinavian tourist trap, Sydney’s has taken over with their pizza that is(dare I say) VERY similar to the beloved Minneapolis chain Punch Pizza. Seating for now is outdoors(choose from fireplace or rooftop) or take out but they are in the process of adding indoor service and alcohol sales. I would never discourage a place from getting it’s liquor license my only fear is that Sydney’s gets too big and starts losing what’s so fantastic about it right now. I highly recommend a chai shake and a Neapolitan pizza.

Reasons Why You NEED To Go To Sydney’s Frozen Custard 1: Nothing can beat Sydney’s beautiful rooftop view of Lake Superior/Grand Marais in the summer! Plus Sydney’s is a great place to grab a treat and skip rocks in the lake. 2: The custard! Even if you aren’t a huge custard fan, Sydney’s will make a believer out of you! 3: The wood-fried pizza is to-die-for! Sydney’s has the second best pizza in town, compared to Sven & Olé’s(which is hard to top). This is based on my personal preference of thick crust vs. a thinner crust. This is coming from someone who thinks Sven & Olé’s has one of the best pizzas in Minnesota. The Gyro’s are pretty darn good as well. 4: Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff. 5: The Peanut Butter Shake is quite possibly one of the best shakes I have ever consumed! Their mixed berry Sunday is 100% fresh and your taste buds can instantly taste the freshness. 6: Dog Friendly 7: Delicious vegetarian options available Just go! You won’t regret it! Note: Accepts Visa & Mastercard

Tasty… Their chocolate custard even has little bits of chocolate in it. makes it better than regular, boring, custard. Location is perfect.
